Two Wild-Card Teams beat the two top-seeded Conference teams at home today

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Tennessee Titans 13-10 and the Arizona Cardinals are currently beating the Carolina Panthers 30-7 in the 4th quarter. I may be writing this a bit prematurely, but as I watch the Panthers and Cardinals play in the 4th quarter and watch the clock wind down, I feel safe predicting the win here!Carolina has turned the ball five times I believe. Same story in the Baltimore @ Tennessee game; the Ravens Defense forced the Titans Offense to turn the ball over numerous times thus helping keep their own offense on the field.

Tomorrow, Sunday January 11th, 2009, The two Divisional games will be Philadelphia @ New York Giants in the NFC and San Diego @ Pittsburgh in the AFC divisional game. The winner of the Philly / New York game will face the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Conference Championship. The winner of the San Diego / Pittsburgh game will gone on to play the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC Conference Championship. The winner of each Conference Championship will go on to play in Superbowl 43 (XVIII).

If the Panthers make a miracle come back in the next nine minutes, and counting down as a I write, than I will have to re-post a new blog, but I feel secure. If they do, you can make fun of me and call me names. Tomorrows' games should be fun. I'm looking forward to both match-ups and I'll write again soon when we know which team are in the Conference Championships for sure. Damn, I think Arizona is about to score again. Good night!

Scott
http://www.1nflpicks.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-46090513483027878592008-12-30T08:40:00.005-06:002008-12-30T09:21:17.127-06:00NFL Wild Card Playoff Weekend 2009It's finally here, the 2008 - 2009 NFL Playoffs! This is where the best of the best in both conferences battle it out to see who will reign as Conference champs and get their ticket to the biggest event of the year, Superbowl XLIII (Superbowl 43 for those who aren't the greatest with roman numerals... LOL.)

The road to the Superbowl begins with wildcard weekend. There will be four games total, 2 games on Saturday and two games on Sunday (January 3rd and January 4th, 2009). In the AFC the two wildcard match-ups are The Indianapolis Colts @ The San Diego Chargers, played on Saturday at 8:00PM Eastern, and on Sunday the Baltimore Ravens will travel to face the Miami Dolphins at 1:00 PM Eastern. The Colts / Chargers game will be shown on NBC television network, while the Ravens / Dolphins game will be broadcasted on CBS.

The NFC Wildcard Playoffs will kick off Saturday at 4:30 PM Eastern time, with the Atlanta Falcons @ the Arizona Cardinals live on NBC. On Sunday at 4:30 PM the Philadelphia Eagles @ Minnesota Vikings will be shown on the FOX network.

For the Divisional Playoffs, the two winners in the AFC will go on to face either The Pittsburgh Steelers or The Tennessee Titans, and the two NFC wildcard winners will move on to play the New York Giants or The Carolina Panthers. The actual outcomes of each conference's wildcard games will determine who plays who next weekend in the Divisional Playoff Round.

It's amazing some of the teams that did not make it into the playoffs this year. Everybody expected The Dallas Cowboys and The New England Patriots to make it. The Cowboys controlled their own destiny until they blew it the last two games of the year. The Patriots played very well without Tom Brady, in a very tough division, but fell short at the end.

There are a total of 7 out of 12 teams in the playoffs this year who did not make it last year! This is great for NFL football fans, as it makes for a very exciting post-season. Most of the teams are very evenly matched, yet have their own style of play. Of course, the defending Superbowl Champs, the New York Giants are a heavy favorite in the NFC, but I'd like to see someone new win it out this year. Some teams that I think may surprise us are The Baltimore Ravens in the AFC and the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC. Both teams are going to have to play very hard to make it to the big game, but they both have good chances based on the way they have been playing lately.

Donovin Mcnab has been ON FIRE since they benched him earlier in the season. It's like he is playing for his job (and I guess he kind of is). The last week (week 17) of the regular season the Philadelphia Eagles completely annihilated the Dallas Cowboys! It was a shock to many fans and professional football analyst. What happened to Tony Romo, Terrell Owens and the rest of the boys? I'm sure that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will do some serious thinking and re-structuring before the 2009 NFL season.

In the AFC, the Baltimore Ravens Defense has been Hot. They have proven that they can shut down almost any style of offense. Their own offense has stepped up, as rookie quarterback Joe Flacco has shown they he can compete with the big boys. How great would that be if this rookie made it to the Superbowl his first year? Just making it to the playoffs is a great accomplishment and his fans, friends, and family should be very proud of this young 23 (almost 24) year old.

Now, only time will tell who will move on. The 2008 regular NFL season has been a very interesting one as teams like the Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins made it to the post-season after very bad 2007 seasons. At the beginning of this year many "experts" were saying that these two teams were the worst in the league! Where are these guys now and what are they saying? It's the NFL guys, anything can happen with professionals!

Who do I think is going to advance further in the playoffs? As you know from previous posts and my website, I'm a huge Oakland Raider fan, but they were absolutely horrible this season (at least not as bad as the Detroit Lions).

