The theme this week at Mixed Media Monday is I am woman. So I am going to join in this fun and enter my journal. I made this weekend, and I am thinking this sassy one is woman... This is a journal that celebrates the Big Easy, New Orleans. I used an image from an old postcard featuring buildings in the French Quarter. I had a stunning old hankie with this fabulous lace around it, so I used it in a few pieces this weekend. The photo is beautiful...nude but classy. Can't wait to see what you all come up with for this challenge.

An ARTFUL WEEKEND

What a nice weekend this has been. I had two full days of working in my art room; I got some new things made for my Etsy shop...wheels are turning about some holiday gifts. We had beautiful weather here in La. and that is a true blessing. Not to warm, no rain no humidity...I could take days like this all year long. But then, I would not appreciate this, right?

I have no clue what dinner will be, at this late hour with nothing in the works, maybe something like take out? I hope you all had a nice and relaxing, enjoyable weekend as well. Here are a few of my newest pieces.

TURNING OVER A NEW LEAF....

I know I keep saying I must find time to blog...well I am saying it once again. I have to find a way to organize my time and still do all the things I want to do. You know what I think it is, I need to FOCUS! I do have a hard time slowing down and completing one task...anyways... so that is what the leaf is for.

And this little beauty...I have been watching for 2 months. I know things are priced to high in the antique shops. This was at my local consignment shop and they wanted 75.00 for it. It is a huge portrait and the frame is exquisite, just a bit of paint peeling from it...but no chips in it. I wanted to shell out the money right away, but I decided to take the change and wait. This shop reduces prices at 1, 2, 3 months. Lowest they go down is 50% off. So I did wait the 2 months for the 40% discount. Now she resides on my living room wall, and I adore her. It is just dreamy...

Hello everyone...I have not blogged since Oct. 27th...OY! I hope to surf blogland this evening and check up on you all. I am playing with dolls again. I am down to one Frozen Charlotte left for my art, I have one I am not parting with...lol. So I will be checking out Etsy...do see if I can find some more. As well as start Christmas shopping on Etsy...can't be November already, can it?

PLAYING WITH MY DOLL HEADS....

So today I am looking at my stash of doll heads and I am thinking, what can I do with them. I can't paint, I do not know how to make dolls...and this is what I came up with. I was going to list this cute little tray in my Remember Yesterday Etsy shop, but the wheels started turning and my muse started talking to me and poof....a creation emerged.

I used the tray, on top of that this sweet little vintage hankie case that was delicately hand painted. I added some bling and the doll bust. She wears a piece from a vintage linen and I strung some pearls for her neckline. Finally I added a little embroidered butterfly to the top of her head. So sweet.... off to create some more. Ok, so at the estate sale today, the man told me if you like porcelain, there is much more in the house. I found some beautiful works of art. These 3 pieces I got for a steal, a steal. I HAD to have them when I heard the story of the woman who lived in this house. She was an artist, in porcelain dolls. These are handmade, hand sculpted. She used lace and ribbons and rags dipped in porcelain to create these. They really are not my taste in decor, but I had to take them, someone needed to give them some love. I can't imagine how much time it took her to create these. Some of the tiny little fingers are missing, but so what. Her love of these dolls will live with me for awhile. The story of this husband and wife now gone touched my heart. I find estate sales sad, so many things I would cherish as a child, are going for nothing.... to bad. And of course my friend Bridgette asked of the home and the people who lived there, I didn't want to know, because I didn't want to be sad, but instead I brought some cherished pieces...and I know she is smiling down...knowing someone was impressed with her talent. The daughter kept thanking us for giving these items a new home.

ESTATE SALE~*~ DOLLS GONE WILD

I had the oppurturnity to go to an estate sale today with my friend Bridgette. Well besides a lot of laughs and much fun, we both found many treasures. I found the mother load of dolls heads, parts and pieces. Two whole dolls and a half doll, lol. I will covet some of these for my art, but I will be listing and sharing in my vintage Etsy shop, Remember Yesterday. And also on Ebay, so if you need a spare part, come and see me.

ANTIQUE AMBER ALTERED BOTTLE

This is an antique amber colored bottle. It is heavy and beautiful and it even included the glass stopper, although it is glued in place. I did not want to force it. This is another one that tugs at my heart strings… it tells the story of this couple’s wedding day. I added the words “two little words spoken, and two becomes one”. I used a strand of old pearls, vintage pieces of old jewelry and some gorgeous old linen’s.

REFLECTIONS OF THE PAST

This is a mixed media assemblage called, “reflections of the past”. This is an antique silver hand mirror. It is very heavy and very ornate. This one tugs at my heart strings… This mirror is missing the glass, so I had to create something out of this beautiful piece. I used an old doily as the base and then applied this tin type from the 1800’s. It is of a lovely lady in her finest dress. I used a strand of old pearls, many vintage pieces of old jewelry including this fabulous old watch case. There is a bit of black beaded trim, that I use sparingly as I only have small pieces left. This assemblage tells a story of the past…

MIXED MEDIA MONDAY CHALLENGE

Ok, I am late to the party for sure....the theme for MMM for this week is metals and/or metallics. And I am using this as my entry this week. I am also late, in using the image of Marie Antoinette in art...I know, I know...but I made an item and it flew from my shop....so more I will make.

This is one of my altered tin assemblages. This is a mint tin, it measures 2 1/4 by 3 4 by 3/4 an inch. This piece was aged to perfection to give it an old look. I used some vintage wallpaper in this assemblage, along with some printed images. Outside the tin is a chandelier a piece from a vintage hankie and some ribbon flowers. Inside the Eifel tower adorned with some bits of lace and linens and a few vintage jewelry findings. The other side is all about Marie. I have a piece of linen, some lace and a gorgeous earring for some sparkle.

Tin assemblages are one of my favorite things to create; you can go in so many directions...

I want to congratulate my niece Megan and her new hubby Jason, who were married on July 24th this year. They had a small reception to celebrate today and here are a few photos to share with my friends. All our family (except Steve's brother) lives in Pa. So we did not to get to see them...that’s why photos and phone calls mean so much to me. I hurts to be away but I think of each of them daily and they are always in my heart. We wish you both many years of happiness...OMG the cake looks so divine... Little Miss Sugar Buster...would have loved a piece of that. Love you both...

Well, one day late, but that’s ok....I am posting my challenge for the Melange Team this week, I had to do it this week, one of my favorite themes, Witches, this time it is Wee Witches! So here is my entry. I used a half of an Altoid tin and some vintage jewelry, Collaged the inside with this sweet old photograph, yes I made the tiny tot a witch... I was on Face Book yesterday and saw a link posted by Nancy Maxwell, showing a blog post from Jan of the Polka Dot Barn. As artists in this community, we do tend to get together when someone is in need. I do not know Tina Wright but she is having a very tough time, dealing with an illness. I know what my friends mean to me and I know that this is a fabulous idea.
