Okay then, I'll update.
In February I attended my first ever Stitches event. Once I finally arrived I had a blast! Susan from The Knitting Beehive was my traveling companion.
She didn't take any classes but went to the market on a couple of days. So I thought it would be fun for those that stop by here to see that too. Because I'm so visual I have to be able to see what yarn I have. For that reason I use semi-transparent plastic containers for yarn and fiber storage. The containers keep out dust but allow me to see what's what. The yarn is organized by color and I cgoyerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071854438182959692noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7840085.post-1137988214348080362006-01-22T19:32:00.000-08:002006-01-22T19:50:14.386-08:00Family UpdateHere's a view of the family so everyone will know we're doing okay. :o)

I don't have to be back to work until Jan 3, which makes this the longest vacation I've had in a few years. The two weeks after my surgery in Oct don't count. That was not a vacation. Today will be spent finishing presents and getting packages ready to mail. Tomorrow they go to the post office.

I’m not teaching any CS classes next term because it takes too much out of me. Working a full-time job and teaching at night is too much. When do I have time to knit, cook dinner, or clean my house? Never!!! That’s all going to end. Well at least I’ll have more time for knitting. :o)

Boy were they easy to do. Cast on 5 or 6 stitches on dpns, slide to end and knit like i-cord, increasing in the second round 9-11 stitches, without pulling the strand tight across the back. My current schedule has me leaving for work at 7:30 in the morning and returning home at 10 p.m. The only day I don't work late is Friday. I'm overextended and have only myself to blame and there's 6 weeks left of the term.
Even with the long hours I do manage to spend time knitting. Besides much knitting I had a suprise visit from an old close friend. Why I didn't get any pictures is beyond me but I did manage to find this one. It was taken around 1980. What's missing is a picture of Tish who was also along. Oh well, next time.

On Friday before my pre-op appointment I made a trip to Websters in Ashland to pick up my spirits. I bought two balls of Noro Silk Garden to make a scarf and two skeins of Koigu to make a pair of socks.
As you can see the scarf is almost done but sock 1 is just begun. It was a parathyroidectomy if you want to look it up. It seems the operation was a success and the patient will live. I just can't believe I actually let someone take a knife to my throat! On the bright side, I do get two weeks off. :o)

Wow! You would have been a pair of socks as long as it's possible for socks to be before they're tights - and all multi-coloured with pretty patterns and detail all over the place - then you could stand and admire your sock-self all day!

And the new school year starts on the 26th. Needless to say those of us assigned to the new campus are going a million different directions at once so that everything is functional before Monday! It's for a special family member. Once I got it home it looks like it wants to be a hat & scarf. Any opinions?
The natural is merino homespun. Since the orange needs to be held double to work with the merino two-ply I'm definitely going to need to buy more yarn.

Funny, I was so sick of knitting socks, none of which were destined for my feet, that I was determined not to knit any for awhile. At least I don't have to make a trip to my LYS for supplies. :oP

We tried to make our destination as much in the middle for both of us as possible and ended up on the coast just north of Jenner, CA.
This was our first trip to the coast together since 2002. It was refreshing & cool as you can see by our attire, but way too short. After 95+ degree days it was really nice. Yes, one sock is larger than the other one. It's because of the yarn. Lessons learned while spinning: 1. draft, draft, draft. The more the fiber is drafted the less compacted the yarn, 2. Did I mention drafting? :o)
