Here's the synopsis:

ANGELS OF VENICE is a dark and intriguing story of murder and transformation that takes place in the small town of Venice, New York. At the center is the chief of police, Eliza Hamilton. She finds herself investigating a series of homicides that seemingly have no motive and almost no clues. Except for one. “Tommy Bob”—a vampire creature she made up as a child has suddenly entered the real world, as the name carved into the arm of each victim. At first, the murders appear meaningless, but they are not. Horror writer L.L. Soares, has just announced that SKULLVINES PRESS will be publishing the short story collection IN SICKNESS, due out in 2010. A joint collection between Soares and his wife, author Laura Cooney, IN SICKNESS is made up of three sections: solo stories by Cooney, stories by Soares, and a 12k novella entitled "In Sickness," written by Cooney and Soares in collaboration.

Grub's mission is to support creative writers at all stages of their development so that they can achieve their goals of publication, social and professional networking, gainful employment in the field, and/or personal enrichment. THE ART OF THE GENRE
Using the unreal in your fiction offers unique opportunities to break fresh, new ground. This class will help hone the tools you'll need to write genre fiction--be it science fiction, fantasy, or horror--with a distinctly literary bent. In addition to the weekly workshopping of short stories and novel fragments, students will be given a background on the genres' histories and their respective subgenres, strategies for using surrealism and postmodernism in their work, approaches to using "real world" research as a way to flesh out otherworldly settings and narratives, and ways to use the unreal as a tool to make metaphoric statements that can only be articulated with fantastic trappings. Other topics covered will be strategies for marketing your work, techniques for idea generating, and protocols for developing their work with the help of editors and agents. The goal is to give you a solid grounding in the demands of fantastic fiction, and a better understanding of literary potential of your favorite genres.

Goodbye, Joe McGee

We got some very sad news today. Horror writer (and NEHW member) Joe McGee died last night in his sleep. Joe was only 23-years old. He was a friendly, genuinely nice guy who was very enthusiastic about writing, and about the horror genre in general.

After talking to him in emails the past couple of years, it was nice to finally meet him in person at this year's ROCK AND SHOCK convention in October. He was even on the writers panel at R&S.

Joe had a lot of friends in the horror community, and he'll be missed.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

The only thing in their way is hapless slacker, Caleb Dunne, who isn't sure what he believes. There's humor, adventure, message boards aplenty, and advance reaction has been fantastic. My editor tells me she's proud to be involved in publishing it, and frankly I consider it my best YA effort to date.

In February of 2008, while in attendance at the Boskone convention in Boston, a group of writers discussed the fictional fate of characters named after Jack Haringa: he'd already been killed in two works by Brian Keene and in a book by AJ Matthews. SHADOWS OVER NEW ENGLAND, a new book by authors (and brothers) David Goudsward and Scott T. Goudsward, will be coming out on April 25th.

This is a non-fiction guide to horror set in New England, including novels, short stories, movies, filming locations and points of interest around the region, for horror afficionados. The book covers the six states and follows histories, legends, and fiction dating back from the Salem Witch Hysteria to late 2007. It is not meant to be comprehensive or a travel guide, but the book is chock full of information and rarities.
