Operation Christmas Child

Hi!

Here is the information for Operation Christmas Child:

There are brightly colored boxes at the church under the display near the bathrooms. In case you go shopping before seeing the box, it is about the size of an average sized shoe box.

Choose: boy or girl; Age categories: 2-4, 5-9, 10-14.

The brochures in the cup at church near the display have labels…tape the label on the top of the box.

Fill the box with a variety of gifts. For example:

Small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, jump ropes, small etch-a-sketch, toys that light up or make noise, coloring books, crayons, slinky, school supplies, hygiene items, t-shirts, socks, sunglasses, hair clips, ball caps, some hard candy (double wrapped), mints, gum.

You may include a note or photo of yourself in a separate envelope.

NO: Guns, Knives, War toys, Chocolates, Liquids, Breakables, Aerosols.

I’m really excited that you are interested in doing this. (Mrs. Scott is excited too!)

The boxes have to be delivered in November…so I’d like to have the boxes filled by November 4th…the day we have a service project planned for youth group Sunday. If you fill them sooner, bring them to church and I’ll keep them together to give to Mrs. Scott all at once.

First Meeting

Attention all 7th to 12th graders!

Now that everyone is back in the “school swing” – we are starting up Youth Group this Sunday!

We will be going to Silver Lake Park (about ½ mile east of Francisco’s on E. Silver Lake Rd.).

We will have lunch, a short discussion and then play soccer, softball, bean bag game, ladder ball, Frisbee and whatever else! Watch the weather and dress accordingly.

If it rains, we will stay at the church and play some indoor games (nerf Frisbee, bean bag game and ladder ball).

The discussion will include ideas on destinations for next years’ mission trip, so if you have any ideas, or would like to research places to go, please bring them along with you.

Also, we will have a sign-up sheet for your parents to sign-up to bring lunch, so let them know and have them check their calendars for available dates. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month.

Plan to come to our first meeting of the year!

Let's Do Stuff

Alright this is ryan, the cool Bondy, and heres the deal, a group of us, or maybe just me, has decided that we should do more stuff with each other, other than just youth group, it will be with the youth group kids but is not sponsored or endorsed by NLCC or Mike or Amy or Barb or my Mom. Soo, first thing we will be doing outside of youth group is after challenge on Tuesday we will go to a showing of 1408 rated PG-13. Transportation to my house until the showing will generally be arranged by my mother and I, though my mom has nothing to do with these events that we will be having. Other ideas are that we will go to Taylor Park or Twin Lakes to swim, or 1$ bowling on Mondays. All suggestions are welcome, please send me an email about it, just address it to Ryan. Emails saying who will come will be nice in order to arrange transportation, lemme know, oh yeah, pickup will be at the theatre by your parents, cyou at challenge,

Concert Opportunity

I have received an e-mail from the Director of Christian Education at the Redeemer of Interlochen. The Christian band Everyday Sunday will be coming to Traverse City. The concert will be at West Sr. High School on Monday July 9th at 7:00 p.m. The doors will open at 6:30. Tickets are only $8.00 and are available at the door starting at 5:00 p.m. on the 9th.

They are a wonderful band with a powerful message! Call your friends and get a group to go! Mark your calendars now!

Working at Cherry Fest

Hi all. We have been given the green light to work in the brat tent during Cherry Festival. This will make the youth fund at least $250, possibly more. We need 4 volunteers for Thursday July 12, 2-6 p.m. We need one adult and all others can be as young as 12 y.o. This is the week that falls between the Mission trip and Challenge week. It has the potential to be a lot of fun, seeing people and spreading the visibility of NLCC in the community.

Next week you will be receiving more forms in the mail to fill out – they are from the church/group we will be staying with and they must be filled out and a copy of your insurance card must also be included. We need to fax this information to them as soon as possible. Those who missed the meeting will be receiving ALL information and ALL forms.

Amazin' Grace

Hi!

On May 20^th, for youth group, we will be holding the Amazin’ Grace!

For those of you who have not watched the Amazing Race or did not participated in last year’s Amazin’ Grace, it is a race around town doing different tasks to get more clues to do more tasks to get you to the end of the race first to WIN!

Last year was a great success and this year looks like it will be a lot of fun also!

Find a partner and get ready to race! But YOU MUST SIGN UP!

In order to have this race, we need one adult driver for EACH team. If I don’t hear from you, and you show up, you’ll have to walk everywhere and believe me, no one will be at the finish line waiting for you on Monday!

Please e-mail Dawn with your name and teammate’s name. If you “think” your teammate contacted me, think again and contact Dawn yourself.

Youth Retreat

Hi!

Welcome back from Spring Break! Hope everyone had a great week!

This Friday we will be going to the Morrison House for a lock-in.

We will meet at the church at 5:30 and will go on a change drive on the way there.

We will have pizza when we get there and will have a lot of things to do while we’re there.

We will play games/cards, do some baking, play ping pong, watch videos, play Christian Guard, roll (hopefully lots of) coins, and whatever else you want to do.