Although there is a little bid of sadness, at the same time there is great excitement as week 17 of the regular season will concrete in the wild-card playoff contenders for both the NFC and AFC. As of today there are seven teams that have clinched a playoff birth with 5 spots up for grab. The NFC is a little more stable than the AFC due in part to the AFC East close division. The seven teams that are already guaranteed are: Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and New York Giants in the NFC. In the AFC, the Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, and Pittsburgh Steelers have locked in their right to the Playoffs. In the NFC, the New York Giants have locked in home-field advantage, and the Titans have in the AFC.

The race in the AFC for the final spots is very cluttered and a little bit complicated. The AFC East has been a tight race all year and what is sad, is that a team or two that deserves to be in the Playoffs are may not make it. The New England Patriots have a chance, but they do not control their own destiny, same with the New York Jets. In that division, if Miami wins, they are in as the #3 playoff seed and divisional leader. In the weakest division in the league, the AFC West, the San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos play in the final regular season game to see who wins the division and a playoff spot.

One team that I think has been underrated until the last two weeks is the Baltimore Ravens. Now experts are agreeing that they would be very "scary" to have to meet in the playoffs. Their defense is top-notch, and their offense is not too shabby either. The Ravens quarterback, , looked very good the past few weeks when they beat Dallas and they put up some serious points. They also hung in their against Pittsburgh and although they lost, they only allowed 13 points.

In the NFC, the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Philadelphia Eagles are still alive. Minnesota controls their own destiny, if they win they are in. The Bears and Eagles need some help to make it in, I don't think they are going to do it this year as Minnesota is looking good. Many say the Giants are still the team to beat, but second seed Carolina is also another contender that could go far.

We'll see what happens tomorrow with week 17 and I'll post the definite Wild-Card match-ups once everything is determined. That's all for now. Good luck and happy betting!

Scott
http://www.1nflpicks.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-82169854101291944422008-11-29T17:24:00.006-06:002008-11-29T17:30:21.747-06:00Giants Star Plaxico Burress Shot Himself in Leg Friday NightNew York Giants wide receiver accidentally shot himself on the leg on Friday Night at a night-club. The Giants reported that the accidental shooting was in his right thy. Plaxico was already ruled out of Sunday's game due to a hamstring industry.

The injury is not life threatening, but his football playing status and rest of his career is definitely in question. Domenick Hixon will need to step up in Plaxico's place.

Plaxico's has had a variety of issues this past year including:

Skipping off-season workouts and Veteran Mini-camp because of a contract dispute in June.

In October Burress was suspended for a game against the Seahawks for an unstated violation of team rules.

Later in October he was fined and benched in a game vs the Steelers for missing treatment, and finally yesterday, November 28th, 2008 he accidentally shot himself in the leg at a night club.

It sounds like Burress has not been focused on his job this year and is into other things that are affecting his career. Giants Coach, Tom Coughlin, has got to be upset about his star player's actions.

Continued team distractions are not tolerated well by championship teams like the New York Giants and only time will tell what will happen.

The Giants obviously have no comment on this incident as it could become a criminal matter as well as a team/league issue.

Scott
http://www.1nflpicks.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-47984217164184691552008-11-16T18:33:00.003-06:002008-11-16T18:51:22.265-06:00San Diego Chargers @ Pittsburgh Steelers Week 11If you are one of the many who bet on the San Diego Chargers @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-5.5) during week 11 of the 2008 NFL season, what an odd series of events at the end of the game to either loose or win you it for you! The official final score was Steelers 11, Chargers 10. But there was some interesting action in the final moments that had me clenching my you know what!

The Steelers had the game, barring a miracle for the Chargers with a few seconds left. San Diego had the ball and one last chance, the San Diego quarterback, Philip Rivers, went to throw a pass, but it was knocked out of his hand as his arm was going backward (from mine and many others' point of view.) When the ball was knocked out, the Steelers grabbed it and scored a touchdown. Players began to celebrate and come on to the field, but according to rules the extra point must be kicked even with 0:00 remaining on the clock.

The special teams came out and made the extra point, making the current final 18-10 in the Steelers favor. Apparently while special teams were out to score the extra point, the play was under review from the booth (in the final 2 minutes of the game, reviews can only be called by the officials in the booth).

The final verdict was that the pass thrown by Philip Rivers was an incomplete pass and not a fumble! This meant that the touchdown scored by the Steelers did not count. This announcement was made literally just seconds before fading the game out to the show 60 minutes, on CBS.

This may not mean much to those who are only betting "straight-up" and not regarding the spread, but to sports investors everywhere, this was the difference in loosing or winning the game. After the game, my partner Barry made a comment that I thought was interesting. He said this: "You know how they say it ain't over till it's over? Well I guess it's not even over when it's over". Interesting, think about that one for a minute.

