In India, this day has been preponed to November 14, because the date marks the birth anniversary of the freedom fighter and independent India’s first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. Children’s Day in Hindi is known as Bal Diwas.

Jawaharlal Nehru was born on November 14, 1889 in Allahabad. His father, Motilal Nehru was a famous lawyer of his time. His mother’s name was Swaroop Rani. Jawaharlal Nehru was the maker of modern India. As a child, he was brilliant, kind, and was loved by all. As he grew up, he became the beloved of all the children, and they called him ‘Chacha Nehru’. He said that children are the future of a nation and the citizens of tomorrow. He felt that children are the strength of a country.

As a tribute to this great man and his love for children, his birthday is celebrated all over India as Children’s Day. Schools celebrate this day by organising various cultural programmes. Special functions are held to honour children all over the country. Various competitions like quiz, fancy dress competitions, etc., are organised on this day. Therefore, Children’s Day is a very special day, for us all.

Courtesy: Planet Young, The Assam Tribune, on 12-11-09

Today is Shakolsher (Thursday)

What next?

Employment News Nov 11

Jobs&Career

Delhi Police invites applications to fill up 6302 vacant posts of Temporary Constables (Executive) Male and 416 vacant posts of Temporary Women Constables (Executive). Sadhu Thakur’s Janma-Tithi falls on the Bhatri Dwittia day, that is two days after Dipaboli (Dwipaanjli) and a day after Gobardhan Puja. The Sangthan celebrated the Mahotsav this year in Pune on October 20 and in Mumbai on November 1.

I feel proud and privileged to be associated with Bishnupriya Manipuri Kalyan Sangthan, Pune-Mumbai that organized the birth anniversary celebration of Sadhu Thakur and other functions of the community.

I, on behalf of Bishnupriya Manipuri Kalyan Sagathan, take this opportunity to thank the Bishnupriya Manipuris of these two cities who have encouraged and helped us to organise the Mahotsav.

There is a need of a religious icon for today’s society. The Ganesha Utsav in Maharashtra, was the vision of India’s great freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak. During India’s Freedom struggle, Tilak realized that his country needed a religious icon to bring collective consciousness and propagate the unity among the Maharashtrians. That could be only possible by making the Ganesha festival a public celebration. Tilak thus initiated a new resurgent movement of social awakening.

Similarly, our vision should be to eliminate superstition and illiteracy among our people. Celebrations like the Sarbojanin Sadhu Thakur’s Janma Barshiki are important to bring community people together. These occasions present a platform where all people, poor or rich, could gather, forgetting the differences and create a healthy atmosphere for the fulfillment of the goal of Developed Society.

Today is Leipakpa (Tuesday)

What next?

Contour your body with Liposuction

Health & Fitness

Remember Susan Boyle of Britain’s Got Talent! How she looked in her first appearance in the musical reality show? She was unattractive, yet she awestruck the world with her innate musical talent.

Not everyone can be Susan Boyle who was accepted solely on her singing talent. Look around and you will find people are indeed becoming conscious of their look and the way they present themselves to the world.

They are doing their best to feel good about their health and look. Unfortunately, the modern lifestyle and poor food habits has made obesity one of the common health problems that people are facing today.

Can an obese person shed off extra kilos and look good? Yes, there are some conventional measures like diet control and physical exercises to reduce overweight. But with the advancement in medical science, burning of extra fats around certain specific areas near abdomen, chest, back, and waist which cannot be reduced by exercises or less diet, is now possible by Liposuction. A person can definitely gain desired shape by performing liposuction on his or her body.

What is Liposuction? The term Liposuction is used to describe a procedure to remove extra fat deposits from specific areas of the body. It is to be mentioned that Liposuction is not a quick substitute for losing weight and should not be taken as one more measure to prevent weight gain.

In Liposuction, fat is taken away using a cannula, which is a hollow tube, and aspirator, a suction device. There are various mechanism of Liposuction: Suction-Assisted Liposuction (SAL), Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (UAL), Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL), Twin-Cannula (Assisted) Liposuction (TCAL or TCL), External Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (XUAL or EUAL), and Water-Assisted Liposuction (WAL).

