Diabolical Masquerade fué un proyecto musical de un hombre sueco. Todas las letras eran esceritas y tocadas por Blakkheim Blakkheim ("Anders Nyström") guitarrista de Katatonia, quien formó esta banda porque queria poder componer música más extrema, mientras en Katatonia podía explorar los ritmos más suaves. Todavía hay quien cree que el Black Sinfónico es flojo debido a que hay bastantes bandas que tienen un sonido casi Gothic, pero olvidan que hay otros grupos que suenan potentes y abrasivos. La escena alemana no se caracteriza por lo que veo por ese segundo tipo de grupos, pero estos Obsidian Gate sí que encajan con esa descripción
