Home security is a very important thing to remember year round, but there are some things you need to know that are particular to summertime. In the summertime, homeowners begin to relax a little bit and my be a little more lax on their home security.

Scary and Strange Break-In but Saved by Home Security System

I read about a very scary home invasion today on the web and I thought I would share it. A woman was held at gunpoint in the entry room of her home in an apparent burglary.

The woman reported that the men, at least one of whom was armed with a gun, were dressed in disguises that appeared to be a mixture of a mime and the Blues Brothers (the comedy act by John Belushi.) They wore white facepaint and fedoras. That sounds pretty scary.

She was held at gunpoint, but when her home security alarm was triggered the men left the scene. She was saved by the bell and nothing was stolen, but most importantly the woman was not injured. This is proof that home security systems can work!!!

Holiday Home Security - Some Security Ideas to Keep in Mind

Home Security may be one of the last things on your mind during the holidays, but even if you live in a very safe neighborhood, many criminals use this time of "goodwill" to take advantage of people.

This is just a reminder to keep your eyes out for the little things you may do differently this time of year. Criminals and thieves know that there may be expensive gifts inside your home. They know that you may be out of town on vacation during Christmas or Thanksgiving.

They know that you may not be thinking too much about your home security. They also know that you probably don't have a security camera system set up around your home.

Make sure to lock garage doors, keep your windows closed, and be sure to lock all doors. Furthermore, having some motion detecting lights around your property may be a good way to eliminate hiding places. Another good way to eliminate the dark "unsecure" areas around your home is by keeping bushes and trees nicely trimmed.

One thing that can be a danger zone is if you string lights up on your home during the holidays and leave windows partially open to feed the wire through. Make sure not to do this. Try to find another way to do it. Even a crack in a window can be used to gain entry into your home.
