30 c – Tolaga Bay

Located on the North Island’s east coast, Tolaga Bay is well known for its wharf – the longest in New Zealand, at 660 metres. The wharf was built in 1929 to accommodate large coastal trading vessels, but it fell into disuse as improved roads and motor vehicles offered more efficient transport options.

The historic township of Russell (once known as Kororareka) was New Zealand’s first permanent European settlement and sea port. It was also the country’s first capital, but today it’s a Bay of Islands holiday town, with an abundance of shops, restaurants and bars.

While writing about these nice stamps how can I forget my loving pet Snowy...Here is his photo .....He makes our home always lively...and never forgets to greet visitors, coming my home, so lovingly.....Studies show that the presence and holding of furry animals reduce anxiety, blood pressure and increased heart rate. Raising pets contributes to reducing the risk of recurring heart attacks and to better recovery. People who raise pets report a lower rate of headaches, allergy attacks, backaches, flu and concentration difficulties. Say Cheese …..

Hi ! In today's Post, some of the cutest marsupials and their young on beautiful stamps and Max Cards issued by Australia on 1st July 2009. The set of four stamps feature four marsupials Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus), Eastern Grey Kangaroo (Macropus giganteus), Brushtail Possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) and Common Wombat (Vombatus ursinus). The stamps featuring these cute creatures are fabulous that anyone would like to have them in his/her collection. The Max Cards are just fantastic showing the marsupials babies in their cutest pose...so lovely....I just can’t explain the beauty of these magnificent Max Cards.....so is the sheet of gutter strips.....I just can say these issues awesome and no other pose of these cute animals can be prettier than those featured on these nice stamps...This is all for today ...Till Next Post...Have A Great Time...!

The Eastern Grey Kangaroo (Macropus giganteus) is a large kangaroo (males can weigh up to 70 kilograms) second in size only to the Red Kangaroo and is the only kangaroo species found in Tasmania.

The Brushtail Possum (Trichosurus vulpecular) is familiar to many urban dwelling people as it has successfully adapted to life in highly populated areas. Its natural habitat extends over much of Australia, from rainforests to dry eucalypt woodlands.

One of Australia's iconic animals, the Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) is found in the eastern Australian states excluding Tasmania. Koalas spend most of their life in eucalypt trees which also provide the species' entire diet.

ike the Koala the Common Wombat (Vombatus ursinus) has a backward-opening pouch. It is found in south-eastern Australia, including Tasmania. Its habitat is varied, ranging from coastal forest to alpine woodland and grassland. Wombats build burrows, leaving a mound of excavated earth outside the entrance. Gestation lasts a month.

STAMPMANIA 2009 - the First National One Frame Philatelic Exhibition to be held at Vadodara.

Dear Fellow Philatelists,

Once again it gives me a great pleasure to update you about STAMPMANIA 2009 - the First National One Frame Philatelic Exhibition to be held at Vadodara.
We have found great enthusiasm in philatelists across the country. Till date we have received entries with variety of theme and subjects in each Class.
List of titles of entries can be viewed at our website www.stampmania2009.com
Last date for submission of Entry Forms has been extended to 15.08.2009.
As announced earlier the Exhibition dates are 18th to 20th December 2009 but we have decided to have an exclusive event on 17th December 2009.

On 17th December 2009 we have decided to organize a ‘Heritage Walk through Stamps’ in Vadodara City. The Heritage Walk will conclude at the Venue of the Exhibition in the evening and the Exhibition will be inaugurated in the evening. More details about timings will be sent later.

School Children will join this This ‘Heritage Walk through Stamps’ holding blow ups and replica of Stamps depicting heritage our country.

Those who are visiting STAMPMANIA 2009 are requested to plan their schedule in such a way that they can join us in this exclusive event of ‘Heritage Walk through Stamps’. Don’t miss this opportunity.

Printed Prospectus and Entry form are now available at Stampmania 2009. The same are being sent at all Philatelic Bureau and philatelic organizations. Anyone who wishes to get printed prospectus and entry form may send their mailing address to us.

For Cricket Lovers .....
At Lord's cricket ground on 30th June a special set of stamps commemorating the 2009 Ashes series was released. Britain's secret little post office at Bletchley Park has got together with the Isle of Man Post Office and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) to celebrate an Ashes Summer. The result is a presentation pack and first day cover for three unique stamps. One features W G Grace playing at Lord's, another shows the Ashes urn with the crystal trophy and the third a Karen Neale painting of the 2005 series. The stamps are featured against a backdrop of a match at Lord's.

England has not beaten Australia at Lord's since 1934, so this time perhaps?Either way cricket fans can give the "Ashes " a good licking with a newstamp issue on sale at Lord's from the 16th July. A strange combination ofthe MCC, the Isle of Man and a secret little post office has produced a setof postage stamps commemorating cricket's best-known clash.Bletchley Park is best known for its wartime links with the enigma codebreakers. But the tiny post office that was once an undercover mailroom hasbeen issuing stamps and first day covers for the MCC since 2004. On bigmatch days at Lord's fans queue up to get these limited edition littlepieces of cricket art and history.For 2009 they have teamed up with the Isle of Man Post Office to issue a setof stamps featuring the work of cricket artists Christina Pierce and KarenNeale.

