Calling Harry Potter Fans! Students entering gr. 6-12 are invited to join us for pizza, a book discussion and viewing of 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix'.*

After a lonely summer on Privet Drive, Harry returns to a Hogwarts full of ill-fortune. Few of students and parents believe him or Dumbledore that Voldemort is really back. The ministry had decided to step in by appointing a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher that proves to be the nastiest person Harry has ever encountered. Harry also can't help stealing glances with the beautiful Cho Chang. To top it off are dreams that Harry can't explain, and a mystery behind something Voldemort is searching for. With these many things Harry begins one of his toughest years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

The story of a young man moves from Montana to Florida with his family, where he's compelled to engage in a fight to protect a population of endangered owls, and that a tough girl at his school named Beatrice has some connection with the barefoot boy, who has some connection with vandalism at the construction site. When they realize that a population of endangered burrowing owls is threatened by new construction the kids decide to take on crooked politicians and bumbling cops in the hope of saving their new friends.

Drop-in Valentine Craft

Joins us for a Valentine Drop-in Crafternoon on Saturday, February 7 (2-4 pm). We will be making simple cards (takes as little as 10 minutes) and decoupaging heart-shaped boxes. This is a free event, no registration necessary.

Teen Movie Club Survey: The library will be showing a series of movies based on books. All teens in grades 6-12 are invited to ready the book and join us for a pizza lunch and book discussion. This will be followed by a big screen showing of the movie - everyone is invited, whether they've read the book or not. Tell us which movies you want to see!

Teen Flicks: Holiday double feature

Buddy (Will Ferrell) was a baby in an orphanage who stowed away in Santa's sack and ended up at the North Pole. Later, as an adult human who happened to be raised by elves, Santa allows him to go to New York City to find his birth father, Walter Hobbs (James Caan). Hobbs, on Santa's naughty list for being a heartless jerk, had no idea that Buddy was even born. Buddy, meanwhile, experiences the delights of New York City (and human culture) as only an elf can. When Walter's relationship with Buddy interferes with his job, he is forced to reevaluate his priorities. (2003 / PG)

Adam Sandler invites you to share some holiday cheer in the new, no-holds-barred musical comedy Adam Sandler's 8 Crazy Nights. Davey Stone, a 33-year old party animal, finds himself in trouble with the law after his wild ways go too far. In keeping with the holiday spirit, the judge gives Davey one last chance at redemption-spend the holiday performing community service as the assistant referee for the youth basketball league or go to jail. Davey thinks he's gotten off easy until he meets Whitey Duvall, the eccentric, elf-like head referee. The mismatch between Whitey's good heart and never-ending optimism and Davey's constant troublemaking soon have them both wondering if going to jail wouldn't have been easier! In this new, full-length animated feature about basketball, old girlfriends, holiday spirits, and the mall, Adam Sandler voices the three lead characters of Whitey, Davey, and Whitey's fraternal twin sister Eleanore! Become a Teen Advisor and help us make the library a better place for teens. Students in grades 6-12 can make a difference by volunteering their time, creativity and enthusiasm.

A Teen Advisor is an easy way to contribute to your community. Teens may commit to as little as 2 hours that can count towards volunteer or community service time. Volunteers who complete 10 hours of service within a school year (September—June) will also receive a “Thank You” gift in the form of a $20 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble.

The meeting this Thursday (10/9) starts at 7:00 p.m. and your input will affect how we:

buy books, movies and music;
plan teen programs;
furnish and decorate the Teen Spot;

Do you ever have that panicked feeling on a Sunday afternoon? "My homework's due tomorrow and I couldn't get to the library yesterday!" - groan, moan and more. For your convenience the Library will be open on Sundays 2-5 p.m. starting Sunday, October 5. These hours will be available from October to May. *

The library is a great place to meet for group projects, research that NHD topic or catch up on some quiet study (or napping!). Hope to see you there!

What a fun summer! We had 171 students read 683 books. The earned over 200 prizes and we raffled of over 20 more!

Teens had the opportunity to watch three movies, make 4 different crafts, and plenty of chances to "DDR the Night Away" and use our cool Wii system (including Guitar Hero III and Wii Olympics).

We hope you all had as much fun as we did!

Teen Crafternoon: Bottle Cap Crafts

Recycle all those old metal bottle caps! Using some basic tools and some teeny embellishments, teens (entering grades 6-12) can transform this old trash into wearable earrings, bracelets and charms.
