Making Tracks Jacket

We have had some many requests for this jacket that Sarah agreed to teach it again. We have used Laurel Burch cats on this fabrics but you can make it your own. It is built on a sweatshirt and it's a great technique to learn. The first session you will be making your pieced top, class 2, you will be quilting your finish tops onto the sweatshirt fabric. You will learn how to cut a sweatshirt apart to make great jackets. The creativity is limitless. The third session you will put all your pieces back together. There will be homework for this class. Pattern required.

We will be making the short jacket with curves from Lorraine Torrence Designs #1912. Pick 5 of your favorite fabrics and you’re ready to start. You will learn how to use freezer paper for creating the design on your jacket, place that on a personally fitted muslin, add the trims bias trims and binding. 4D Creative Suite - Block of the Month

4D Block of the Month Quilt

Explore all the modules in the 4D Creative Suite, while making this Block of the Month. This is a 12 month series. Each month you will explore elements of the software while working on your block. You will work with the Software in class, and sew out your block of the month at home. Each student will need to bring their laptop to class.

If you have the 3D Creative Suite or would like to learn about what you can do with the 4D Creative Suite, you can still sign up for this class. We have laptops that can be loaned to you in class to learn about the software and explore your creativity. Laptops are limited, so sign up early. You must have a basic knowlege of microsoft windows for this program.

Don't have an embroidery machine? Well we can solve that problem too! Our classroom models can be used to sew out your BOM, during a studio session that will be scheduled later, depending on the interests of the students. This is a perfect time to explore something new and see if embroidery is a new dimension for your quilting.

Bohemian Bouquet Block of the Month

This year, we are offered a new Block of the Month program called "Bohemian Bouquet" by Susan Brubaker Knapp. It is a mystery applique you can do either by needleturn applique, or by fusing and satin stitching.

Summer Sewing Kids Camp

This is our fourth year to offer a Kids Sewing Camp where each student will take home their new Pfaff Hobby 1132 sewing machine. The classes will be taught by Sarah Brandt. She has been teaching our children's classes for the past couple of years.

Each student will learn how to use their machine, including the decorative stitches and cleaning/maintenance. There will be two sessions, (maybe three if there is enough interest), with a maximum of six students in each session. We supply all supplies needed and snacks. Student should pack a lunch.

This year, for the first time, we will be offering a “For Boys Only” Summer Sewing Camp and the projects will be just for them. Boys have a great time in our Kids Sewing Camp. We have had many boys in our camps over the years and they enjoy making things with the sewing machine as much as the girls do.

We recommend early sign-up for classes. Class fees must be paid to ensure a spot in the class. Classes are limited to 6 students each. This ensures that each student will have enough attention to make their sewing experience the best!

We may add addition sessions depending on the interest for our sewing camps. Please let us know if there are any other interests in Summer Sewing. We are considering another Summer Garment Class, and/or a home decor class and we would like to know if there is any interest. We look forward to hearing from you!

Level One Kids Sewing Camp $400 (includes machine & supplies)

Level One is structured for kids ages 8 and older. Quilters Loft reserves the right to evaluate each child for camp. Class fee includes all instructions, sewing machine and supplies. For health reasons, children need to bring scissors that are appropriate for their age, one to cut threads and one for paper. Each student will be responsible for putting their name on everything they bring to class.

Level 1 Sewing Camp Dates:

Tuesday June 24 to Friday June 27 (Girls Only)
10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Tues July 8 to Fri July 11 (Boys Only)
10:30am to 2:30pm

Each day will bring a new project and finishing of previous projects, time permitting:
Day One: Basic sewing machine instructions , Chenille Pillow
Day Two: Journal or notebook cover
Day Three: Pajama bottoms in a homespun fabric of their choice
Day Four: Pillow Buddy (pillowcase) from novelty fabrics (choosing from pre-make kits). This will also be a time to finish their pajamas if they have not completed them.

We reserve the right to change projects for the Level One Kids Camp depending on the skill level of our participants.

Kids Camp for Returning Students: First Time Quilt-making
$250 includes all supplies

Tuesday June 17 to Friday June 20 (Open to Girls and Boys)
10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Our returning students from previous Kids Camp will make a rail fence quilt. Each student will select their own fabrics. This class will teach them how to use a rotary cutter, rulers and other tools to make their quilt. They will learn to sew the blocks, placement and how to quilt and attach binding to their quilt. All supples will be provided in the price of the class, except basic sewing supplies that they already have from previous classes. Students will need to bring their lunch and basic sewing supplies that are not provided in class.

This class is open to students who have already attended our Kids Camps in previous years and are still sewing, and are comfortable with their sewing machine. We may consider students who have not been in our classes, and can pass a sewing test to see if they are ready for this class. Students must be at least 8 years old, have a machine they are familiar with and in excellent working condition. Students will be required to bring their machine with them for their test.

We do suggest that all machines for returning students, have their annual maintenance. Our regular fee for this service is $89, but we will clean our Kids Camp machines for $39. All machines require an annual maintenance by a service tech to keep them in top condition. Please schedule your appointment early so the machines are ready for camp.

New Instructor: Chris Tibbetts

Chris Tibbetts is a trained and experienced teacher (M.Ed., M.A.) who has taught a variety of disciplines to students of many age groups. Currently, she is employed full-time by Mitchell Community College as an English instructor. Out of a desire to share her love of the art of quilting, Chris also teaches quilting on occasion. She has recently relocated to Mooresville from Asheville, where she worked as Chairperson of the English Department for the local community college and also taught classes for several quilting shops on the side. Chris loves to introduce beginners to the joy of color and design, and is very patient with sewing newbies. Her goal for her quilting students is that quilting should be fun and not stressful. She helps her students quiet their “inner critic” to enjoy the process of learning new sewing skills to express their own creativity through the medium of fabric. Chris will be teaching our new class for beginners (no sewing experience), "First Time Quiltmaking".
