The design of logo of cars is always a very difficult task. It´s necessary to communicate in a simple image many aspects related to the brand. Besides that, the logo of a car is the first creator of an identity to it. Thus, this logo ought to be something alive that will suffer an evolution through times. Radical advertising of Ikea - Sweden

Maybe you´ve seen some comedy shows where the comedian depreciates himself. Well, if used properly, this is a great tool, and it´s very used by some radical advertisings. That´s what Ikea, a furniture company from Sweden, tried to do in this commercial from the 90s - but the result is bizarre! Not sure if it´s a radical advertising or just a stupid one. The commercial is based on a Swedish midsummer tradition, a day when, allegedly, people gets drunk and dance all night. This film tried to make fun with this Swedish tradition, but just succeeded in doing one of the most outrageous advertisements of all time. And yes, of course it has been banned!

Vin Mariani - popular French tonic wine with coca

The Vin Mariani, or Mariani´s Wine in English, was a kind of tonic created in 1863 in France. It was made with Bordeaux wine and coca leaves. It seems strange today, but we can´t forget that in the end of nineteenth and in the beginning of twentieth centuries, the use of coca in 'revigorant' (invigorating) drinks was widespread - for example, in the first formulation of Coca-Cola, in 1886. This poster we are showing today advertised Vin Mariani in the end of the nineteenth century in UK. Notice that it has all the French aspects, such as the can-can dancer, and is probably just a translation from the original in French.

United Airlines Commercial - 1982

A classic commercial from the 80´s of United Airlines. The year is 1982, and we are near the end of the Cold War. But both sides of this war are still impregnated with propaganda. That´s why United Airlines´ slogan says that it´s the "largest airline in the free world", thus, excluding communist nations, i.e. USSR.

Some days ago, we´ve posted a vintage ad of Camels cigarettes, which says: "more doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette". It was a 1944 commercial. But the history that brings together physicians and cigarettes is pretty older. In 1930, Lucky Strike published an ad that said "Physicians say:'Luckies are less irritating".

On that same year, Marlboro had the brightest idea ever: why don´t we use babies to sell cigarettes? Then they came up with the slogan "Gee, Dad, you always get the best of everything... even Marlboro!

Sweden - support for people with eating disorders

This Swedish ad campaign was launched by Anorexi Bulimi Kontakt to create awareness among people and especially young girls about these disorders and anorexia. The advertisement is showing a super thin anorexic girl in front of a mirror visualizing herself as little fat to emphasize the fact she still thinks there is a room for further reduction.
