Special small group price is $485 for three months.

Special one-to-one private class price is $35.

Chinese Colloquial Idioms High level course will continue through May. If you have an intermediate Chinese language level and interested in learning real Chinese - this is your best choice. The whole program will last 4 months, two times a week one class is in the evening and one class is on the weekend. The tuition is $680. plus book $25.

Beginner level Mandarin class will start in May. Two classes a week. It is a 3-month program.

This High level Chinese Colloquial Idioms course will start March 2008.

Learn Chinese in Toronto Language school for Measure Words

If you want to learn Chinese Mandarin,You have to learn measure words. It is very important for Mandarin language learners because different nouns have different measure words appropriate for them.

Generally, there is a relation between the shape (or sometimes type) of the object measured, and an applicable measure word; Or the quantity and amount , or an action and movement etc.

The Chinese Mandarin numeral comes + the measure word + noun.

In Mandarin Chinese, the use of a measure word between a number and a noun is obligatory to indicate the unit of measurement of an object, as in “ling gè rén” and “yì zhāng piào.” Such linguistic difference explains why Chinese Mandarin learners often find it difficult to master Chinese measure words.

The best way to acquire chinese measure words is through associating measure words with the names of objects, that is, through meaningful learning in contexts. Thus, this lesson, after pre-teaching activities stated below, aims to help students learn proper usage of measure words through interactive activity, so that students can ultimately internalize this aspect of Chinese grammar in a meaningful manner.

Here you will find the most popular measure words (sometimes called counters), with an example usage.

Pre-teaching: Overview of Chinese Measure Words

A. “Ge” is a generic and the most frequently used measure word;

B. Measure words with imagistic association:
1. Shape-related: like “zhāng,” “tiáo” and “zhī” “kuài” “tuán” “piàn” “gēn”
“duī” “jià” “zuò” “liàng” “pái” “háng” “lÌ”dá” “juăn” “kē” “lún”
“wān” ;

2. Container-related: like “hé,” “xiāng” and “píng” “kuāng” “lŏu” “dài” “tán”
“tŏng” “wū” “chē” “guō” “năo zi” “shū bāo” “kŏu dài”;

3. Verb-derivative: like “bǎ” and “huí” “tàng” “shōu” “

C. Arbitrary measure words: as in “yìbǐqián,” and “xiàbānchē.”

D. Quantity-related: “yí fù shŏu tào”,"yi yīn tang”,"yì mǔ dì” etc.
