Diocesan Cursillo launches Eucharistic Congress Prayer Initiative

The Armagh Diocesan Cursillo Movement has just launched a new initiative in preparation for the 50th International Eucharistic Congress to be held in Dublin in 2012.

A special Chalice and booklets were blessed by Fr Seamus White on Friday evening during our highly successful 'Friendship Night' for all those who had attended the recent Weekends.

The Chalice which will help us focus our prayers in preparation for the Congress, will visit the different Groups within Cursillo for the duration of an appointed month. During that month the group will pray for the success of the Congress and discuss ways in which Cursillo can prepare for and celebrate the Eucharistic Congress in 2012.

The first Group will recieve the Chalice and booklets at the next Ultreya on Friday 30th October at 8.00pm in the Marist Crypt, St Mary's Road, Dundalk.

On the 80th Anniversary of THE Eucharistic Congress held in Dublin in 1932, the Fiftieth International Eucharistic Congress will be held in Dublin, Ireland. The Holy Father has announced the theme for the Congress will be:

“The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and with one another”.

In 1932 the Irish State issued a set of commemorative stamps to mark the occasion of the Congress, which was a time of immense grace for the newly independent Ireland.

As part of your preparation for the forthcoming Congress, I urge you to voice your support for the issuing of another set of commemorative stamps in 2012 to mark the 50th Eucharistic Congress and the 80th Anniversary of the Eucharistic Congress of 1932.

Theme & Dates set for Eucharistic Congress 2012

The Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses has just announced that the next International Eucharistic Congress, the fiftieth of the series, will take place from 10 to 17 June 2012 in Dublin, Ireland, on the theme: 'The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and with one another'.

"The choice of theme arises from the fact that the celebration of the congress coincides with the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of Vatican Council II which, as Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin has affirmed, was a moment of renewal for the Church's teaching and for her understanding of herself as Body of Christ and Body of God", the communique explains.

The theme has its direct inspiration in paragraph 7 of the Constitution 'Lumen gentium' which reads: 'Really partaking of the body of the Lord in the breaking of the Eucharistic bread, we are taken up into communion with Him and with one another. 'Because the bread is one, we though many, are one body, all of us who partake of the one bread'. In this way all of us are made members of His Body, 'but severally members one of another'".

The communique goes on: "The archbishop of Dublin has also emphasised the possibility of developing the theme of the next International Eucharistic Congress by reflecting on certain important topics such as: communion with Christ as a foundation for Christian life; the Eucharist as a way of life for clergy, Christian families and religious communities; the gesture of 'breaking bread' as a principle of Christian solidarity; the Eucharist, seed of life for the world of suffering and fragility; and ecumenism and the sharing of the one bread".

ADORE is a program that aims to strengthen the conviction of young adults towards the Eucharist and the Blessed Virgin Mary through the practice of Eucharistic Communion and Adoration, the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the meditation of the Holy Rosary. For three days, young adults will be drawn to the sacred for spiritual renewal and guidance in the morals and teachings of the Catholic Church.

The youth are the future of the Church, and they gather in Cork City to ADORE! Live the faith with 3 days of prayer and fellowship. Experience the new evangelization through inspirational talks and witnessings, live music, exciting performances and workshops. Ultimately, encounter Christ in the Eucharist through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and Holy Hours of Adoration. Be fearless apostles of the Eucharist!

For young adults (18-35).

The event is Free (donations only), and is a great way for young people to prepare for the upcoming International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin in 2012!!!

Design the Logo for the Eucharistic Congress

Background
The International Eucharistic Congress is normally celebrated every four years. It was last hosted in Ireland in 1932. Pope Benedict XVI announced in June 2008 that the next International Eucharistic Congress will take place in Dublin in 2012. Further information can be found on www.iec2012.ie. The Congress committee wishes to facilitate the participation of as many people as possible in the preparation of the Congress. With this in mind, a public competition is being held to design a Congress Logo which will be suitable for use on:

Thematic Elements
The theme of the Congress is "The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and with one another." The following passage from the Vatican Council’s document Lumen Gentium (The Dogmatic Constitution on the Church) will provide the artist with some helpful thematic background. Really partaking of the body of the Lord in the breaking of the Eucharistic bread, we are taken up into communion with Him and with one another. "Because the bread is one, we though many, are one body, all of us who partake of the one bread". In this way all of us are made members of His Body, "but severally members one of another"(Lumen Gentium, 7).