Suction-Assisted Liposuction (SAL) is the standard technique of Liposuction. In this process, cannula is inserted meticulously through the fat layer by making a small hole in the body. It causes breaking up of the fat cells which is by the suction is drawn out.

In the recent times, Laser Liposuction (also known as Smartlipo, laserlipo) is gaining popularity. In this technique, LASER energy is used to melt the accumulated fat.

This was all about medical techniques to burn the extra fat and making people look good. To know more about Liposuction, search in your area qualified plastic surgeon, consult how the technique could make you feel better, and filled you with extra confidence.

Bishnupriya Manipuri Films: A new direction to the society

VIEWS

By RK Rishikesh Sinha, New Delhi

Cinema is the finest form of creativity and art. Fortunate are those who are blessed with this potential and have been in the profession of filmmaking. It is praiseworthy who had acted and had been the part of the Bishnupriya Manipuri films. The Producers, directors, actors, singers, and crewmembers are worthy of appreciation for their endeavor. These movies have sown the seeds for the future movies that will be on the community.

Somewhere these movies, be it is the recently released Paritraan or Kalling have inspired the upcoming directors and producers to make films on Bishnupriya Manipuri community. Definitely, the new crop of directors and producers will be highlighting the different aspect of the community in their ingenious way.

What would be the possible stories that these to-be directors would be touching? Will it be sensitizing an issue of the community, what Kalling has done? Like Paritraan, will they be presenting the changing social ethos in our villages in the movies? One cannot predict, what would be the storyline of the next movie will be? One thing is sure that they will be taking the Bishnupriya Manipuri movie to a new height, what today it is missing.

Some might have reservation to praise these movies. Reasons might be many and valid. These movies have failed because one benchmarks it with Bollywood or Hollywood movies. If one isolate oneself, and for a moment keep himself away from the influence of movies made outside, one will definitely praise these movies. At least the critics will praise the creative juice the directors and crewmembers have poured in these movies.

Today is Lamboishing (Sunday)

What next?

Emare ningkaria, a poem by Shila Sinha

<span style="border-collapse: collapse; It was stated in a joint meeting of the office bearers of the Central committee and Executive meeting of Assam State Committee Mahasabha. The meeting took place at Patherkandi, Karimganj District, Assam on October 25, 2009.

In the meeting, 34 satyagrahis were felicitated by Dr. Debendra Kumar Sinha, President of the Central Committee and by the dignitaries of Mahasabha. It is to be noted that 34-student satyagrahis were brutally injured when the 5th Assam Police Battalions resorted to lathicharge during the 12-hours NH 44 Road blockade at Patherkandi in the year 1995. In the police action, student leader Shalil Sinha succumbed to injury the next day at the Silchar Medical College on December 31, 1995.

The meeting appealed all the office bearers of the Mahasabha to work sincerely to strengthen the apex and the oldest organization of the Bishnupriya Manipuri community. Special emphasis was given on having a permanent fund and carrying out membership drive at the grass root level. It also stressed on the necessity of mass awareness about the Mahasabha to counter the propaganda being spreaded by a section of fake students.

The meeting was presided over by Bhupendra Sinha, President, Assam State Committee. The Forum also formed a committee with educationist and litterateur Kumkum Sinha as President and BMWF Vice-President Narendra Kumar Sinha as general secretary to observe the birth anniversary of Geetiswami Gokulananda on November 26. Geetiswami Gokulananda is an alternative media mogul who is remembered by the members of the Bishnupriya Manipuri as a bard and the Jatiya Kabi.

While BMWF president and litterateur DILS Lakshmindra Sinha gave a detailed account on the objectives and activities of the Forum, educationist and writer Sukhajyoti Sinha delivered an elaborate lecture on the development of Bishnupriya Manipuri language and literature. She laid stress on the grammar of the language that varies from areas to areas. “A common grammar acceptable to all is a must for the development of the language and its literature,” she said, and added: “The two parallel schools of thought on spelling should sink their differences for the sake of development of the language and its literature. It’s true that two parallel lines never meet, but for the sake of development of Bishnupriya Manipuri language and literature the two rival schools of thought on spelling should draw a compromising line and sink the existing differences between them. If it isn’t done now, it’s the language and literature of the community that will suffer the worst casualty.” She further said since the working people cannot afford much time for social and literary activities, the retired people in the society can contribute to the cause. She is of the opinion that since languages continue to change like living organisms, the Bishnupriya Manipuri writers should also be accommodative to the new words that make their way to their language.