Indian cricket legend honoured by University
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is to award an Honorary Fellowship to former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly for hiscontribution to the world of cricket. The ceremony will take place at Preston Guildhall on Wednesday, 15 July at 3.00pm.It is the first honorary award to be accepted by Ganguly from any UKuniversity. Commenting on the fellowship, Dr John Minten, Head of the Schoolof Sport, Tourism and The Outdoors said Sourav's distinguished international career and his reputation for having played cricket with such commitment and tenacity would be of great inspiration to U CLan students. "Our students and staff take great pride in their association with honorary fellows and we're delighted that Sourav has accepted our Honorary Fellowship."Acknowledged as India's most successful cricket captain, having led the sidein 49 test matches that included 21 test wins, Sourav will accept his award in front of a packed audience of 2000 graduates and parents.Dr Minten continued: "The award also reflects our excellent reputation forsport-related courses and research, which includes new, cricket-related programmes, and a growing collaboration with partner educational institutions in India."The Honorary Fellowship also coincides with the ICC Centenary Conference that U CLan is co-sponsoring with the University of Oxford.To commemorate the award Chapman and Mitchell Covers have commissioned a special portrait and will be issuing a limited edition stamp and first day cover. Hi ! For today's post I have selected two great personalities who were born on 9th July and 10th July and have been commemorated on postage stamps. These are famous actor & Film Maker of Indian Cinema Guru Datta and great inventor Nikola Telsa...The post is a philatelic tribute to these great persons who have carved a name in their specific fields...Guru Datta is known for special light and sound effects in his films. I want to mention here that 9th July is also the birth anniversary of one more famous artist of Hindi Cinema Late Sanjeev Kumar and today is also the birthday of famous Indian Cricketer Sunil Gavaskar ....He turns 60 today....Having lot of records to his credit......A very Happy Birthday to Great Cricketer !! Guru Datta - Great actor & Film Maker of Indian Cinema - Birth Anniversary -9th July

Guru Dutt or Vasanth Kumar Shivashankar Padukone (July 9, 1925 - October 10, 1964) was an Indian film director, producer and actor. He is often credited with ushering in the golden era of Hindi cinema. He made quintessential 1950s and 1960s classics such as Pyaasa (Thirst), Kaagaz Ke Phool (Paper Flowers), Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (The Gentleman, the Wife and the Servant) and Chaudhvin Ka Chand (The Fourteenth Day Moon). In particular, Pyaasa and Kaagaz Ke Phool are now included among the greatest films of all time, both by Time magazine's "All-TIME" 100 best movies and by the Sight & Sound critics' and directors' poll, where Dutt himself is included among the greatest film directors of all time. He is sometimes referred to as "India's Orson Welles".

He is most famous for making brilliant lyrical and artistic films within the context of popular Hindi cinema of the 1950s, and expanding its commercial conventions, starting with his 1957 masterpiece, Pyaasa. Several of his later works have a cult following. His movies go full house when re-released; especially in Germany, France and Japan .The latest book on him is Ten Years with Guru Dutt: Abrar Alvi's Journey by Sathya Saran based on the recollections of his chief scriptwriter and friend.

Nikola Tesla - Great Inventor - Birth Anniversary - 10 th July

Nikola Tesla (10 July 1856 – 7 January 1943) was an inventor and a mechanical and electrical engineer. Tesla was an ethnic Serb born in the village of Smiljan, Vojna Krajina, in the territory of today's Croatia. He was a subject of the Austrian Empire by birth and later became an American citizen. Tesla is often described as an important scientist and inventor of the modern age, a man who "shed light over the face of Earth". He is best known for many revolutionary contributions in the field of electricity and magnetism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Tesla's patents and theoretical work formed the basis of modern alternating current electric power (AC) systems, including the polyphase power distribution systems and the AC motor, with which he helped usher in the Second Industrial Revolution.

Roger Federer becomes Wimbeldon Champion 2009 !!

Roger Federer cemented his reputation as one of the all-time tennis greats with his sixth Wimbledon title and 15th Grand Slam victory in a marathon men's final match on July 5. A special one-franc stamp celebrating the extraordinary career of Swiss tennis star Roger Federer has been issued by the Swiss Post. The world number one, who is widely accepted as the greatest player of his generation, is one the very few living persons to receive the honour. The one-off stamp, bearing a photo of Federer holding the Wimbledon winner's trophy, was officially issued in Basel on 10 April 2007.

World number one Roger Federer became the first living Swiss person to have his picture enshrined on a postage stamp.