Overall it has been a good week 11 regarding our NFL picks. We still have the Sunday Night and Monday Night game's to finish up the week, but we are currently 11-2-1 Straight-up, and 9-5 against the spread. Remember, you can get 3 free picks each week, or get all of our premium picks, for a fair price, from our "order now" page. Week 10 kicked off on Thursday Night, November 6th with the Denver Broncos coming from behind in the 4th quarter to beat the Cleavland Browns 34 -30. That was an exciting game and a good performance from backup, 2nd year, Browns Quarterback Brady Quinn, despite the loss.

Some of Sunday's games will include New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens @ Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers @ Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts @ Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles, as well as several other matchups. You can get always get the latest odds, lines, and point-spreads from my site.

Week 10 will end with Monday Night's game with the San Francisco 49ers @ The Arizona Cardinals (-9.5). The 9 & 1/2 point spread is provided by Bodog Sportsbook and is current as of my writing this on Saturday Night, November 8th. Of course the line may vary slightly from different sources and even change according to different game factors. What's important is the point-spread that you lock-in and bet on with the particular sportsbook that you placed your bet with.

Scott
http://www.1nflpicks.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-80470946432789366132008-10-29T12:25:00.002-05:002008-10-29T12:59:34.726-05:00Giants - Steelers Game: NFL Rules Penalties and FinesI enjoyed this past weekend's NFL games as usual, but there is one thing that is starting to tick me off about this great sport that we have all come to love! Some of the leagues' new rules have simply gone too far in my opinion. The new rules have been put in place over the last several years to protect the NFL players from getting injured as much, which I can totally understand the intent, but I believe that there needs to be more discretion used by the referees and judges, and the NFL itself.

A perfect example of what I am talking about happened as I was watching the New York Giants @ Pittsburgh Steelers game this Sunday. A "Late Hit" penalty was called on Giants safety Kenny Phillips got for slamming into Steelers running back Mewelde Moore.

Troy Aikman, who was a sports commentator/analyst announcing Sunday's game, disagreed with the unnecessary roughness penalty saying that: "I think the league has gone a little too far on some of the calls that they have been making, whether it's fines later in the week, or calls like we just saw during games," Aikman said. "It's a real slippery slope, and I'm a little concerned with what exactly you tell some of these defensive players."

No, I'm not a professional football player, but I am an avid fan, and fans will agree that we pay to see the action and we don't want anything taken away from our sport! The last thing we need is for NFL football to get "soft". It's not just me complaining about this, several NFL players agree that Commissioner Roger Goodell has taken some of these rules and actions beyond reason.

This is a high-speed game and we don't want to slow it down! If I want slow paced action, I'll watch MLB baseball. Realistically, on that particular late hit penalty called against Phillips could not have been prevented. Kenny Phillips was running toward the receiver as the ball was in mid-air being passed to an eligible receiver, who could have caught the ball, but bobbled it instead. If Moore (the receiver) would have caught it, he still would have been hit and tackled, or had the ball knocked loose causing an incompletion or fumble. If this would have happened, there would have been no penalty on the play.

On this specific play, the defensive player was doing his job well, running down and across the field to make a play on the receiver. There is no way he could have slammed on the foot breaks and stop, even if he knew the ball was not going to be caught. I strongly believe this was an unnecessary call, but what is sad is that there have been others and there will be more similar to this incident.

Players agree that football and playing in the NFL is a tough, violent job. They knew this when they signed up for it and that is one of the reasons they are compensated huge sums of money to entertain us. Yes, we want to protect our players, but don't ruin the game we love trying to do so. If things continue on like this, the sport will get softer and less entertaining. Less entertaining means, less ticket sales, and overall less revenue. The NFL Corporate guys need to think about that.

Scott
http://www.1nflpicks.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-13214943318439955492008-10-24T21:54:00.003-05:002008-10-24T22:07:00.361-05:00NFL Drug Policy Viloation Suspension Saints & OtherThe Big news in the NFL today is the positive results in approximately 10 NFL players for a banned substance. The substance is apparently like Dexatrim and used as a diuretic to loose weight, however it also also a know substance that is used to mask steroid use and abuse, thus making it a banned drug in the NFL.

Among the several players are four players on the NFL Saints including two stars; Deuce McAllister and Will Smith. Everyone who failed the drug tests are facing a possible 4 game suspension and probably a monetary fine. There was one attorney named David Cornwell who was hired to represent several of the players.

The players will be allowed to appeal, but will still most likely have to face the suspension. This could prove very crucial at mid-season where the race for position and playoffs heat up. Some of the players say that they were doing it for weight loss and did not know it was a banned substance, but critics and ex-players agree that they knew exactly what they were doing. Whether using for weight loss or using it to mask other drugs, such as steroids, you are told from day one what the rules are.

Scott
http://www.1nflpicks.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-66902689107528946592008-10-19T08:51:00.004-05:002008-10-19T09:02:43.096-05:0018 game regular season? If you have already read my current NFL News section on my website this week ,then you already have heard about NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, is contemplating an 18 game regular season! This possible change I fear is fueled by greed and not for the enjoyment of the fans, or well-being of the players.