Some or all of the following thematic elements will be reflected in the successful entry:

# “Communion” as a gathering together of many people into one body
# The Eucharist as the “source and summit of the Church's life and mission”
# The fact that the Congress takes place in Ireland
# The international nature of the Congress
# The 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the Second Vatican Council (1962)

Technical Requirements
The logo should be:

# prepared in .JPG format, with the finished logo capable of being rendered as a vector image (.EPS file)
# prepared in full colour but capable of use in monochrome (please specify CMYK colour mode)
# resolution not less than 225 dpi
# non-animated

Submission and Evaluation

# Entries should be submitted by email to logodesign@iec2012.ie, with the logo as an attachment. (This email address for entries only. General enquiries to info@iec2012.ie)
# Each artist may submit a maximum of five entries
# Each entry may be accompanied by a short note (100 words max.) explaining its inspiration
# All entries must be the original work of the artist and must not have been copied from any other source. Copyright ownership of the winning logo, if any, will remain with the winning artist. The Committee of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress will, however, have the fully paid up, royalty free exclusive right to use the winning logo for all purposes. If the artist, at a later stage, wishes to use, assign or licence the winning logo for any purpose, the prior written permission must be obtained from the Committee
# The closing date for applications will be Monday September 21st 2009
# All entries will be acknowledged by email

Prize

National Collection for Eucharistic Congress

Catholics are being urged to give generously to make the 2012 International Eucharistic Congress a success.

The event will be hosted in Dublin for the first time since 1932 and speculation is rife that Pope Benedict XVI may use the occasion to make a much-anticipated apostolic visit to Ireland.

A national collection will be taken up in every parish in the country at all Masses on the weekend of Sunday June 14, the solemnity of Corpus Christi.

It is anticipated that the event will cost millions of euro to stage. It is also expected to bring thousands of pilgrims to Ireland from overseas as well as hundreds of parish groups from all over the country.

Pope Benedict announced in June 2008 that he had chosen Dublin to host the prestigious international event that will be marked by Masses, vigils and catechesis on the Church’s teaching.

Logistics

Fr Kevin Doran, who has been appointed to co-ordinate the event, told The Irish Catholic this week that it would be a massive logistical operation.

”A significant part of the expense will be hiring venues to host the events and the costs associated with that, including public address systems and translation services,” he said.

However, Fr Doran also said that the preparatory committee would be expending a ”considerable amount of energy on a catechesis” in the lead up to the 2012 event.

Preparation

”This is not just about a week-long event, it’s going to be important that we work hard on a pastoral preparation programme to ensure that people are prepared for this and to ensure that there is some lasting spiritual benefit,” Fr Doran said.

”It is envisaged that a programme of evangelisation, catechesis, solidarity and celebration will take place in every diocese in the country in the two year period running up to the Congress.

”This preparatory programme will help to nourish our own understanding of and faith in the Eucharist so that we can participate more effectively in the Congress and welcome those who will come from overseas to celebrate the Congress with us,” Fr Doran added.

Cardinal to celebrate Cursillo Mass in June

The Dundalk Cursillo Movement have announced today that His Eminence, Cardinal Seán Brady will celebrate a Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving for the Holy Year of Saint Paul.

Saint Paul is the Patron Saint of the Cursillo Movement. In June 2007, His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI announced that the Church would celebrate the Holy Year of Saint Paul to mark the 2000th Anniversary of the Apostle's Birth.

The Holy Year of Saint Paul ends on June 29th 2009. The Dundalk celebration takes place on Friday 26th June, 8.00pm in St Nicholas' Church. All are welcome!

Cursillo's Tenebrae: A Shining Success

Dundalk Cursillo Movement held a very successful Service of Tenebrae last night in a packed Marist Crypt. 'Tenebrae' is the Latin word for shadows. Cursillo described it as a recreation of "the emotional aspects of the Passion" and that's exactly what they delivered!

There were four readers (a bit like the Reading of the Passion on Good Friday) who read the various parts of the main players in the Passion story. After each reading there was a very moving reflection, after which a candle was extinguished and light switched off, until we were all in the darkness of the tomb.

During the readings music from 'The Passion of the Christ' was played which added greatly to the atmosphere. Congratulations to all involved!

Their next Ultreya is on Friday 24th April at 8.00pm in the Marist Crypt.
