Kevin and I went to see 2012 yesterday, and I actually really enjoyed it! It requires total suspension of disbelief, but it's a pretty decent flick. (And thankfully the movie is so loud that none of the other patrons will hear you laughing at how ridiculous some of the scenes are!)

Anyway here's a list of Things One Should Know to Prepare for the End of the World:

Limos and RVs have awesome pick-up, so if you anticipate having to drive away from some mass destruction, those are the best vehicles to choose.

Mass-issued clothes will only come in black, white, and gray, so if you look best in blues and greens or any sort of color, take care to pack those in your suitcase. Otherwise, it might be a long time til civilization redevelops itself enough to create clothing dyes. You can still be fashion-forward, even in times of crisis!

If earthquakes start turning your life upside down, always wear a pair of comfortable running shoes! You never know when you might have to make a break for it. Also, wear pants.

Apparently time will start over at Day One should anyone survive the Destruction of the World, so make sure to take a list of your new month and day names. You could have a great shot at getting a month named after you! (Stansfiember? Blairuary? Muly? You never know!)

Last night Kevin and I went to dinner at the home of one of my coworkers and her husband. We had a tasty pork tenderloin with some roasted carrots and some vinegared green beans and THE most delicious pecan-walnut-apple pie! I'll definitely have to get the recipe from him because it was amazing.

But today, I've got a pretty full agenda. Kevin wants to go see 2012, so I am going to indulge him and we're going to go to a matinee. (Actually, after reading some of the reviews, I want to see it because I have to see just how ridiculous this movie can be!) Jen might be joining us, and then I might rope her into helping me make party invites and finish my holiday cards. AND I want to try my family fudge recipe.

We also want to try to squeeze in a trip to the library, which we'll have to do today, as the library system has had to change their hours due to budget cuts. That means no more lazy Sunday library trips, at least for the forseeable future :(

Anyway, hopefully the next time I report I will have good things to say about movies/crafts/my cooking skills. Fingers crossed!

I have a day of running around like a crazy person and working at both of my jobs (8:30-6:00 and 6:00 to 9:30! Yay!), so I just wanted to acknowledge the day with a post. Even if it's stupid, it still counts!

I went to IKEA today (sorry Bridget, I missed your call!) and didn't find much, which was surprising. Usually when I go to IKEA I can fill a whole cart full of just stuff! Today, I got two rolly crate things and a serving bowl. Whoopdeedoo.

But I did come to the conclusion that I'm going to do the baked good thing for Christmas. I thought about the bath stuff, but that'll be too much of an investment right now. Plus, I like baking!

I am reeeeeeeeeeeeally terribly dissatisfied at my job. I haven't figured out my next step, but it definitely can't involve staying where I am. Coming home from work and drinking isn't the best way to deal with stress, nor can I afford it.

For lack of anything better to do on a Saturday morning, I am window shopping. As in, I have many, many internet windows open with such cute clothes and shoes that I would like to own!

Lucky for you, it's NaBloPoMo, so you get to see what I am ogling!

These shoes: pointy-toed, kitten heel, with a BOW! A sexy black shoe, but it's also available in Gold Royal Satin and Royal Silver. Oooh!

And there's no way I'd be able to wear these shoes, but they are too awesome! Turquoise, peep-toe, super cute jewel accent on the toe!

What a great dress! It's so chic and sassy. I wonder if it's something I'd be comfortable in at work?

I have absolutely nowhere I'd wear this one, but I love it anyway!

I'm also looking for a "grown-up" purse, but I don't know how to find one. I'd like a bag that's going to last a long time without falling apart, but I don't want something that's got the designer plastered all over the front (Coach, I'm looking at you!). Just a basic leather bag. Suggestions on where/how to find one?

I went out after work tonight with one of my coworkers who had been sitting at the bar since 2:30 this afternoon. It was...an interesting experience, to say the least. But on the plus side, one of my customers was there and he bought me a drink from across the bar to thank me for everything that I've done for him. Score!

But then I sat there for two more hours while my coworker's friends showed up and at dinner, which wasn't the most exciting thing, but I did get a free slice of chocolate minty cake!

