tomorrow will be a "Hands On" day!

Yup, mr goh and I have officially taken leave!!! Yippee yeah yeah!

I have decided that we should do some painting (i think the kitty paper model has been the real kick-start to all things). And since lately i have been so inspired ; MOTIvated by vietnamese artists during my trip up to Ho Chi Minh, i felt so strongly to do some! I want so much so much to do some arty stuff NOW!

Havent felt this in my old bones for quite awhile.

Above is my own personal collage of inspiration from the reknown Post-impressionist artist Van Gogh (beautiful swirls of colour here in The Starry Night) to Viet-inspired pieces. All terribly colourful, and dabbed with boldy-stroked brushes of paint. I shall paste it somewhere on my wall...as a beacon of some sorts.

Cant wait for tomorrow.

How seldom can you find a stall like this!

And its egg noodles are only going for $2.50 a bowl!!! Topped with golden-fried beancurd strips, a huge piece of cuttlefish, fishcake, taopok and a good serving of kangkong veggies. hmm, was there half a hard boiled egg in there? can't rem...anyone ate there can tell me some other time yah??

The soup stock was flavourful enough, although it could have been stewed longer but it bears nostalgic moments for me as I used to eat this when i was young.

Although the taste can never be compared to the past, but I'm not really complaining here as I know how hard this sort of food is to find.

Besides their $2.50-a-bowl of egg noodles, they also serve a bigger portion which includes 3 layered pork, pig skin, more taopok, kangkong, chicken wing that comes in a metal bowl, in a rattan basket. I see many people ordering that too with their bowl of rice. Comes in 3 prices: $4, $6, $8

While Resting....During a shopping spree

The gals were all resting as we began shopping at 10am in the morning and it's almost 3pm now...haha yes we are die hard shoppers! Even beauty sleep sometimes cannot defer us from our retail therapy! So while TY was looking at the mirror, i was trying to get a candid shot but caught by her.

So okay, we all agreed to pose for this special occassion....in XXX shopping mall, in XXX room...

Lego Doggie Accessories

Above are more of our LEGO creations! wj and i spent many nites trying to create new stuff from LEGO blocks. Here's one of my personal favourite - 2nd photo which is a scottish terrier!!! Reminds me of Tintin and his doggie! (use your imagination) hahahaha....

the last 2 were wj's creation as "wedding favours" for your guests at your wedding dinner. Quite pretty and so sweet! we sold a pair at the flea mart too.

wondering what mr goh and i have been up to this weekend after last weekend of bazaar sale???

well, we are paper modelling!

Yup, i found a webby that allows downloading on 3d papercrafts for free! It comes in pdf version and all you have to do is to print it yourself and you are on your way to some paper handicraft work!

There are tons of free paper models in there but of cos kitty here is by far definitely the cutest!!! There's also a Mimmy white (a yellow version of hello kitty here)

This little fella took us one whole afternoon!

Flea Mart

we are setting up our 'store' now....more like mat store. Really! we are so clueless as to how to arrange our stuff!

Next, friends and cousins have arrived to help out! Even our colleagues came down to buy stuff from us!!! heeheh. Soon the hot scorching afternoon sun was shining down on us, and out come the umbrellas! okay i didnt take any pictures here cos we all looked so auntie-like! how embarrassing...so unglam!!!

More photo taking here...all smiling away...of cos, if not how to make business? I keep smiling at my customers ok...from 3pm till 1030pm...and i bend and crawl till i had a backache! So tiring this flea mart business. I was telling wj that this will be the first and last time for me!!!!

Kudos to those who have been doing this for alternate saturdays every month!

THIS IS HARD EARN MONEY PEOPLE!

See...the people here ah, drive such a hard bargain! $1 they also want to bargain with us...crazy man and i'm selling zara, mango, topshop, miss selfridge over here! They think im selling pasar malam clothes....sheesh.

There was even this blangah ah, walked up and down our stall 4 times! 4 times and every time he wanted the tee for $2 instead of $3. In the end after the 4th time he came down to bargain...we gave him for $2. We really admire his perserverance, determination and of cos bargaining skills. *bleah* we give up lah, no fight against him.

Lastly i really want to thank my friends and colleagues who made their way down just to encourage and support us!!!! and of cos my family and cousin who stayed almost the whole day with me, buying me drinks and food and of cos looking after my things in case someone steals them!!!!

