World record performance in Washington DC

Between September 5th and September 15th the first Qatar National Schools Debating Team competed at the World Schools Debating Championships in Washington D.C. For the last 20 years WSDC has been the highest level of debating competition at high school. This year's competition involved 39 countries from around the world. Team Qatar finished 19th, ahead of established debating nations including Germany, Japan and the USA. Their 4 wins in the preliminary stages of the competition was a new record for a team making its debut. Congratulations to all the members of the Team Qatar 2008 for their fantastic achievement... Team Qatar at the World Schools' Debating Championships 2008 in Washington DC

The team will compete in 8 preliminary rounds against national teams from around the world for a place in the 'knock-out' stages of the competition.
