Van Broken into and tools/equipment stolen

This blog is in response the level of crime we are experiencing to our company vehicles.

It is totally amazing how people have a lack of respect for the hard work of others.

Last night we experienced our latest theft with one of our vans broken into on the engineers driveway. Expensive test equipment and tools were stolen along with the damage to the vehicle in gaining access.

It is obvious the people carrying out these crimes pay no regard for the hard working people who's lives they disrupt and cause distress to.

We take extensive measures in securing our vehicles but this seems to be of little use.

It left us with a day ringing insurance, police, repair centres and equipment sales. This is a minor inconvenience to our office staff, more concerning is the horrible feeling for the engineer and his family that someone could do such a thing on their property.

If anyone considers buying equipment 2nd hand please make sure it is genuine as the chances are it has come from a situation similar to this one.

For us its business as usual, just with higher insurance premiums and greater worries. I hope the people carrying out this kind of thing
have trouble sleeping at night.

For all tradesman out there, try to keep your things safe as less credible un-honourable cowards will take it from you without a 2nd thought.

PAT Testing is a vital tool in providing an effective route to electrical equipment maintenance and safety.

The safety of staff, members of the public and reduced risks associated to fire are obvious benefits of making sure electrical equipment is safe for use.

Insurance companies are now in some cases requesting PAT Testing is carried out to keep policy's valid and in place.

The number of accidents in the UK due to electrical faults on appliances is quite staggering. It really does happen and in most cases such accidents can be avoided by undertaking a regular PAT Testing program.

After undertaking such a large PAT Testing contract Power Sonic Ltd has further demonstrated our flexibility to customer requirement's and ability to get the job done.

The reporting on this project involved a lot of man hours that often go on unseen behind closed doors. The engineers on the road would be a much weaker team without our excellent office staff to back up their hard work.

As a PAT testing provider we can't stress enough the need for active maintenance of electrical equipment. This helps in many factors, from reducing obvious dangers to users and operators to more cost effective advantages. If faults are discovered sooner they are often easier and cheeper to repair.

Simple user checks should be performed in between PAT testing periods. Just having the PAT testing process repeated annually is not the whole job. Its been a while since our last blog, mainly due to inceased work volumes keeping us busy!

We are in the process of re developing the website and adding a few features to it.

We are offering some PAT testing equipment for hire on the new site and this area will be growing soon so keep a look out.

Welcome back to our PAT testing blog.

Today we wanted to give you an overview of our pat testing history and future credentials.

Power Sonic Ltd were formed in 2006 with the ambition to become one of the UK's largest testing company's.

Whilst we recgonise the intense competition in our market area we believe we deliver a superior service from first customer contact to project completion.

We work with customers who have a handful of items to international firms with many thousands of appliances. Our service is the same for all clients and our friendly approach has been commended on many occasions.

Our engineers don't just hold the basic PAT testing qualifications, they are as a minimum trained to city and guilds 2391 test and inspection. They also have many years of experiance and have been properly trained in the use of the latest test equipment. They are also fully trained in customer relations and site managment. This enables us to deliver a first rate personel service.

We made significant investment in test equipment and software reducing testing times and driving down costs. We also purchased new company branded vans and uniform.

We believe we can continue to grow and pride ourselves on the outstanding contribution we have made so far.

Poratable appliance testing PAT

Welcome back to our pat testing blog. We hope you are finding it useful so far.

As mentioned in yesterdays blog we want to take a look at the frequency of testing issues.

Much confusion seems to reign in this area, we hope to be able to shed some light.

A guidance for the frequency of testing is found in the IET code of portable appliance testing hand book. This is the staring point for most organisations who base there services around this manual.

The end frequency of testing relates to the environment and conditions that the equipment is in use. Each office environment is different and as such a standard time scale for the whole sectors of industry are not really workable.

The IET provide the information to guide engineers in determining frequency of testing. Ultimately the decision rests with the company or person carrying out the testing. For example construction site equipment would be tested at least every 3 months and a small well maintained office may only require testing of IT equipment every 48 months.

Whilst we appreciate costs are important to our customers, we try to promote a testing frequency of 12 months were possible in most standard situations. This enables excellent item safety and provides asset tracking facility's. We want to have as many safe appliances in use as possible. A large office for example with multiple users at each workstation can be heavily used with possible damage to cables and equipment. We think it is better to review these locations much more regularly, at the very least visually inspecting each workstation annually.

There is a lot of information out in the industry regarding this and lots of different suppliers work to different frequency's. That is due to the varying nature of business in the UK. Ultimately you have to be happy with the supplier you choose to work closely on developing effective testing procedures for your company.

The end result of regular testing is safer equipment, if testing in excess of the minimum quoted timescale results in one less injury,fire or death then it is without doubt the correct way to proceed.

Region PAT Testing

It is with great pleasure that we can report 2008 has begun in a very good manner.

Whilst maintaining excellent standards of service we have welcomed 20 new clients into our testing program.

These new clients are benefiting from the extensive testing service available at the low rates we provide.

We hope to welcome many more new clients in the coming months and look forward to developing our services further.

We are currently reviewing our testing equipment (Seaward primetest 300) and hoping to add to our range in the near future.

Also under consideration is our vehicle fleet, currently the Fiat Doblo 1.3D multi jet van. We are considering a change over to pick up trucks but appreciate this may impact our foot print on the environment. We will consider this when making our final choice as we are keen to keep all emissions to a minimum.

Portable appliance testing legislation, pat testing

It has been mentioned by numerous customers regarding the lack of information about the legal requirements for pat testing.

We hope to be able to shed light on the situation via our blog.

Also the issue of frequency of testing seems to be an issue which we will address in future blogs. The IET issue guidelines for this but usually the decision rests with the engineers who assess the environment with which the equipment is in use. It should also be noted the IET suggests maximum time periods between tests. We would encourage customers to be more pro active and maintain some form of annual test and inspections.

We are happy to advise on frequency of testing issues before we quote.
