What's up everyone? Been quite some time since the last update. I guess I needed a longer break than I thought and just needed to sort out a few things in terms of the continued viability of the blog. So, I'll be back at it now and getting back to posting albums probably next weekend. This week I'll be posting singles from Big Daddy Kane, Eric B & Rakim, Ice T, De La Soul and Public Enemy (about 90 in total). I found a few poorly seeded torrents out there and grabbed the content before they completely die. I tried seeding them myself for awhile but I've got my own I have to keep alive these days as well. It's been awhile since I sat down for a good amount of time to watch over the goings on with the blog. Work has been really busy of late and leaving me with little or no energy to sit here and rip CDs, write reviews and stay on top of my e-mails. The dedication to the blog has not waned but the reality of what I can manage in a day without driving myself into the ground has become more clear. I'm due for some holidays this week so I'll have time to unwind and refuel. I've been doing the work of two people at my job for the past 6 months and it's finally time for a breather. I'm sure a lot of you are in a similar situation of having to do more than you used and probably for less pay as well.

The banks and automobile industry have made a mockery of good business decisions and now we are stuck paying for it. Had they resolved the oil price issue before it got up to $145 a barrel, we never would have gotten to this point. A bunch of shitty, poorly educated, greedy bastards sent prices to levels that did not match global consumption demands. Remember "peak oil"? When's the last time you heard anyone mention that bullshit? Now we all stand here, some without the jobs we had relied on, others left covering for those layoffs and somehow those middle management slackers still get to feed their egos when we all know the entry level workers keep companies afloat.

The blogosphere has had its share of problems too. A few quality blogs were given their walking papers in recent weeks and the horizon looks quite uncertain at this point. I'm not sure where my blog will end up but as long as it's here, I'll keep pushing on. If you come here one day and I'm not here then at least you'll know why. Regardless of who's behind the removal or what their reasoning might be--it's still bullshit. You can't maintain a business model as outdated as the music industry has and expect to have success decade after decade. Blogs exist for a reason, we don't trust the quality of music unless we can check it out first. I spent the first 15 years of my music buying life getting burned by shit I had to keep cause it wasn't returnable. Old movies on DVD get cheaper, why doesn't music? So, yeah blogs step in and provide content at a reasonable value for someone looking to learn more without investing thousands of dollars. Remember that we've been fucked over by the very governments our earnings prop up and if the music industry wants to make sure that Jay-Z still gets to have his bling and limos then save your bullshit for someone that gives a damn.

In the event that shit hits the proverbial fan and I'm not here like health care in the United States, then I will do my best to let other places know what's going down and how you can stay up with the content and such. Probably a newsletter via e-mail for the regular content. There would be a new blog as well, and that might come sooner than after a shutdown. It would mostly be reviews and thoughts and all the music that would be considered to be public domain. The music side would only kick in if this blip on the radar goes off the screen. Thanks for the support and interest in what I've been doing these past couple of years.

Kid 'N Play- 2 Hype (1988)

Another classic right here. I know a lot of people are gonna say these guys were weak but when they were doing their thing in the late 80's to the early 90's there was a whole style of hip-hop (New Jack Swing) that they were among the leaders of for a good 4-5 years. If you don't think they were huge, check your memory banks for the movies House Party 1, 2 and 3! A lot of people were on their tip for their dance routines as well. This album has a few great songs and easily makes this album qualify as essential. "Rollin' with Kid 'N Play", "Last Night", "Gittin' Funky" and "Do This My Way" are all very memorable tracks and along with a couple of other decent tracks on the album, there's no reason this shouldn't get some regular play some 20 years down the line. Enjoy!!!

Ice-T- O.G. Original Gangster (1991)

This is one album a lot of people forget about when talking about Ice-T. This is a good quality album with a couple of hits and a good handful of great songs. Ice-T doesn't stray from his first three albums in terms of content on this one. The album followed a fairly weak effort in "The Iceberg" with a return to quality samples and good beats to match an unflinching flow from the West Coast legend. The standouts on this album are "Mind Over Matter", "O.G. Original Gangster", "New Jack Hustler", "Midnight", "M.V.P.s", "Pulse of the Rhyme" and "The Tower". "Body Count" is a classic as well but it's more of a bonus track that doesn't fit on the album other than to promote the group at that time. If you've forgotten about this album, you just definitely sit down and give it a listen. Enjoy!!!

