We had another great interview this week with author, businessman & activist Professor Devin Robinson (http://www.DevinRobinson.com) of Going Against The Grain Group (http://www.IAmGoingAgainstTheGrain.com), Taking it Black University (http://www.TakingItBackBlack.com) and The Black Hair Project.

We touched base on the current 1 week national U.S. boycott of non-Black owned Beauty Supply stores and how that ties into what Prof. Robinson calls a constant "economic hate crime" that occurs all over the United States to the Black Community in regards to the road blocks in establishing one's own businesses in comparison to other ethnic groups, the exchange of money within the community and other things here and there!

I found out about this event via our Twitter account earlier today and had to spread the word - it's always great to see people doing positive things in their communities! :)

“100 Black Men of Hope”

A Community Event Dedicated to Making a Difference Amongst the Youth

The “100 Black Men of Hope” event will be held Friday, November 6th at Imagine Hope Community Charter School in Washington, DC from 9 am - 2 pm.

The main goal of this event is to have 100 African-American males come out as volunteers in order to be a strong showing that positive male Black role models do exist and are available for the students this predominantly African-American school.

** NOTE: ANYONE can volunteer for the event to help the youth!! While having a goal of wanting 100 African-American males to turn out, EVERYONE is welcome to help, regardless of race or sex. **

ALL of the volunteers that day will help children with everything from their day to day activities, to cleaning the school, assist school workers, mentoring, reading books and more.

Students will also receive free giveaways from professional athletes and celebrities that originate from the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area!

What's up BlackRadioIsBack.com and FuseBox Radio Broadcast Supporters!

For all of my Hip-Hop folks, if you aren't living in the DC Metro area, I'm sure the term "DMV" (DC, Maryland and Virginia) is being driven more and more into people's heads as time has gone by this year (especially with Wale dropping his Attention Deficit album next week - if the 'net leak is accurate, a pretty fly project worthy of copping at the REAL store, not just zShare).

There as always been a great deal of talent in the DC Metro area Hip-Hop wise, even though the area is more known currently internationally for Go-Go music (still a mainstay & influence on all sorts of music genres on various artists).

I've always been a person to get sold on music folks by seeing them perform live (all sorts of studio magic f***ery can make your grandpa sound dope & energetic now) as well as checking out albums, mixtapes, etc. to find out whose worthy of my respect, co-signage and bi-weekly dollars in terms of my support.

DC representative MC & producer Southeast Slim gets the BlackRadioIsBack.com/FuseBox Radio stamp of approval on all levels and in my opinion, is one of those whose up next for deserved fame.

Representing the Southeast area of DC, the former Virgina State University student Southeast Slim has been doing his thing behind the boards and on stage for major since 2001 on the solo ends, with the EMP (Empire of Money & Power) collective and independent label/production house Hitter Quitter Records.

He has that balance of both putting out consistent solid music releases, does not have to depend on guest appearances to make a dope song (while he does get nice ones like Wale, UCB, etc. it's not that necessary) & with a really hardcore work ethic (sometimes, both don't seem to blend the way they should in latter day Hip-Hop) that should hopefully pay off in the future.

We've covered the collabo Black Music supergroup of Idle Warship (consisting of Hip-Hop MC Talib Kweli, Black Rocker/Singer Res and MC/Singer Graph Nobel) before here on the 'site and it's a nice surprise that they've decided to drop this full mixtape of new Soul/Dance/Rock Music joints and remixes in conjunction with Mick Boogie.

Idle Warship welcomes you to our first full length offering, "Party Robot". This started out as a path to musical freedom. When we established Idle Warship, we did it for us.

The term DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia) is circulating a lot more in independent and mainstream Hip-Hop circles due to folks like Wale, the Diamond District collective and numerous others making their moves in the past few years.

DJ Gemini of the Washington, DC radio station WKYS 93.9 FM put together a solid mixtape of some of the known and soon will be known MC talent in the DC Metro area for folks to check out and hit us up directly here at BlackRadioIsBack.com with the heat.

Good Wednesday Morning to our BlackRadioIsBack.com and FuseBox Radio Broadcast readers & listeners! :)

Besides the fact that I still have a bit of a tomboy side in me in regards to video games, Black College Football Xperience: The Doug Williams Edition captured my attention for a few reasons...

As a daughter, niece, cousin and friend of folks who attended HBCU's (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) here in the United States, I thought it was interesting and pretty cool that Nerjyzed Entertainment was making a video game representation of the HCBU Football experience.

Some folks may ask why such a game would even need to be made with the plethora of sports games out now or even at all.

As the first African-American owned development studio to receive Gold Certification for the Xbox 360 from Microsoft to make video games (a major technology accomplishment), the owner had a concern about Black American images in video games in general and in her own way, wanted to make a positive impact:

Whether you are a fan of video games or not, chances are your children or young people you know play them. Unfortunately, the prevailing imagery of African-Americans in the majority of video games on the shelves today does not promote positive images nor does it educate.

In fact, the disturbing images of violence and other criminal activities have a lasting impression and sometimes a negative impact on the gamer who’s playing them. As Chairwoman and CEO of Nerjyzed Entertainment, Inc., I am committed to developing games where positive images and experiences of the African-American community prevail.

Together we can show the video game industry that we are worthy of games that teach and communicate positive messages and images reflecting the African-American culture.

In terms of importance and impact in the mainstream/professional sports world, Black players in football and their original foundation in the HBCU sports community (especially with the NCAA not accepting HBCU teams until the 1970s ) can't be denied.

Also for real, the game just looks like it would be fun and pretty cool to play, which is what matters overall to the vast majority of us who play these things in the first place. :)

Chester Gregory is a really on point independent singer, songwriter & performer who's represents in the New York City area.

We've rocked various music of his on the FuseBox Radio Broadcast through the years and received this mixtape a few months back of some of his more freestyle music works.

This BreakBeat Karaoke, A Throwback Mixtape has him doing a lot of remixes based off of throwback breakbeats (& their interpretations) from Hip-Hop music classics along with featuring some original songs that feature guest appearances from artists including artists from Farrah Burns, Phase One, Dot Da Genius (producer of the Kid Cudi's "Day N Night") and more.

I've been meaning to post up this really cool independent Hip-Hop EP (and nice and FREE, can't beat that) for a good minute from East New York's own Wordspit to share with everyone and now finally have the time to get it in.

He's been making his power moves lately, being in everything from URB.com's Next 1000 Top Movers List to getting featured on TheSource.com and Bleu Magazine.

Wordspit has a nice lyrical style via his MC influences of Canibus, Jay-Z and Nas and luckily, doesn't have that aspect of beat tone deafness some of our lyrical Hip-Hop fellas and ladies can sometimes get which makes the albums sound more like ill shaped spoken word joints than music.
