They believe money is the cause of all the problems in the world and that we can form a world where money is unnecessary and everything can be had for free "And" then we will have "Peace in our own time".

We used to call these people bums and freeloaders or hippies but to the enlightened leftists among us they are now known as "humanitarians" and "visionaries" questing for "Peace in our own time".

Mr Boyle had planed to backpack on foot from Bristol, England to Mahatma Gandhi's birthplace in Porbander, India. So with only a t-shirt, sandals and a bandage, he set forth from Bristol.

And four weeks later gave up his quest after reaching Calais, France.

It seems that Mr Boyle didn't speak French and those dimwitted fascist Frenchmen though that Mr Boyle was a scruffy, unkempt, penniless, freeloader looking for a free meal instead of a scruffy, unkempt, penniless, freeloader looking for a free meal and bring us peace in our own time!

And we were THAT close, too!Warrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720528359843578475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7806780.post-80584399006173413452008-06-20T20:37:00.004-05:002008-06-22T06:46:50.064-05:00Another slip up from another dimwitted SocialistCongressman Maurice Hinchey, a member of the "Congressional Progressive Caucus", calls for nationalization of the oil refineries.

We (the government) should own the refineries. The majority of the money we pay at the pump goes toward the raw materials (oil), transport, refining, salaries, exploration and research. That leaves about 15 % unaccounted for.

That 15 % goes to the government as taxes.

That's right! If we pay $4.00 for a gallon of gas, the oil company gets to keep $0.16 as profit. But the government who does nothing but bitch about "obscene oil profits" gets $0.60 and the Democrats want to impose a "windfall profit tax" on oil companies which will drive the price even higher.

These same Democrats have did everything in their power for the last 30 years to limit production and exploration of domestic sources and raise the price of gasoline.

This is intentional people! We are being shafted by watermelons, (green on the outside red on the inside), in congress and the so-called "environmental groups".

Go, right now, to:
American Solutions for Winning the Future

Read the information then sign this petition!Warrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720528359843578475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7806780.post-51584358066378763352008-06-09T21:30:00.003-05:002008-06-09T22:52:44.488-05:00A Glimpse of the FutureVallejo blames bankruptcy on contracts with unions

"Now the city of Vallejo, hit by the slumping housing market and the economic slowdown, says it is in deep financial trouble. It's blaming contracts with public employee unions, much like the city of San Diego.

But unlike San Diego, the Vallejo City Council voted unanimously to declare bankruptcy and ask a federal court to break its union contracts – a move that experts say could set a precedent. "

Of course the Federal Government won't go bankrupt. It will simply print more money and make everyone's pension worthless as inflation eats away at the value of our money in pension funds investments and savings.

"An attorney in Santa Monica who worked on a previous government bankruptcy that also drew national media attention, that of Orange County, said cities and unions will watch the Vallejo case."

“Probably many cities and municipal entities have problems similar to Vallejo, if not to the same magnitude, at least of the same kind,” said Paul Glassman, who represented cities in the 1994 Orange County case resulting from faulty investments."

Many cities and municipal entities definitely have problems similar to Vallejo. As far as I know all of the large cities do.

The politicians have bought the voters of the municipal unions with inflated salaries and promises of unrealistic pension and benefit packages. The managers of these benefits have moved the day when payment is due into the future borrowing against the future and incurring deficits that increase every year until it becomes obvious that choices will have to be made.

Will pensions be paid or will the streets be repaired?

Interminable hand wringing and finger pointing ensue.

Unions blame the cities and the politicians blame the unions.

"Unfortunately, the mayor said, the bankruptcy is necessary because there is “absolutely no other way to pay our bills” in the new fiscal year without getting relief from the union contracts.

Is Vallejo, as some observers are saying, a test case for other local governments that might opt for bankruptcy to get relief from union contracts, including costly pensions and retiree health benefits?"

No, Vallejo isn't a test case, its the future!

"Davis [the mayor] said Vallejo's situation should be cautionary in another way. He said a citizens committee reported in 1993 that if employee-benefits trends continued, they would exceed city revenue in 2010."

But I'll bet that the citizens committee had no idea that the city would be so foolish as to keep raising salaries and benefits.

"The mayor said the warning was ignored by the City Council and city managers. He said the projected day of reckoning arrived three years early, accelerated in part by the economic downturn."

No. It didn't arrive early at all.

"The average police officer will receive a base salary of $121,518 under the current contract, with pension, health coverage and other benefits pushing the total cost to $191,060, said a staff report to the City Council on May 6.

The average firefighter will receive an annual salary, excluding overtime, of $130,112, costing $193,174 with benefits. Ranking officers get much higher pay – for example, a police captain earns a salary of $231,120, and the total with benefits is $347,726."