In his speech, Haridas Sinha, who wrote the biographies of Sri Sri Bhubaneswar Sadhuthakur, Gokulananda Geetiswami and Nileswar Mukherjee, gave a detailed account on the contribution of Geetiswami and Mukherjee.

Litterateur and educationist Kumkum Sinha, Santa Sinha, Forum members Pratibha Sinha, Ramendra Sinha, Narendra Kumar Sinha and others spoke on the occasion.

Courtesy: The Sentinel (November 3, 2009)

Today is Shakolsher (Thursday)

What next?

The subtle magnificence of ‘Raas’ festival in Bangladesh

NEWS

The Manipuri community from Madhabpur and Adampur, under Kamalganj upazila of Maulvibazar district, celebrated their major religious and cultural festival 'Maha Raas Leela' on November 2. It was either something with office or something that kept me away from going. However, every time I had gone there I landed up meeting people who were either just phone friends or friends with whom I have lost touch. In Delhi I landed up meeting so many people and they are still in touch and are friends. To mention a few – Rishi, BN, Jyotirmoy, Tridiv.

In Delhi I had gone to represent my father Mr Kajal Kanti Sinha, who was in Pune that year, for the same thing. He called me through out the time and gave me an update of everything that was happening there when it was happening at the same time in Delhi. Dad wants to visit every place where they are making an effort to celebrate Sadhu Thakur’s utsav.

This year I am in Bangalore (for people who do not know… well I just got married in this town… thanks for the congratulation mails). He was here to visit me and the coincidence!!!! It was time for Sadhu Thakur’s utsav and he wanted to be a part of it. So we all got dressed up for the occasion and visited the venue. It was in a Krishna Mandir tucked away in the corner of the main street. It was decorated very simply with a stage, a seating area, a changing room and a dining area.

The first thing that struck me was the area was so clean, I mean where do you see clean temples in North, except the ISKON temple. Well, they had put together some cultural programs and Sheila kaki (She has written on the same event – check it out too) was ushering the whole event. She really did a brilliant job. She is a teacher so it comes naturally to her. There were some very well put together dance items, song numbers and a very well written poem about the life of Sadhu Thakur. Dad then spoke about the only Bishnupriya Manipuri temple that is coming up in Raadha kund and how everyone involved in it is wishing to have a Sadhu Thakur utsav there some time in the near future, and requested everyone to contribute an amount, what ever suitable for them.

The second thing that caught my eye was the way the elders were ushered to have lunch before any young bloods and no one complained. It needed a little mentioning but it happened, just the way it happens in the villages. This is something that is a beautiful tradition, a small gesture to show that you respect your elders.

That day I met lot of people and realized that in that utsav I had more family members than I had expected it: relatives I did not even know, friends I had long lost touch with. The day ended with introduction of who was who and I left with a long list of phone numbers and knowing that I have more family members in Bangalore than I had originally counted.

Related articles:

The making of an event

Today is Leipakpa (Tuesday)

The making of an Event

NEWS & VIEWS

By Prabal Atreya, Bangalore

About a month back, a bunch of young minds, gathered to discuss the possibility of an event. These minds were all in unison, knew the importance of having a social life. They also understood for a fact that we can’t wait till everything’s hunky dory. And we would socialize when we get ourselves a swanky car, a 3-BHK, crack the CAT, so on and so forth. Because, they felt, by the time it happens, we would have lost many of the precious things and moments. But considering the challenges B’lore has, in terms of getting everyone under one roof, this appeared to be a mammoth task. So, this team set out with a single objective to have everyone in one platform, believing if this could be possible, we can get into finer things as the time goes.