If you are planning on coming, please let Dawn know. If you can only come for part of the time, that is okay too. Please let Dawn know if you are coming only for part of the time or if you are planning on spending the night. Dawn needs to know to plan for dinner and breakfast on Saturday morning.

Hi!

This past Sunday, we came up with a theme to use for fundraising for the mission trip: “Let’s Make a Change!” Our goal is go collect enough money for the mission trip to “Make a Change”!

Here is an update on the schedule for the next couple months of youth group meetings:

March 18^th – Bar-b-que cook-off. After the cook-off, Rene Scott will tell us of her (and Kaitlyn’s) experience down in Bay St. Louis…she stayed where we will be staying this summer.

We need people to bring rolls (large enough to hold bar-b-que); some type of dessert; or 2 liters of pop. Please contact Dawn with what you would like to bring.

There will not be youth group on April 1^st, because it is spring break.

Friday, April 13^th-14^th, we will be having a lock-in at the Morrison House! Plan to bring $10.00 each to cover food costs.

Plan to stay up ALL night!

We will meet at the church (time to be determined).

We will then have a “change” drive (instead of cans). We will go door-to-door to collect change on our way up to the overnight. Hence the theme “Let’s Make a Change”.

Practice Change

Mission Trip and Challenge '07

Calling all families with junior and senior high students!

We need to know your summer plans. I know, I know: it's a bit early. But we are trying to schedule our two big events (Challenge and the mission trip), and we hope to place these on the calendar at times that work for the greatest number of church families.

Please respond as soon as possible (but no later than January 22, please) with the following info:

Dates we KNOW will be conflicts for our family.

Date we THINK MAY be conflicts for our family.

The more input we have, the better we can serve your needs.

Just a quick note about Challenge. This year, for the first time, we will offer parallel Challenge events for junior and senior high students. Both the physical and the spiritual components will take place in groups divided into 7-9 grades (in the fall of '07), and 10-12.

Italian Dinner Practice

Hi Guys!

This Sunday we will have our first practice for the Italian Dinner Theater. It is very important that you attend this Sunday and future practices…there aren’t many practices so please make every effort to come. This is our biggest fundraiser for the mission trip so let’s make it great!

You will also receive tickets to sell and we will make some posters for promotion.

Please, please, please look over your scripts (and bring them on Sunday).

This Sunday we will be caroling at the Village at Bay Ridge and (most likely) at Country Living Estates. We will be doing this with the elementary youth group.

Lock-in

Hi Guys!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I did – I have a lot to be thankful for…and you guys are all right up there on my list!

This coming Saturday we will be having a lock-in at the church. It will start at 6:00 p.m. (please eat dinner before you come).

We are going to pick skits and roles for the Italian Dinner Theater. Mark your calendars…the Italian Dinner Theater is February 11th! Also, think about your talents and what you’d like to do (besides/in addition to a skit)…i.e. playing a musical instrument, singing, dancing, etc.

If you are NOT interested in performing at all, please consider being a part of the wait-staff.

This is one of our biggest fundraisers for the mission trip, so please consider being a part of it. It is a lot of fun and the audience loves it…they keep coming back every year!

After we pick skits and roles, we will go to Just for Kicks to play indoor soccer. The cost for this will be $5.00 each. Please bring cash with you.

After Just for Kicks, we will go back to the church and hang-out. We will need to be up a bit early to have breakfast and have the church picked up in time for bible study and the church service.

You will need to bring:

Clothes for Just for Kicks – shorts, t-shirts, socks, tennis shoes

Sleeping bag

Pillow

Pajamas

Air mattress/cot

Soap

Wash cloth

Make-up, etc…

Clothes for service on Sunday

Anything else I am forgetting…

Paintball

Hi!

Looks like we’re going to have a great turn out for paintball this Sunday!

So far we’ve got 23 people participating!

According to the weather channel on-line, the weather will be 45 degrees and partly cloudy.

You will want to wear layers…not only weather-wise, but also to avoid getting welts from the paintballs hitting you (unless you are so good that you don’t get hitJ)…and wear clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on (the paint will not wash out).

Some people end up getting warm and start removing articles of clothing…so make sure all layers are paint-worthy.

Could you please let me know if you can drive…we’ve got 23 people going, and so far only 9 seats available?

Also, if I haven’t heard from you, please let me know if you’re going so I can make sure there are enough seats to get us there.

Hope everyone is doing well and have gotten settled in and acclimated at school.

This is just a reminder that we are having youth group this Sunday.

After church, we will have lunch, fellowship and then head off to the old Hospital Grounds to play Christian Guard. We will have one of the kids who know how to play explain it during lunch.

If the weather looks iffy…bring rain gear…’cuz if it’s not too bad, we’ll still go…if it is really bad, we have a back-up plan.

Hi All!

It was great having all of you who attended last week’s hay ride and cook-out!

Fun was had by all!

The next meeting will be October 1st.

We will have lunch after church, fellowship and then head to the old state hospital grounds to play Christian Guard!

Christian Guard is a game that quite a few of the kids know how to play and will teach those of you who don’t…From what I’ve heard, it’s 100 times better than capture the flag!

So, put it on your calendar and plan to attend!