I don't know for certain but someone that knows told me that firefighters and policemen in Vallejo can retire at 50 and draw 90% of their regular salary adjusted for inflation.

It would take well in excess of $3,000,000 to pay those benefits for one person for 30 years or about the same amount of money, up front, invested, to pay those benefits without destroying the principal.

This same saga goes on in almost every major city in the US.

A very similar game is played by the US Senate and House of Representatives as Social Security and Medicare payments begin to overtake what we pay in.

Vote Democrat and watch the old starve as the Democrats promise you things they can't possibly deliver.Warrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720528359843578475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7806780.post-20939203787497854782008-02-22T21:41:00.001-06:002008-02-22T21:44:23.806-06:00Smith & WessonFor anyone that's interested in the Smith & Wesson spring spectacular rebate offers; you can download the rebate coupon HERE.

You can read the coupon terms HERE.

$50 on a M&P pistol plus 2 free magazines.
$50 on a Sigma pistol plus 2 free magazines.
$50 on a 1000 series shotgun.
$75 on a i-bolt rifle.
$100 on a M&P15 rifle.
$100 on a SW1911 pistol.

offer valid through April 30, 2008Warrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720528359843578475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7806780.post-51515270898293465762008-02-14T22:21:00.002-06:002008-02-15T00:55:58.109-06:00RecoilFor every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
~~~Sir Issac Newtons third law of motion~~~
That's what recoil is all about. Shoving that bullet at hundreds or thousands of feet per second results in you and your gun being pushed backward equally. Since that bullet only masses a very small fraction of your body mass and the mass of your gun, the results are mostly tolerable and there are things that can be done to lessen the effects of recoil.
There are two types of recoil, actual and perceived. Actual recoil is a constant and can only be changed by lessening the weight or velocity of the bullet. Perceived recoil can be changed in many ways and is what I will concern myself here since firepower is our concern.
We can increase the mass of our gun. Less recoil is felt by using a larger gun, (i.e. longer barrel or heaver frame and grips.)
We can wear a padded shooting glove, but we can't do that unless we know before hand that we are going to shoot.
We can go to more resilient rubber grips which will help take the sting out of the recoil.
We can use a gun that has been "ported", where small slots or holes are machined into the end of the gun barrel which re-direct part of the escaping gasses slightly to the rear and upward. This works extremely well. I have a couple of weapons that have been ported or have a muzzle brake attached which does the same thing.
One is the .44 Magnum that AOW fired. She is just a small thing and the revolver would have tore itself from her hands or flipped up into the air if it wasn't ported. She was sitting down and I stood right behind her because I knew that it would push her back. As it was, although the first shot startled her, she was pushed back but retained control of the gun. It didn't hurt her at all.
From the previous post:
"I don't like SemiAutomatics because I'm afraid of a jam when I need to fire... I prefer revolvers. Any advise if we just consider revolvers? I should have said that before... When we were getting our CWPs, two applicants had semi-automatics jam during the target portion of the test."
Semi-autos are prone to jamming for many different reasons, dirt in the gun, under powered ammo, mismatched gun and ammo (some will simply not function except with certain specific types of ammo, many are prone to jam with hollow point ammo), over-strong springs or worn parts in the pistol.
One cause of jamming is an insufficiently tight grip on the pistol. A semi-auto pistol is operated by recoil. A loose grip can absorb the force of recoil that is required to load the next bullet.
My wife is incapable of firing a semi-auto without it jamming simply because her hands are too small.
"My husband has a Browning 9mm SA - I haven't fired that one yet. Would it have greater recoil than my .38 revolvers? I like the SAs because they carry more bullets, but the jamming thing has me worried."
I wouldn't call semi-automatic pistols SAs. That's a designation that gun people have used for the "single action" pistol or revolver since the late 1800s to differentiate it from the DA (double action) pistol.
Try it out and see. Semi-autos feel totally different than revolvers. In the case of your PPK, the gun is so small that the recoil is greater and the design isn't ergonomic. Hence, it stings your hand.
"a new higher 'power' and/or larger bullet would be for home protection and firing range."
In that case I'm going to recommend you look for a .357 magnum with at least a 4" ported barrel. Use it with 125 gr jacketed hollow point ammo for home defense or a .44 special which is ballistically similar to the .45 Colt. Possibly a ported .44 Magnum from which you may also (or only) shoot .44 specials.
Remember, you should only fire jacketed bullets through a ported pistol.
I'm not going to recommend a .45 Colt Most of the revolvers its offered in are single action only and the double action offerings are extremely expensive. There are only a couple of different bullet loads available for it also. You would be better off shooting .44 specials through a .44 Magnum revolver.Warrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720528359843578475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7806780.post-406792082616160132008-02-13T21:12:00.002-06:002008-02-13T22:58:25.480-06:00FirepowerEyes, asks:
