Because as an avid reader of DWF, you know I always have more than one goal going! OK, here it is... I will make it simple: "On November 1, 2009 I will complete the New York City Marathon!" Hey, I continue to run these days, but have not run a marathon since the early 90's. The longest distance I normally do now is ten miles. But I was in NYC a few weeks ago, and while looking around and admiring it's beauty, I realized that inarguably one the world's best marathons is so close to home! And I have never done it. So that's it, short and simple. Any questions? Want to run with me? Just send me an email! 'Til next time, I remain yours...
Dave

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-54841250720598606122008-08-18T14:30:00.006-04:002008-08-18T17:33:37.925-04:00Do You Need Protection?I went into our local Office Depot yesterday to buy a printer. Very simple. The thing was like $300. I knew exactly which one I wanted. A young man came over to help me anyway, and once he knew that I was interested in the printer, he started with the "now you will need ink cartridges, a USB cable, paper, and you should definitely get the protection plan." When I told him that I already had a cable at home and I have paper as well, he honed right in on that protection plan I had to purchase."

"For just $49 you will be protected for one year and for a mere $69 you will be protected for two full years. This means that if anything goes wrong, just bring the unit back in and we'll give you a new one. That is the smart thing to do."

Now I am not the type that buys protection plans. I NEVER buy them. Let me repeat that... "NEVER!!!" As far as I am concerned, they are very overpriced insurance policies. A smart consumer will stay away from these money makers!

I thanked the gentleman very much and then continued with my business (which was to browse around the store and see if there was anything else I didn't need). When it came time for me to pick up the printer and take it to the cashier, this guy was all over me. He even offered to carry it for me. As we were walking to the register, he asked me if I was going to take the policy and I politely declined. He gave me somewhat of a weird look at that point.

Just as I thought we were done with that subject, as I got to the cashier and whipped out my credit card, the cashier, a young girl probably around twenty-something reintroduced the subject about the protection plan. When I politely declined, she simply would not take no for an answer. I explained that I was not in the habit of paying 20% more for an item just to get this protection. And I am sure the manufacturer has a warranty.

"Well it's an extremely limited warranty," she told me.

"What does that mean... they only cover defects on the third Wednesday of every month?" I asked.

She gave me a weird look as well but would not let up.

And the gentleman, who was till lurking around came back up to me and said he'd take $10 off the print cartidges if I bought the plan. I was now surrounded but I still did not give in.

"We just had a woman that came in yesterday and bought a $40 shredder and bought the protection. Cost her $10 extra... she was smart to do so."

"Well, I think she was an idiot to overpay by 25%, and I'm not buying this damn protection." Then I asked the question... "Tell me, just between you and me... how much money do you personally make when you sell a plan."

"They add 10% of the cost of the plan to my paycheck."

"So you really push these things and you can make some good money, right???"

"Of course I do, that's how I make my money."

"Well, just give me the damn printer. I am not buying the protection but I promise to always wear condoms, OK?"

She looked at me as if I were some weirdo and didn't know how to answer. Man, I cannot stand companies who push those protection plans so hard. Office Depot, I am surprised and disappointed. That's the reason I went to you guys instead of Best Buy. But next time I buy something, I will give the salesperson or the cashier incredible shit if they ask me about the damn protection. Just let me buy my product!

See you soon...

Dave

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-57763413697686971292008-06-20T14:48:00.003-04:002008-06-20T15:02:05.913-04:00I Don't Know What to Do About This!OK, I don't have any idea how this happened. Sure, when TV stations requested that I appear on their stations to talk about my book, I NEVER in a million years thought it would come to this. Now I don't know what to do. I mean I wrote a damn book on becoming stronger, thinner and healthier. That's all. You've gotta look at this video and then please let me know what I should do. It is Sunday morning and I am sitting in the Yavapai Lodge cafeteria in Grand Canyon National Park eating my “All American Breakfast” while I pound keys on my MacBook! This place is hustling and bustling with tourists from all over the world. It is apparent that summer is practically here.

I gotta tell you, I just spent one of the most amazing days of my life yesterday. I spent an entire day being trained as a PSAR (Preventative Search and Rescue) volunteer here at the Grand Canyon (GC). This training will enable me to spend time helping people on the trail this summer, which will hopefully result in preventing expensive evacuations.

Let me please back up for a second and give you some background as to why I am here. As many of you that have seen my live talk already know, I love the Grand Canyon and I spend a lot of my free time hiking and backpacking here. I have learned a lot about life from my many experiences at the Grand Canyon. As a matter of fact, I just returned from my annual four day backpacking trip two weeks ago with what I believe was with our best group ever!

Well, this past summer, I was driving cross country with my son Evan, and I made sure that one of our stops was at the GC. It was my chance to introduce him to one of the wonders of the world and perhaps my favorite place on the planet. Evan and I spent the entire day hiking down to Plateau Point and back. This is a very cool lookout point way deep into the canyon and only recommended as a day hike for very strong hikers. The round trip is over 12 miles in length and very difficult in a desert environment, especially in the middle of the summer. The last six miles of the hike are a very steep, nonstop uphill climb!

We did the hike and made out great, partly due to the fact that I have learned a lot about how to hike smart in the GC. This knowledge comes from getting into fairly serious trouble in the past (needing to be rescued) and then simply figuring out what went wrong and learning how to do things right from research and experience.

Anyway, during the very last part of our hike out of the GC last year, Evan and I came across a man hanging out at the 1.5 mile rest house who was apparently helping others on the trail. We got into a conversation with this guy, whose name was Ron Gould, and I asked him immediately how I could do what he was doing. As it turned out, he told me that he was a volunteer for the Preventative Search and Rescue (PSAR) program at Grand Canyon National Park. He pulled out a little notebook and proceeded to write down a woman’s name and phone number on a page of it which he ripped out and handed to me. He told me this is the person I need to speak with if I am interested.

