Nothing too dramatic, but some strange stuff.

Feel free to chime in with your own true personal experiences.

A year or two ago some friends of mine moved into a small mobile home while they looked for a nicer place.

The first time I set foot in the place, I kept getting
distracted by the far end of it, where the guest bedroom/bathroom
was. We'd be in the living room or kitchen unpacking and moving
furniture and stuff and I'd just find myself staring down that short hall
for no reason.

Within the first week, my friends reported that their cat wouldn't go
past the kitchen towards that end and that they'd see shadows
that they couldn't explain down there - sometimes feeling like there
was someone there.

I wish I could say we checked around and found out someone had
died in that end of the house, but we never actually did. They just
stayed out of that end and found themselves that better place.

***

Around junior high we moved to Charleston, AFB. I found a place
right off base that I just felt instantly attracted to. There were
woods and trails and a wide open area the local kids called
"Crystal Lake." I'd spend a ton of free time there - weekends,
afternoons, late into the night.

Not too wierd that I'd like someplace like that, I guess, but
I did think it was cool when I later found a book in the
base library about a series of UFO sightings a guy had had
in that exact spot a year or two before we moved there.
I could recognize the treeline in the pictures he'd taken.

I thought that was odd.

***

I was kindergarten age. Maybe just before. Anyway, young. We lived in
a nice little place in Georgia where dad was stationed.

Even at that age, I slept in a dark room with the doors shut. Never liked
night-lights, never will.

I woke up one night to see my mom turn away from me and walk out of the
room.
I guessed she was checking on me. I asked if everything was okay but she
didn't
reply - just left the room.

But here's the thing - in the middle of my small floorspace, there was a
floor fan
I always slept with running. She made no effort to walk around it.

And then she didn't open the door when she left the room.

I got up, went around the fan, opened the door and looked down the hall.

No one in sight.

The next day I asked mom if she'd gotten up to check on me that night.

She said she hadn't.

But something had.

***

My mom's house used to be haunted. Yes, used to be. Whatever was there seems
to have moved on some years ago, but for several years anyone who spent
enough time there experienced something...odd.

During one of the summers I spent with her during junior high, the bedroom I
was staying in had a door that wasn't set quite right. Took a bit of effort
to get it closed and latched. Took more to get it open, which was always
accompanied by a loud scrape/pop.

In a lot of ways, I'm a heavy sleeper. I've missed plenty of cool
thunderstorms because I've slept right thru them. But whenever *anything*
touches the door of the room I'm sleeping in, I wake up. Made my first
couple of months in the military heck as there was noise in the dorm
hallways at all hours that would constantly wake me up...but I digress.

During these high school years, nine times out of ten all it took was dad's
hand on the doorknob to wake me up to go to school, so you can imagine how
surprised I was when in the mornings when I'd wake up, the door to the
bedroom was open about an inch. This happened for several days. I'd make
sure the door was shut, sack out, wake up and find the door unlatched.

Now, it's easy to say that because it wasn't quite right in the frame, it
was popping open by itself, but again...it took some serious effort to get
it latched all the way and it was not a quiet process to get it closed or
open. I feel strongly there's no way it could manage to pop open on it's own
without waking me at least once.

And then I asked mom about it...and it was never open again.

***

Sometime later - the next summer or the summer after - not sure exactly, I
was again visiting mom for the summer. The house had been remodelled so I
was in a different room with a door that worked properly.

The only thing I didn't like was that she had no real curtains in my room -
just blinds and shears which still let in a lot of light from the security
light outside (like I said, when I'm asleep, I want pitch blackness - always have).

Almost felt as tho' I could read in the room in the middle of the night with
the lights off, it seemed that bright in there.

I woke up one night and someone was standing at the foot of my bed.

He had his back to me. He had black hair and seemed to be wearing an
overcoat of some kind.

He started to turn around and as he did, he faded away.

I, of course, did what any brave junior BBI would do and pulled the sheet up
over my head and went back to sleep.

When I told mom about it, she admitted her husband had also seen something
one time. Far as I know, we were the only two to actually see anything.
Everyone else who told her about something just had funny feelings or heard
noises (or had doors pop open that shouldn't).

But, as I said, that all stopped for some reason. Whatever was there,
whatever it wanted, it apparently found it and moved on.

Oh...and mom's house was put on that lot by her. Far as we know, there was
never a house there before that and aside from some possible small
skirmishes during the War Between the States, we never knew of anything that
happened there that might've spawned such activity.

***

So...there's my meager collection of tales.

What say you?ArcLighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11684892065654012788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8022096.post-1157351367545359772006-09-04T02:29:00.000-04:002006-09-04T02:29:27.556-04:00Damn it...

RIP Steve IrwinArcLighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11684892065654012788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8022096.post-1147880775456267752006-05-17T11:43:00.001-04:002006-05-17T11:46:15.496-04:00The Contest of the Century!!

The “Could be you Cavalier Contest”!

YOU could be the next Hong Kong Cavalier!

How?

Exactly what are the prizes?

All details can ONLY be found in Buckaroo Banzai #1!

The full color first issue of the new mini series will ship the week of May 22.

Moonstone BooksArcLighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11684892065654012788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8022096.post-1146460527457632642006-05-01T01:15:00.000-04:002006-05-01T01:15:27.503-04:00The Most Useful Website Ever!!I love the show LOST. This is a hilarious freakin' film for fans of science fiction. It's packed with refs to Trek, Star Wars, Logan's Run....pretty much you name it and it's in there somewhere. They even slide a Buckaroo Banzai mention into the end credits. And it co-stars William Shatner himself! And it's now out in a two-disc special edition DVD!