I wanted to ask Warren a gun question. I have a .38 Lady Smith, a PPK, and another .38 'Police Bulldog' by Charter Arms (I think). I'm not crazy about the PPK because the kick back concentrates the force in a very small area on my hand, so it hurts + the slide is really stiff also.
I want to get another gun, with more fire power. I can handle both of the .38's with no problem at all. I don't want to get something with so much power that it flies out of my hand.
Any suggestions?
People are frequently confused about the effectiveness of a given handgun caliber, recoil and actual power of a given round. I'll address all three and give some useful advice.
We'll start with actual power.
The power measurement of a bullet is usually given in foot-pounds but can be given in joules and is called "Muzzle Energy".
The ppk shoots either a:
.25 ACP @ (approx) 75 ft-lbs
.32 ACP @ 130 ft-lbs
.380 ACP @ 200 ft-lbs
The .25 and .32 are considered sub-powered and the .380 is considered marginal.
The two .38s (.38 specials) are about 220 ft-lbs
For over 30 years the .38 special with a 158 grain semi-wad-cutter bullet, (was the standard load for police departments across the nation), and had the record for "one shot" take downs. It's a proven round and gun combination and one I'm quite comfortable carrying.
.357 Magnum at about 550 ft-lbs.
This is the next logical step up from the .38 special and the revolver will also chamber .38 special bullets and allow you to practice with much cheaper and less recoil ammo. .357s can be punishing when fired out of a smaller gun the size of a chiefs special. The trick is to practice with the 38 specials and carry the gun with 357s, when ready for business, occasionally firing a chamber full when practicing to know what to expect.
9mm Parabellum/Lugar @ 350 ft-lbs
A lot of people love this gun but I'm no fan. It seems like a reasonable step up from the 38 and its possibly the most popular pistol caliber in the world and there are more handguns offered in this caliber than any other. If you plan on using this gun I would advise you to only carry with hollow point ammunition. The 9 mm is notorious for over penetration. If I have to shoot someone, I want the bullet to stay put and not hit the guy behind. The hollow point ammo, (if its good ammo), expands and dissipates its energy, staying put.
.45 ACP @ 370 ft-lbs
The good old 45. Its what I carry on a daily basis. Its a large slow bullet and a shot to center of body mass will put anyone down. People with small hands usually don't care for this pistol.
.44 special @ 475 ft-lbs
This is a revolver that's perfect for home defense. Less powerful than the .357 but more powerful than the .45 ACP. Its not very common anymore but the people that own them never seem to never get rid of them. Mild recoil and a powerful handgun. Who can argue with that combination!
.44 Magnum @ 1000
Just for comparison. Remember when dirty Harry said, "The most powerful handgun in the world". Well not anymore!
.500 SW @ 2600
That's all for tonight, more tomorrow.Warrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720528359843578475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7806780.post-8959044640726245182008-01-04T17:54:00.000-06:002008-01-04T17:56:04.010-06:00A NOT-SO-HAPPY NEW YEARfor one blogger:
The terrible news about the upcoming arrest of Lionheart UK reached my inbox in the wee hours of Friday, January 4, 2008:
Hi AOW
I just wanted to let you know that I am being arrested by the British police because of my blog.
As Pamela stated in her post on the topic at Atlas Shrugs,
[Lionheart] has been a warrior on the war on the jihad in the UK and exposed the drug running that funded Islamic jihad in Britain and posted on the tsunami of sharia enveloping his beloved country. My dogs were barking which required dire threats to quieten as I answered the door.
Maybe you have heard of our weather and the unusually cold temperatures (16 F) and large amount of snow that has fallen, (18"), in the last 24 hours. I live just south of Interstate 64 in Southern Indiana and you may have seen the news about the closed Interstate and stranded motorists on the national news.
A man, about my own age, (early 50s), stood at the door. He was wearing tennis shoes, jeans, a field jacket and sock hat. His glasses were frosted and he wore no gloves.
He told me he was lost and asked where St.James Blvd was. I told him it was about a mile and a half to the West and asked him where his car was. He said he was walking.
I asked him in and sat a chair for him by the furnace vent. He was shivering uncontrollably, a faint whiff of alcohol was on his breath. I asked if I could fix him something to eat and he refused but he accepted a cup of coffee.
My wife talked to him as he warmed himself and I made some coffee, I could hear him speak as I made his coffee ready.
My son heard him and came into the living room to sit and listen, to keep an eye out just in case.
He was homeless, he had been sleeping under a bridge on the Ohio River about seven miles to the West. He decided that it was too cold and he might freeze to death if he didn't find a safe place to stay. About midnight, he left his meager possessions, just a few clothes, and headed for his sisters house on St James but he had walked past the street in the dark. He was lost and confused, probably somewhat drunk, and hypothermia can add confusion to even the sober mind.
