The byproduct of that is stronger lyricism: unlike Hiebert's previous worship-centric work, Jubilee isn't just context-less praise thoughts, but a strong case for faith in action, beautifully summarized in this lyric from "Higher Ground": "Plant my feet in Your world so I can live unselfishly/Where possessions are not loved but rather used to love the least, please."

It all makes Jubilee a welcome return for Ten Shekel Shirt. More importantly, it serves as an apropos digest of where Hiebert has been in the last half decade—a sacred ground where more worshippers ought to dare to tread.

cmcentral.com also has posted a review where they also give the CD 3 1/2 stars out of 5. They describe the CD as a "fantastic return". They compare the songs to Vertical Horizon and Switchfoot ...

The theme of freedom pervades this return to form entitled Jubilee. “I’m walking up to your tomb to call your name/To give you a new start/Remove your shame,” sings Hiebert on “Surprised.” It’s an acoustic ebb and flow that yearns like Vertical Horizon’s slower tracks. “You Rescue” continues the lyrical thread with lines like “You will never stop restoring what’s been lost.” All the while, Hiebert makes certain the musicianship matches the lyrics, especially on “You Rescue” whose chorus is immediately memorable.

“Spark” ups the ante and tempo as a solid pop/rock radio tune that includes Hiebert’s falsetto and slight Brit-rock builds. “En Garde” is an album highlight complete with slight street-beat-sampling and a perfectly placed string section. It’s a darker number that grabs your attention immediately. Album closer “It’s Slavery” kick starts the end with a Switchfoot-esque twist.

Also, in case you missed it, be sure to check out the song - by - song run through Lamont gives over on his blog:

http://lamontsongs.blogspot.com/

One more week to go!

- Scott
tag: christian music

 Stumble It!
Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14011437848418448162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7789156.post-12291950004360564422008-08-08T16:12:00.004-04:002008-08-25T15:47:37.483-04:00Song by song through the new Ten Shekel Shirt CD JubileeLamont Hiebert (of Ten Shekel Shirt) takes us through the new CD Jubilee song by song on his blog...

http://lamontsongs.blogspot.com/

The CD will be out on August 19, 2008

- Scott
tag: christian music

 Stumble It!
Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14011437848418448162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7789156.post-51093227715935210902008-08-07T16:30:00.005-04:002008-08-25T15:48:06.961-04:00Chris Tomlin Hello Love CD<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_UuXvlTIIANM/SJtbma7urnI/AAAAAAAAAEw/cimXAveZP7Y/s320/ChrisTomlin_HelloLove.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231876107743964786" />

The new Chris Tomlin CD 'Hello Love' will be released on September 2, 2008.

Over on the Cross Rhythms site in the UK there is an article where Chris gives a song-by-song rundown of the 'Hello Love' album.

For example, about the song "God Almighty" he says ...

My producer, Ed Cash, is one those guys who constantly amazes you with his unending talent. Not only does he do a great job of getting what I have in my head onto the CD, but he is an extremely talented musician, singer and songwriter in his own right. Over the past three records we have enjoyed writing songs together. "God Almighty" was a song that Ed initially sent to me as a chorus and I took it from there. I especially like the bridge on this one and how it expresses a picture of just who we are before this massive, Almighty God. You can sense this awe of God as you sing that refrain. "I hide my eyes with my face to the ground in the presence of your majesty/I clap my hands and lay my crowns in the presence of Your majesty. There is no other response but to fall on our face when we truly get even a glimpse of the holiness of God.

Check out the article for Chris's description of all the new songs.

Enjoy!
- Scott
tag: christian music

 Stumble It!
Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14011437848418448162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7789156.post-42892685205843749052008-08-06T11:12:00.004-04:002008-08-25T15:48:19.600-04:00Free Jars of Clay MP3 download<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UuXvlTIIANM/SJnASZw5FpI/AAAAAAAAAEk/i8HGO40WGiM/s320/JarsCloserEPcover.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5231423864553674386" />

Jars of Clay has released an EP to hold us over until thier new full-length CD comes out next year...

From the Jars website :

We're proud to announce the release of our new EP "Closer!"

Here's the scoop: 3 new songs - including the full track of the recently released as a sneak peak "Closer." And for a band already as big as they are, that’s an exciting proposition.

they were able to get big time mixer Brendan O'Brien :

“What was funny with this record is that we got everything we could have wanted,” says Anderson. “We’ve learned that the limitations that people feel for Christian music are self-imposed. We can prevent our own progression. If we could just be bold enough to go for what we really want, we might actually get it. We’ve learned this over the years. We wanted Brendan O’Brien [Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Train] to mix our albums for years, and we were told that it couldn’t happen. So finally, I just picked up the phone, called him myself and he said, ‘Oh yeah, I love the band. I’d love to do it.’ Along the way, people were just assuming he wouldn’t do it."