The possible change would make the last two pre-season games into regular season games. This is an attempt to bring in more revenue to the money hungry NFL, but it puts all of our All-Stars health at stake. The current training camp, regular season, and playoff system is rigorous enough.

Every week these guys risk life & limb to entertain us. True, they get paid very well for the risk, but let's think logically here. The more these starters and other players have to play, the more beat up they are going to be. Remember Tom Brady getting injured during week 1 this year and is out for the entire season! I fear that we'll see a lot more of that if the scheduled is changed.

To me, the current system works well and make sense, so why change it? The change up of the divisions and wild card playoff system a few years ago made complete sense considering the current number of NFL teams. This new proposed change however, makes no sense to me other than a move by the NFL Corporate leaders to bring in more sales revenue.

Email me with your opinions on this topic if you'd like.

Scott
http://www.1nflpicks.com
1nflpicks@gmail.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-9814080895252337682008-10-18T20:08:00.006-05:002008-10-18T20:23:03.522-05:00Current NFL odds and game matchup statsJust another quick reminder that you can always view the latest nfl odds directly from my site. They have much of the same talent and leadership, but their main star quarterback and field leader is gone and you can see it has hurt them.

The Packers probably really regret trading Favre now as Aaron Rodgers is currently injured and not going to start this week. The Packers are a decent team, but need a good leader at the quarterback position. Maybe the third-string can step-up, we'll see.

Their are several exciting matchups that I'm looking forward to in week 7 of the nfl season. One game is the Indianapolis Colts @ Green Bay Packers. The Colts were playing like the Colts of old and are slightly favored going into Cheese Head land. Indianapolis is favored by 2&1/2 points currently.

Another game I'm dying to see is the San Diego Chargers @ Buffalo Bills. The Chargers are a 1&1/2 point favorite, but this should be a tough one for them. Both team are playing well and I hope for a great game. Week 7 starts on October 19th, 2008 and wraps up with the Monday Night game, on October 20th, with the Denver Broncos @ the New England Patriots (-3).

The Patriots are favored, but have a lot going against them. This point spread is close but Denver is playing very well and has more overall net yards for the season. I'm not saying this is all to look at, but one factor in our overall formula. Feel free to visit our free picks and/or our premium week 7 nfl picks from our order page.

Scott
http://www.1nflpicks.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-78260887124116270302008-10-09T23:41:00.004-05:002008-10-09T23:59:40.866-05:00Adam "Pacman" Jones in more trouble as Roger Goodell RespondsYou would think that a player in the NFL could manage his job duties and stay out of trouble considering he has had the privilege to earn Millions of dollars playing a sport that he loves, but Dallas Cowboys player, Adam Jones, a.k.a. Pacman, has a long history of incidents involving law enforcement over various issues.

This past Tuesday night, before Wednesday, one of the most important practice days in the NFL, Jones managed to get in trouble with authorities called to his hotel room. Apparently he had gotten in some altercation with one of the body-guards hired by the team to watch him so he stays out of trouble! I have read reports that Dallas is paying for 4 different body guards to watch him around the clock so that he stays out of trouble and can play.

According to local police; the player struck his bodyguard, but that the bodyguard declined to press charges. There was minor property damage reported. Jerry Jones will not be fining or suspending Adam Jones because he said the incident happened while playing around got out of hand.

What the heck is a grown man who gets paid millions of dollars doing getting in trouble? This is ridiculous. The team does not need these kinds of distractions, not matter how good the player is supposed to be. This is a team sport and Adam Jones is not helping the team by causing issues like this.

NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell has responded disappointingly as this is not the first time he has had to deal with "Pacman". In an ESPN Radio interview Goodell stated: "I guess I would tell you I'm disappointed we're even discussing this at this point and time,". The Tennessee Titans let Jones go after 12 separate incidents that became a huge team distraction.

The Cowboys are still a very strong and focused team, but they will have to discipline and possible eventually get rid of any distractions slowing the team down.

Scott

http://www.1nflpicks.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-82222350021807218572008-10-08T23:27:00.003-05:002008-10-08T23:55:43.274-05:00NFL Lines, point spread, nfl oddsIf you are new to the betting world there are probably several confusing things that your are trying to learn or figure out before wagering your money on any game. You need to understand what you are doing before you risk your investment!

I don't really feel like giving you a while betting terms glossary at this point, although I am currently making one to publish on the web, I just want to explain to you a few of the main betting terms and what they mean.

First of all, my crew and I are experts at predicting nfl picks. And because we specialize in making NFL picks, we tend to focus on two of the three main betting methods. We prefer to bet against the point spread and on the over/under as opposed to the moneyline.