I kept this little piece of paper with me until about January of this year. That is when I finally pulled it out and called the number. I reached a woman named Bonnie Taylor who explained the program to me and pretty much said there is a mandatory training day, and if I am able to come on that day, I am welcome to be in the program. Even though that date was to be only two weeks after our big four day backpacking trip in the canyon, I made plans to be there. After all, I really wanted to get this gig!

So I pulled up to the Grand Canyon Training Center at 8:30 AM. I walked inside to a large classroom type setting where there were about thirty people there altogether ranging from twenty-something women to retired looking men. Seemed like a really nice group of people. I signed in, picked up all of my materials and put on a nametag.

I found Bonnie and introduced myself to her. She was all dressed up in a ranger’s uniform and believe me… she was very cool! Bonnie started the class right on time and the entire day consisted of Bonnie as well as different speakers attempting to teach us any possible scenario that could take place on the trail.

Basically my job is going to be hiking down a few miles into the canyon, hanging out in the very hot sun and trying my best to make sure people don’t get in over their heads. I am supposed to simply engage in conversation with every hiker that I can and in a friendly way, find out what their plans are. I can suggest alternate routes if I think someone is attempting to hike beyond their means but I do not have the authority to tell someone to turn around.

They say that when people go on vacation, many of them leave their brains at home. They do stupid things. Well, as I have found out in the past, the Grand Canyon is a very dangerous, unforgiving place, especially in the summer. Some of it has been there for over a billion years. Some of it will be there for a billion more years. The Grand Canyon does not particularly care if a human being dies there. It just continues being the Grand Canyon.

So yes, I will be back on the trail in July. I’ll be helping people stay out of trouble. And if anyone gets into trouble, I will be there for them. I am fully expecting that many crazy situations will arise. So what do you think I’ll be doing at night? Maybe I’ll write a new book and call it “Seven Days In The Canyon!”

Hope to see you in July!

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-4696350078124682662008-04-20T15:04:00.004-04:002008-04-21T06:03:39.650-04:00Goals Again! As you may know, in our seminars, I teach a segment on how to achieve anything you want in life. I have become such a believer in this, I wanted to give you a small example of how coming up with a goal can work for you.

A couple of years ago I had a goal. I really wanted to help people all over the world live the healthiest lives that they possibly could. Obesity has become such a big problem here in the U.S. and is really beginning to show its ugly head even in countries such as Japan, China and Korea due to the popularity of fast processed foods. Teaching people to be healthy was it for me.

I have studied health and fitness over the last thirty years and have come up with a very simple plan that will help practically anyone that wants to live healthy and become strong, thin, younger looking and more confident in themselves.

The goal that I came up with a couple of years ago has become reality with my new book "IMPRESS THE WORLD WITH YOUR BODY IN SEVEN DAYS." It started with a thought, which then became a goal. I wrote the goal down in my book of goals and read it every single day. Then it happened. I am now teaching people how to be healthy.

Writing your goal down and reading it every day is crucial because your brain transforms thoughts, and actually figures out a way to make them happen. This has worked over and over for me. I am positive that goal setting will work for you as well.

Because of goals, I am living the exact life that I desire. It's a real life. And let me add to that, when you experience inner happiness, your entire life changes. The little things that perhaps used to seem big and bothersome don't mean anything anymore. I know in my case if someoneo looks at me the wrong way or says something that would upset the average person, I just laugh it off. Because I know my life is good, I simply smile.

Unfortunately, many people's lives revolve around what they drive, how big of a house they have, or even how many "things" they can accumulate. But unfortunately many of these people are empty inside. As my reader, I don't necessarily think you are in this category, but I am bringing this up because I feel it's so damn important. Trust me on this one - I deal with a lot of people. I could go on and on about this but not now. Perhaps in a future blog entry.

But today my goal is to convince you that you need to figure out what you want in your life. What is really important to you. And if you say "my BMW is important to me," than I will tell you that you better reevaluate! A BMW is a hunk of metal. How about your life? How about your relationships? Maybe start there. Yes, that's smart!!!

Maybe you say "it's family and love that is important to me." Or perhaps living the healthiest life possible. Yeah, now you are getting it. I knew you had it in you! So if love is important, write down in your book of goals things the things that you will do to ensure that your life will be full of love. It may take some thinking. Just try, I'm telling you it works.

Example: The other day as I came home, I pulled up into my driveway, got out of my car, looked around and said to myself, I am such a lucky guy. I am living a great life. I am surrounded with love. And that's what it's all about.

But actually, none of this was "lucky." I figured out what was important to me and wrote it all down. And I read it every day. It works for me and I am positive that it will work for you. No matter what your circumstances are at this moment.

My goal started by wanting to help people become healthier. Now I have a book that is doing just that. And it won't stop with the book. I've been on the radio helping people, and these days I'm starting to get calls from TV stations that want me to teach their viewers. All this just from a goal on paper.

Hey, if David Madow can do this, I seriously believe any of you out there that want to do it can. It simply takes a little discipline. Figure out what it is that you want and go for it. Never give up!!! And one more thing, if anyone tells you this won't work, please run as FAST as possible from that individual. Only associate yourself with positive people. Get the losers and the rats out of your life! It'll be the best thing you could ever do for yourself!

Thanks for reading. I will be back soon with something incredibly interesting. So don't go far.