If you were to receive a gift basket of homemade goodies, what are some things you'd like to get? Sweets, baked goods, vanilla, infused vodkas, etc.

I'm trying to figure out my "miscellaneous gifts for people who might not get a real gift from me" theme. Since I've been doing so much experimental cooking this year, I thought I'd try to go for something cookery, but I'm not sure what to do.

Or, would you prefer bath goodies? I got the Martha Stewart Living from last December which has lots of great ideas, but I don't know which would be the best way to go.

Classic Rock Rant

Okay, now that I've gotten that rant off my chest, let's write something exciting!

....thinking of something exciting to write....

Oh! (This might turn into another mini-rant.) At work, I listen to what the station calls "classic rock." I really enjoy this station because it's different from most workday stations that only play Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. The station isn't all strictly classic rock as Kevin would define it; they definitely have lots of 80s hair band awesomeness (including one of my favorite songs EVER -- "Photograph" by Def Leppard!), but recently, they've crossed the line.

I'm sorry, but Counting Crows and the Wallflowers are NOT classic rock! Nor will they ever be classic rock! Just because a song is 15 years old doesn't mean it should go on the classic rock radio station. Gah!

Also, Kristin, your hair is super cute :) I might have to get you some pixie wings for Christmas!

So, I was just looking at someone's wedding pictures on Facebook, and it reeaaaaaaaaaallly irritates me when EVERY SINGLE PICTURE has that weird fish-bowl effect where the faces are all zoomed in and the edges are curved. I hope you know what I mean, because I can't figure out how else to describe it. Anyway, I think the pictures look kind of tacky. It's your wedding, not a fashion catalog. And just because your photographer CAN use photoshop, doesn't mean he should. Or, at least, don't use it on every picture.

NaBloPoMo, Day 1!

Happy November! Today is the start of National Blog Posting Month, so those of you that still occasionally check my blog are in for a treat! Posts for thirty consecutive days, how does that sound?

I'd also like to try to take a picture a day and post it as well, but I don't know how easily that will work. I'll give it a go and we'll see how long that lasts.

I've decided today that I need to go Christmas browsing to figure out what everyone's getting for the holidays. My checking account will not allow me to buy everything at once, and my own psyche renders me incapable of saving, so little by little it must be!

And I might bake some more bread today. Yesterday I baked two delicious loaves of white bread, one for home, and one to take to Jen's house for dinner. The second loaf turned out much better than the first, but I don't know if it's because of the yeast (which was decidedly foamier for the second batch of dough), or my kneading, or what. We'll find out, though!

We're celebrating the birthday of one of my coworkers on Friday, and I volunteered to bake the cake. She requested either a German Chocolate cake, or Funfetti. Now, I'm not one to bake a cake from a box (brownies are another story!), so I was looking for from-scratch recipes for both.

Have you ever searched for scratch German Chocolate cake recipes? Those things have like 18 ingredients and many, many steps! However, I might try to make this one over the weekend. That, or banana pudding.

Thankfully for my sanity, I found cakespy's recipe for homemade funfetti! Not nearly as complicated, and sprinkles! Who doesn't love sprinkles?!

I went to the movies by myself today and saw "Julie and Julia" - it was great! I enjoyed the Julia Child scenes immensely... so much, that I went out and bought "My Life in France" (Julia's autobiography) so that I could learn more about her!

The bedding at Holiday Inn Express is pretty awesome. It's very soft and comfortable! And you can buy it online! Actually, pretty much anything in our hotel room can be purchased online. Even the toiletries, which (according to Kevin), smell just like the cinnamon rolls at the breakfast buffet (also available for purchase)!

Ben and Jerry's S'mores ice cream? Kinda disappointing. I'd buy Willie Nelson's Peach Cobbler (because it's actually really good!) before getting this one again. My favorite flavors are New York Super Fudge Chunk or Everything but the Kitchen Sink. Mmm!

Also, Mike's Special Edition Hard Pink Lemonade is mighty tasty as well!

I'm looking for a new job. Things are...tolerable right now, but there's a storm brewing on the horizon. I'm not sure how bad it might get, but at this point, I am not convinced that I want to find out.