It was a wonderful experience despite the backaches! hahaha...and wouldnt be a success without our family and friends..and of cos a sunny weather...gosh they should really put cooler fans attached to the ceilings or columns...phew!

And.

now i'm proud to say that

"I've come and done it all!"

ps: just in case you are wondering how much we made....we managed to sell $300 plus worth of goodies! *smirk*

My reading: Green tea Hokkaido ice-cream surrounded with red bean paste with whole red beans of cos and chewy pearls!

Their green tea ice-cream was truly enjoyable with the very strong taste of green tea, reminds me so much of Japan and their green teas. And very well complimented with the sweet red beans and chewy dumplings which erm pretty much taste like those bubble tea pearls. Very chewy, white and much bigger in size. about 3x bigger?

*psst...im still very much a bubble tea fan....*

Overall: I LOVE IT!

mr goh is having...a girlie dessert! hahah when it came i was like " oh my! that looks like what a girl would eat!!!" muahahahha...and he starts to roll his eyes.

Menu Description: Strawberry Sundae (muahahahha)

OK...thanks that they have a picture of it to show us what it really comprises of. It has a soft ice cream at the peak, sugar wafer, peaches, kiwi, strawberries all sitting on a small scoop of Hokkaido Strawberry ice-cream. And comes with a single cherry.

oh. i think this picture will tell you the "size" of our desserts. SO weight watchers out there, it isnt alot of sugar here to begin with.

JUMBO seafood along Clarke Quay

Finally, wj and I decided to deviate alittle bit from our usual meals.
Yes, especially yours truly, I can be a creature of constant habit. I can eat the same thing for every meal and almost everyday.
So this weekend, i decided to call the shots and brought mr goh to JUMBO to try their famous black pepper crabs! Because i'm a crab lover, i simply love JUMBO's black pepper crabs!!!! They are by far the most delicious and aromatic, fragrant ones that i have eaten.

As for chilli crabs, my verdict is "you can forget it". I cannot understand why people go to Jumbo for their chilli crabs when the sauce is just chilli ketchup stir-fried with egg. But in this case, i ordered one for mr goh to try so that he will know what i mean. It's always good to try rather than to explain. And everyone has different palettes. I say "not nice", it may not always be the same for him.

First dish was Stir fried Dou Miao with garlic. Personally i think it's abit too oily. Not salty.
Taste: Good
Service: very prompt! Impressive!
Price: for a small plate, this one costs $10 Medium $12 Big $16

Next up was PEPPER CRABS!!!
Taste: Slurps!!!! mr goh was impressed. This one was sweet and succulent. Pepper was fried till fragrant and came piping hot!!!
Price: $41 ($3.80 per 100grams)
Size: Big enough for 2 of us

Last dish: Chilli Crabs
Taste: Dilute sweet sauce (think chilli ketchupy sauce) with egg. Usually Singaporeans would eat this with fried plain mantous (buns) which they will happily dip them in this eggy sauce. We ordered 2 fried ones and 2 steamed ones. mr goh was skipping his bowl of rice for this.
Oh yes, minimum order is 2 buns for a table.
Price: $41 (same size crab as the pepper ones)

Overall Service:
I notice that they hired quite afew china chinese to wait on the tables. I think it's quite good actually since our plates were changed quite often and we had so much crab shells! hahah...
And they left a huge pot of chinese tea at our table so that we could refill it by ourselves.
Paying the bill was fast too. So service here is very prompt. I guess this one is not as busy as the one at Riverside Point.
In case you are wondering which one im referring too. I went to the one beside JustSteak, beside Riverside Tandoori.
It's quite small but cozy, faces the riverside too. But dining by the riverside is such a touristy thing to do...i mean our waters are murky brown. There really isn't much to see, and hopefully no smell to accompany your dinner!

i have finally plucked up my courage to cut my hair!

ta-duh! okay, i didnt have enuff courage to do a bob one but not everyone is suitable for Mrs Beckham Bobcut, and I WILL NOT SUCCUMB to fashion!

So here's the new me with shorter bangs (as always...dunno why, all hairstylists recommend that i have bangs) and shoulder-length hair....

i didnt perm my hair, it's just naturally curls..and i coloured my hair so now it doesnt look so black but with tinge of red and browns....okie i'm still adjusting...miss my long hair though...