On working with Third Day and Chris Daughtry, Producer Howard Benson [ well-known for his work with Hoobastank, Daughtry, P.O.D. and Flyleaf ] says :

Benson says he wanted to work with Third Day because of the quality of Powell’s voice. “[The person] who really turned me on to Mac was Chris Daughtry,” Benson says. “I think Chris has one of the best voices in rock’n’roll right now and he kept telling me how great Mac was. We have of course honoured this request and made a decision together that now is the time to end this chapter of our lives.

We will continue to play and be excited about our current tours and bookings but will not be adding many more over the coming 17 months..

We are all so deeply grateful to our incredible fans who have sung the songs and allowed Delirious? the privilege of providing the soundtrack to many lives over the years. From the school hall in Littlehampton to the stadiums of the world we have many stories to tell our children’s children. Delirious also would not be what it is without our amazing wives and families, and our gratitude to them is immense. We will now move forward to the next part of our lives where new challenges unfold and greater stories will be written.

We want to make it absolutely clear that although this decision has been extremely painful and difficult, we are still great friends and our respect for each other is unquestionable. We love playing in this band together and know that even though 2009 will bring an end to this current journey, there will be more adventures together in years to come.

We always used to say that we were ‘taking it wherever it goes’. The music ended up going further and deeper than we could ever have dreamed, yet we are now at a point where our creative futures will spread out and take on different journeys.

Thanks again for believing in us through all these years. We believe the best is yet to come.

Jon, Martin, Paul, Stu G and Tim

In case you are not familiar with Delirious? here is a list of songs they wrote:

I Could Sing of Your Love Forever
Majesty (Here I Am)
Lord, You Have My Heart
Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble?
Shout to the North
Deeper
History Maker

just to name a few.

- Scott
tag: christian music

 Stumble It!
Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14011437848418448162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7789156.post-26414658519740480242008-06-25T11:08:00.004-04:002008-08-25T15:57:49.508-04:00New Chris Tomlin single Jesus Messiah is outChris Tomlin is set to release a new studio CD on September 2, 2008 and has just released the single "Jesus Messiah" on iTunes.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_UuXvlTIIANM/SGJfiYNW0rI/AAAAAAAAADk/QXxqKIAgXtc/s400/ChrisTomlin_HelloLove.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5215836362667119282" />

According to EMI CMG, the single is the most added multi-format song in christian radio history.

Chris himself says of the new single and CD:

We need to introduce ourselves to love again.

With each new record, I continue to strive to create songs that will help people voice their worship to God. I hold this as a great responsibility when I begin to think about what the overall recording will look like. Worship is a massive word with a very broad scope, but in the end, it is very simple. It is love! It's our response in love to our great God who loved us first. As well, it's our love for others.

Hopefully these songs will renew in some way or stir up again your love for God and His people.

It¹s pretty exciting these days to see the Church awaken to the portion of it¹s calling where it serves the "least of these," where we carry those less fortunate than ourselves not just in a special place in our hearts, but in our finances, our energy, our life. And the motive and heart behind all of it is love. That's it. More simply put, worship is "love with legs." It's on the move! It's not just words and melody.

As Paul says so well in 1 Cor. 13:13

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Chris Tomlin

Some industry buzz about it:

“Chris Tomlin strikes gold again in his beautiful ballad ‘Jesus Messiah.’ Chris seems unable to pen a bad or even mediocre song. It is simply always spectacular.” –Jon Rivers, music director KLOVE Radio Network

“Chris never disappoints. ‘Jesus Messiah’ is another example of his deep songs that are easy to sing and still keep the focus on the One who deserves the glory.” –Jim Beeler, music director, KSBJ-FM

“I knew Chris Tomlin’s new song, ‘Jesus Messiah’ was going to be an ‘add,’ but I’ve run out of superlatives. It surpassed all our expectations; wow!” –Scott Valentine, program director, KCMS-FM

“Tomlin does it again! It’s honest. It’s sincere. It connects. It’s worship not just for Sundays, but for life lived every day. It’s here, and will be for years to come!” –Chris Lemke, GM/PD WCSG-FM

“I am not sure how Chris keeps doing it, but once again we have a song that is going to be huge! This one is easily on the short list for song of the year already.” –Jeff Cruz, assistant program director, WPOZ-FM

Grant Hubbard, vice president of national promotion for EMI CMG Label Group adds, “Chris Tomlin has once again delivered a song that hits the bull’s eye of radio’s target. 97 out-of-the-box adds shows the belief and trust that radio has for Chris.”

