I sometimes think that the bedside nurses think that nurses who take on management roles are abandoning ship....they then think that the nurse who opted to take on a management role loses context as to what it's like working at the bedside...the daily challenges the bedside nurse is faced with.<BR/><BR/>Now knowing you and what I have read in your blog...I get the impression that you took on the management role in order to bring nursing issues and concerns to the forefront and to be an instrument for change....a "change agent". I know it hasn't been that long that you have been in the management role and so bedside nursing is very fresh in your mind.....I think what happens is that all to often the manager gets more and more removed from the issues of bedside nursing...drawn more into meetings about finances and the likes...rather than how can we make the patient flow in this department better, how can we deal with staffing issues, what can we do to make this department the best department to work in.<BR/><BR/>Having been on bothsides of the fence over my nursing career I can see both sides....what I would just like to see more of is collaboration of energy and efforts...let's work together problem solve together...give me your ideas I will give you mine....<BR/><BR/>Ah nursing.....the joys of it all...Smalltown RNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08806734351278128551noreply@blogger.com