We thot the automobile was the cutest iron on sticker...but we decided to let ahren choose it himself. Since he's the wearer....

But...that stupid bear took so long to decide. And finally when he has made up his tiny brain. He wants to have them all. Like his t-shirt is SO big to fit all of them. Sometimes i wonder why i have a "son" like him. no 'blain' one.

First birthday celebration@ National Stadium underneath the Grand Stairs

Greetings from all of us at the National Stadium!

i think working in a design firm, people are just so creative!

see! we can make birthday cakes from donuts and old chang kee. hahahha...Thanks to our lovely colleagues and special requests, we ordered 2 big boxes of rainbow-coloured donuts, some with funny stuffings and toppings, and one even looked like a poop!

Guess old time favourites like Old Chang Kee was clearly winning the race as it was snapped up quickly and swiftly by many. Soon all was left were the donuts. Not that it didnt taste great but i think most people favour the salty snacks...just think of jelly beans and potato chips...i think i'll pop the chips anytime sooner than the jelly beans.

Yan Palace

Ritey, above are just some photos of true evidence that this is the one 'palace' that needs quite abit of waiting. Starting business at 1030am but u bet business hasn't started, the queue has already begun forming!

It was mother's day and I decided that it was time to try somewhere new once more. Enough of the Red Star which my mum loves patronising on sunday mornings. I know she loves their push-carts, cantonese speaking waitresses (these days are china ones now though), the 80s decor, terrible carpet and plastic dishes.

i've heard quite a few reviews on this particular Yan Palace. So it's time people for miss pinky here to wait their infamous queue and try their famous dimsum. We woke up about 10am and reached the restaurant at 11am. Parking at the multi-storey carpark was simple enough and locating the place was easy. Just follow the crowd.

we did our wait for about 45mins and finally got ourselves a table. The place was packed. We quickly ordered our regulars cos mummy the queen of the day was grumbling at a growling tummy. Har Gao, Siew Mai, Zhu Jiao Cu (Braised Vinegar soy Pork Knuckles) were some of our favourites. We also ordered Century Egg Porridge, Yam Balls, Mango Shrimp, Lychee Shrimp, all shrimp combi...etc etc...the list just goes on and on...there were 5 of us in case u are wondering did we come in a pack. hahahah

First up. Pork knuckles (mother's favourite. had to order or kanna whip later).

Verdict: VERY GOOD! very braised, flavourful, wholesome, big chunks of lean meat with some fatty ones, one big hard boiled egg, tiny chunks of ginger soaked in vinegar and all of these buried with the one true essence - the gravy! urh hem. Even my mum says it's much better than the one at Teahouse China Square by Tunk Lok.

Second: Yam Paste Ball

I think taro fans will love this. Fried to perfection. Soft and mashy on the insides. Tastes not too sweet. I just can't stand that most items here that are recommended are FRIED! dimsum has become so unhealthy!

And oh, the people here are so thoughtful!!! See they cut up all the fried stuff for you to share with your family and friends! Bonus brownie points.

Banana Shrimp: ooh this one is good. But i cant say it's the best i've eaten. Good that the shrimp is whole and fresh, but the banana taste wasn't strong enough, probably the banana wasnt too ripe. Crust was light enough but still oily.

Mango Shrimp: Kudos to the chef in whipping out so many different crusts!!! hahah....this one looks just like a bird's nest from the outside. On the insides, oozing with mango puree and small bits of mango, u can see the whole shrimp. Thumbs up for value for money.

Almond Lychee ball: hahah this one fried with almond flakes, whoa...very crunchy...for someone like me with braces...better eat with care. or maybe grannies with dentures BEWARE. Looks beautiful, hard on the outside, soft on the insides. Not bad again.

opps, left out the HarGao and Siew Mai, but just to let you people know, steam items takes really long to come in this restaurant. Maybe that's why i forgot to take the photos....haha tired of waiting and when it does come, we just want to eat them!

Price: for so many dimsums feeding 5 mouths, the total bill came up to approx $80. Not bad...value for money.

Service: very prompt in serving and re-serving your tea. Takes orders quick too. Staff are approachable. BUT BUT BUT...steam items takes forever to arrive.

last note of advice: BETTER RESERVE A TABLE IN ADVANCE