President and CEO of EMI CMG, Bill Hearn also comments, “Chris Tomlin’s songs continue to have a profound effect on culture through the church worldwide and radio’s overwhelming response to ‘Jesus Messiah’ is a powerful indication that this new song will also have tremendous impact. All of us at EMI CMG and sixstepsrecords are honored to play a role in this history making event and look forward to what we believe will be one of the biggest albums of the year in all of music.”

- Scott
tag: christian music

 Stumble It!
Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14011437848418448162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7789156.post-7280310170722076722008-06-05T13:02:00.002-04:002008-08-21T15:45:41.267-04:00Lot's of new SuperChic[k]<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_UuXvlTIIANM/SEga839UVII/AAAAAAAAADE/LHoSXkPnXgI/s400/superchick_rwyg.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5208442602169586818" />
It has been a while, but Inpop Records and SuperChic[k] have a number of promotions going on for their new record "rock what you got".

there is a free download available, and a contest to win a trip to see SuperChic[k] live, including a hotel and car for the night and dinner with the band.

All this is to promote their new CD, the first in three years, being released on June 24th. Apparently he was key to their sound—Sunday! is the best album by Tree63 since their 2000 debut, if not their best yet."

Cool!
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_UuXvlTIIANM/Rv1XNKBrqGI/AAAAAAAAAB4/Gxcq5iJk9bg/s400/tree63JohnEllisGuitar.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5115340635304077410" />
Another great review comes from Kevan Breitinger who says
"South African rockers Tree63 may be celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, but if fifth album "Sunday!" is any indication, they may have just hit their stride."

and

"Frontman John Ellis has long strained against the constraints of the ‘Christian music’ label, but the new project positively oozes freedom. They had played a few months ago in the 3 Sunday services and blew everyone away, so they had a lot to live up to, and they did!

They played a few songs from their new cd - Whatever Befall, which just came out this month. You can check out a few new tunes from it on their myspace page.

Their home page isn't updated for the new CD yet, other than to say it is out (in the news section) but I suspect it will be updated soon enough. The important thing is that they sound great on their new CD. After seeing them live a few months about and buying their CD, I was disappointed that the CD had drums, bass, etc. They had played with just acoustic guitars, piano, very sparse percussion, and of course their amazing harmonies. The "full band" sound on the CD was unexpected.

Last night they once again played with just piano, acoustic guitar, and even sparser percussion, and let their voices ring out loud and clear. Their harmonies are beautiful.

The new CD is once again a "full band" style, but their harmonies and voices are mixed better and it just sounds better. I like the new CD alot.

I think you will too! Oh - I've meant to and wanted to, I just haven't. So sue me!

I started going to a new church in January of this year. It is great - Bethany Church in Greenland, NH. Check it out some time! I am getting psyched to go see the Passion Road there, which starts Thursday. You should really go!

I auditioned for the praise band there and am currently practicing with them, working towards playing during worship later this spring or summer.

That's it for now.Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14011437848418448162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7789156.post-1134421288106304422005-12-12T15:58:00.000-05:002005-12-12T16:01:28.120-05:00Christmas music on the charts this weekSeveral Christmas songs make the top 10 on the Billboard chart this week...

Billboard Hot Christian Adult Contemporary top 10:

1 Casting Crowns - Lifesong
2 Third Day - Cry OUt To Jesus
3 Mercy Me - Joseph's Lullaby
4 Jeremy Camp - This Man
5 Mark Schultz - I Am
6 Chris Tomlin - Angels We Have Heard On High
7 MercyMe - In The Blink Of An Eye
8 Steven Curtis Chapman - All I Really Want
9 Mark Schultz - The First Noel
10 Casting Crowns - Away In A Manger

Radio and Records Christian AC top 10:

1 Casting Crowns - Lifesong
2 Third Day - Cry Out To Jesus
3 Jeremy Camp - This Man
4 Mark Schultz - I Am
5 MercyMe - In The Blink Of An Eye
6 Superchick - We Live
7 Big Daddy Weave - Just The Way I Am
8 Chris Tomlin - Holy Is The Lord
9 David Crowder Band - Here Is Our King
10 Matthew West - Next Thing You Know

- Scott
tag: christian music
Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14011437848418448162noreply@blogger.com
