Yum yum...another place to buy unusual, hard to find beer by the bottle. Hops & Vines is located in West Asheville and has a large selection of tasty brews and wines. A great place to stock up prior to heading out camping or to a party.

Beer tastings are held Fridays from 4-7pm and feature a different brewery or style of beer. Wine tastings are held every Saturday from 2-5pm and focus on a particular winery, grape varietals, or a certain wine region. This Riday they are featuring Wolaver's Brewing, Middlebury, VA who brew all organic beers.

Wow, I knew everyone lucky enough to live in asheville is generally happier than a 3 legged man in an ass kicking contest but....

Eric Weiner's new novel, "The Geography of Bliss". In his book Eric travels the entire world doing research about happiness. I will let you read the book to find out where people are the happiest in the entire world. But, you guessed it, Asheville, North Carolina was named the happiest city in all of North America. Pretty crazy, although my friend Soup and myself discuss weekly how even though we've been living here for four years, it still feels like we are on vacation.

the chocolate lounge - a review

Nothing quite as fun as stepping into a new asheville drinking/eating venue for the first time. Located on Lexington Ave, downtown, the Chocolate Lounge certainly offers a great place for chocolate lovers(read: all women) as well as beer and tea sippers.

It has a cool atmosphere but they have a LONG way to go in my opinion to get this to a prime asheville hang out spot. My main complaint was the insanely slow line, they definately need two lines, one for people grabbing a quick chocolatte or beer and another for people ordering complicated double extra grande whipped moca-latte frappocino's. There was only a few people in front of us and we had a looooong wait. Also lets just say a friend bought a 7 dollar milk shake that basically tasted like flavored milk, it was that thin.

But, that place has great potential for sure. Here is a summary of some of the reviews on asheville's rest. review site:

Thanks to Dingo for planning an awesome camping and biking trip to N. GA's Bull Mountain. A great campsite, followed by a great ride on bull mountain trails, the bestest fucking campfire ever combined with Stevo's tasty portabella mushrooms provided one sweet arse weekend.

Extra thanks to Butterfly for fixing sleeping bags, vests and on and on...plus sweet talking our way out of a hefty speeding ticket.

Good times indeed!! Special kudos to Major's first ever camping trip.

Cabin Xmas Party

PARTY UPDATE: Sue has added an event to the party, a White Elephant Gift Swap. Many of you may know this game, for those who don't here are the rules: Please bring a wrapped gift not to excede $10. Serious, goofy, fun, whatever, because this is where the fun begins! Everyone draws a number. Number 1 goes first of course and opens a gift. #2 opens a gift, but can also exchange what they open with #1, or keep it. #3, the same, and on and on. The last number person is the best!

PARTY UPDATE #2: Kylee suggested some parking ideas since we need to carpool to the cabin to help with parking and to not annoy our neighbors too much: Meet up at the home depot where I40 goes under Patton Avenue. This is a great idea, they have tons of parking and its on the way to the cabin. I'd say meet up there at 3:45. Also, I have room for at least 12 cars at my house, you can squeeze quite a few in my driveway as well as my lot past my house has a gravel driveway that can take quite a few cars as well.

Pretty fucking cool, this would be awesome to put into a spare bedroom turned into an excercise room.

If your pedaling at a decent rate, you can easily power a small LCD TV and watch tv while you get a workout with free power. Basically its a bike trainer with a built in permanent magnet DC generator. This you hook up to the power pack that has two power outlets in it where you can plug in a tv, dvd player, laptop, etc.

Plus the power unit is portable, so before a camping trip pedal hard for an hour and have some power for your laptop or speakers at your campsite. Or fuck, run a blender and make some tasty bevies.

Halloween Wrap Up

Holy ass fucker, what a great halloween!! There was so much going on it was impossible to do even a fraction of it. Mi lady debuted with Bombs Away Cabaret Thursday Night at the Rocket Club and also 2 shows Friday night of halloween, one at the Boiler Room, and one later at The Rocket Club.

I was very impressed with their performance, the writing, acting, original song, dancing, and great costumes really made for an unique, funny and sexy performance. Dingo and Dr. Destructo rolled in from Hotlanta and we all met up at the Rocket Club and enjoyed some great music as well from the Train Wrecks and Snake Oil Medicine Show.

Just did the early voting thang at the nearest place, a church....I was a little concerned that I'd either burst into flames upon entering the church, or the church would melt and satan would appear but alas nothing so dramatic happened.

What did shock me was the insane amount of McCain and Palin signs right on the church's property, I guess they were outside of the legal limit, but shit, these fucking organizations are tax exempt, isnt' there a separation of church and state issue going on here?

And while we are on that subject, why know hard liquor sales in NC on sunday? Or no beer sales on sunday in most states, sounds like a clear separation issue.

Asheville City Schools are operating on a three-hour delay this morning after unexpected snow Tuesday.

Several local WNC schools are closed today due to heavey snowfall said officials.

Western North Carolina got an early taste of winter Tuesday with an early snowfall that closed schools and slickened roads.

Up to 5 inches fell in higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service.