The point spread is the number of points that a team is favored to win by. For example a pick may read: Dallas Cowboys (-6) @ Arizona Cardinals. This means that they Cowboys are favored to win by six points. If you bet on Dallas, they need to win by more than 6 points for you to win your bet. If they beat the Cardinals by a score of 24-19, and you bet on Dallas, you lost. You would loose because they only won by 5 points. If they won by 6, it would be a tie. If they one by 7 or more than you would win. If you bet on Arizona in this example, they could actually loose the game straight-up, but win against the spread if they loose by less than 6.

The Over/Under is the number that the oddsmakers make on what they total points scored in a game will be. You bet that the total will be either over or under this number. Of course, you win if you choose correctly. Another example: If the over/under number in the Dallas Cowboys @ Arizona Cardinals game is 50, you bet "over" and the final score is 26-32 then you win because the combined total is over 50. If the score of the game ends up being 25-24 then you loose if you chose over because the combined total is only 49.

The Moneyline is a more used in baseball and hockey because the scores are less than football and basketball. An example of a moneyline: Sticking with our previous matchup, lets say the moneyline is posted as Dallas Cowboys (-105) @ Arizona Cardinals (-115). What this means is that if you bet $105 dollars on the Cowboys, and they won, you would win $100 + your original $105 = $205 total. If you bet $115 on Arizona and they won, you would get your $115 back plus win $110, making for a total of $215.

Let's use one more example to clarify to moneyline: Let's say we have a game posted as: Green Bay Packers (-130) @ Seattle Seahawks (+110). What this means is that if you bet $130 on Green Bay you will win $100 if they win. You will get your initial $130 + $100 making for a total of $230. If you bet just $100 on Seattle, and they win, you will win $110, plus your $100 making for a total of $210.

Get the picture now? All of whom are very tough competitors, but for the last two weeks in a row the Dolphins have proven that they can compete with top rated teams and win.

In week 3 of the season, the Dolphins upset the Patriots in New England by a score of 38 - 17, and they were underdogs by 13&1/2 points! They had a good rest and bye week during week 4, but came out strong week 5, on Sunday. The Miami Dolphins were once again the underdog by 7 points as they played the San Diego Chargers in Miami. The Dolphins came out on top with a score of 17 - 10.

Next week, week 6 of the regular 2008 season, the Dolphins go up against the Houston Texans on the road. This should be an interesting game. Even though the Texans are 0-4, they barely lost against the Colts on Sunday. The Texans had the game in the bag and blew a late 4th quarter lead, due to three very quick turnovers that Payton Manning and Indy was able to capitalize on.

I think we have two under-rated teams playing each other, as the Dolphins have proven they can beat top ranking teams and the Texans are starved for a win and proved that they can be very competitive as well. There is no point-spread posted yet as I write this, but I will be checking in the morning as I am very interested in this match-up.

Miami will have to keep the momentum going to stay in the running for the playoffs in there tough division. Houston needs a win badly for pride and morale. They do not want to let their home fans down and I'm sure will be practicing hard this week.

If you'd like access to our free picks, do so by filling out your name & email address at the bottom of this page. Boldin had to be carted off the field in a scary moment for players, family, friends, and fans. Thankfully Anquan did not suffer any major injuries and should be able to practice and play again soon.

The NFL ruled that helmet-to-helmet contact was not allowed because of the apparent danger to players. Smith's actions violated a section of the NFL Official Playing Rules, which specifically prohibit this action.

Most of the players in the game, such as Kurt Warner, stated that they did not believe the hit was intentional and these types of accidents happen in the NFL. The Jets are not saying whether or not Boldin will be ready to play for the game next Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

The League office issued a memo to the players stating that player safety is an very important issue and they will not tolerate unnecessary injuries caused by illegal and dangerous hits. All players who intentionally violate these rules will be punished to the fullest extent.

Football is a tough and very physical game. Players get injured frequently, especially in the NFL, but it is the price that they pay to play the game...but they get compensated very well for it!

Scott
http://www.1nflpicks.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-15623025695893532842008-09-28T19:33:00.005-05:002008-09-28T20:40:07.221-05:00Brett Farve Throws for 6 touchdownsBrett Farve threw for a career high six touchdowns today ( Sunday, September 28th, 2008 ). The 38 year old veteran quarterback showed everybody that he still has it in him. The New York Jets blasted past the Arizona Cardinals by a score of 56 -35. The Cardinals quarterback, Kurt Warner is also a long time veteran at the ripe age of 37 and both quarterbacks are speculated to be "past their prime".

While Farve made a few early mistakes, he quickly made up for them and continued to march on throughout the game. Three of his touchdowns were thrown to Laveranues Coles. The Arizona Cardinals and Kurt Warner made a series of mistakes that New York Jets and Brett Farve continued to capitalize on. New York's defense forced three fumbles and two interceptions in the first half and set a franchise record by scoring 34 points in the second quarter.

Brett Farve played as if he had no left ankle injury that he hobbled with all week during practice. When it comes to game time, this man definitely gets in the zone. Brett Farve finished the game with 289 passing yards, completing 24 out of 34 ( approximately 71% ). Farve also had his six touchdown passes as mentioned and only one interception.

