"Run the Pointe"

The Grosse Pointe South Athletic Booster Club's annual “Run the Pointe” event is scheduled for October 4th; our athletic teams have been busy fundraising for the boosters and their programs the last two months. If you are interested in running in this important event or even donating, please contact me via email (brandon.slone@gpschools.org) and I will forward all relevant materials to you.

The boosters hope to see you there!

NCAA Eligibility

A few weeks ago I met with representatives from a company that services student athletes when it comes to NCAA eligibility. Their program, GradeCheck.net, is a self service website that student athletes (and other school personnel) can use to monitor and evaluate any student's NCAA scholarship eligibility. Students can enter their academic data into this easy to use system and let the program calculate, evaluate, and report their current status, noting any areas of improvement.

Fall Sports Parent Meeting

All parents of fall student athletes are invited to attend the fall sports meeting on Monday, August 18th at 7P. The meeting will take place in the Main Gym; please attend in order to get all of the latest up to date information regarding South athletics for the 2008-09 school year.

Fitness Facility Update

As part of our construction with the new pool and auxiliary gym, we have secured an area for a fitness facility as well. As part of developing this area, we have assembled a steering committee to make sure all aspects of the planning are being covered. The committee is in the early planning stages and the process has been very exciting for everyone involved; we have been working aggressively to make this facility something that can be utilized by all of our students, student-athletes, faculty, and others. As the facility continues to evolve, the committee would like to hear your thoughts on what should be considered...

2nd Annual GPN/GPS Golf Outing

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the planning of the North v. South Golf Outing. It was nice to see so many different faces at this event: board members, our superintendent, central office administration, high school administration, middle school administration, teachers, coaches, parents, and other community members. The amount of money raised by this event benefits greatly both high schools in helping us enhance our athletic programs. GPS came away as the "victors" again this year and can claim their back-to-back championship...in the end, both high schools are winners in the bigger picture.

The last couple of weeks we have learned of a possible 5 Season Sports plan proposed by the MHSAA. Well, things have changed a little...The MHSAA is now proposing a possible 4 Season Sports plan.
