It seems to be working.
My previous experience was with FM2/FM3A. They allow with the back open, I think, to keep the shutter curtain open.

The film spool should turn, but the shutter should also open. Take the lens off the front. Try setting it to a long shutter speed, like 1/4 or 1/2 of a second.

Oh, and also make sure you're in a mode where the shutter dial will do something, like M (manual) or S (shutter priority).

Hit the shutter button, and you should see the back of the camera through the lens opening while the shutter opens. B and T should also work, so if they don't, something may be wrong.

I have bought a 2nd hand F4.
I am trying to test the shutter curtain opening. I have no film inside. How do I open the shutter and keep it open?
I have tried setting it to 'B' and 'T' with no success. The film spool seem to rotate every time I press the shutter button...

Great post! I like the advice of buying a not so expensive body and save your money for lenses, until you need/can upgrade your body.

I have a Canon XSi and love it. Sure a Full-frame like 5D would be great but at $3,000 or so, I'd rather get another lens ;)

My EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS lens was $2300 after taxes ;) Well I only paid about half of that since I had some gift-cards hehe.

I should have that lens for the rest of my life (as long as I dont damage it). Where as my camera body needs to be upgraded soon I think.

Well here's my personal favourite mysticism v. science discussion ender:

1. Evidence negates value of faith.
2. Faith is a critical virtue of the believer.
3. The existence of evidence forces the rational thinker to either; a)dismiss or remain ignorant of evidence, or to b)accept evidence at the expense of the the faith it displaces, relegating the domain of the supernatural to be perpetually diminishing with every scientific discovery and verified hypothesis.

There is no logical reconciliation to there being value in both faith and evidence. An individual can of course choose which one, and only one, they prefer.

Huh. As a scientist, all I can say is, "wow." My brain must be put together differently, as I have no issue with relativity, quantum mechanics, gravity, natural selections, genetics, etc. I do have a large problem though understanding why everyone else DOESN'T understand these things. I believe in Occam's razor which simply states that the most simple explanation is usually the correct one. While the majority of people insist that science is witchcraft, the truth is Science is based completely in fact and is easily explained. I would like someone to explain creationism to me in the same way.