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) , referred to as the "King of Pop" dies today of Cardiac arrest. His 1982 Thriller is the world's best-selling record of all timeand four other solo studio albums are also among the world's best-selling records: Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and HIStory (1995). One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records—including one for "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time"—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career—more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era and the sale of 750 million records worldwide. Jackson's highly publicized personal life, coupled with his successful career, made him a part of popular culture for almost four decades. Jackson died on June 25, 2009, aged 50. Jackson donated and raised millions of dollars for beneficial causes through his foundation, charity singles and support of 39 charities. Hi ! I have recently come across 3 wonderful stamps which are going to be issued by Israel on 30th June under the series 'Quality of the Environment". Global warming is the biggest environmental problem these days.I liked the design of the stamp, shown above very much and the designer of this stamp needs lot of appreciation to choose this particular design. The Earth is depicted as melting in a frying pan against a red background, in contrast to the tab featuring the international graphic symbols for alternative energy, ecology and the environment portrayed against a clean environment background. It's a beautiful stamp depicting the present status of the earth symbolically in its design.. Other 2 stamps issued on the quality of environment are equally eye catching, featuring Geothermal Energy and Solar Energy. Here are the designs of these nice stamps which I hope will be hot favourite of those collecting on Environment and Climate Change. While talking about on Global warming I must mention here that the hill stations have become very hot these days...Yesterday the temperature of Shimla was 30 C and in Kullu the mercury is rising to 38 C .....You will be surprised to know as the records reveal that about 90 years back Shimla, the queen of hills had snowfall in the month of June...& Today we need fans in Shimla in the months of May & June...The tourists are not happy at all as they dont get here the typical cool weather of hills. The infolw of tourists to Himachal Pradesh has considerably increased becaues of scorching heat in the plains...but the weather is not satisfactory for them.....But they are enjoying snow at Rohtang Pass and doing River Rafting in cold water of Beas River, Kullu. just to beat the heat..This is just about the area where I live. Kullu - Manali...the globally known tourist destination......As the Post of Today is related with the Earth and its Environment....I also show here two photographs of Earth Day celebration on 22 April at New Delhi, sent by our distinguished member Ms N.Kalyani with the news of Earth Day Celebration...This is all for the Day....Till Next Post...Have a Green... Earth Day Celebration....

This year on Earth Day, April 22, a philatelic exhibition on endangered mammals of the world and the giant panda was opened at WWF-India’s Secretariat in Delhi at its Pirojsha Godrej auditorium. The maximaphily collection of Delhi based philatelist Mr Sundar Lal Bansal had some hundred and twenty maximum cards on display with each of the special picture cards accompanied by corresponding stamps and pictorial postal cancellations. The exhibition was inaugurated by WWF’s Secretary-General and CEO Mr Ravi Singh. After a talk by Mr Singh, Mr Bansal, formerly a Distinguished Scientist with the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation), gave a brief talk on his collection and how he began his tryst with the hobby after his retirement from active service. The well-known philatelist has, through his philatelic collection, been espousing the cause of protection and conservation of threatened wildlife species.

The venue is the Cultural Center. For the event, a pretty special postmark was issued on kingfisher-BIRD of 2009.

Philatelic Gems from Poland...

Hi ! Today's Post is going to feature the philatelic gems of Poland...The stamps from this beautiful country have always fascinated me so much that they have become the part of my everyday life....The designs of these stamps are always in my mind and I feel great love for them...Thanks to my Blogger friend Andrzej who has helped me to make my collection of Polish Stamps just wonderful.....Here is the softest stamp ever issued by any postal adminisration in the world....It is the Silk stamp by Polska Post....One can wonder how a postage stamp can be soft as it is made of paper but ...yes it is very soft, smooth and shining as it is made of silk....another glittering Silver stamp issued by Poland in 2003 depicting Pope... is also shown below..... I dont know how to express my gratitude for these nice stamps...It's a great feeling to hold them in my hands.....I never thought that I would be ever so lucky to have them...Now these gems are with me....Thanks Andrzej....I dont have the words to express my sincere thanks for these gems....I share these with all of you....and when I possess them an old TV ad comes to my mind.....Neighbour's envy...Owner's Pride...... The stamp shown here is the beautiful stamp issued by Poland on 19 December 2008, to celebrate 450 years of the Polish Post 1558-2008 . This unique issue in the form of a stamp block printed on silk is the culmination of the celebrations of the 450th jubilee of the Polish Post. The stamp presents a horse messenger on the background of a Renaissance panorama of Krakow city (the end of the 16th century).

The Unique feature of this stamp -

Printed on silkIt's the second time in the history of Polish philately that they are presenting a postage stamp printed on silk. The first one was issued on account of the 400th jubilee of the Polish Post in December 1958 - a non-serrated anniversary issue in a stamp block, denominated at PLN 50, featuring a reproduction of the painting "Na kieleckim szlaku" (eng. On the Kielce Route) by Apoloniusz Kędzierski, composed with deep blue lines on a light purple background. The original painting, missing during the years of World War II, belongs to the Museum of the Post and Telecommunications. An identical image has been printed on a PLN 2.50 postage stamp issued in October the same year on account of the "400 years of the Polish Post" philatelic exhibition. The above stamps were printed with black ink on an off-white background. A certain number of these postage stamps were printed on sheets with an additional perforated margin as an insertion to the 1st volume of the book entitled "The Polish postage stamps". Part of the jubilee issue contained defects which involved printing on the rubber coated side. Those defective stamps are now some of the most sought after by collectors.