Dave

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-11280634397809863132008-03-15T14:46:00.003-04:002008-03-15T15:19:53.165-04:00Update on "Doing the Right Thing"A couple of weeks ago I published a post entitled "You Can Never Go Wrong By Doing The Right Thing." I gotta tell you, I received more feedback on that post than probably any other post I have ever published. I have thousands of readers and I thank many of you for your comments. They ranged from "very nice - hope we can all see the big picture and get along" all the way down to "this was insulting." One of my readers emailed me earlier today and said he loved the posting but said quite honestly I could have gotten the exact same message across without pointing my finger at anyone. After rereading the post many times, I actually agreed 100% with this reader. For that reason, the post has been reworked to give the very same message but without being unfair or harsh to anyone. So if you are so inclined, go back and read "You Can Never Go Wrong By Doing The Right Thing" one more time and you'll see what I mean.

You see, I honestly want to do the right thing. It is paramount! I admit I am not perfect, but when I spot something that I can improve upon, I will be the first to admit it and make the change.

I close in saying I hope this blog will ultimately succeed in helping people forget the past. Too many of us harbor bad feelings and for that reason forget what life is really about. So give it up!!! I've said what I have to say. The rest is up to you. And as always... thanks for reading my blog!!!

David Madow
Author of "Impress the World With Your Body in Seven Days"

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-42020371911058391402008-03-13T17:11:00.003-04:002008-03-14T13:39:01.506-04:00Got the Memphis Blues?Next week Rich and I will be on the road doing our highly successful "Love Dentistry, Have Fun and Get Rich" seminar. Our first stop (opening day) will be in Memphis, Tennessee! I am so looking forward to being in Memphis... I'm going to try to get in a little early the day before in order to sample some of the good barbeque and perhaps catch a little music. Speaking of music, I don't know whether this has ever been documented, but I believe that Memphis could be the most written about city in the music that has come out over the past fifty years or so. I cannot prove this, but if you think there is another city that is mentioned more than Memphis, please send me an email or give me a call.

By the way, speaking of calls, it's always good to hear from old friends that have been away for a while. As we go through life, people drift in and people drift out, sometimes for no reason at all. Well, I knew that many people read my blog, but I guess I never realized how far it reached - across the country and around the world. Anyway it was very nice to receive a call from an old friend commenting about a blog entry just a short time ago.

Do you want to do something that will make you feel really good? Think of an old friend or a relative that you may not have spoken to for a while. Now, pick up the phone and surprise them and just say "hi!" I guarantee it will not only make their day, but it will make your day as well. As I said earlier, life is just too damn short. Call that person. Say hello. Hear what they have to say!!!!

So my friend, check back very soon. Because you absolutely won't believe what you will read right here. Now in the meantime, go make that call!!!!

David Madow

P.S. please be sure to check out my upcoming book touring schedule at http://www.davidmadow.com/. Things are getting busier and busier because everyone wants to be in shape when they have to put their bathing suits on in a couple of months. If I am coming to your area, please come say hello!!! Has someone screwed you over in some way? Do you want to do something to get back at them? Ever held a grudge? Well, read on and I will be able to help you with this. I'll help you get back!

I can think of a few people who entered my life sometime in the past that ranged anywhere from not being a nice person all the way to being a total asshole that could have ruined my entire life had I let them. Some of these people were so bad that I spent a lot of my waking hours figuring out what I could do to make THEM more miserable. Because if there were a way that I could get back at them somehow, I would of course be happier, right?

Then I got wise. Something recently happened that made me rethink everything. I realized that holding a grudge is not only plain stupid, it is very unhealthy. In the end, we all die, no one wins, and a lot of negative energy is spent when we could have been doing something positive.

Let me relate a story to you. The Drubbers were best friends of my parents back in the day when my brothers and I were all growing up. Our families were incredibly close for at least thirty years, probably more. We did a lot of stuff together.

About fifteen years ago, my parents and the Drubbers had a falling out. To this day I am not even sure of the reason. They probably don't even know themselves! But the reason of the falling out is no longer important. Like so many grudges, the reason is secondary to the fact that the parties needed to keep the grudge going. So for quite some time now, the Madows and the Drubbers have not talked and have snubbed each other when they have seen each other in restaurants, while shopping, at funerals, etc.

I find it so sad that people can harbor such hatred. But I do believe that good things can arise from bad things. I know that no matter how long a grudge has been going on, you can never err by doing the right thing. Let me say something here. I believe it's never too late to do the right thing. So if any of you somehow see this... come on guys, give it up. Don't die angry at anyone!

Believe it or not, I have had a few personal incidents that involved dealing with others that had been less than nice to me. And I have found that no matter how badly I wanted to give someone a hard time or to call them a jerk for doing something bad, I would never go wrong with a smile and nice words. NEVER. Being nice and letting go will never get you into trouble!

Well, alright you wise cynic, maybe there are a few exceptions to this rule. If someone is threatening you with physical harm, and you feel that being a nice guy could make it worse, then NO, do not be nice. Do what you gotta do to get out of the situation. But in almost every case, you will not go wrong by doing the right thing. And it just may add some years to your life.

If any readers are holding grudges or come across any people that rub you the wrong way... just let it go. Life is a series of events that we go through and then we die. Don't try to get back at anyone. Don't harbor bad feelings. Hundreds of years from now do you think anyone will give a damn that you put some asshole in his or her place? Just let it go. I'm telling you... let it go. Do the right thing!

See you very soon... David Madow

P.S. What can YOU do in only SEVEN DAYS???? You gotta check out www.impressin7days.com.

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-69830012568912359352008-01-24T07:02:00.000-05:002008-01-24T07:38:13.306-05:00Could This be The Country's Best Kept Secret?I must admit, as much as I travel, I had never been to the state of Montana.

