and reading blogs. much can be expressed when you have some sort of anonymity, you don't feel like you're going to be judge because of your race or gender. you don't feel like you have to write for a certain audience, because you are really writing for yourself.....at least that's how i approached it. i loved the discussions we had in class and in cyberspace. they were never offending or threatening. the truth is i might never blog again in my life.....unless i have to repeat this class, but i can honestly say i have a different way of approaching Never had I actually sat through a whole discussion about politics. I honestly usually just tune out the conversation. Its always been so boring to me. This class has helped me realize how important it is to be up to date in regards to all political information. I now know how important it is to have my own opinion. Especially when it comes to who I want the next president to be or which laws I want passed. I guess in some sense this has helped me, not define Who Am I? but began the process in figuring out who I am. I now more than ever believe that the decisions we make help define who we are. Our decisions or choices we make tell a little about what kind of person we are.

As for blogging, it has also been brand new to me. I imagine I've had the opportunity before, but never found it very important to express my opinion to people I don't know. Now I feel that sometimes there is things you just need to let out. In some sense that is what we do as bloggers, we just BLURT out whats at the top of our head. Its especially better when people don't know you. What I found most interesting is the things we "Blurt out" that may not mean much to us, can be of such huge significance to others. So I say, "Keep on blogging Peeps!"

Senator Obama resigned from ....

his church today.

A New Experience

This has been a unique experience for me before this class I wasn’t familiar with blogging, I still consider myself a rookie but I have tried something new and learned a new way to express myself and socialize with others. Well I'm not sure but I will now have a very open mind to the whole idea of blogging.

Final thoughts- Awareness

The whole blogging experience was a success. It was a creative way to involved the class into communicating with each other. Not just in class but outside class we were all motivated to be involved in issues that affect us. The whole presidential campaign was very informative if it wasn't for the blogs I don't think most of us would had paid attention to the campaign. I personally have grown in the sense that being aware is part of being educated. We cannot come to school and not be aware of who is going run our country. We need to be educated but also informed in things that concerned us and others as well. Some issues might affect us directly than others but they all affect us one way or the other. We should continue to be more informed and not stop researching for the truth instead of just listening to what the media presents to us.
I wish you all good luck in finals and keep it up.
P.S. Don't forget to vote, every vote counts.

Last Post--Final Muse

It has taken me awhile to write my final muse, but alas, I was inspired yesterday when I attended an event hosted by Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social (Women active in literature/writing and social change--MALCS). At this event there were three women collectives from In Lak Ech, which means you are my other me, a poetry and musical group focusing on empowering women to Mujeres Abriendo Caminos (women opening paths). A radio program started by a Guatemalan refugee focusing on the stories of immigrant women in Los Angeles with an emphasis on the importance of the women's movement. And finally Teatro M3 (read as M to the third power), a women's theater group with an emphasis on empowering and giving voice to third world women, Chicanas, Latinas, and other minority women. What struck me was how these women's collectives all had different ways of reaching out to their community and other communities either through music, poetry, radio, dance, theatrical performance, and internet. When starting to blog, I thought it was strange to connect with people whom I did not know over the internet with no physical interaction. However, once I was introduced to these women's collectives, blogging finally made sense to me. Everyone has a need to communicate and in order to raise awareness, whether it be on women's movements, social issues, or Clinton, Obama, and McCain, each one of us has to find a platform to do so. I truly believe that in order for people to gain awareness it has to be through communication. For this class, blogging is the way we informed one another and gained greater insight on issues we would not normally be aware of. While our blogging experiment was for the class itself, I like to see from the bigger picture--communication to create awareness, create a social consciousness, and hopefully to create social change.

Final Muse!!

I need to begin by saying that I honestly under estimted this blogging experience! I'm usually online for specific things rather then just being on. However although I'm still getting comfortable with blogging it has exposed me to many new things. People blog all over the world about practically any topic. Not only does this allow people to voice their opinions across different parts of the world , it also allows the reader to further educate themselves on a topic. As time progresses I learn more about myself and what I am capable of achieving in life. Communicating with others is a gateway to many wonderful and illuminating experiences. The more we socialize ourselves with others and further educate ourselves, the more open minded and free spirited one becomes.

Final Muse!!!!!!

