I'm looking for people to do a remix of the title track on this hip-hop album I'm working on. The track is called "Freak Beat." It is a really stupid track and that is why i want all you people to make it awesome. You can do what ever you want to it. It doesn't have to be hip-hop.

Featuring Music by KCRW DJs

SANTA MONICA PIER – SATURDAY, JULY 19

Internationally-recognized artists will create engaging sights and sounds from dusk till dawn

GLOW is a FREE, all-night event taking over the Santa Monica pier on Saturday, July 19 from 7pm to 7am. From the sand to the sea up to the Pier and Palisades Park, there will be 20 multi-media art installations, music by KCRW DJs and much more.

A collection of international artists will transform the iconic Southern California spot into a premier art destination from dusk until dawn, with a dazzling array of effervescent sights, sounds and interactive activities.

GLOW is the ONLY event to have ever received permission to use the historic Santa Monica Pier and beach as an all-night venue and more than 25,000 people are expected to attend.

The solar-powered Ferris Wheel will host a revolving orchestra, "tumbleweeds" of recycled material will float on the ocean illuminated by LEDs, SASSAS with dublab will take over the carousel to present Tonalism, an ambient sound and projected image environment, and Shih Chieh Huang will turn the path under the Pier into Neptune's Net. DJs Garth Trinidad, Raul Campos, and Jeremy Sole from Santa Monica-based public radio station KCRW (89.9Fm and KCRW.com) will provide the soundtrack on the Pier, with drawings and animation created by a collective of Tagtool artists as a backdrop.

Inspired by the wildly successful Nuit Blanche in Paris, GLOW takes its spirit from the fabled grunion that live in local waters and come ashore several times a year to spawn in the sand creating a momentary sensation of iridescence.

Santa Monica may be best known as a cosmopolitan beach community but it is also a hub of creativity. The City of Santa Monica is home to perhaps the largest concentration of creative employment in the United States -- with 43% of the adult population making a living in arts-related fields. KCRW, an internationally-recognized tastemaker for new music, broadcasts from the campus of Santa Monica College. GLOW was created as a space to celebrate imagination in the public realm.

GLOW is part of the City of San Monica's strategic plan and made possible by major funding form the Norton Family Foundation, along with the Durfee Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, Starbucks Coffee Company and other generous sponsors.

Above is a 23 minute podcast from the amazing WNYC radio show called RadioLab. The show is normally a documentary/scientific discussion/awesome well produced show. Host and producer Jad Abumrad actually has his degree in experimental music. This podcast is an excerpt of the Wordless music series, basically its a series of concerts where they have classical and nonclassical musicians on the same bill. This performance is of the super awesome drone group Stars of the lid.

Kero + Theremin = Keromin, an electronic instrument

At first glance, Keromin looks like a normal stuffed toy frog. But, it's actually an incredibly elaborate musical instrument.

Keromin is operated by inserting a hand and moving the frog's mouth like a hand puppet. Noise is emitted each time the frog's mouth opens. The exact type of noise that pipes out can be controlled using buttons on the frog's arms.

Keromin gets its name from "kero," the Japanese onomatopoeic word used to describe a frog's croak, and the Theremin, the first ever electronic musical instrument.

Keromin can make 12 different types of sounds, from a human mimicking a frog, to an actual amphibian, through to a violin and pipe organ. The tone of its sounds can also be adjusted, allowing it to "perform" solo or as part of an ensemble.

"I'm having lots of trouble learning my own instrument, so I wanted to create something that anyone could play," inventor Okuyama tells Sunday Mainichi, a current affairs weekly published by the Mainichi Newspapers.

Though it takes a bit of getting used to, about half an hour or so of messing around with Keromin should see the average person able to belt out a tune. Okuyama spent over a year developing it.

"Eventually," he tells Sunday Mainichi, "I'd like to come up with a few variations and create a whole orchestra."
