Ketchup bottle all done. Started new painting of apple blossom hope to have it finished on the weekend. Need to pick up artwork from a couple of galleries for the Art Tour next weekend.

It's been a few days since I posted last. Had an art show opening at one of the galleries I deal with, the last week in June. After that I finished the loon sculpture, then on to another painting which is almost finished.

At this time also getting ready for our annual art tour which involves 8 artists. This will be our 5th year.

After finishing the Painting , I decided to do another Quail family. Only problem forgot to take photos of progress, so the finished piece is all I have.

The Loon I started and again neglected to take photos of the start of the project. This is where I'm at right now, will have to be diligent with the photos.

Have finally finshed the background and have moved on to doing a corkscrew and cork in the foreground.

Decided that the sculpture needed an addition , so added two baby quails. Have moved on to the background on the painting, this will take awhile. There are alot of different textures that have to be dealt with .

Have almost finished the bottle, have some work to do on the label, need to finish the lettering and to paint the colour changes on the label.

Been awhile since I posted.

This is another painting of wine bottle and glass. I've only spent a few hours on this piece so far.

Blocked in the background and got some of the leaves on hte spider plant done.

Well it's been awhile, seems I just can't post regularly. Anyways this is the latest painting, Started a couple of days ago, hoping to have this finished for the 15th ArtWalk happening on the 6th and 7th of Sept., in Lake Country, B.C..

New Works - a little tardy posting.

Been awhile, will have to try harder to post regularly.

Its been a busy few weeks, have mangaged to get a few new pieces finished. I was involved in an artshow at start of May. Painting posted earlier "After Dinner" (now titled "A Few of My Favourite Things") was voted "People's Choice" - wow what a compliment.

Travelled to Calgary to visit with our son and his wife, sure alot easier to fly than drive. Keith has just built a 1929 Roadster (still needs to do the wiring and such) and has a 1956 Merc. pickup and a Triumph Motorcycle that he had entered into the Calgary King of Customs Show. Saw their new home and had a nice break.

Got back last week got a call to go in for knee surgery to fix knee I that I damaged last January playing hockey. Not moving far from home so production is increasing - on the road to recovery.

Moving on to some of the latest pieces that I have completed

"Tangaro's Rainiers"

After finishing the painting of the cherries, I wanted a break from painting and started on some sculptures. The first was a request for a Raven from a neighbour (photo below of the end result). Customer was very pleased. (Approx. size 12" high 12" wide 5" deep)

"The Trickster"

The following piece is a Great Horned Owl. The first photo is the roughing out of the body of the owl, followed by the finished piece. Both the Raven and Owl are sculpted using Brazilian Soapstone. (Approx. size 16" high 12" deep 10" wide)

The last piece I recently completed. I have included a photo of the maquette that I made for this sculpture . The stone is Chlorite,and is pale green when you are working it. When you start polishing it with wax or oil it changes to black with just a hint of green, a beautiful stone to work with, I was able to great detail with it as it's harder than soapstone.
( Maquette is approx. 4" long Sculpture is approx. 12" long 7.5" high 5" deep

next bottle to appear is the Pear Brandy, which is empty. This was enjoyed as a topping to my Pear Sorbet thoughout last summer.

continuing on the Kahlua bootle is next on the scene.

here we have the Scotch, which I might add is a very tasty scotch.

finally the Napoleon Brandy, which was a much appreciated Christmas gift.

Now that the painting is complete I am very happy with the outcome. I like the way that the light reflects off the different bottles. I am pleased with the refractions of the lables that appear on the wine glass and the scotch bottle and particularly pleased with the abstract elements in the reflections.

The working title of the painting has never quite sat right with me and Noreen had suggest that as these are things that I like that I change the title to "A few of my favorite things", which I think says it all!

Now it is time for a change and I am putting on my sculptor's hat (actually that should be sculptor's cover-alls - its a dusty job). I will keep you posted.

After Dinner

My current work in progress. I will be doing a series of paintings in this style - I love to paint the reflections off various surfaces. Day by day it is fun to see the bottles appear on the canvas.

I composed this still life using a variety of different bottles out of my liquor cabinet and set them up to see how the different styles and color reflect the light. You will note that some bottles have more liquor in them than others, in fact one of them is empty hence "After Dinner".

I will post my work in progress on a regular basis.