Until last week.

Now, why would any east coast sane person want to travel to the middle of Montana in January? For work of course!

You see, Rich and I were invited to present our one day seminar "How to Love Dentistry, Have Fun and Get Rich" to the Ninth District Dental Society of the Montana Dental Assocation. Since I had never been to the state, I decided to head over a couple of days early and explore the area.

I flew into Billings on Tuesday, which by the way is not simple to get to. There are no direct flights from major east coast airports, so I had to fly through Minneapolis. Once I arrived, I was immediately impressed with the cleanliness as well as the friendliness at the Billings airport. I could just tell this was a cool place.

After gathering up my luggage, I got into my rental car and followed the directions to a place called Red Lodge. No, that was not the name of my hotel, it was the name of a really cool old western town about an hour outside Billings. The ride was beautiful. Great scenery, no traffic jams, no schmohawks and best yet, no road rage. Didn't see anyone being carjacked either.

Upon arrival at my hotel in Red Lodge, I threw my stuff down and went out to explore the area. It mainly consisted of a few blocks of cool stores, restaurants... all of the stuff typical of a small mining town.

After getting my bearings, I got back into my car and took the six mile drive up the mountain to the Red Lodge Ski Resort. Now this was a scary drive. The road started as any normal road would, but after a couple of miles, it turned into what was a narrow dirt road with sheer cliffs and no guardrails. I was OK, but if there had been any snow or ice, I would have been a basket case driving on this road.

The ski area looked pretty cool, however, the locals admitted that they needed snow badly and therefore some of the really good slopes were not opened. I rented a pair of skis for two days and told them I'd be back the next morning to give it a try.

The next day I got up bright and early, went into town for a very cool breakfast, then headed up the mountain for some skiing. I skied pretty much non-stop for the day and had fun, although it would have been better if there had been more snow. Instead of skiing Red Lodge, occasionally I felt as if I had been skiing "Rock Dodge!"

On Thursday, Rich came into town and the two of us skied for the day. I think Rich really enjoyed it, especially after his little ski injury last year at Park City. He looked strong and even though he threatened to retire from skiing last year, I think he's now back and better than ever!

After skiing, Rich and I drove to Billings to prepare for our seminar on Friday. What a great little city Billings was. It seemed to have everything we needed and we just couldn't get over how nice and friendly everyone was. Believe it or not, we found a great little sushi restaurant where we had dinner and even met and had pictures taken with Max Baucus, the US Senator!

Friday, we presented our seminar to the Ninth District and it went great. They had about THREE HUNDRED people in the room and the vibe was just great. We did our thing and we seemed to be very well received. I hope the attendees not only got a lot of great information, but had a fun day that will never be forgotten. I certainly know that Rich and I will never forget our experience there!

I am sorry that it has taken me 52 years to get to Montana. It was my first time but it certainly will not be my last. Next time I want to explore much more of the area. Big Sky and Yellowstone are waiting!!! Missoula and Whitefish need to be discovered. And I can't forget Bozeman.

Let's go back soon to America's best kept secret. Thanks for having us, Montana!!!!

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-51613292447557445002008-01-04T13:44:00.000-05:002008-01-04T13:48:13.655-05:002008 - Happy New WHAT????While waiting at the airport for a plane recently, I had some time to kill so I decided to check out the magazines at the bookstore. Glancing at the titles, I couldn’t believe what I saw. Take a look:

"The Top 50 Places to Put Your Money in 2008"

"The Best Places to Live in 2008"

"Music You Have to Listen to in 2008"

"The Greatest Sex Positions That You’ll Want to Try in 2008"

"Newest Gadgets for 2008"

"How to Apply for College in 2008"

"How to Get a Loan in 2008"

"How to Drop Your 'Lover' in 2008"

"Best Golf Courses to Play in 2008"

"Lose Weight in 2008"

"Abs 2008 Style"

"Go Green in 2008"

"Prep More Veneers in 2008"

Every single one of these headlines was seen on some of the most popular newsstand magazine covers in the U.S.A! All right, you got me … the last one about the veneers was totally made up. But I’ll bet you anything it will show up in a future issue of The Nonprofitable Dentist or some other schmohawk publication.

Will someone please tell me what it is about January 1st that is so sacred? Why do we always have to plan our lives in yearly time increments? And what is so special about this time of the year?

We love talking about time. Did you know that “time” is one of the most popular subjects that songwriters write about? Yes, it’s true that once we get past “love,” it’s “time” that we hear about the most in music. Think about all of the songs you know that mention time. In 1968, the Chambers Brothers told us that the “time has come today,” and a few years later, David Bowie equated time to “Quaaludes and red wine.” But the scariest was when Pink Floyd warned us that if we don’t pay attention, “then one day you find ten years have got behind you.” The reason that’s the scariest to me is because once that happens about eight times (plus or minus) in our lives, we die. Case closed.

The Moody Blues sing of being “lost in the desert of time,” Joni Mitchell tells us we’re “captive on a carousel of time,” the Rolling Stones claim that “time is on my side,” and Al Stewart’s mind drifts into “time passages.” I could go on and on but I’m running out of time.

Time is important in our offices as well. We expect patients to arrive on time. Our patients want to pay us over time. We schedule our appointments in units of time. When your hygienist calls you in for a patient check, you’d better arrive in a timely manner or she will give you a hard time. We try not to run over time because we want to get out of the office on time.

We measure our lives by time. But we can also measure our lives by accomplishments, and since there’s no time like the present, why not take stock right now of what you have accomplished so far and what you plan on accomplishing in 2008?

