I've decided to move my blog to my personal website at http://www.beastnet.co.uk/blog.

This is no reflection on the service provided by Blogger which all and all has been pretty great up to now. It is just that I fancied having a lot more control over the way my posts are displayed and the integration with other bits and pieces.

I found this quite interesting as I hadn't considered how much damage this new law could potentially do. I had assumed that it would only have a positive impact; it would seem that I could be very wrong.

Isn't that a clever second part of our plan? We're going to make working as a tart worse, more difficult and less financially rewarding, all in the name of protecting the working girls.

But that's how we make law nowadays. We throw in a few demons (Sex slavery! Pimps!), lie about either their frequency or their activity and hope we've fooled enough of the public so that we can get the new measures into the Statute Book before anyone notices.

Israel is making no friends here, only enemies

Well worth watching this Monday's Newsnight on the iPlayer to get up to date on Israel's vicious attack on Gaza.

All in all the way Israel is acting (with what seems to be hugely disproportionate force) will only make more enemies across the whole world. Hell if I was in Gaza I'd be taking up arms against Israel.

I'm also disgusted at how little we, and the rest of the world are doing to reprimand Israel for such irresponsible behaviour.

But then again at least they didn't cross a continent to start a war in a foreign land :-s

PETA makes attempt to make people wake up from the cartoon meat fantasy

What bugs me most about about the way we eat meat in this country is the inconsistency in the behaviour. We claim to be animal lovers but still stuff our faces with the dead flesh of our so called friends. I think a big reason for this inconsistency is how alienated we are from the process of producing and preparing meat.

Would most people be able to eat meat if they had to kill the animal themselves, bleed it and gut it? Maybe if it was life and death, but it just isnt anymore is it?

PETA seem to also be aware of this separation and are picking on the DS game "Cooking Mama" which PETA claims is too "meat focussed". I also note that the game further enforces the illusion that the preparation of meat is cutesy and clean.

To combat this they've made a satirical pop at the Cooking Mama games by making their own gore filled version. However I'm sorry to say I don't think its going to have the desired affect, as the register says;

Register Hardware’s sceptical that the game will have much effect - not least because it's actually a lot of fun to play. Admittedly it’s quite gory and difficult to rip the bird’s feathers out, but we’ve seen worse PG-rated films.

Music companies make fools of themselves yet again in France

The French music industry is suing four US-based companies for distributing P2P applications that can potentially be used to illegally share music.

Société civile des Producteurs de Phonogrammes en France (SPPF), a group representing French record labels, is targeting Limewire, Morpheus, and Vuze (formerly Azureus) in the legal action.

Its fourth mark is oddly the open source code repository SourceForge, for simply hosting the P2P client project, Shareaza.

TorrentFreaks, which flagged the story, notes enforcing a ban on platforms that can be used to distribute unauthorized content is certainly ripe for abuse. What else can be used to distribute content illegally? Oh, say, FTP, web browsers, and email. Hell, the entire Internet itself could be banned in France.

I always laugh when I see how yet again the music industry world wide, instead of trying to adapt to the changing climate, alienates itself from its customers by yet again totally misunderstanding the nature of the industry they blame for their downfall. Even a 10 minute discussion with anyone even mildly technically literate could have pointed out why this litigation is so ridiculous!