Who Am I? It wasn't because I was uninterested, just didn't have enough time. Taking care of family, working, and going school is not fun lol. I wish that I had the time because it was lots of things I would have liked to post. Blogging for a class was a great idea, it was something different. I learned how to blog, and new things about the computer I didn't know before, especially the little short cut buttons to press. Blogging is a great way to express yourself, I believe majority of the class enjoyed it. I think more teachers should think of alternative ways to teach their classes, because the teacher in front and the students as an audience isn't cutting it anymore. Present day students are simply bored in class. I could go on and on about how I love your teaching style, but I'll just state it once. I LOVE YOUR TEACHING =).

Suggested Book 2 Read

How Much Are You Making On the War, Daddy? by William D. This is the first time that an instructor did not give me exact instructions on what to write on. The blogging part of class let me express myself in ways that I never did in class. And as for the election part of blogging...that was a whole other story. I learned that the election process for the candidates this year is attracting a whole lot of media attention. And, along with the attention, comes all the critizism and extra input from the media. Through blogging and class lecture I have learned that everything that is heard on tv usually has some sort of twist to it. I have learned to ignore most of the media about the election going. I read about the issues and choose one which would be in my best interest. Ignoring the media not only keeps you informed...it avoids false information from processing to your brain.

Interesting

I was surfing the web (washington post to be exact) and I encountered this poll;

Q. At first I though blogging was so boring but thanks to my fellow classmates I have learned and opened my mind to different opinions and thoughts. This couldn't of have come at a better time.... I am writing my paper on immigration and then my father receives a letter in the mail. The letter stated that he would be sworn in as a United States Citizen..... we have waited for years. Where there is a will, there is a way for all people immigrating to our country. I am proud to say that as of May 22, 2008, my father is now an American Citizen! This topic has had a tremendous affect on me and as I stated before, if it was not for my fellow classmates, our professor and their interesting points of view, I would not be blogging at all. I wish everyone the best of luck!

Forgetting the Environment?

Although I respect every ones plans for their final paper, no one ever came to think about our environment and the issues linked to it. Since immigration has been an issue, it will be interesting to see how they are planning on dealing with this situation. Immigration does exist everywhere and needless to say, minorities and immigrants have kept this country going. Who picks out vegetables to be marketed and available to the population? Who donates their money for a good cause? Who wants something in life and a promising future? This country is made up of many immigrants seeking a better life. Many of us coming to Cal State L.A. come from immigrant families. We are all here to make a difference and if any of these three candidates can make changes for everyone to be treated equally, then may the best candidate win.

Immigration, Is it important for you?

Wow, I was having a real difficult time deciding what I wanted to write about for the final paper. At first I was sure that I wanted to cover all of Hilarie's issues because I was completely sure that I wanted to vote for her. Then after being in class and hearing all about Obama, I did not know if I did want to vote for her. At the end, I decided that I was going to stop breaking my head till the election was really close and then decide. I said to myself, I am just going to write about how much does a persons religion influences their candidate preference. For example, if you are Christian and believe that abortion and same sex marriage should be illegal, would that absolutely encourage you to vote with your religious group even though you do not like where the candidate stands on other issues. Would poeple feel like they are backstabbing their fate if they vote against their beliefs?
I also want to write about immigration and what are each of the candidates stands on it because it really hits close to home. My husband is an immigrant and he cannot go anywhere, get a proper job, or obtain financial aid so that he could go to school. He did not come here because he wanted. His mom brought him when he was 6 years old. He does not even remember what his country looks like and has no family over there. I want to write about what all the candidates plan to do for immigrants. How many people have family members or loved ones in the same position?

Clinton, McCain, Obama, Oh my! Final Paper

For my final paper I'm planning on writing about gender differences between Obama and Clinton in the media. I'm thinking about writing about how the media focuses in on the gender differences between these two candidates, and it seems that while the gender roles are reversed for each one, the media imposes traditional gender roles for Obama and Clinton. I would like to analyze how each candidate handles questions from the media, public, and how they would handle all the problems they will possibly inherit by becoming president, to get some perspective on how they embody the reversed gendered roles they have embraced. In doing so, I will also look at the ascribed and achieved characteristics in each candidate and see to what effect it has on the candidate to act out these reversed gender roles.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://eastlawhoami.blogspot.com/2008/05/clinton-mccain-obama-oh-my-final-paper.html' title='Clinton, McCain, Obama, Oh my!