So what are YOU planning for 2008? Will you be expanding and increasing your practice income? Starting that pension plan that your financial advisor has been bugging you to do for some time now? Getting rid of that gut? Finally marrying the hygienist that you have been schtupping after hours for two and a half years now?

Hey, listen, my friend. Time definitely has a way of passing us by too quickly. Unfortunately, we can’t “save time in a bottle.” Many of the things we want to do never get done simply because life gets in the way. And oftentimes, before we know it, it’s too late.

Look … I hate the New Year’s thing as much as the next guy or gal. I am serious. I can’t stand it. But since just about every publication is making such a damn big deal about what we should be doing in 2008, I certainly don’t want you to think that I am cheating you.

But the advice that you will be getting here will be guaranteed to be much more helpful to you than those cheesy magazine headlines. Because you’re actually going to learn something that is going to work for you.

Here’s what I would like you to do. Think of one thing that you would really like to accomplish in 2008. OK, forget the 2008 part … just think of one thing that you really want to do in your life. Now get an index card and write your “wish,” “goal,” “dream” or “resolution” down in very clear words. I don’t care what you call it, just write it down. Make sure it is very clearly stated and write down a date that this will become reality. The writing of the date is crucial.

Here is an example of what you may have written:

“I will have a white Porsche Cayman in my driveway by August 15, 2008.”

Don’t worry about this example … I just made it up. But the format of it is important. You know exactly what you want and when you will have it. Please make it fairly reasonable. If you say, “I want to be a billionaire by May 1, 2008,” and all you have is $12,000 in your savings account right now, and your ex-wife is an alimony junkie, sucking money out of your wallet … well, it’s probably not going to happen.

Now, here comes the most important part of this exercise. Carry your index card with you wherever you go and make sure you read it EVERY DAY without fail. Don’t miss a day. If you do this, I will practically guarantee that you will have what you wrote on your card by the desired time.

How do I know this will work? It has to do with quantum physics. It has been documented over and over again that when your brain receives information, it figures out a way to make it happen. All you need to do is keep reading your card and your brain will take over. Don’t believe me? Well, I dare you to try it! But let me warn you. Please be very careful what you ask for. Because you just might get it!

This has worked for me over and over again. I’m not kidding. The concept is more powerful than you could ever imagine. I teach this during a segment of our full-day seminar called “How to Love Dentistry, Have Fun, and Get Rich.” Attendees tell me how it works for them.

So please get your card, write down your dream, and be sure to read it every day without fail. Then feel free to send me an e-mail (dave@madow.com) telling me how this worked for you. I would love to hear your success story!

And sorry, I am NOT going to tell you to “Have a Happy New Year!” Every day should be your best day!

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-46263627114732353982007-12-01T11:39:00.000-05:002007-12-01T11:49:03.163-05:00Brand New Madow Brothers Video on YouTubeHey, you gotta check out the latest video featuring Rich and me! This was part of our opening entrance at TBSE 2007! It's called "You Don't Know What it's Like to be a Dentist," and you can watch it for free by going to YouTube.com and doing a search for "madow group." If you want the exact link, try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7vgsELnBIA. Just another reason to show you that TBSE and The Madow Brothers Seminars are by far the best seminars in dentistry. Don't accept mediocrity... check out http://www.madow.com/ for our 2008 schedule!

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-42648052762963886792007-11-21T11:51:00.000-05:002007-11-21T14:05:30.219-05:00It's About Time Dave!I owe all of my readers a big SORRY. Why? Because the name of my blog is "Dave's Weekly Feed," and it's turned out to be quite a while since my last post. But before you get all upset and bent out of shape, there are reasons!

First of all, as many of you know, Rich and I just finished up with our THIRTEENTH annual TBSE (The Best Seminar EVER!) in Las Vegas. We had more than 3500 crazy spirited dentists and team members there and I gotta tell you... it was the BEST one yet. If you were there you know what I mean. If you were not there, shame on you! Next year's event will be November 13, 14, and 15, 2008. It's not too early to get on the list. As of this writing we have at least two thousand of you that are already signed up for it and at least another thousand are expected to sign up before December 31.

Onward.

Another reason I have not posted much has been due to the incredible amount of time spent finishing up my book, "IMPRESS THE WORLD WITH YOUR BODY IN SEVEN DAYS." The book is complete and readers are already calling it the best book of its kind! You certainly should go to my book's website, which is www.davidmadow.com and take a look. While you are there, you will be able to see exactly what each of the SEVEN DAYS is!

"IMPRESS THE WORLD WITH YOUR BODY IN SEVEN DAYS" takes the rocket science out of losing weight, looking better and getting stronger. I have worked on this stuff for over thirty years now and I guarantee that I have figured out the simple answer. This is the last book on weight loss and personal health that you will ever need!

So I hope you can understand my delinquency in posting here and I truly hope you can give me a break! I'll be going to Florida in a couple of days and that's generally where I get a lot of good writing done. So please look for some good stuff. Til next time, I remain yours...
Dave

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-80532521909755883432007-08-27T14:47:00.000-04:002007-08-27T14:57:32.661-04:00SEVEN DAYSI don't know exactly what's going on here but in the last week or so my email box has literally been flooded with questions about when my book "IMPRESS THE WORLD WITH YOUR BODY IN SEVEN DAYS" will be available. Don't worry... everything will be alright. It will most likely come back after this incredible sell off. But I kept having visions from 2000 when my Microsoft and Intel stocks just kept going down every day and I slowly watched all of my money go down the drain. I didn't do anything. Just like the frog in the boiling pot of water. I could not stand to see the same thing happen again. I made about 100% on Apple in less than two years. For you people that got less than 500 on your math SATs, that means my money doubled. Not too bad. I didn't want to get too greedy. I simply wanted to take my profit and run. What will I do with the money? I don't know. I'm waiting on the sideline now just trying to figure out how low everything will go. Why is this huge selloff taking place? I can't figure it out. Doesn't everyone know if we all keep buying, the market continues to go up? Crazy. But I can't control what all the other whackos are doing so I decided to take my 100% profit and never look back. We had a great run! Talk to you soon!

