Knowing how much I love rainier cherries, my cousin Laura informed me that Costco has a big container of them...at much more affordable prices than the grocery store. And, she said the quality was excellent!

If you must know, Nicole and I kind of giggled all over Atlanta this week-end. We loved the cards I mentioned yesterday and we fell on the floor laughing at these Karma Checks. Good Karma Checks are intended for acknowledging positive moments (receiving an unsolicited favor, having an excellent conversation with a stranger), while Bad Karma Checks are for admonishing bad behavior (talking loudly on a cell phone in a public place, stealing a parking spot). I so wish I had these with me all the time...and the nerve to use them!

Some people mark the change of seasons by things like flowers popping out of the ground or snow falling on the ground. I'm always hot, so it is practically summer all year long for me. But when I get my first glimpse of rainier cherries, I know it really is summer...and that I'm going to spend a fortune on cherries for the next month. They are crazy expensive (for a cherry, that is) but so delicious! Don't wait too long to buy them though...they are generally only available in July (although you can occasionally find some late June or early August too).

Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is in its 94th year. Although I'm sure people have been doing this for years, it is the first time I've seen it...people are placing bets on the contest! Seriously??? Don't get me wrong - I watch it every year, but betting on it? Check out the action at noon on ESPN. FYI - to balance the excess of the contest, Nathan's plans to give 100,000 hot dogs to the Food Bank for New York City.

My friend Tanya told me about the "one bowl brownie" recipe on the back of Baker's Unsweetened chocolate squares. Super easy to make...even with my nephews! We made some this week-end, and as a good Tia, I let them eat one in the morning (before they ate their oatmeal). When they saw their parents, they couldn't wait to tell them about eating brownies for breakfast. So much fun being an aunt!

My mother "visits" exotic destinations every morning with coffee mugs collected from years of worldwide adventures. I haven't been drinking so much coffee lately; I've been trying to drink more water. However, I think I may borrow her idea and use these plastic cups to get away from the real world.

I received the best and worst mail this week. The latest issue of Real Simple arrived and so did a letter informing me that my subscription was about to run out! I am not crafty and I do not cook, but I love my Real Simple. My sister and I used to give each other a subscription every year (until she had kids and no time for magazines); I stopped getting it for a while and restarted my subscription last year. I quickly realized why I loved it in the first place. It is the best magazine. Ever. I wonder if I could get a lifetime subscription to it.

Snacky snacks

I, like many people, do not eat enough fruit. It's not that I don't like fruit - I love it. It's the washing and chopping part that I don't love. When I was at Miraval, I found a great fruit snack called Sensible Foods. I've only tried the Cherry Berry, but I love it! It is all-natural, has no fat, gluten or GMO (genetically modified organism - I had to look it up), no preservatives and each pouch equal to 1/2-cup fresh fruit. Good stuff!

I'm not kidding. The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the most compelling television I've ever watched. The preliminaries begin today, but the television coverage does not begin until Thursday - during the day on ESPN for the semifinals and then on ABC for the finals in the evening. Seriously...set your DVR now! If you don't believe me - check out ESPN's "Best of the Bee".