As he spoke, I realized that he had mental problems, as do many of the homeless.
There are places that provide refuge for the indignant, I'm sure he knew it. But they won't accept anyone who is intoxicated, which I'm also sure he knew.
He drank his coffee then asked me if I would drive him to his sisters house, then he offered me two dollars. Of course I refused the money but offered to take him where he wanted to go.
I intended to take measures to see after him anyway and he seemed anxious to leave.
As I drove, he told me that his sister was out of town but he had permission to use her house in an emergency. I was worried that he was just lying for reasons of his own but I was determined to see the thing through even if I had to call the police to ensure his wellbeing through this cold weather.
As we drove up to the house there was a porch light on and smoke coming from the chimney, even though it was apparent that there was no one home. The snow around the house was undisturbed.
I asked him if he was sure he could get in, he said, "Yes, she (his sister) told me where the key is." He reached out his hand, as if for a hand shake, and when I offered mine, pulled it to his lips and kissed it saying, "God bless you".
I was profoundly embarrassed but stayed long enough to see him dig around in the snow and find a key, unlock the door and wave goodbye.
I drove home, my thoughts disturbed, by the events that had taken place.
My wife was relieved as I came in and I started preparing food (very early) for this Christmas Eve. As I cut up fruit for salad and prepared the turkey for baking, my son came up behind me and hugged me, kissing my head, and said, "Dad, you did a good thing."
Again, I was embarrassed, not by my son's hug and kiss but by his praise.
I did it because it was the right thing to do.
Then he told me that he tries to help the homeless ones that hang around his place of employment. We spoke of how little we can actually do for them and I was proud of my son for doing the right thing.
He is a good man.
As I continued to prepare food for Christmas Eve, my thoughts drifted to a couple seeking shelter in Bethlehem and the birth of the Lamb of the New Covenant, and I felt God's Peace.
May God's Peace be with you all!
Merry Christmas.
WarrenWarrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720528359843578475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7806780.post-90903864221055468842007-11-30T21:54:00.000-06:002007-11-30T23:00:12.539-06:00Do you still beat your wife?The so-called CNN/YouTube Republican candidate "debate" on Wednesday night devolved into another Democrat dirty campaign opportunity.
We really can't expect any better from the likes of Anderson Cooper and CNN. (No wonder so many people call it the Clinton News Network.)
For those of you unfamiliar with the supposed format; questions were to be submitted in the YouTube Format then CNN was Supposed to pick relevant questions for the candidates from "real people". People who were impartial questioners or analysts about substantive issues.
Of those "impartial" people and analysts who represented themselves as "undecided independents":
Brig. Gen. Keith Kerr is a member of Hillary Clinton's steering committee and a gay rights activist and was flown into the "debate" at the behest of CNN.
A young woman named “Journey” questioned the candidates on abortion. On her blog ,she declares herself a John Edwards supporter. Post debate, she immediately posted a video wearing her John Edwards ‘08 T-shirt.
David Cercone of Florida asked a question seemingly on behalf of the Log Cabin Republicans. He had declared his support for Obama on an Obama ‘08 campaign blog back in July.
LeeAnn Anderson asked about lead in toys from China, (with her kids in her lap.) She is a staffer and prominent Pittsburgh union activist for the United Steelworkers, which has endorsed Edwards and is certainly no friend of the Republican Party.
Ted Faturos, who asked about ethanol subsidies, had served as an intern for Rep. Jane Harman D-Calif.
Adam Florzak, who asked about Social Security, quit his job as a welder and is working with Sen. Dick Durbin’s (D-Ill.) staff on the issue.
Mark Strauss, who urged Ron Paul to run as an independent, had publicly supported Gov. Bill Richardson in July.
I've noticed many Democrats see nothing wrong with this, (why am I not surprised.) But this got me to thinking.
If its OK for Democrats and CNN to make a farce of this debate, why can't we ask a few questions of the Democrat candidates?
Peggy Noonan would like to see this question asked:
(Holding up a picture), this is a human fetus. Thank you."
I would like to ask this question:
As you know, a former President was a serial adulterer and lied under oath. He also sought to destroy the reputations of the women he abused under the cover of office and his wife was was instrumental in covering up his misdeeds, indeed had been doing so for years!
What assurances can you give me that this kind of thing will not happen, in your administration, if you are elected president?
Your turn... It’s safer that way.”
[A] recent panel convened at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London [discussed] the topic “Is All Modern Art Left Wing?” The formal discussion was dreary and predictable but things turned livelier when it was opened to the floor, and the question of double standards was raised: “Courageous” artists seemed happy to mock Christianity but curiously reluctant to hurl equivalent jibes at Islam. Grayson Perry, the Turner Prize-winning transvestite artist who looks very fetching in his little Disney-princess frocks, reveals that he self-censors when it comes to Muslims because “I don’t want my throat cut.”