How cool is that?

If you've ever wondered what it would be like to actually run in to your childhood hero in real life, check out this film and see what happens when two lifelong Trek fans meet William Shatner in a bookstore. Let's just say their lives change and leave it at that. Watch the movie to find out the details.

ArcLighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11684892065654012788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8022096.post-1141355990887613052006-03-02T22:19:00.000-05:002006-03-02T22:19:50.933-05:00Darren McGavinTo some, he's the dad in "A Christmas Story." To some he's "Kolchak: The Night Stalker." Others know him as Arthur Dales, the first FBI agent to investigate "The X-Files." Darren McGavin passed away early Saturday morning and I've been in mourning since.

Growing up with Kolchak, and remembering his role in the original pilot movie for "The Six Million Dollar Man," McGavin has simply been part of my life for as long as I remember. And while I still have my Kolchak DVDs and a fuzzy copy of "Cyborg" and can watch "A Christmas Story" all day every Christmas on cable, knowing that Darren himself isn't around any more has just left an empty space in my heart.

Here's a link to a page that includes a transcript of a pretty nice tribute to Darren McGavin.

'Countdown with Keith Olbermann' for Feb. 27 - Countdown with Keith Olbermann - MSNBC.com: "Darren"ArcLighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11684892065654012788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8022096.post-1139607324765576362006-02-10T16:32:00.000-05:002006-02-10T16:35:24.776-05:00"The Dead Live Again" finally finished!!Well...technically it still needs a little work but after all the trouble I had getting it this close to done, I decided to go ahead and post it instead of risk mucking something else up. And, bah! It's not so much that I don't like Christmas. It's just, they make it so darn tough to get presents for them. I mean, most of them are like "oh, you need to keep your money." "You don't have to get me anything." And junk like that.

And, of course, they're right.

I'm broke and work is going to slow down soon and I'll get broker.

But that's not the point. These people - they've been good to me. More than I deserve, I think.

And while I'm crap for remembering birthdays and stuff I can remember Christmas and even if I can't spend much on them, I wanna get them something and it sure would be nice if they'd slide some ideas my way.ArcLighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11684892065654012788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8022096.post-1134283106666610622005-12-11T01:38:00.000-05:002005-12-11T01:38:26.666-05:00STEPHEN THOMPSON ON JOINING THE HONG KONG CAVALIERSThought I'd point to an interview with the artist of the upcoming "Buckaroo Banzai" comic:

I'm not breathing Cool Whip, here.

Ranks right up there with the sleeping pill commercials that says the pills "may cause drowsiness." IT'S A FREAKIN' SLEEPING PILL!!! Drowsiness shouldn't be a darn side-effect, it's the pill's whole purpose for being!!

Sheesh.....ArcLighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11684892065654012788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8022096.post-1131864070762470462005-11-13T00:46:00.000-05:002005-11-13T01:41:10.843-05:00November RainOkay...it's not really raining. In fact, the last two weeks has had some of the best weather of the year. Sure, they're complaining about the lack of rain and intellectually I understand it, but it's hard to be outside on such a perfect day and think, "man, I wish it was pouring rain right now."

The Halloween costume thingie I threw together went over pretty well at work. I made a point of being as un-Jason-like as possible all week so when I changed, I changed all the way. Worked pretty well. Not only did no one know who I was, some folks who guessed it might be me were told by others that no, it wasn't. Heck, I got told to my face later that it wasn't me. One guy had tried to guess by the walk and mannerisms but said I didn't walk like me when I had it all on. That was fun.

How was your holiday?ArcLighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11684892065654012788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8022096.post-1130040662481943072005-10-23T00:09:00.000-04:002005-10-23T00:11:02.486-04:00HalloweenMan, I'm pooped. Burnt out. Whatever. This overtime is getting to me.

But I managed to throw together something for the "Fall Festival" costume contest so here's a look-see:

ArcLighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11684892065654012788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8022096.post-1128751944811751212005-10-08T01:56:00.000-04:002005-10-08T02:12:24.820-04:00This 'n' ThatI've been on overtime since before the last entry, so that's part of why there's been nothing new. That and the fact that I'm a lazy slob.

So there's a new "Night Stalker" series out, just in time to make you really glad the original is on DVD now.

Two episodes in and I'll give my impressions so far...

The one word that still comes first to mind regarding the new show is:

bland.

There's just no "there" there.

Certainly nothing we haven't seen done better a hundred times before on other shows.

Sure, it's better than having yet another 'reality' show on the air, but really, test patterns are better than those things and most of them are more interesting than this show has been so far.

If it weren't "Night Stalker" I'd probably already have seen all the episodes I was going to watch, because quite frankly CSI is still a thousand times better. But since it is "Night Stalker" I'm going to try and tough it out a little longer and see if these aren't just particularly boring 'growing pains' and the show can develop some character of its own to keep me interested.

Meanwhile, the $.50 preview of the upcoming Buckaroo Banzai comic is coming in December, so that's cool.

Done a few more Fark Photoshop contests. Here's that page link that lets you keep track of the contests:

FARK Photoshop entries

Can't believe I made it to fourth with that crappy "Speed Checked By Radar" image.

Gah...I'm just tired and burnt out. I should sack out soon. I'm being taken out for dinner...well, lunch, and a movie tomorrow (later today). We're hitting up "Serenity" and the new ice cream place is open right by the theater too, so double-score for me.ArcLighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11684892065654012788noreply@blogger.com