Kurt Warner competed the game with 472 passing yards, but only 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, which was of course key to their loss. Turnovers loose games, it's as simple as that. Kurt Warner is still a talented quarterback, but his performance today was that of a player past his prime.

This was a very high scoring game and I'm sure an exciting one for the fans. This was obviously one of the best games of Brett Farve's career and it proves that Farve is a skilled quarterback, still a pro, has the ability to, and can keep still keep up with the young guys. To those in the Jet's franchise who were skeptical of Farve's move to New York, this should show that it was a good decision.

Scott
http://www.1nflpicks.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-86150893519497579982008-09-22T10:25:00.003-05:002008-09-22T10:30:25.883-05:00Monday Night NFL Football GameWelcome back to work, the weekend's always seem to go by so fast, but now it's back to work. Even though Monday's can be a drag for a lot of people, there is one great thing about Monday and that is Monday Night Football! There are usually high profile games, such as division rivals, or big market teams that play on Monday Night. This week we have the New York Jets @ the San Diego Chargers. The game starts Monday, September 22nd, at 8:30 Eastern time.

Neither team is off to a great start this year. The Jets are 1-1, and the Chargers are 0-2! The Chargers are favored by more than a touchdown with a point-spread of 8&/12. For those of you still new at this; this would show as:
New York Jets & San Diego Chargers (-8.5). This basically means that the Jets have an 8&1/2 point advantage as they are considered to be the underdog. They can loose the game by 8 points and still beat the spread, which would win money if you bet on them and this happened.

Of course, the lines-makers or odds-makers as they are known, are very good at what they do. These Multi-Million and Multi-Billion Dollar enterprises pay top dollar to people with the skills to study team statistics, current nfl events, weather conditions, trends, and much more to help develop the point-spread or odds line. There are many computer programs which people use to aid them in this process, but I steel feel nothing is better than good old fashioned, hard nosed investigating.

I will use computer models as a reference point, but I will not allow it to influence me to make my final decision. There are too many factors that computers just can't take into consideration. A perfect example of this is one of Sunday's games yesterday. The Patriots were heavily favored by 13 against a very low ranking team, the Miami Dolphins and the Dolphins beat them up in New England! The final score was 38 - 13! Pretty amazing when you only focus on statistics, but when you start to look at factors that computer can't determine you can see what happened.

Tom Brady went out early in week 1 with a knee injury as I have wrote about. We knew this would start to affect team morale as Brady has been the leader in New England for several years. True, the team is still very talented and should have been able to crush the Dolphins, but without their on-field leader, 1st String Quarterback Tom Brady, things start to fall apart eventually. I believe Brady was the Glue that held all the great talent together(on the field), and what will happen to the team, only time will tell.

My point of all that was that you can't bet based on statistics alone, you must pay attention to everything currently going on with both teams. In tonight's Monday Night game, The Chargers are currently an 8&1/2 point favorite as I previously mentioned, and they have home field advantage. They are off to a bad start and would love to get their first win at home, so I anticipate they will be playing very tough as they do not want to start the season at 0-3. As far as covering the point-spread, well, that is a different story. There are some other factors that come into play that could make the score closer. We'll see what happens, it should be a good game.

If you want to check out our professional opinion and see are picks, please order a picks package that is right for you. I must say that I still much rather enjoy watching the game on my High-Def 42" flat-screen plasma TV with surround sound, but I was forced (by my lovely wife) to the home office so my wife could watch her re-runs of CSI or what ever girly reality show she is currently following.

On the bright side, the site layout and options are interesting. They offer five different camera views and angles, plus you can see all of them at all times, and also choose one main one to be the biggest view. The views are: Broadcast Cam, Sideline Cam, End Zone Cam, Cable Cam, and a camera that follows Dallas wide receiver, Terrel Owens ( T.O. ), and Green Bay's Quarter Back Quarter Back, Aaron Rogers.

The quality is very good, but I do also have cable Internet, with a one year old computer and 17" flat screen monitor. Many of my friends have better computer equipment then me, so I'm sure you could set something up and get pretty into the game.

Even though I was kicked off my Big Screen, I had plenty of work on the computer to get to anyway, including maintenance to the 1NFLpicks.com site. As I was checking over game stats, I couldn't help but miss the big headline advertising to watch the game live on the computer. I'm sure this isn't brand new, but it's the first time I've experienced it and I must say that it is pretty cool.

*I'm actually writing this blog as I'm watching the game in the 3rd quarter and Dallas is driving down the field again, already leading 13-9 and about to score again....o wait Marion Barber of Dallas just scored on a fake slant, draw play up to middle for a touch down. The extra point was just scored and it it currently Dallas 20, Green Bay 9.