But that doesn’t entirely explain it, does it? Earlier this year, Channel 4 in London broadcast a documentary called Undercover Mosque in which various imams up and down the land were caught on tape urging men to beat their wives and toss homosexuals off cliffs. Viewers reported some of the statements to the local constabulary. The West Midlands police then decided to investigate not the fire-breathing clerics but the TV producers. As the coppers saw it, insofar as any “hate crime” had been perpetrated, it lay not in the urgings and injunctions of the imams but in a TV production so culturally insensitive as to reveal the imams’ views to the general public. As The Spectator’s James Forsyth put it, “The reaction of West Midlands police revealed a mindset that views the exposure of a problem as more of a problem than the problem itself.”
Exactly. Did you see the latest remake of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers? It sank without trace a couple of months back and not just because it had Nicole Kidman in the lead. The new version relocates the story from small-town America to Washington, and sees it as a metaphor for power: cue endless references to Iraq and glimpses of Bush on the TV screens. Yet Bodysnatchers isn’t about power so much as a seductive conformity. That’s what the West Midlands police were attempting to enforce with Channel 4, and what the Rotterdam police managed to enforce rather more successfully when they destroyed a mural created to express disgust at van Gogh’s murder. Chris Ripke’s painting showed an angel and bore the words “Thou Shalt Not Kill.” But his studio is next to a mosque, and the imam complained that the mural was “racist,” so the cops showed up, destroyed it, arrested the TV crew filming it, and wiped their tape. A “tolerant” society cannot tolerate any assaults on its most cherished myths.
The dogma of multiculturalism holds that all cultures are equal, except Western culture, which (unlike every other society on the planet) has a history of oppression and war is therefore worse. All religions are equal, except Christianity, which informed the beliefs of the capitalist bloodsuckers who founded America and is therefore worse. All races are equal, except Caucasians, who long ago went into business with black slave traders in Africa, and therefore they are worse. The genders, too, are equal, except for those paternalistic males, who with their testosterone and aggression have made this planet a polluted living hell, and therefore they are worse.
Once you understand this, the Multicultural Pyramid of Oppression, you can begin to understand how to turn to your advantage certain circumstances that are beyond your control: such as where you were born, the type of genitalia you were born with, into what race you were born, and the religion of your parents. You see, the fewer things you have in common with The Oppressors, the more you can cast yourself as The Victim. And as The Victim, you are virtuous, so there are certain things you can get away with that others can’t: like actually oppressing people.
According to the rules of Multicultural Hierarchy, oppression can be excused if the oppressor comes from a more exotic group—to Western eyes—than the oppressed. If a documentary filmmaker were slaughtered in broad daylight for making a film about domestic violence among, say, Christian evangelists in the American south, an outcry would rightfully ring out from Hollywood denouncing the violence that’s intended to silence legitimate social commentary. But a documentary filmmaker killed for making a film about violence against women perpetrated in the name of Islam isn’t worth any comment at all from those same folks who are so rarely silent with the rest of their opinions. Identical crimes would have to be interpreted two different ways, because the only variable that matters is the corpse’s placement on the Multicultural Hierarchy relative to that of the murderer.
Consider what happens when you apply this thinking on a societal level: if we convince ourselves that all of the blame for the current state of the world should be placed at the feet of Western civilization, then why would any Westerner think that our civilization is worth fighting for? Or even worth saving? The rules of Multicultural Hierarchy require us to preemptively surrender, because any crime committed against us by a more worthy Victim is somehow deserved. And if we deserve it, then fighting against what we deserve amounts to fighting the administration of justice.
Many times in the years following the September 11th attacks, I’ve heard earnest-sounding commentators and social critics bring up “root causes” of September 11th—we are invariably the root of all causes, it would seem—and suggest that somehow, “we deserved it.”
Well, if we deserved it then—and still do now—then what business do we have defending ourselves? Who are we to stand in the way of justice?
People will rarely admit they favor surrender. But if we buy in to the politically correct thinking of multiculturalism, that’s exactly where we’ll end up.
Evan Coyne Maloney is a political commentator based in New York City. It only has to be warm enough to mix with your flour easily, (add the flour now and this is the secret), stir into a smooth paste with absolutely no flour lumps, not even small ones.
Now add your liquid, turn your heat to high and continuously stir the mixture until it comes to a boil.
The thickness of the sauce is dependent on the amount of flour added to the mixture. Its necessary to experiment a little to get the thickness you prefer.