This is a classic album! Onyx was brought on the scene with the help of Jam Master Jay (R.I.P.) in the early 90's and tore things up. Back in the day, I knew someone who had BET and they were dropping the "Throw Ya Gunz" video on the hip-hop video shows and it was definitely something new. We'd seen aggression before from the likes of N.W.A. and The Geto Boys but Onyx was straight up aggressive. So much so that their inner rage made their voice crack at times and that rawness was almost surreal at the time. You'll probably remember these guys for "Throw Ya Gunz" and "Slam" but there are a number of quality tracks on this album. The light shone briefly for this crew but they made one hell of a mark on hip-hop history with just this album. Anytime you just get massively stressed out, this is a great album to drop and no matter how hype a crowd you got at a show, a dose of Onyx will take the crowd one notch higher. Enjoy this classic!!!!

Also, on the news tip, Bomb Hip-Hop has announced that the legendary Return of the DJ series will release Volume 6 in November of this year. It will feature tracks from JS-1, T-Rock, Patch Lunch, Irie, Dr, Jones, 3FX Crew, Wicked, DJ Agent 86, Itchyron and Blendoffendaz. It's sure to be another classic and one of better albums of the year. You can can expect a couple of copies to be contest prizes here around Christmas time. I'll keep you informed once the album is officially released.

Alright, before I get into this post, I just wanted to say whoops for not posting the past week. Just seemed to hit a wall last week and didn't get the time and energy to sit down and write something up. I will be getting back into the swing of things and there's lots to post as always. Special Ed- Youngest In Charge (1989)

We've finally come to the end of the day of celebration for the two year anniversary and I am glad about that. The last 22 posts you see on the blog were written today so I'm glad to be leaving the computer and take a breather tomorrow. Once again, I just wanted to thank all those who have helped the blog in all kinds of ways, all the blog authors I have come in contact with and all the visitors who come by each and every day. I hope you'll keep coming and I hope you'll keep enjoying what I have to offer. Thanks!!!

I thought I'd end off the day with one of the top 25 albums of all-time. Gotta leave it on a high note and this work of pure brilliance is just the right thing. Special Ed came on the scene as a 16 year old unknown and in a few short months he was indeed "The Magnificent". An uncanny ability to create a complex rhyme that sounds simple at first and then makes you rewind to try and catch how he put those last two lines together. He also had a great sense of humour, but in a very nonchalant way which just made you crack a smile. It's a shame that he wasn't able to maintain this level of dopeness and creativity following his sophomore album. Regardless, we're still left with this great album and a decent follow-up. You can't not have this in the collection so check your files and if there's a gap under Special Ed, then grab it. Enjoy!!!!!

Twin Hype- Twin Hype (1989)

Here's an often forgotten album from the late 80's and truth be told, there's a reason why--it's not that good. However, "Do It To The Crowd" is a solid track and was the lone hit from the album. Twin Hype definitely fit the mold of a one-hit wonder. At least they had a hit though. The number of albums out there with no hits is extraordinary. If I had to pick a couple of other decent tracks they would be the title track, "Twin Hype" and "Tales Of The Twins". If you don't have this, I would at least grab it because the one track is good enough to keep this in the collection. Enjoy!!

Earlier I gave you the album you remembered. Now, I'm giving you the album you forgot about. This is their self-titled debut and it's ok. I'm not gonna come out and call it a good album but it's not that bad either. This is more for the collectors and those who are curious. Another one for the collection and something you can use when you're chillin' with friends trying to out do each other with obscure tracks and it's also good for a rare hip-hop night. It's also good for a few laughs as to what happens when a gimmick doesn't work out like you'd like it to. Enjoy!!

Shades of Culture- Mindstate (1998)

Time for a little Canadiana again. I'm betting a number of you won't have heard of these guys before. A solid crew that released a limited amount of material but most of it was some high quality hip-hop. Shades of Culture came out of Montreal and released this album and a retrospective a couple years later of some of the tracks they had done bring to their record deal. Definitely give this album a listen if you're not familiar with them. You won't be disappointed, I can guarantee that. It is one of the top albums in Canada's hip-hop history! You might also recognize DJ Storm's name from the world famous ROTDJ series. So, yeah, you can expect some nice scratches on the album aside from the cameo form A-Trak. Enjoy!!!!!
