Some of you have been asking me how Mina (our neighbor) is,

so I thought I'd let you all know that she's AWESOME.

Especially for a 97 year old person who broke her hip last winter!

Seriously.

Which reminded me that I wanted to share this morsel with you...

One day, whilst sitting on her porch,

Mina asked me if The Hubby had a sense of humor.

To which I responded: Of COURSE he does!

She said: I have something for him....

Then she hobbled up the stairs & came down with this towel:

Don't you just LOVE her?!

Plus, she leaves us notes on everything. Coupons, envelopes, newspapers...

Even toilet paper.

Sorry for the sparse postings lately...

Big deadline, lotsa juggling going on at Chez Faboo.

The Varmints have been so supportive, checking in regularly,

and bringing me snacks & tea on home made trays.

This sadly makes me feel guilty, yet so proud to be their Mama.

The above tray, is actually 2-sided.

Varmint#3, who is 4 yrs old brought it to me this morning.

He said: "Mama, which side do you think has more detail?"

wtf?

Alpha Process

Those of you familiar with my blog,

know that one of my favorite things to shoot

is found letters for my "Alpha Series."

Here's an excruciating peek into how it all goes down...

I find something that has some "letter potential..."

and I sit very still, waiting for the letter to appear.

In this case, we were at the park with the varmints.

They could have been screaming & whining all around me,

but I would be oblivious, as I watch my message come through...

The Hubby usually takes over the varmint watch.

He has endless patience, and just let's me do my thing.

Most of the time.

When the "Cap L" appears, I get all excited...

then I think... what will he do next?

Is that a "7"?

If I flop it, it is.

Or should I wait to see if it makes a "C" or an "O"?

I'll just sit here & keep shooting.

July 4th Weekend '09

We packed up our varmints & took them

to the Berkshires for the long holiday weekend...

The trip up was rainy,

but the closer we got, the more things cleared up.

We stayed in a beautiful house by a lake.

The walls had eyes.

baby seal eyes.

Demon chihuahua eyes.

There was a traditional July 4th BBQ....

with the usual ratio of hot dog to dessert.

Lots of trees and flowers,

but this one was my fave.

Plenty of these....

and a bunch of really cool art at the Berkshire Arts Festival:

[ she was art, even if she didn't know it. ]

I LOVE these prints, but had a hard time shooting them in the sun.

Also fell hard for this resin coated coffee table,

by artist Lara Moore at Bella Bella.

but the booth I remember the most had these:

Antique tin people, made by Marcia & Bill Finks.

The littlest varmint, has been inspired lately

to make dogs out of fruits & veggies.

The inspiration came from this book,

which was a gift from a dear friend.

I have to admit, it was fun.

And a welcome break from doing data charts for an 80 page catalog. :-)

Nightmare

As the first round came down, it exploded like a bomb on the beach.

Being so close to the explosion, we were propelled into the darkness.

Me & Dad, circa 1981?

1) To cap bottles left & right-handed.

2) Never let go of your beer, even when the boat capsizes.

3) That breakfast is the most important meal of the day,

and if you don't wake-up in time to eat your french toast,

it's ok to wrap it in a napkin & eat it at the bus stop.

4) That the secret to making good french toast is

poking holes in the bread so the egg soaks in.

5) Save plastic bags & plastic containers.

6) In Manhattan, the street numbers going up means you're going uptown.

7) He taught me that it's important to take time out of your busy weekend to go to Brooklyn & visit Grandma.

(and didn't it make her so happy when we did?)

7-A) How to wrap a gift perfectly using only 3 pieces of tape.

8) The smartest punishment for a very varmental girl is NOT to tell her she's grounded,

it's to take her DOOR off the hinges.

(what's more important to a teenage girl?! and didn't that door go RIGHT back

on it's hinges when bro brought a guy-friend home for thanksgiving?!)

9) And finally, the only piece of advice he ever gave my Hubby, which was at our engagement party:

"Get your HAND off my daughter's ASS."

Logo Workshop 101

Would anyone be interested in doing a "Make Your Own Logo" Workshop?

It would be right here on my blog.

Free.

I've been toying with this idea for awhile...

I'm sure there are alot of people out there

who have just enough creative juice to come up with

a great idea for their own logo, but don't know the rules or "logostics".

Through my blog, I would display, advise, & critique your logo ideas,

until you are left with a final logo that you can present to the world.

If anyone is interested, please email me at: faboographics[at]gmail.com,

with the name of the company you would like to design a logo for, and

some background info on the company.

You would need to have some sort of graphics program, or even MS Word,

in order to save your work for it to be seen & discussed.

Faboo Banana Fritters

This recipe starts with a few brown bananas.

Add 1 small varmint.

Peel & slice the 'nanas.

Ask the varmint to sprinkle on some cinnamon...

They seem to like doing this.

Then some nutmeg...

[ At art school, I heard that nutmeg makes you hallucinate. Is that true? ]

Do some mashing.

Add some whole wheat flour.

[ 1.5 TBS per banana ]

Keep mashing.

Stop when it feels like cookie batter,

and it looks like this:

Spoon some dollops in a hot-oiled frying pan.

[ remove varmint before frying.]

Sizzle until brown on both sides.

Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar, & serve.

It's hard to tell what it is, until you pick it up in your hand & hold it...

It's ice-cold to the touch, and much heavier than it looks.

It's a solid graphite writing instrument,

from Agelio Batle.

It's beautiful,

and I am never letting it go.

Look at this loveliness, from my friend Norm's blog.

I think I met him in 1989. Or 1990.

We lived in the same apartment building on Horatio Street,

in a neighborhood now made famous by "Sex & the City."

Except when we lived there, you were more likely to see

a transvestite hooker on our corner at 9am, than a Samantha Jones.

Or in the same frame: a tranvestite hooker

side-by-side with a meat-packing guy in a bloody apron.

The first time I saw Norm, he was blowing bubbles

in the middle of the street, with a giant bubble wand.

Those were the days!

Though we've fallen in & out of touch over the years,

I've never stopped appreciating his artwork.
