Tired of seeing the same old tired faces? Want to bolster your attendance? Looking at doing joint programming with other organizations?
You'll find new faces and some intriguing answers at the NOCA Programming Summit: How to Improve the Attendance at Your Meetings.
The event is open to anyone. We encourage organization presidents, programming chairs, and/or membership chairs to attend. Continental breakfast will be served.
The Programming Summit will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 from 8:15-9:15 a.m. at HKM Direct Market Communications, 5501 Cass Avenue in Cleveland. Click here for directions. To RSVP, call 216.651.9500.

NOCA Government Watch
From COSE: Card Check Legislation Introduced in Congress
The Employee Free Choice Act (Card Check) has been introduced in Congress. This legislation represents the most sweeping change in labor law in over 70 years. If passed, Card Check would eliminate an employee's right to vote for or against a union in private. In addition, Card Check would impose harsh financial penalties on employers, require mandatory arbitration and two-year contract terms.
The impact this legislation would have on the small business community is devastating. In unsteady economic times, when small businesses are struggling to survive, the last thing employers need is legislation that will make doing business more difficult.
Small businesses can contribute to the fight against Card Check by voicing their opposition to their U.S. legislators. COSE urges all members to take action against this legislation by participating in both the letter writing campaign and by signing a petition in opposition of Card Check.
Go here to sign the petition against Card Check.
Go here to send a letter to you Congressman voicing your opposition to Card Check.

Take a Bite Out of Hunger
NOCA is assembling a Marketing Communications Hunger Walk team to participate in the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland's Walk for Hunger. The walk is scheduled for Saturday, May 9 starting at 9:45 a.m. from Burke Lakefront Airport. NOCA has set a goal of raising $1,000 from our industry.
Walkers will do something positive for our community, have an enjoyable day and maybe, just maybe, get some free stuff!
Click here to join the NOCA team. Chicago-based former Rep and Photography Marketing Consultant Carolyn Potts presents this evening seminar.

You’ve learned your digital imaging craft and tried to keep an optimistic attitude while royalty-free, micro-stock, and the world economy has eroded the size of the photo assignment pie. But what if you’re not getting the work you want? What else are you missing?

Making the transition to an all-digital workflow is just one piece of today’s photo business. Knowing how marketing has dramatically changed is the other key component to survival.

You’ve probably got a web site and started to experiment with sending email blasts. But what else should you be doing to reach your target prospects?

Without understanding the fundamental — and sometimes subtle — differences between marketing in the 20th century and marketing in the 21st, you can unknowingly sabotage your career.

Are you wondering…

What’s the best way to reach art buyers in the digital age?
What email skills must you know to not look like a loser?
What are the current best practices when it comes to online promotion?
Is print promotion dead, dying, or reviving?
And most importantly:

How do you differentiate yourself from the rising tide of part-time photographers armed with high-res point-and-shoot cameras?
When:
Thursday, March 19, 2009
7:00 PM
Social time starts at 6:00 PM

Where:
Foto/Life Studios, 9709 Jos. She has helped her photographers get clients, close deals, anticipate trends, revitalize their careers & increase the bottom line.

Come to this event and get the latest info you need to stay in the game with your online promotional strategies.

If you are wondering if your own portfolio and online presentation are out of date in today’s radically changed market, you can get a personalized analysis and recommendations as part of this event.

Carolyn will be available for a very limited number of private consultations when she’s in town for this event.
