Long Hiatus

Been gone for quite some time now. Here are some of the things that i have been doing.

1. Designed eCommerce site using osCommerce for some clients.
ex. www.sendregalo.com and www.goldenblossoms.com(not yet finish)

2. Started maintaining www.learninglinks.edu.ph site

3. Still trying to finish my flowershop on Multiply.com. You can go to expressflowers.multiply.com but as i said its not done yet and i'm stll figuring out how to use smart money and g-cash for expressflowers.

4. Started Biking from my house to work.( 7km everyday )

5. I'm still doing house call for computer repairs.

Softwares Downloaded and running on my PC

1. USB Webserver - Usb Webserver is an easy-to-use web server that integrates Apache, MySQL and PHP, including PHPMyAdmin. [

2. XAMPP - XAMPP is an integrated server package that contains Apache, MySQL, PHP, Perl etc. A smaller version called XAMPP-Lite is also available that has fewer components but takes up less disk space.

3. Adobe Photoshop Lighroom - Its not free but for image post processing its worth every penny.

4. Windows Steady State - Perfect for a computer room full of kids. Free but you have to pass windows genuine advantage in order to download it.

5. K9 Web Protection - Free Internet filtering and control solution. Perfect software for making sure kidsare protected while surfing the net.

For me this is the best torrent client ever! Why do i like so much well for starters its small like its only 220kb and its not a resource hog like some other torrent clients. I can go on on on how great this little app is but really you should try it.

Here ia a nifty extension for Firefox. Personas for Firefox is a extension that adds lightweight theming to your browser. I like this theming extension because as stated before its lightweight, it's easy to change from one theme to another without restarting Firefox and themes are readily accesible via a Fox mask icon on the status bar.

I'm a jealous type of guy, last week i got jealous because my boss has "spaces " installed on his mac and so i Googled and got Virtuawin. Now i'm jealous of his mac because it's running parallels with Windows Vista as his guest and i said to myself I want one too!!! And so with the help of the mighty google i found a bunch of virtualization software and tried them. I tried VMware, Qemu and Virtualbox. Among the three i really like Virtualbox, I like it because its not that big of a download its around 16.9mb compared to VMware's 100+mb and its user friendly.

What is Virtualbox? Virtualbox is a hardware emulation virtualization software(say that 10x faster), by mapping the host computer’s hardware resources directly to the virtual machine’s resources, it creates a virtual copy of your computer. With this virtual machine you can install and run different operating system within your host computer.

I'm currently running Virtualbox on an Windows XP (XP being the host) and gOS Linux as guest. Everything works out of the box. :)

I'm a linux user since wayback. One of the things i like to use in linux is the virtual desktop because i like switching from one desktop to another basically to hide NSFW stuff. :D

A couple of weeks ago my boss showed me is his brand new os x leopard and all its features and the one thing that caught me is "spaces" which kinda look familiar oh wait i know its the same as virtual desktop on linux except it has a better name. So i figured i want one on my office laptop which sad to say is running windows xp. I googled for some virtual desktop software for windows and i found this wonderful piece of an open-source software named VirtuaWin. its just a simple program that sit on your systray and does its job pretty well. But what does its really do? well here's a quote from the official site of VirtuaWin:

A virtual desktop manager lets you organize applications over several virtual desktops (also called 'workspaces'). Virtual desktops are very common in Unix/Linux, and once you get accustomed to using them, they become an essential part of a productive workflow.

My Very Own Youtube Downloader

While Googling for some PHP scripts i saw this blog post on Sizlopedia about a Youtube Download PHP script. With this script you can run your own downloader on your site or blog. Currently i have been using VConvert.net service for downloading youtube's video but with this script i now have my very own downloader... cool!

My 2007 Christmas Wish List

This is a list of items i want for Christmas. Currently there are only 2 at the moment but this list will grow as Christmas gets nearer and nearer. There is a slim chance to nil of getting these items but hey its just a wish list anyway! :D

First on the list is the Asus Eee PC which i previously posted here on my blog.

