Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar followed through on his promise and filed an appeal to the Lahore High Court in an effort to have his 18-month ban overturned.

The Pakistan Cricket Board originally imposed a five-year suspension on him because of disciplinary reasons in April. That was challenged and presided over by a three-man PCB tribunal, when it became an 18 month ban and a 7 million rupee fine.

The ban was lifted for a month so he could play briefly in the Indian Premier League in May, before the conclusion of that tribunal.

Gavaskar, who is often credited for giving his suggestions during the World Cup campaign to Kapil Dev, set the record straight by saying, "It is natural for any senior cricketer to advise the captain but it was to the credit of Kapil that he chose the best from the suggestions made by the senior players.

"After we started by beating the West Indies, it was Kapil's knock (of 175 not out) against Zimbabwe that set the tone. For me, it remains the greatest innings that I have ever seen," he added.