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-54982973484116209622007-07-22T18:32:00.000-04:002007-07-22T18:33:17.500-04:00Writing Takes Time!Have you read my post from March 7 about the book that will change your life? If not, please read it now. My new book, "IMPRESS THE WORLD WITH YOUR BODY IN SEVEN DAYS" is almost ready. My goal is to have the book completed and ready for distribution by the end of August, 2007. There are so many things that have to come together and we are almost there! From the March 7 posting, I received a ton of emails from people that wanted to get an advanced copy. If you are interested in your very own autographed copy and have not emailed me yet, please take a second and send me a request now. Just email me at dave@madow.com and put the words SEVEN DAYS in the subject. You will then be put on the list. Because of early high demand, I cannot guarantee you a copy, but the sooner you send the email, the better your chances will be. And please remember, you will soon be able to IMPRESS THE WORLD WITH YOUR BODY!!!!! It's coming soon!

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-12084034562189426922007-05-22T09:56:00.000-04:002007-05-23T13:34:36.570-04:00Madow Group VideosBy popular demand, we now have posted a few of our very cool Madow Group videos on You Tube. If you read my blog from February about Apple (part 2) you would know how I feel about the company. Go back and read it right now to refresh your memory. Now let me get one thing straight... I am not an investment counsellor, and I do not make my living that way. I am a writer! But just like you, I do like to make money.

So if you read my posting in February and happened to buy some Apple stock, you would have already made over 10%! That's right, in rough numbers, when I posted in February, AAPL was sitting at 85. Right now as I write this, it's at 95.

As far as I can tell, this is an unbelievable company and they are doing some great marketing for their products. We haven't seen anything yet! I believe the stock will continue to go up. As I said before, just walk into any Apple store and you will see what I mean.

As a disclaimer, please realize again that I am not an investment advisor. If you buy Apple stock, you may lose money. Do it at your own risk. I probably don't know any more about stocks than you do. But the thing I do know is I can tell when a company is good and that's pretty damn important when making an investment!

See you very soon!

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-42504189445096384492007-04-15T19:44:00.000-04:002007-04-15T19:53:01.727-04:00I Swear I Was About to Write Something Else!OK, picture this. I am sitting in one of my favorite restaurants in Delray Beach. I am just about ready to get started writing a great post for Dave’s Weekly Feed, but somehow my attention is being totally diverted.

You see, just about when I was really beginning to have faith in humanity, when I was thinking that most people have somewhat of a brain, I can’t help but overhear a conversation at another table, which is diagonal to me.

Here is the scene. There are people sitting at the table with menus in hand. While they are figuring out what to order, they are having a conversation. Before I tell you what the conversation is about, let me describe the people.

There are two couples, one of which is probably in their sixties, and the other one appears to be mid-forties. I have a feeling they may be parents, son, and daughter in-law. But I can’t be sure.

I kind of came in in the middle of the conversation, but I hear the fortyish guy (Forty) talking about how his business should be growing this year. Then the conversation switches to Canada. Forty says he’s never been to Canada but since he’s going to be in Maine soon, he wants to go into Canada.

Father (Sixty) then asks Forty if he has a passport. Forty says no. Forty’s wife chimes in to let everyone at the table (actually everyone in the restaurant) know that she has a passport. Forty then says he has a birth certificate and asks if that is enough to get him into Canada. Sixty says no, you will need a passport.

Then Forty asks if Canada is close to Maine. Sixty says “Not really, you either have to drive down and around or just take a ferry across the water to get into Canada.” (I am still not sure what body of water Sixty was referring to that separates Maine from Canada). Forty again asks if he definitely needs a passport, and Sixty says “yes, why don’t you just get one, they are good for ten years.”

Forty comes up with a great idea. He says he’s going to tell “them” (I believe he meant the Canadian border patrol officers) that all he wants to do is come in for a little while to “look around.”

OK Mr. Genius Forty. “Come on into our country and have a little look around. Just promise us that you won’t stay too long, OK???” You look honest. We trust you.

Then the really great idea comes out. Forty says, “Well, maybe I’ll just drive into Canada. If I’m in my car, I can drive across the border and no one will say anything.”

This was such a revelation. Forty figured out how to get into another country without having to present any documentation. Just drive in!!!! Wow.

Friends and readers, I’ll be back next time with what I was going to say today... that is, if I can remember! But for now, excuse me... I'm going to drive into Cuba. Is Cuba close to Florida?

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-20894923900000003682007-03-07T08:31:00.000-05:002007-03-07T09:14:20.079-05:00Are You Ready for the Book That Will Change Your Life? For those of you that have been regular readers of Dave's Weekly Feed, you may recall about three years ago that I did a series called "Four Days to a New You." In case you are a newcomer or you just can't remember, 'Four Days' was a very healthy lifestyle that I was teaching at that time. I was 100% confident that if any of my readers followed "Four Days to a New You," there would be little question that they would immediately start seeing very positive changes in the way the looked and felt!

Due to the incredible response I received from 'Four Days,' and because people were literally begging for more, I have come through with something that I believe is very special. It is a book that explains in very simple terms all you need to do to become the healthiest person that you can be!

The book is entitled "IMPRESS THE WORLD WITH YOUR BODY IN SEVEN DAYS!"