See, this is pretty cool, I'm watching a game while I'm writing my blog at the same time! Give it a shot! No matter what your job is, you can at least take a break and check out the game live online, while you multi-task, such as working on documents, checking emails, etc... Or try it out even if your wife just kicks you off your big screen and you don't feel like arguing between watching football or a girly movie.

Just hold your breath, go to your man-space and relax. Kick back and enjoy the game via your computer, or even your phone if you have the right type of phone and access. I don't personally use the phone and live broadcast yet, but you never know. Either way, I recommend checking out the next "Sunday Night Football Extra" through www.nfl.com.

I'll have to check if ESPN offers online broadcast of the Monday Night game via ESPN.com. The New York Jets are 8&1/2 point (+8.5) underdogs @ The San Diego Chargers on tomorrow, Monday Night's game. I plan on watching it on the Big Screen, but lately the kids and wife have forced me to the office to get my simple. I know there's probably a lot of guys out there they may say "you're whopped", but all the married guys with kids understand. I've got a 5 year old and 2 year old boy, plus a beautiful, high maintenance wife, high mortgage, busy schedule, etc... Sometimes you have to pick your battles with your spouse and I was just trying to offer an alternative for those of you who didn't know you could watch the games live on the computer for free.
Scotthttp://www.1nflpicks.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-29043755707724216072008-09-21T11:03:00.004-05:002008-09-21T11:30:40.097-05:00nfl oddsYou can now view live NFL odds via my website. The line changes that do occur are slight (like a 1/2 point to 2 points) as the odds-makers try to even their books due to too many people betting on one team.

You can find the most current NFL odds and NFL lines via our page, Live NFL Odds, which can also be found as a link on the right side menu on this page.

Betting against the spread is a lot tougher than betting straight-up, or without regard to the spread. Many office pool picks are done without use of the spread, but some are. In places such as Las Vegas and online casinos, the point-spread or odds are a must as it is the tool bookies use to make the betting as even as possible, so that an equal amount of people bet on both sides.

There's only about one hour left until kick-off and I've got to get prepared for the games. Okay, that is it for today, I'm ready for some football! Let's have a great Sunday and good luck to everyone!

Scott
http://www.1nflpicks.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-69889512374499486282008-09-20T10:54:00.005-05:002008-09-20T11:06:10.983-05:00Free NFL PicksHere are the week 3 free NFL picks. Week 3 ( or week three ) of the NFL season has several exciting match-ups that we are looking forward too.

This week's Monday Night Game with the New York Jets @ San Diego should be interesting one, especially with a point-spread of (-9) for New York. It is true that San Diego is proven, tough, and at home. And it is also true the the Jets fate is still unknown, but this would be a great one for them to prove themselves as true contenders.

San Diego could have a great game, but can they out-score the Jets by more than nine points? This is where you compare New York's Offense against San Diego's Defense. *The Chargers beat the Jets in rushing yards, passing yards, points against, and. The Charger's Defense is a little weaker in the receiving yards, so I think the Jets chance is to out-pass the Chargers.

*All of this data and statistics are fresh and from this season.

On Sunday, September 21st, most of the week three games will be played at 1 & 4 Eastern time. A game I'm looking at in particular on this one is the Dallas Cowboys @ Green Bay Packers. They are both undefeated and have long been rivals. Of course Green Bay has the awesome home filed advantage with all of their cheese heads, but will the Cowboy's, and all their great talent, let Green Bay stand in their way? Well, take the time to analyze it and tell me what you think. The bookies have the NFL odds in this game in the favor of Dallas by three; Cowboys (-3) .
There are the rest of the games from the rest of the 32 teams in the NFL league. Here is a quick run-down of week 3's games:

Sunday, September 21, 2008

1:00 PM Eastern Time
Kansas City Chiefs @ Atlanta Falcons
Oakland Raiders @ Buffalo Bills
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Chicago Bears
Miami Dolphins @ New England Patriots
Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Giants
Houston Texans @ Tennessee Titans
Arizona Cardinals @ Washington Redskins

4:05 PM E.S.T
New Orleans Saints @ Seattle Seahawks

4:15 PM E.S.T
Cleveland Browns @ Baltimore Ravens
Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Philadelphia Eagles

8:15 PM E.S.T.
Dallas Cowboys @ Green Bay Packers

-------------
Monday, September,22 2008

8:30 PM E.S.T
New York Jets @ San Diego Chargers

We look forward to another winning week. Monday Night is the final game of week two and it is the Philadelphia Eagles @ the Dallas Cowboys (-7).

Anway, this week was another week full of surprises and underdogs coming up. This was great if you knew who the right underdogs to pick were. Some got massacared. Let's run down the scoreboard real quick:

Carolina 20
Chicago 17

Tennesee 24
Cincinatti 7

Green Bay 48
Detroit 25

Buffalo 20
Jacksonville 16

Oakland 23
Kansas City 8

Indianapolis 18
Minnesota 15

New York Giants 41
St. Louis 13

Washington 29
New Orleans 24

San Fransico 33
Seattle 30

Tampa Bay 24
Atlanta 9

Arizona 31
Miami 10

Denver 39
San Diego 38

New England 19
New York Jets 10

Pittsburg 19
Cleveland 6

Philladelpia @ Dallas: Monday, September 15th, 2008, 8:30 PM EST on ESPN.