Now some recipes built from the basic mixture.
######
Warren's, sweet and sour, salad dressing, (also makes a good coleslaw dressing or dressing for German potato salad.)
Ingredients:
1/2 pound hickory smoked bacon
1 cup water
1 cup "apple cider" vinegar (necessary for flavor)
2 tbsp. flour
2 tbsp. sugar (may substitute Splenda brand sweetener)
Makes 2 cups of a slightly brown salad dressing.
Prepare salad ingredients before hand. I prefer leaf lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and sweet onions.
Fry bacon crispy and remove from pan, saving drippings. When bacon cools, crumble and set aside. (I usually cook all of this in one large cast Iron skillet to save on cleanup.)
When drippings cool, add flour and sugar then stir into a "smooth" paste. Add remaining ingredients, (water, vinegar and bacon crumbs), increase heat to high and stir continuously until mixture comes to a boil. Allow to set for one minute then pour mixture over salad ingredients, toss salad and serve warm.
####
Quick and easy chicken gravy.
My family likes this more than turkey gravy at Thanksgiving.
Ingredients:
3 chicken bullion cubes
3 cups canned chicken broth
3 rounded tbsp. flour (if you like thin gravy, don't round)
3 tbsp cooking oil, (shortening, butter, etc.)
Makes three cups of light yellow, somewhat salty, gravy.
Warm oil in saucepan or skillet.
Add flour and stir into "smooth" paste.
Add the rest of the ingredients, increase the heat to high and stir continuously until it comes to a boil.
Cover and turn off heat, stir before serving.
####
Warren's breakfast "milk" gravy. (I've also heard it called "sawmill gravy".)
4 tbsp bacon or sausage drippings
(You may also add sausage pieces to the gravy to make "sausage gravy".)
5 tbsp flour
3 cups milk
1 tsp coarse black pepper (or pepper to taste)
Makes 3 cups medium thick milk gravy.
Warm drippings in saucepan or skillet.
Add flour and stir into "smooth" paste.
Add the rest of the ingredients, increase the heat to high and stir continuously until it comes to a boil.
Turn off heat leave covered on stove, stir before serving
All of these recipes many be doubled or halved and I do so quite frequently. The thickness of each sauce is determined by the ratio of flour to the liquid ingredients, so with a little experimentation, you may thicken or thin them to your taste.Warrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720528359843578475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7806780.post-1380563172344721622007-08-24T06:24:00.000-05:002007-09-09T23:08:43.516-05:00Homeland InsecurityThis mess has been pending for some time. No, because we're finding them and we're identifying them and we've got watch lists and we're keeping them at bay."
How? With a fence? With added border security? With support for our border guards? Or with SPP, NAU, NAFTA Superhighway? Sure, Wilbur, I've got some swamp land to go with that!
But, he said, "There are numerous situations where people are alive today because we caught them (terrorists)."
Intelligence officials say the numbers and details of such situations are classified, but McConnell pointed as an example to Mahmoud Youssef Kourani, who entered the United States through Tijuana, Mexico, in 2001, and later pleaded guilty to helping raise money for Hezbollah, which has been designated by the U.S. government as a terrorist organization.
The goal, McConnell said, is for terrorists to gain admittance to the United States, and then produce "mass casualties."
"You've got committed leadership. You've got a place to train. They've got trainers, and they've got recruits," McConnell told the newspaper. "The key now is getting recruits in. So if your key is getting recruits in, how would you do that?"
McConnell's office did reveal some numbers, during fiscal 2006, there were 14 Iraqi nationals caught trying to enter the U.S. illegally, while so far in 2007, that number is 16.
How much are you willing to bet that those are the stupid ones?
"Now some we caught, some we didn't," McConnell told the newspaper. "The ones that get in – what are they going to do? They're going to write home. So it's not rocket science; word will move around."
Derrrrr...
Also revealed was that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection intercepted 60 Iraqis crossing the nation's southwestern border in 2006 who were seeking asylum in the U.S., while that number so far in 2007 is 178.
The Times report said a U.S. intelligence analyst said there's been evidence that human smugglers, or coyotes, are telling Iraqis to ask for amnesty if they are caught.
The typical scenario is this: Forged documents are used to get an Iraqi into a country in South or Central America. Since travel from country to country is allowed without vises in many locations there, they work their way north to the U.S. border.
McConnell told the newspaper the numbers are classified, but there have been a relatively small number of people with known links to terrorist groups who have been caught at that point.
I want to know how many are suspected, does anyone REALLY care, AND WHERE IS OUR PROMISED FENCE? Hmmm?
Kourani, for example, apparently paid a Mexican Consulate official in Lebanon $3,000 for a Mexican visa and then was smuggled into the United States in the trunk of a car.
Mexico is corrupt people, CORRUPT, without morals, without care except getting more, more, more! The "Big Red One", had returned stateside from Vietnam as part of a de-escalation and for many solders who had served their tour in Vietnam, it became their next duty station.