Even though the title pretty much describes what this book is all about, let me just give you a little more info in case you're interested. The book is written 100% by me. In it I summarize my thirty plus years experience of simple things that you should start doing right now if you want to look better, feel better, be stronger, and be more attractive to the opposite sex.

"IMPRESS THE WORLD WITH YOUR BODY IN SEVEN DAYS" is serious stuff that is written in a very easy format that anyone can read and put into practice immediately. There is no question in my mind that the readers of "IMPRESS THE WORLD WITH YOUR BODY IN SEVEN DAYS" will be thrilled with the changes that they will see with themselves in a very short time. And unlike other books that make promises (but either don't work or don't last), the "SEVEN DAYS" lifestyle will stick with you forever!

How can you get a copy of "IMPRESS THE WORLD WITH YOUR BODY IN SEVEN DAYS?" Well, I am glad you asked. The answer is that it is not available yet. I am currently putting the finishing touches on it because I want to make sure it will be the most valuable book you will ever read. And I am almost there. It will not be much longer!

At first (before the book becomes famous), I will only be printing up a limited number of copies. If you are interested in getting an advanced copy as soon as it is ready, I ask that you send an email to me so that I may put you on the list. Please send the email to dave@madow.com. In the subject, please put the words SEVEN DAYS in capital letters. If you don't fill out the subject correctly, you will not be put on the list. Also, if you want to tell me why you want this book, feel free to do so in the body of the email. If your reason is compelling enough, you could possibly get moved higher on the waiting list!

Also, don't worry. There is absolutely no obligation on your end to purchase the book when it is ready if you send the email. I just want to be fair and make it "first come, first served!"

Anyway, I am very excited about this project. It is a long time in the making. The world is ready for a book like this. I know you are! Please keep checking Dave's Weekly Feed for upates on "IMPRESS THE WORLD WITH YOUR BODY IN SEVEN DAYS!" And as always, thanks for reading!

I'll be back soon!

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-14449689550587088222007-02-08T12:35:00.000-05:002007-02-16T19:45:41.019-05:00An Apple for Everyone, part 2A short time ago I let you know that I was typing my blog entry using my brand new Macbook! Like I said then, I have really been loving the sleek, cool design of the black Macbook. Ditto that for all of my iPods! Apple Corporation certainly is a company that I believe is on the forefront of technology. They have come up with a branding that exudes coolness!

Have you ever walked into an actual Apple store? Unless you are in a large metro area, chances are maybe you have not. Well, let me please give you the scenario. Typically, the Apple store is located in a fairly upscale mall. When you enter the store, every single one of the products in their line is on display for the sole purpose of you coming in and screwing around with it to your heart's content.

Listen to an iPod, play with a notebook, watch a video on large screen, work with the OS, etc. etc! They also have tons of accessories that you can check out. Cool salespeople are wandering around to help you if you have any questions. There is NEVER any pressure to buy anything. It's basically like an unlimited huge electronic playground.

The basic demographic of people in the store is young, hip people, but anyone is allowed!!! I would say that the Apple store has the greatest number of "shoppers" per square foot of any store in any mall that I have ever seen! No matter what time or day it is, the store is always filled with people trying and buying cool products!

OK, where am I going with this story?

Well, I will tell you.

A little over a year ago I decided to buy some Apple stock. I didn't buy a whole lot. Just enough to have some fun with!

The stock seemed to almost always be going up. Of course not every day, but most days. When I had some more spare money, I bought some more. As the stock kept going up, I bought more and more!

Over the last year and a half or so, Apple stock has gone up over 50%!!!!

No as you know, I am not in the habit of giving financial advice. I am by no means a professional, nor am I licensed to dish out advice. But if you can read between these lines, I will tell you that I believe Apple will continue to be on a serious upward trend. I know they have some big plans for some new products. The iPhone is supposedly coming out this summer. This will be a big product. And their other products keep getting better and better. Their marketing is great!

So what I am saying is I believe there is still a whole lot of money to be made in the Apple stock. I certainly am holding onto what I have as well as buying more! If you have money to spare, I suggest you give it a try. But please be aware that Apple, just like any stock can lose money in the short run. So don't buy any unless you can afford to lose some money in the shortrun. I do believe that in the longrun it will be a big winner!

And if you're not certain, just walk into an Apple store if there is one near you. You will then be a believer!!!

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-28094631292527799082007-01-25T11:11:00.000-05:002007-01-25T11:28:59.599-05:00It's All About Customer Service! There is a Chinese restaurant right around the corner from The Madow Group office. Rich and I have literally been going there every Monday for lunch for at least the past fifteen years. Yes, that is FIFTEEN years. I would think it’s pretty safe to say we are two of the best customers in the history of the restaurant.

About seven years ago, Rich and I came in for lunch and told Andy, the maitre d’ of our favorite China Moon, that we would need to use a slightly larger table that day since we were having a business meeting and hence we had a lot of material to lay out on the table and review. Andy asked us how many more people were coming and we said it’s just the two of us. He quickly snapped back with “No large table for you… you must have four people for large table.”

Now let me tell you, as great as the food is at China Moon, they certainly are not packed with a lunch crowd. I would say on average, there are three other tables occupied during lunch in what is actually a fairly large restaurant. So it was not a crowd or a space issue that we could not sit at a larger table.

So we began to question Andy about why we could not sit at a larger table. “Do you know how much it costs to clean tablecloth on large table?” he said. Actually I had no flippin’ idea, nor did I care. “TWO DOLLARS,” he said. “Do you know how much it costs to clean tablecloth on small table? ONE DOLLAR.”

