Because of their colour and stylization it is as if they have been handled by a designer. Clouds and trees have light pastel colours and are represented with clear contours, creating a highly graphic and ornamental effect. Aafke Bennema used to apply a related manner of working in portraits. She made lines run across the curves of the face as in an engraving. After the portraits followed rock gardens and underwater landscapes, in which the ornamental qualities of the succulents and corals were made prominent in the smallest detail. The representation of the present landscapes is less precise and detailed, the clear colours and curving lines create unity and speed.

The paintings of Elka Oudenampsen (1967) are preceded by collages. She tears out fragments of photographs in magazines, selecting them not so much for their images as for their colour and form. Often a detail, such as a road or a tree, is still recognizable from the photograph, but essentially they are almost abstract compositions reminding you of landscapes. The directness and abruptness with which the torn-out photo fragments touch each other in the collages create a peculiar three-dimensional effect in the paintings. The coloured areas almost seem to lie as autonomous forms on a platform, without the unity disintegrating. Frequently, the fact that the representation can be regarded as a landscape is caused by small details. A long, curved line running through the image horizontally, for instance, can be interpreted as a wire of a fence.

opening Sunday 21 June 4 pm, finissage Sunday 26 July 3 pm
after 26 July by appointment through 22 August

Marisa Polinm.polin@tiscalimail.nl0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7849802220981920075.post-25857820802305401712009-07-02T11:41:00.006+02:002009-07-02T11:46:39.135+02:00Entering Europe

The ramshackle little boat carrying photographer Joël van Houdt and 28 illegal immigrants just managed to complete its crossing from Morocco to the Spanish island of Lanzarote. The Voorhout is a pre-eminently suitable location for a wide-ranging audience to make a seemingly chance acquaintanceship with contemporary sculpture. Recently, Martin Assig made a series of drawings of faces and hearts with the title Beute (booty). This booty consists of the motives the artist has made himself familiar with. Heads and hearts are part of it.
The heads have been represented in broad lines, in a schematic almost primitive way.
The faces are totally covered with hair, the eyes are closed and the mouths held wide open. Sometimes words have been written on the teeth, such as ‘kein Hunger’ (no hunger), ‘alles alles’ (all, all), ‘warum essen’ (why eat), indicating a sort of warding off of calamity. Below the hearts are texts like ‘Du warst von Anfang an dabei’ (you were there from the start), or ‘Werde ich es merken wenn es geschieht’ (will I notice when it happens), which refer to love and death. The drawings were made in charcoal on transparent paper, on which liquid wax was subsequently applied. This gives the drawings a warm, almost painterly character.

In his paintings Martin Assig also uses wax, which is mixed with pigment. For several paintings he used existing canvases of amateur painters, which he partly painted over with ornamental patterns. These are composed of several round cores, from which lines are extending across the surface, like energy sources emanating radiation.

Galerie Maurits van de Laar. In this series, painted in Brasília between 2006 and 2007, she focuses on texture and color to reach an intrinsic harmony of mostly monochromatic paintings in which sometimes dark lines define areas or seem to lead to mysterious openings beneath the canvas. The restrained use of color suggests a serene dynamism.

Regouin had solo exhibitions in Sâo Paulo (2008), Brasília (2007) Berlin (2005 and 2004), Paris (2005) and Montevideo (2001). In these and other cities worldwide, her work is represented in important private collections.

ARTANA latin american fine art
Noordeinde 159 ~ 2514 GG Den Haag www.artana.nl

Marisa Polinm.polin@tiscalimail.nl0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7849802220981920075.post-28601650642155687492009-05-17T09:56:00.001+02:002009-05-17T09:56:37.951+02:00The other site bij Nest

Galerie West, The Hague

Marisa Polinm.polin@tiscalimail.nl0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7849802220981920075.post-87425209967559145112009-02-15T13:12:00.004+01:002009-02-16T10:13:39.126+01:00Hoogtij 16
More foto's.

Marisa Polinm.polin@tiscalimail.nl0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7849802220981920075.post-58572585586564233942009-02-14T16:39:00.002+01:002009-02-14T16:40:10.049+01:00From Artana
Ronald Companoca bij Artana
art@artana.nl

Marisa Polinm.polin@tiscalimail.nl2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7849802220981920075.post-55092997366313307772009-02-13T09:53:00.001+01:002009-02-13T09:55:04.388+01:00From Galerie Maurits van de Laar
Textile exhibition at Gallery Maurits van de Laar
Christie Van Der Haak ft.

Expositie Nadine Stijns Karin Mientjes

Op 24 januari opende wethouder Marieke Bolle officieel de locatie van Liefhertje en De Grote Witte Reus en de expositie van Nadine Stijns en Karin Mientjes.