I never heard so much bullshit in my life, the same stories with different players, over and over again, You could roll your eyes all you wanted but there was an unspoken rule; it was considered bad form to call bullshit on another soldiers war stories.
There were three I heard most often:
Taking Viet Cong up in helicopters and pitching them out if they didn't talk.
Dropping 100 pound sacks of rice on a villager and killing him by getting him to "catch" the bag of rice.
The Vietnamese barber that worked on a, (air base, naval base, Marine base, Army base), that was actually a Viet Cong spy, who was killed trying to infiltrate and blow up the base the night after they had given, (said, teller of story), a shave with a straight razor that same day.
Now, I really must tell you, that last story gave me a chill, (every time I heard it). Almost as much as the time my girl friend made me take her home from lovers lane after we heard on the radio that an insane killer with one arm escaped from the State Hospital. I really freaked out when I found the hook stuck in the car door!
OK, so I didn't believe the last story. It was only because of all the accounts of the other two stories that I heard from those that had either did it, saw it or knew someone that had. I mean its ridiculous! How many Vietnamese/Viet Cong/Spy's were there and how did they keep from being buried under hundreds of thousands of their Viet Cong comrades and millions of tons of rice that were throw from helicopters?
Anyway, over the years and even as a young man, I developed what I call a BS filter. A very good one, the Lord knows I heard enough of it from my relatives growing up.
At the beginning of August, "The New Republic" published at story by a "Scott Thomas" (Scott Thomas Beauchamp), that contained three pieces of obvious BS recounting tales meant to show how "war dehumanizes people". In other words, more anti-war propaganda.
The stories recounted:
A woman whose face was disfigured by an IED, either an ally of the US or a contractor, who was taunted in a mess hall because of her disfigurement, and then fled the mess hall in tears.
Soldiers who were digging up the remains of children in what was clearly represented as a Saddam era, mass grave, and one soldier takes the skull cap of a child, (with hair and rotting flesh still attached), and wears it as a cap under his helmet the whole day.
A driver of a Bradley fighting vehicle, (very much like the APCs they replaced and I used to drive), who constantly is swerving to run down dogs, vendors stands, etc.
The New Republic's Editors, have released several statements backing PVT Beauchamp's fairytale even though Beauchamp has stated that the first incident with the woman happened in Kuwait before he was stationed in Iraq, (I am firmly of the opinion that none of them happened!) I know BS when I hear it.
The New Republic seeks to protect its journalistic integrity.
Don't worry boys, you never had any!
Go Here for a rundown of the Scott Beauchamp story.Warrenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720528359843578475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7806780.post-58809510445780731512007-08-10T10:36:00.000-05:002007-08-10T10:51:20.873-05:00BIBLE SAVES SOLDIER!
of course it was not this one in particular, but "PFC Brendan Schweigart was helping to retrieve a tank in Iraq when he felt as if he had been hit with a sledge hammer.
It was deadly fire from an enemy sniper."
for the rest of the story.
we purchased these little bibles for our children a few years ago and they've been so proud to carry them and read the pages loose from the binding and they've since graduated to larger study bibles wanting to preserve these special bibles the military carries.
proof: the WORD OF G-D still saves!nancnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7806780.post-19556461796204569522007-08-06T08:12:00.000-05:002007-08-06T08:18:32.793-05:00WHERE MAY YOU CARRY UR CCW?
found this little tidbit of important information at alabama mt. man's site.
if you're wondering where you can carry, check it out.nancnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7806780.post-42277791880539526842007-08-01T21:14:00.000-05:002007-08-01T21:17:13.718-05:00Spirit of America (SoA) monthly update.
“Dear Blog Community,
Welcome to the first Spirit of America (SoA) monthly update. We can help facilitate their outreach to these civilians. Such humanitarian aid is vital to advance the cause of freedom, democracy and peace.
Quite often our military personnel have requests for goods like school and medical supplies, sewing machines, hand tools, watches, water barrels, clothing, soccer gear and toys. Since 2001 we have successfully completed many of these supply projects and urge our servicemen and women to contact us to see if we can help them make a difference.
Email Us
SPECIAL IRAQI SCHOOL PROJECT
Would you say that four years is a long time? It’s a fair chunk of change, but it’s hardly an extreme amount of time unless it is spent under extreme circumstances. In the case of Staff Sergeant (SSG) Steven Gardner you can say that he has experienced more in the last four years than most people have in their entire lifetimes.
SSG Gardner has served his country in war torn Iraq since April 2003!!! For almost the entire conflict that has reshaped our times he has been deployed in many different provinces of the country. Throughout this time SSG Gardner witnessed how a brutal insurgency has victimized the Iraqi people.