“And if I give YOU a large table, EVERYONE here will want large table!”

Rich and I just looked at each other in disbelief. I then said to Andy “Look, we are probably two of the best customers in this restaurant. Why can’t you do this for us today?”

“You are good customer, not best,” he quickly fired back.

“What do you mean? Why aren’t we the best customers? We have been coming every Monday for years, and sometimes we come two or three times a week. Looking around here, it certainly doesn’t look like there are too many better customers.”

“You two are good tippers. But some customer tip 100%. They are best customer.”

At this point, Rich and I are thinking WTF? Do we give Andy the finger and just go somewhere else? Well, Kim the waitress is so nice, the food is great and Sonny Lees, our favorite place is not open on Monday. So we just bit the bullet, sat down, conducted our business and had our lunch at the small cramped table.

Now over the years, Rich and I have continued to have problems with Andy at China Moon. There have been many instances where we have asked for a larger table to do our work, and he has repeatedly refused. Actually, a couple of months ago we had a lunch meeting scheduled with Richard Train (our general manager) and Harry Marsteller (our Promail manager). So Rich and I got there first and requested a large table.

“How many people you have?” said Andy.

“We have two more coming, so that will make four.”

“Where are they? I don’t see anyone,” said Andy.

“They’re coming, I promise,” I said.

“You sit there at big table. But you BETTER have four!”

So we sat down and in a few minutes Richard Train arrived without Harry. As it turned out, Harry could not make it so we were left with only three. The entire time we ate, Andy was pacing back and forth giving us very dirty looks. We could tell he wanted to say something to us but did not. It was a very uncomfortable situation.

But Rich and I continued to go on Mondays and give this place business. Why? Convenience and habit I guess. Also, Andy is not the owner. The owner is a very nice guy who does not speak a lot of English. That’s what makes this whole situation so difficult. If Andy owned the joint, we would have been gone years ago!

A short time ago Rich and I were back with six people. Several were business associates from out of town. As soon as we walked in, we told Andy that we needed a large table. Right in front of our guests, Andy began scolding us, telling us that we tricked him last time and we would never be able to trick him again He compared us to the boy who cried wolf. He allowed us to conduct our meeting at the large table that day, but I doubt we’ll ever go back to China Moon again! Thanks for your help over the years Andy! We’ll miss you.

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-28235378123529790232007-01-06T23:22:00.000-05:002007-01-15T09:26:37.493-05:00Pissed Off!!!OK, I know I have promised to give you some great things this year that will make you healthier, happier and richer. But something has come up that is so bizarre, that I must tell you! It occurred while attending a Baltimore Ravens football game.

I normally try to stay out of the men's room during halftime since it's generally made up of wall to wall drunken loud fans. I did have to go to the men's room, but I was able to hold off until the third quarter, hoping the crowd would be a little less. So picture this... in the bathroom there were many urinals (yeah ladies, that's the stand up version of the toilet) and many people in line at each one. As I normally do, I waited patiently trying to simply mind my own business. The men's room is not the place where I try to make friends or get into converstaions.

As much as I tried to keep to myself, I couldn't help notice that a guy in the next line was holding two very large slices of pizza. Not that I really cared, but I was pretty damn curious as to how this guy was going to juggle everything once he got to the front.

The lines were moving, but kind of slowly. Five to ten minutes went by. It was almost my turn. Next thing I know, the guy with the pizzas gets to the front of his line and apparently doesn't think he can handle things so easily. So believe it or not, he turns right towards me and asks me if I would mind holding the pizzas.

Being caught off guard, I really had no response other than "Sure... I guess."

So I was holding these two damn pizzas while this guy was emptying his bladder. Seemed like forever. He must have been drinking beer the entire first half. My opportunity to get to the front came and went. I missed out.

Finally my new friend finished his business. He turned around to face me and I handed him back his pizzas. He thanked me.

Bizarre but TRUE!!!

OK, I'll be back soon with a moneymaker for you!

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-33156068238073361372007-01-03T22:23:00.000-05:002007-01-03T22:53:15.122-05:00An Apple for Everyone?I am typing this blog on my brand new beautiful black MacBook. I have been into personal computing since about 1987 and this is the first Mac I have ever owned. Well, not exactly true if you count the one I have been knocking around with at my office. But so far, I gotta tell you... I love it!

Why a Mac and why now?

I'm not exactly sure.

Well, I think there are three main reasons.

First of all, I have been getting back into doing some design work. That's right, as hard as we try here, I cannot seem to find someone that I would call a great graphic designer. I've seen a lot of OK designers, but no one unbelievable has come along (except for my buddy Guillermo down in Argentina). So yes, I have been messing around with Adobe InDesign that it is installed on our Macs at the office. So it just made sense that if I were to be doing some work at home or at my Florida office, I would need a Mac with Adobe InDesign installed on it!

Secondly, getting this brand new beautiful black laptop probably had something to do with my extreme love of iPods, and the next logical step in the progression would be to own an actual Apple computer!

Thirdly, as "part owner" of Apple Computer for quite some time now (that's right... I own a few shares!), I felt as if it were my duty to buy my own products!

Anyway, I'm really enjoying the feel of this little machine. I can't put the reason into words but I love it! It's like I've entered a new stage of life!

Will I get rid of my Windows machines?

No way... I can't. I have too many of them and too much time invested in knowing them backwards and forwards! Our entire network at The Madow Group is Windows based (except for two Macs). And I have no problem with Windows.

It's just that maybe I like this new toy a little better!

Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826691.post-28414941906777096972007-01-02T11:29:00.000-05:002007-01-02T11:33:05.708-05:00Happy New YearWell, another year has come and gone.