Each one went with an assigned task along with a deadline. In due course of time, some of us met expections; some of us did fail too. The targets were revised and the cycle continued. The young India that we belong, working for large corporate houses, have a myth around in running a show with lots of corporate fundas. While the truth is, there is a thin line between management techniques and social etiquettes that we have to work around, in order to ensure a social event of this scale and magnitude. We decided to take care of both with utmost sincerity.

There are so many brilliant people, great minds and enthusiasts in B’lore, was visible in all those who worked their schedule differently in order to make this event possible. We did not have a President or Secretary to begin with, but had worked out assignments that could possibly be done by each one among us. Mrinal and his wife Sangeeta, probably, the finest couple around, worked out like anything. Mrinal had a tough role to play considering his experience. But he ensured that he spends time with his better half during weekends, taking her along with him anywhere and everywhere, meeting both the targets successfully. He showed us a way that there actually is a way to do things and keep everything balanced. Raghav was another soul whose rich experience was vital for us; he’s one guy who got us the finest venue available; the banner that everyone was talking about and most importantly, with his valuable inputs. The ever-smiling Pannalal who always took up anything that came his way. Sharbendra (Tinku) was critical to lot of plannings, had to go home due to personal commitments but he surprised all by being there well before the event. My heart goes out to Swapan, without him, this event could not have been what it is. He’s one guy, who was engaged in resource allocation, led the cultural events from the front. There’s Fulendra Sinha from R.T.Nagar, who jumped into action after hearing the event, carried to spread the word, and funds collection in his ever growing area. If there’s one place to be christened as Bishnupur in B’lore, it has to be R.T.Nagar with the vast population of Bishnupriya Manipuri staying there. Bijoy, in spite of his just-married status, and his professional commitments, ensured he promotes the event and drives his wife, Madhavi for a dance practice for the event. There’s Jugnath who gave special inputs for the event, we missed him during the final because of his professional commitments. There is Ramakanta (Bhanu) who joined us soon after his personal commitments and covered up for the lost time during the most important hours. And lastly, there’s Debashishda, who’s instrumental in everyway, with his vast experience helping us in making things better.

Operationally speaking, if there’s one hand who needs applaud is, Sushanta. He was never there in the picture initially, but he initiated, took the charge; it reflects his attitude. He was critical almost everywhere during the final days. Then, there’s Amit and Jiten, who worked tirelessly during the final days. We missed one guy though, Abhijit, who’s on a professional trip to US, he surely would have added a lot of value; but his absence was filled in by his sister Robita. Little does she knows that the badges she prepared were liked by one and all. There are people who initiated on their own, who do not need reminders. There’s Sharmistha who started off the preps for a cultural event, got a team of her own with Madhavi, Lovely and Bimola giving company to her. There’s Sharmila, along with her sisters, Gautomi and Sananda, jumped into action during the final days and came out with such a brilliant performance. Highly appreciate their efforts, considering the time they took to get ready. The last night before the event was very critical. Sushanta and Amit were instrumental in getting the resources in place and slogging their way out till the wee hours in the morning and again turn up at 6.30am on the D-Day. Jeetendra, Neelkanto Chatterjee, Vishal, Robindra, Santosh, Shankanto, Tinku, Panna, Swapan, Shila Sinha were all involved on the final day. Then there are people like Rohijit who quietly come and do their bit by simply doing a Shevari act during the Bandara. That’s speaks volume of one’s character. It feels great when a Sharmila walks up to you and says- you should have involved us with certain responsibilities. Goes on to show that we have people with great attitudes, but we just had some communication gap here in B’lore. The event was successful in many ways than one. There’s a brother-sister who got to see each other after a good couple of years. We could also witness the some talented, good-looking Bishnupriya Manipuri males and females, all heavyweights with their CV.

Honestly, these names are worth a mention, which is the whole intention. Because all of these names come into my League Extraordinaire. We can’t be hidden into a smooth dress code and a corporate visiting card, while the truth is you’re slogging it out by just being an ordinary person. Unlike this lot, this has the potential, which consider and play around the given surface and gives their best. Because they initiate, participate, suggest, take feedback and are willing to make a change. All of them are rockstars if you know what that means.

A salute to all of them.

