I look at happiness a little different than some people I think. Happiness tends to be a fleeting emotion. In general with the state of my life I would consider it "content and fulfilled." When I think of saying that I am "happy" with my life, it seems a little superficial. I imagine happy being more of a short-term emotion and contentment and satisfaction with respect to the overall picture.

I'm generally happy with my life, too, although I do find I have a lot of stress -- again, brought on as you said, mainly by my own over-achievement.

I don't care about keeping up with the Joneses, but I do feel like I want to be involved in my kids' lives. And I agree to do way too much.

That gets me stressed when I can't have an afternoon to just do nothing.

Interesting thought since I just posted similar question on a forum yesterday about this topic! Personally, I am VERY happy with my life-it is a comfortable life and I do not have that desire to keep up with the Jones's so it keeps my life in perspective. I am NOT happy with the direction the country is going in though which takes away some of my happiness. I am sometimes fearful of the future