Second i want to have the trade paperback issue of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Long Way Home TPB. This is the 1st five issue of Joss Whedon's season 8 of the show that is only available in comic.

Tire of those social networking sites such as Friendster, Myspace, Multiply, Facebook well here is something new Hatebook the Evil side of networking. Hatebook is a parody site based on Facebook. Everything you know about social networking is thrown out the window cause what you'll find here is quite the opposite. Remember the albums or galleries of your friends well in Hatebook they have "Hate Albums" where pictures and descriptions of everything you hate is listed.. weird huh? They also got "I'm Better then You" instead of those testimonials/comments. Curious? well just go to www.hatebook.org and spread the hate.

Skins for DScaler

A couple of years ago i made some skins for a program named dscaler. DScaler is the program i used for watching Television on my PC. Its Default Skins is kinda lacking so i made a skin for it and this is one of my early foray into skinning. Here is the description of dscaler quoted from their official site www.dscaler.org:

To be Honest I don't have that much time to work on my blog cause of my work and at the same time not having an internet connection at home. Currently my blog is set to moderate all comments for now so no more anonymous commenting because I'm getting flooded with comment spam which is quite irritating. I'll be back soon and hopefully by then i have learned to make templates using the blogger beta.

These templatess are originally made for Wordpress and have been ported to work with blogger.com. To install a template, simply unzip the file and open the text file using kate, kwrite or notepad then copy the code. Go to Blogger control panel select the template tab and paste the code into the template area, save changes then republish.

Each template is licensed according to their original creators respective licenses so that basically means if a template such as Beccary's WP Dusk theme is licensed as GPL then the ported version is GPL as well. Get it? Got it!

Please keep the backlink in the footer if you use this template.

Blogger.com is Getting an Update

Finally blogger is getting an update. I'm trying it out now by creating a new account using my gmail, didn't go for the merge thing cause i got scared that it might mess-up my current template. The one feature that we blogger user have been waiting for is here and its called Labels!(categories) which is a good thing and a bit sad cause we have to say byebye to our category hacks. They also added the private blogs feature werein you can be the only one to view your blog or you can let only certain people view it, which basically means that my boss won't get to read my rants ever again hehehehe. It says in the intro that theres going to be a drag and drop feature in the customization of your templates ala google pages i guess. You can read the other features here.

I haven't been posting anything for quite some time now so here is a post on stuff i found useful for the past couple of weeks.

1. Bart PE - As qouted from its creator Bart's PE Builderhelps you build a "BartPE" (Bart Preinstalled Environment) bootable Windows in a CD-Rom or DVD from the original Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 installation/setup CD, very suitable for PC maintenance tasks. Just like having a Live Linux CD except its windows and you do need to have a licensed windows for you to use it. Here are some of the useful plugins i installed: Sherpya's Windows XPE Plugin, Codecs Plugin for XPE/PnP, ClamWin Antivirus Scanner 0.88, Java Plugin 1.5.0_06, Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.4 Plugin, Ewieldra's Antivir PersonalEditon Classic version 7, Tariq hasan's Avast plugin. These are some of the plugins i downloaded and used there are tons more plugins out there just google Bart PE plugins.

2. Chikka.com - Chikka lets you send free messages from pc to pc, from pc to a mobile phone and from a mobile phone to pc. You can use the Chikka Messenger or in my case Chikka Javalite version to send text messages directly to cell phones in the Philippines, the U.S., Japan, India, or Thailand at no cost. Ok there is a catch though for every network there is an alotted credit once the credit is consumed it will be replenish the following day. Here are the allocations for each network:

AT&T (US) - 20
Cingular Wireless (US) - 20
Other U.S. Mobile Phones - 30
Globe (Ph) - 30
Smart (Ph) - 20
Sun Cellular (Ph) - 4
Japan Mobile Phones - 20
DTAC (TH) - 20