In order to give the Iraqis an alternative message of hope SoA is undertaking a special project with SSG Gardner to help a local school in the northern Iraqi city of Habur Gate. This endeavor is being conducted in the true spirit of our service men and women. It is something that is not fully appreciated by the general public. Consider the fact that last year 807 schools serving 322,800 students nationwide were completed using American funding and supervised by our military forces. In addition projects like “The America-Iraq School Partners Program” and many others have been completed by SoA to bolster what our troops have accomplished. Despite all of that hard work, this new project is made special by some very unique circumstances.
While many of the military personnel that work on humanitarian relief projects with SoA are very enthusiastic about these efforts, few can say that they have been serving continuously in Iraq for so long. As much as we are concerned about how our soldiers and their families will have to endure extended tours as much as 15 months long, SSG Gardner won’t be going home to his family until 2008. That will make his tour of duty five years long!!! And as if that isn’t enough, he wants to contribute even more to the people of Iraq.
“All of this started because of what I have seen and been through. I want to leave here knowing I came, I fought and I made a difference in someone’s life here. This area is safe or reasonably so. The people are good.”
“The kids are great and the teaching staff try and make do with what they have but with funds and materials not available, they can only do so much. The school is set-up so that the kids attend from middle school through high school. The blackboards are a wreck. No fans or cooling systems in the classrooms. No computers. No sports equipment. There are no sports uniforms (they take a lot of pride in soccer). No art supplies to speak of. Basically, they need an overhaul.”
There can be no better example of the quality of our men and women serving in Iraq than SSG Gardner. SoA is proud to support such an American patriot and friend to the Iraqi people. He doesn’t ask for glory or any form of undue attention, he only desires to help those in need.
Please visit our project page to learn more.
QUICK RESPONSE TO AFGHAN FARMERS REQUEST
WOW!!! Due to your overwhelming show of support, this project is already well underway. Here is the Sergeant Major’s response when told that we had raised $13k in the first five hours:
“I didn’t expect the project to be such a big hit. Poppy fields stretch for miles. The Taliban use poppy grown in Afghanistan to generate funding for their activities...
...This region is where saffron originally came from, before cultivation spread to Europe. Right now Afghanistan’s neighbor in the west, Iran, grows the largest quantities of saffron, that it exports globally as the world’s most expensive spice by weight...
...I think that if it were more available, saffron would be grown here in greater quantities, taking cash away from the Taliban.”
Please visit our project page to learn more.
WOMEN’S BURN UNIT & MATERNITY
After the rule of the Taliban and decades of war, Afghanistan’s healthcare system has been neglected. Equipment is in short supply and hospitals are in disrepair. Army Colonel Wendell Hickman in cooperation with attorney Melinda Lord seeks your help in improving conditions for at least one community - Herat, Afghanistan.
Nearly two-thirds of the Afghan population is without access to basic health-care facilities. Women and children are especially affected as Afghanistan has one of the word’s highest maternal and child mortality rates. Some studies estimate that an Afghan woman dies giving birth every 30 minutes. In addition, women are often burn victims either at the hands of angry relatives or self-inflicted as a protest against harsh circumstances.
The 400-bed Herat Hospital is the only non-military hospital in this entire province in Western Afghanistan. Supply needs are critical for the Burn Unit where cream, bandages and IV saline are the only solace available for patients, some of whom are tragic victims of the difficult intentional burnings.
Your support of this project will enable SoA to contribute critical supplies to the Herat Burn Center, Gozahra Clinic and similiar facilities throughout Western Afghanistan. In addition to the items listed above which SoA will provide with your help, we will partner with Orchard International in shipping an ocean container of supplies donated specifically for Herat Hospital including incubators, baby warmers, and vitamins.
A very sparse Delivery Room in Herat
You can visit our project page to learn more.
PLEASE ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO JOIN OUR MAILING LIST
Our recent drive for signups to our mailing list only netted about 65 new subscribers. The War on Terror is beginning to pick up steam and our country has finally been able to get out the word due to the contributions of the blogger community. Bloggers like Michael Yon, Bill Roggio and Michael Totten are bringing America’s side of the story directly to the people. In the past when we won important victories like the capture of Saddam Hussein, the conclusion of successful elections, the recapture of Fallujah and many others - the significance was lost on the general public because of the lack of awareness about what is really going on.
That ignorance has led some Americans to remain unaware that our troops do more than just kill the enemy. They spend much of their time building relationships with Iraqi communities, assisting them to defend themselves, coordinating reconstruction projects and distributing humanitarian aid.
Now that we have found our voice it is time to step up our efforts. The blogger community has done a great job so lets keep up the good work.
