THERE WILL BE BLOOD, has two amazing performances, Daniel Day Lewis and the young man playing the "faith healer" but I found the film to be tedious and overlong and I was actually editing out shots in my mind as I was viewing the film. It's a tough film to edit since it appears to have been shot with very little coverage. That is many of the scenes are shot from just one angle, so there is nothing to cut to no close ups of the actors... I do like this "Woody Allen" kind of directing style, but if used too much, the result can lead to an overlong film... Also I found some of the music to be jarring and felt that it actually detracted from certain scene's instead of adding to them...

Next... RAMBO, literally had the audience cheering out loud... Although it is a fairly routine "action script" it delivers in spades when it comes to the blood and guts getting the bad guys scenes... I also thought that it was quite amazing that Sylvester Stallone at 60 years old, was
still able to re-visit both his ROCKY & RAMBO franchise creations and in the new millennium make audience pleasing films out of these old favorites...

Finally... My absolute favorite & in my humble opinion, the Very Best Sci-Fi Movie Ever Made...
CLOVERFIELD. Wow! This project really delivers what the Trailer promised... A Big Studio Sci-Fi Monster Movie, shot like THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT! If you do not like the feeling of being in the middle of a Horrifying Monster Movie that is being Documented by a Home Video Camera, then by all means STAY AWAY. If you do not like Shaky, Badly Composed, Amateur Style film making techniques, then by all means STAY AWAY. However, if you are like me and absolutely adore this style and find this kind of 'high bred" film making to be the cutting edge of what is happening to the State-Of-The-Cinematic-Art... RUN TO SEE THIS FILM IMMEDIATELY & RESERVE THE DVD & PRAY FOR A SEQUEL... This my friends is nothing more than the ALIENS franchise for the New Millennium...

Make Films Not War...

DW

David Worthhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04084857253228627982noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7758410751856499245.post-51552071957359298582008-01-21T19:29:00.000-08:002008-01-21T20:33:04.627-08:00New website...& A happy new year to all,

I trust that everyone reading this has found it as a result of visiting my new website: davidworthfilm.com Naturally, I'm very excited to finally be a part of the new century and all of it's fantastic internet options. Believe me this never would have happened without the amazing computer skills of my son, David II who also has been handling the website for The Berkeley Math Circle. Yes... That Berkeley, sitting across the Bay from the most beautiful city in North America San Francisco. That Berkeley already famous for the Beatniks, the Hippies, the Free Speech Movement as well as poets and writers like Ginsberg & Ferlinghetti... David will be graduating from there this spring majoring in Political Science and of course My wife and I are very proud. (Go Obama!)

I'm starting my second year as an Adjunct Faculty member at Chapman University next week and will have my first book on Cinematography published later this fall. When it comes to films and filmmaking I'm looking a projects in the USA as well as some that may be made on distant locations like Bulgaria or India...

Finally, If you haven't seen the DVD of OH LUCKY MAN, get it immediately. This thrilling film was directed in the early 1970's by Lindsey Anderson from an original idea by Malcolm Macdowell. The extras boast a documentary called OH LUCKY MALCOLM... that is fantastic... Also, I must say that I'm anxious to see CLOVERFIELD... this production looks like it could be kind of revolutionary since all of the promos make it appear to be a Big Budget Hollywood Sci-Fi Effects Movie... But one that has been shot like THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT...

More Later... MAKE MOVIES NOT WAR!

DW

David Worthhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04084857253228627982noreply@blogger.com0
