Oasis New Album Already Written And Demoed

Noel Gallagher says Oasis aren't hanging about when it comes to their next album, as the songs have already been written and demoed.

Although the group only released current album 'Dig Out Your Soul' in October, plans are already underway to complete its follow-up.

"It's already done. It's already written. It's already demoed." Gallagher tells Detroit News. But fans may to wait a while longer to hear the record, as Noel is still considering releasing his first solo album.

"I'm gonna take a bit of time off after this [current tour]. I think I might do something for myself, maybe."

Stone Roses line up comeback

The Stone Roses are set to reform.

The legendary British rock group – consisting of frontman Ian Brown, bassist Gary 'Mani’ Mounfield, guitarist John Squires and drummer Alan 'Reni’ Wren - are in talks to make a comeback next year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut album.

Mani is particularly keen to get the band back together, and has been trying to get the rest of the group to convince Ian – who has always blamed John for the break-up of the band - it is a good idea.

Mani, who is currently the bass player for Primal Scream, told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: 'Me, John and Reni are up for doing it and Ian just needs some working on.

Next year is the 20th anniversary of the first album. It’s the ideal time to do it. It’s something I would love to do before we are all fat and bald. Start the campaign.'

John quit the group in 1996, shortly before the rest of The Stone Roses decided to part ways, following a disastrous performance at that year’s Reading music festival. He and Ian have not spoken to each other since.

Ian has reportedly always felt it should be John who made the first steps towards reconciliation, with the guitarist stubbornly refusing to make the initial move.

However, John is now keen to reunite for a comeback tour, while Mani has been trying to persuade Ian.

He revealed: 'I’ve been seeing Ian at Manchester United soccer matches when he’s there with his kids.'

The Smiths are set to reunite.

The British band, who were huge in the 80s, have fuelled rumours of a possible tour after frontman Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr – who is now a member of UK rockers The Cribs – ended their bitter feud dating back to Marr’s departure in 1987.

A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: 'The very fact they are talking again is the most hopeful thing in years. The industry has been buoyant with talk of them getting back together.

'A lot of people think of them as the best thing since The Beatles. They’d fill stadiums many times over.'

The pair recently teamed up to put together compilation album 'The Sound Of The Smiths' - which was named by singer Morrissey and digitally updated by the guitarist - featuring a mixture of singles and rarities.

It was recently rumoured the band – which also included bassist Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce – would play next year’s Coachella music festival in California.

Morrissey - who has enjoyed a successful solo career - has always been adamant he would never reunite the group, recently saying: "I'd rather eat my own testicles than reform The Smiths - and that's saying something coming from a vegetarian."

The Smiths had nine top 20 singles after forming in 1982.

Kaiser Chiefs: 'We'd support Blur if they asked us'

Kaiser Chiefs have thrown their hat into the ring if Blur are looking for support bands for their Hyde Park reformation show on July 3.

Bassist Simon Rix admitted that his first thought upon hearing that Blur had reunited was that his band would be asked to open for their heroes.

He said: "I was in my car and heard it. And I thought, 'We're going to get asked to play that gig - will we do it?'"

Drummer Nick Hodgson, however, was in no doubt they would support his heroes if asked, though explained he is less sure they will get offered the gig.

"I'd like to do it," he declared. "I don't think we'll get asked."

Hodgson heaped praise on Blur for getting back together, telling BBC Newsbeat: "It's brilliant. I'm very pleased - normally I hate reunions. This doesn't feel like a reunion."

The drummer continued: "I like this because it actually feels like unfinished business and they've actually got something to do it for. They've actually reunited as opposed to got back together for a load of cash. I think The Stone Roses could do the same thing."

Blur talk on forthcoming reunion

Blur say watching old clips of their shows convinced them to get back together.

The band, who announced yesterday (09.12.08) they will perform in London's Hyde Park next year, credit video sharing website YouTube for sparking the reunion.

Guitarist Graham Coxon said: "What happened was that I encountered that magic of Blur performances again through sites like YouTube."

Frontman Damon Albarn added: "I went online and watched a load of our old stuff just to remind myself what we were like. It just felt it was right again."

The band haven't recorded together since 2002 - when Graham Coxon quit the group before the recording of their 'Think Tank' album - and have all pursued different career paths.

Graham went on to a solo career, while Damon formed groups Gorillaz and The Good the Bad and the Queen and also wrote the opera 'Monkey: Journey to the West'.

Bassist Alex James gave up music to become a cheese farmer and drummer Dave Rowntree has been studying to become a lawyer to aid his burgeoning political career.

Alex said: "It was like putting the A-Team back together for one last job. We had to bust Rowntree out of law school.

"I was beginning to think that it might never happen again and then all of a sudden bang, go, go, go and it's very exciting."

Blur will play London's Hyde Park on July 3 and are expected to headline one night of the Glastonbury music festival in the UK next summer.

Blur have become the latest legendary band to announce they are reforming.

The act announced today that the original line up will perform together at London’s Hyde Park on July 3.

The four-piece have not played live since 2000 when guitarist Graham Coxon left the group after a series of arguments with lead singer and childhood friend Damon Albarn.

Blur carried on as a three piece, releasing the album Think Tank in 2003. But the momentum seemed to quickly drain from the band with all three members admitting they didn’t feel the same without Coxon’s presence.

However, rumours have been persistent that the band would reform if Albarn and Coxon, who met as school children in Colchester, could patch up their differences.

Coxon said: "There were several things I missed about being Blur’s guitarist.

"They’re probably really boring to everyone else but they were things I loved about the show, about playing with Dave and Alex."