Related articles:

140th Shri Shri Bhubaneswar Sadhu Thakur Abhirbhav Tithi, Bangalore

The 140th birth anniversary of Sri Sri Bhubaneswar Sadhu Thakur, Hailakandi

Photo Glimpses, New Delhi

140th birth anniversary of Shri Shri Bhubaneswar Sadhu Thakur, New Delhi

Once in a year

Today is Ninthoapa (Monday)

What next?

Let us honour the men of Forces

The Indian Armed Forces (Army, Air Force and Navy), the paramilitary forces and the State police, have always been the first choice as the profession for the Bishnupriya Manipuri boys from every village. Series of bomb blasts in different parts of the state left behind 90 people dead and injuring many. Never before it, had the people of Assam witnessed such calculated dastardly act of terror.

One year has passed. But dreadful memories of the gruesome incident still lingers in people's mind. After one year, the question arises – how we shall remember this day? With anger or grief? The immeasurable pain that the people of Assam have suffered, forgetting it as another run-of-the-mill terrorist attacks that the country have witnessed, is impossible to go.

Especially for the victims of the bomb blasts, the day will be haunting them every time it will be mentioned, for its sheer horror, for its ceaseless terror that was trailing on this very day. For us who were glued to the television set, it was anger coursing in our veins.

On one hand, the day had brutally revealed the fact how much our lives are insecure in the hands of those who are having the power to protect us, how politicians, the bureaucrats and the system have failed us and our faith. But on the other hand, the day will be remembered for bringing people of Assam together at the time of grief and anguish and standing side by side against divisive politics with a commitment to unite against terrorism.

There are few important questions to ponder upon; are there any recent changes in the Government machinery and in the indifferent attitude of sleeping politicians of the state and the center? Do they awake to their duties towards citizens?

The law is OK in its place. There is no need to change the laws, what is lacking is attitude towards it. The State resources to counter such instances are inadequate. There is need to overhaul the whole strategy, there is a need to modernize the police force, allocation of sufficient funds, and better coordination of state and center intelligence agencies. Last not the least, establishing a crisis management team which can be pressed to action at the time of crisis.

As a Bishnupriya Manipuri of Assam, where my brethren also fallen victim to the bomb blasts, I would like to remember October 31 as the beginning of a new politics of India and Assam in particular. A politic that looks beyond the policy of hate and divisiveness. A politic that could help us to build up a strong, secure, brave nation unwavering before the scourge of terror. On this day the elders of the house, keep the Ekadashi fast, to be the part of the ritual while the priest orate the mantras prior to hoisting of the flag, the Firral next day.

The important of Ekadashi occurs on the 11th day of the bright fortnight in the Month of Kartika month (mid Oct-Nov.) after the chaturmas, fourth month period of solitude and meditation, when Lord Vishnu is said to be resting. The Ekadashi at the start of chaturmas 11th day of Ashada is equally significant and sacred. And

it also scientifically proved that the Ekadashi fast fulfils the need for the digestive system to take rest and helps periodically clear the digestive track of food, oil and spices etc. thus the person becomes healthy thus longevity increases.

Why should we keep Ekadashi fast? There is a story behind the power of Ekadashi fast. The power of Ekadashi is about a king, named Rukmangada and his people through out his kingdom made the subjects healthy and longevity, hence the death rate fallen drastically as a result the Yamraja, the Lord of Death was very much in panic. He went to Brahma for redressal. In order to break the pious practice of Ekadashi, Brahma sent a Rupasi naari, Mohini, who won the confidence of the king, Rukmangada within no time because of her beauty. The king was so mad after her, he forgot all his responsibilities as a ruler of the kingdom, and started spending his entire time with Mohini and fulfilling whatever wishes she expressed, but except one, and that was of breaking Ekadashi fast.

Mohini insisted him several times for breaking his fast; but he refused, saying that she can ask for anything other than the breaking of fast. In anger, she asked for the head of king’s son. King Rukmangadas’ son readily agreed and offered his head. At the nick of time Lord Vishnu appeared and saved the king’s son. He blessed the king and all his subjects of the kingdom. In return, the people of Kingdom reciprocated with the hoisting of flags in honor of Lord Vishnu in every house.