Good luck and keep up the good work. We are already looking at the week 3 nfl matchups. We know that we'll improve each week as the players and teams are showing their true talents, strenghts, and weaknesses. Week three is going to be another exciting, money making week and we'll talk some more about those games in a later blog. Good night!

Scott
http://www.1nflpicks.com/

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-146871377839575712008-09-10T14:28:00.005-05:002008-09-10T14:57:38.434-05:00Titans & Patriots Without Vince Young and Tom BradyVince Young, Quarter Back of Tennessee Titans, is going to be out at least 4 weeks with a MCL sprain in his left knee. This is not good news for the Titans at all. To top it off Vince Young was actually reported missing on Monday because nobody could get a hold of him.

Young's physiological health has now been in question as he had been acting strange since their season opener which they won 17 - 10 over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Young through two interceptions in this game and was booed by hometown fans. It is reported that he did not look like he wanted to return to the game after that incident and then a few plays later, he sprained his knee ligament. Young is expected to return to action in 4 weeks. We'll see how the Titans do without him.

The New England Patriot's loss of Tom Brady is even more crucial. The Pats have been a dynasty for a while, but all good things must come to an end and the fall of this one domino may start a chain reaction. Brady injured his knee on Sunday's game against the Chiefs. It is more than just sprained, it is torn ACL...not good.

Brady will be out for the rest of the season and require surgery on his left knee. Now the Patriots will have to ride on with quarterback Matt Cassel. How this will affect the rest of the team, as well as the AFC North Division and AFC Conference is still unknown, but I can tell you that it is horrible for the Patriots and great for the rest of the AFC, especially the New York Jets who play that Pats next Sunday.

Injuries are going to occur in the NFL, it's just part of the job. But it still hurts the players, their team-mates, the fans, and the pocket books of millions of fantasy football players. As a team owner or shareholder I'd be cringing at the though of my Multi-Million Dollar player sitting out the whole season, but that's part of the game!

Scott
http://www.1nflpicks.com

Irrigationmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07452786145160380726noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-830573737990784990.post-79967406298001057972008-09-08T20:47:00.010-05:002008-09-09T00:13:07.044-05:00Monday Night Picks 2008 Week 1 - Week 2 NFL ComingWe have or have had (depending on when I post this and when you read it) two Monday Night games. Both are great division rivalries. The first game starting at 7:00 PM E.S.T is the Minnesota Vikings at the Green Bay Packers. The Packers are favored by 2. There do look like a stronger team and have home field advantage, but division games often come close. Well, not close enough for those of us who bet on the Viking Against the Spread though as the final outcome was Packers 24, Viking 19.

The Viking had a chance with their final possession immediately beginning after the two minute warning they received a kickoff. A march down the field and a touchdown would have sealed the deal for them, but instead, an interception by Green Bay finalized the game.

The second Monday Night game of the night was the Denver Broncos @ the Oakland Raiders. This is one of the most heated division rivalries in NFL football history. The Raiders usually perform excellent on Monday night and it is their season opener. With all that being said, Denver is still favored by 3. The Raiders are in a re-building stage and are not as strong as they are going to be in future years. My hear is with Oakland, but my money is on Denver. Ahhh, pull that knife out of my heart...that sure is gut-wrenching! I just can't bet based on emotion! And if I'm wrong I'm going to feel even more like crap...why do I do this? Okay folks, since you don't know me that well, I'm just being acting stupid, being silly, or whatever you prefer.

It is currently half time in the Denver Broncos @ Oakland Raiders Game. Denver, the favorite with (-3) is beating Oakland 17 -0. I sure love Oakland, but they are still rebuilding I will always root for them, just not always bet on them. Unless some miracle happens in the second quarter it looks like our predictions will be correct, but I piece of me hates myself for going against my team, but I have learned that business is business. If something in this game miraculous does happen, I'm sure I'll write about it tomorrow in another blog.

Okay, I started this blog earlier tonight and it is now 11:00 P.M. my time so ,that is all for tonight. I wish everyone a great week and week look forward to week 2 of the NFL season and have great fun analyzing our games, stats, talking, reading, watching, and making our pick decisions. Week 2 contains many division match ups we can often play a key role down the road when it comes to who makes the playoffs and who doesn't or even down to home field advantage.

The are a few interesting match ups we'll be looking at even more closely such as the New England Patriots @ The New York Jets. I am very interested to see how New England will play without Tom Brady and their 2nd string (insert name) play up against the revived New York Jets and veteran Brett Favre. More interesting is to see how the odds-makers and bookies will calculate their spread based on this.

Some of the week 2 picks are already posted, with the exception of a few games because of the unfinished Monday night games, plus it is still a little early in the week.
