href="http://artisaprocess.blogspot.com/2008/06/wing-dress-update-velocity-mama.html">my last post i was trying to
capture a sense of "velocity" as i've
placed feathers on the paper-form of the dress

now the task is almost done here and
today, i am going to show you
an equally boring-to-you (as the last few posts) process of
deciding on last bit of details it look less like a real wing

you see,
some part of me will always be wanting to make rational sense
balancing, smoothing, harmonizing things out and such
avoiding that dress update: placing feathersnearly a month has passed since
i posted on the wing dress the last time

today, i share with you
the totally boring process of
placing the wing on the dress

totally boring to read about, that is
i usually have pretty swell time but
hanging out with me during such time
would be like death for you...

first,
start with blank paper dress
using the paper thin enough to trace

below:
such paper running out hence
partial patchiness

<img style="cursor: pointer;" at the blank dress
pinned on a sewing body awhile

(warned yu it's pretty dreary)

i started to just roughly trace
part of one of the
wing drawings

<img style="cursor: means
this rough

<img style="cursor: pointer;" about a bit and
traced another feather (circled) from
another part of the same drawing

<img style="cursor: pointer;" drawing and
taped it onto the window
then trace the reversed wing

<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" another look

i spend however long enough time
until i start to see the patterns on it
then i'd mark what i see before it dissapears

<a onblur="try enough of
gazing upon the rough sketches...

below,
based on what i've done above,
tracing feathers in sharp, clear lines
that seem appropriate to the general plan<br assignment
to research on what she calls "the planet of hypes"

i told her, hype? i ain't takin part in that
she said, nahh, if you live here you cannot not to
so i threw her back on her spaceship
but before i did i managed to
snatch a few shots with her
posing in my paper dress

below:
see, that's my 1/2 sista
posing like that for revealing the family complexity was
to tell you that,
to get a sense of the wing's 'movement',
i even put the paper thing on
and have a long look into the mirror
until i of the previous project, "dragon dress"as i have been working
ever soooo grudgingly
on
messing with pattern making for
my current "wing dress" project,

i decided to share with you
the history of my previous passion,
the dragon dress

idea conceived sometime in '98
and completed for now in fall '06

first piece
made sometime between
1998-2000

began to practice on drawing scales
using snake photos and a vacuum cleaner hose

i did draw on wool knit material
scales only, using fabric marker (pigment ink)

nice for the first try but
one major issue:
the ink doesn't stay
so after each wash, i must
touch-up

(((lol)))

design was more abstruct than the later ones

<img style="cursor: pointer;" try

same marker on different (more absorbent) material
polyurethane and something else mixture

as much details as the fabric markers would allow
however, to my moderate dismay, there's
still some noticeable fading post wash

this is when i decided to
take advantage of living in japan
and learn the art of fabric dyeing
using acid dye that requires steam setting

<img style="cursor: pointer;" fabric dyeing turned out to be
much finer deal than i expected

the first piece, re-production of the above piece
was worked on from sometime in 2001 til
november 2003

during this period, i was in drought as well
ideas dead, but wished to move forward anyways
hence the endless muddling

below:
this is how the piece #3 is stored now
in a box, double-bagged

that's not casper, by the way
nor klan of you-kno-what

<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" for such a high-strung wrapping is this:
too much excess dye just sitting on surface
ready to fly away and land on stuff

below: way too many whiskers
that's the result of />
previously, i
painted on 2 small swatches with fabric dye,
then sent them off for steam-setting

they returned and
as you see on the below stripy photo,
i away from
where it shouldn't be
ie. unpainted area of the fabric

4. a notebook filled with
knows and hows i collected over
7yr period

5. vats originally for photo developing
from 1982-perrrfect for this purpose
some call me a pack-rat, well, look...

(told you i may use it for "something" one day)

6. i certainly am a "pick-rat"
a beach rock in a shape of
a person's profile

below: the next step

i started with the paler swatch
gently place it in solution
of water and #3 chemical

luckily, they both
had almost no excess dye
if there're any, such excess dye would
leave the fabric and dissolve into solution

gently move it about and
soak for 10 minutes

<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" instrumental tracks
priced super reasonably
and now is announcing the launch of a film festival

what impresses me, among many other things is that
he left song titles and album artwork neutral so as not to
influence the film-makers' visions
ie. mass-participation has been on his agenda

now, i think that's really.....generous
as in stepping back, instead of filling the space
especially so since the guy's been known for his
perfectionism

(don't get me wrong, the album's done perfectly)

in it's 20+yrs history, the band had released many "dark" albums
i've read quite a few critiques with the guy being viewed as
"self-obsessed" for writing about his "negativity"
but that was never the way i saw it

never

growing up in culture that favors
the "always smiling and be cheerful" positivity to the
cutesy bouncy extreme at times,
i've always wondered
what's gonna happen to the part that is not...
.....like that at all?

music is a strange thing
honestly, i am a bit jealous of those who has it
as their medium
because, seems to me, that
whatever you write about, whatever it is,
(if it's of honest kind)
it becomes an all-embracing experience
once it is pounded out of you as a song

surely the high regard in
keeping one's spirit high and
keeping your head up and
put on your smily face and
be "positive"
has a reason to that
i agree
but

i
deeply
deeply
deeply
believe that
to reach the true positivity,
one must let the shadow co-exist with light

after all,
humans are bigger than what we want us to be
and i am forever a stranger to myself
who am i to say what is "negative"
let alone, god forbid,
shun it away......

owww what do i know
i'm just a fool after all but
the fact that the band managed to
gather and sustain
a large following, universally
makes me smile, ear-to-ear, to no end

video below:
war declared?
no, it's trent announcing the
start of an exciting film-fest project

<param