Today is Erei (Friday)

What next?

140th birth anniversary of Shree Shree Bhubaneswar Sadhu baba in Bangaluru

By Shila Sinha, Bangaluru

On October 25, 2009, the 140th birth anniversary of Shree Shree Sadhu baba Bhuvenaswar mahotsav was celebrated at a Krishna temple of Kormangla in Bangalore. The programme started with the worshipping of Sadhu Thakur. A procession was also taken out on the occasion in the morning.

The discussion on the life of Sadhu Thakur held on the occasion was presided over by Lalmohan Singha and was addressed by veteran educationist and retired principal of Public Higher Secondary School, Prajesh Chandra Debroy, retired professor Barun Kumar Sinha, Madhusadan Sinha, Sabyasachi Sinha among others. All of them discussed about the life of Sri Sri Bhubaneswar Sadhu Thakur and urged the young generation to follow his path. Explaining the life of Sadhu Thakur, they said that the saint was born in the middle part of 19th century in the Baropua village of Cachar. The name of Baropua village now has been changed as Bhubaneswar Nagar. He went to Nabadweep in the early childhood for the study of Shastra. He established Sri Sri Govinda Mandir, which is now a famous place for Gauriya Baishnav Society. He also wrote a book Sri Sri Govindarchanchuramoni.

Later in a function, the MLA of Patherkandi, Kartik Sena Sinha was felicitated. The felicitation function was presided over by Dr. Debendra Kumar Sinha. In his address, MLA Sinha stressed the need of spreading the message of Sadhu Thakur among the new generation. He urged the youth to unite together for the welfare of the Bishnupriya Manipuri. He lamented that the entire community is now facing identity crisis and alleged that the government is totally reluctant towards the demand of the Bishnupriya Manipuri community. He further alleged that the representative of Bishnupriya Manipuri community was also not included surprisingly in the committee formed for the linguistic minority community and informed that they met the Speaker of the Assembly and placed their demand. The Speaker later suggested the inclusion of the representative of Bishnupriya Manipuri in the committee headed by Bijoy Krishna Nath, he added. The MLA also announced the donation of Rs 1.5 lakh for the development of the Sadhu Thakur Sevashram of Hailakandi.

<br Young and old, men and women alike, had a complete gaga time at the celebration of 140th Shri Shri Bhubaneswar Sadhu Thakur Abhirbhav Tithi. They were all seen carrying close-up smile and busy chit-chatting with their friends and relatives.

However, for many it came as an unexpected day, since the day gave them an opportunity to be in touch with their villagers, classmates and oldie-goldie friends. A young lady from Barupua, the birth place of Shri Shri Bhubaneswar Sadhu Thakur, was very happy to find many of her village boys and girls at the venue. Not to guess, the newly married lady kicking the never –stopping conversation with her gangor manu.

For Gautam Sinha, M.Tech student of IIT Delhi, and who is first-time attending the event, got amazed with the sheer volume the Bishnupriya Manipuris in the capital city that had congregated in the event. It was an all-day talk for him; he got acquainted with so many new friends. When asked about the food, “Yummi, it was very tasty,” he said.

Promod Sinha, who happens to be the first subscriber of the site, the day was a special day to meet with his phone friends with whom he remains in touch the whole year through phone and mail. His friends’ circle had a guaranteed fun-day at the event.

And for those who have been attending Shri Shri Bhubaneswar Sadhu Thakur’s celebration every year, they were heard saying that this year presence of many new young faces has increased. However they also admitted that many persons known to them have not come at the event. They were enquiring about them.

As the day came to an end, conversation among the attendees became frantic as if it is going to be their last day of their meeting. They all have a good word for the organizer, the Bishnupriya Manipuri Nagarik Samiti, in organizing the event in such a grand scale.

Previous articles:

Utsav 2008

Utsav 2007

Grapevine is rife

Mileau of the Tithee (BN Sinha)

Special Day 2008 (RK Rishikesh Sinha & BN Sinha)

Today is Ninthoapa (Monday)

What next?