The announcement today from concert promoters Live Nation does not announce any dates other than the Hyde Park show.

Lead singer Damon Albarn said they want to show people now what they meant back then.

Noel says Liam is the lucky one

Noel Gallagher claims his brother Liam 'always lands on his feet' while he 'always lands on his a**e'.

The Oasis guitarist - who broke three ribs after being pushed over by a fan on stage in September - says his brother is the lucky one, while he bears the brunt of the band’s bad fortune.

Speaking about the incident, Noel said: "I'm not jealous of Liam, but I can't understand why someone would get on stage and attack me and not him.

"If ever there's a bottle thrown on stage, it always manages to miss him and hit me in the back of the head. My point is he always lands on his feet. I always land on my a**e. I've always had to work for everything I've got, and he's always just in the slipstream."

The 41-year-old musician also admits he prefers the security of being in a band and says it helped him stay grounded.

Noel added to Britain’s The Guardian newspaper: "It is solo artists who go mad - Robbie Williams, George Michael - they go mental because it is all about them, but it's not all about me."

Oasis are currently touring North America and will play dates in Europe early next year.

2009 will see the live return of Coventry’s finest, The Specials.

One of the most important bands in the history of popular music and recognised as one of the greatest live bands the world has ever seen have been the subject of continuous rumours and demands for their reformation since their split in 1981.

It would be impossible to overstate the importance of The Specials to the UK music scene. Despite a brief career, the Coventry band lit up the late 70’s like a comet, their melding of punk and ska creating the 2-tone sound that is still today held up as an influence by bands across the world. Now, thirty years since the release of their debut single, 'Gangsters’, The Specials will take to the road for a UK tour starting in April.

Over two studio albums, The Specials scored eight top ten singles, including two number ones for the 'Too Much Too Young’ live EP and the era defining 'Ghost Town’, two Top 5 albums and spawned a retrospective list of compilation and live albums from official releases to much sought after bootlegs. The band were rightly regarded as the starting point of the ska scene that swept the UK through 1978 and, in many ways, were emblematic of their times, their songs dealing with the confusion of a country in industrial decline whilst struggling to come to terms with multi-culturalism and a new creed which became known as Thatcherism. Their re-emergence into a Britain teetering on the edge of recession and still plagued by the same divisions and problems that they so memorably highlighted in 'Ghost Town’ could not seem more apt, the songs from 'The Specials’ and 'More Specials’ seeming as relevant today as they did 30 years ago.

Pigeon Detectives pull dates after chest infection

The Pigeon Detectives would like to apologise to their fans for the late cancellation of two shows on their current UK tour.

Singer Matt Bowman has been struck down with a chest infection and despite medical treatment at the venue, they were unfortunately forced to cancel last nights second Glasgow Barrowlands show.

Tonight’s sold out performance at Rock City in Nottingham has been re-scheduled to Tuesday 16th December.

The band have been touring non stop throughout 2007 and 2008 playing shows in America, Japan and Europe which followed the summer festivals. This current tour rounds up another successful year for the band who have now sold over a half a million records in the UK.

The new Glasgow date is still to be decided, but tickets for the original shows will be valid for the new dates, or refunds can be obtained at the point of purchase.

Blow Monkeys play first fan driven gig

Owngig.com brings people together to bid for bespoke private gigs. Wapping was the unlikely location for this new era with 80s favourite The Blow Monkeys playing local venue, The Prospect of Whitby.

The site, which launched less than six months ago has already seen buzz from fans of bands from Tom Waits to The Jonas Brothers. Owngig.com tracks the building interest, identifying those who have attracted enough bids to plan a unique event. Launched less than six months ago, the site has already seen significant grassroots interest and other gigs are already in the planning.

Sir Paul McCartney has denied writing a song about ex-wife Heather Mills.

'Nothing Too Much, Just Out Of Sight’ on his new album 'Electric Arguments’ with side project The Fireman, was widely believed to be about the former model – who Paul divorced earlier this year.

Lyrics in the track include: "I remember you well/ Oh woman betrayed you/ I couldn't resist you/ When I made you." However, Paul insists people are reading too much into the song, which is actually a sister track to his former band The Beatles’ popular song 'Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da’.

He explained: 'I didn’t have anyone in mind. There was an African guy called Jimmy Scott who I used to meet in nightclubs in London during the 60s.

'He was the guy who said to me, 'Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, life goes on’ and the other thing he used to say was, 'Nothing too much man, just out of sight.’

'I always thought that it was a great thing to say, so it was really Jimmy. I just flew off that line and shouted out things around it.'

Paul also claims his new album proves he is just as experimental as his late songwriting partner John Lennon. The 66-year-old musician added to Britain’s Daily Star newspaper: 'John and I grew up together and I think we were both as experimental as each other but perception-wise he was the more experimental one.

'I’d been doing it as a hobby but with John it was the 'main event’. That was John’s courage. 'The whole point of The Fireman is that’s it’s a very free approach.' 'Electric Arguments’ is out now.

Beatles Next In Guitar Hero Game

Paul McCartney seems to be in harmony with the idea of The Beatles being featured in a video game. For the first time ever, the rock band’s music will be featured in a game that is expected to hit the market in time for next year’s holiday season.

The project is being done in connection with MTV Games and Harmonix, the people who make the “Rock Band” series. The game won’t get the “Rock Band ” title. But it will work with the current instruments that are used with the popular title.

The game developers say the Beatles title will also feature a keyboard, which would be a first for the play-along with music genre. McCartney says the concept of a Beatles-themed video game “is a fun idea which broadens the appeal of The Beatles and their music.”
