Few places are as revered as Thailand's number one wellness destination: Chiangmai Province. Chiang Mai is home to some of Thailand's most fantastic hotels and locations. Shopping is excellent and dining and spa visits are amazing.

CHIANG MAI HOTELS GUIDE
Experiencing the merging of the past into the present in Chiang Mai where locals are proud of the city's 700-year history. Its rich traditional heritage and unique culture is a perfect foundation for the development of the city. Chiang Mai is one of the few places in Thailand where it is possible to find in the heart of the city centuries-old chedis and temples next to modern convenience stores and boutique hotels. The original city layout still exists as a neat square surrounded by a moat with vestiges of the fortified wall and its four main gates offering prime access to the old town.

For years, tourists have mistaken Chiang Mai as the northern junction and the base from which they can explore other provinces. The phrase "a day in Chiang Mai is enough to see things around" was common. Today, tourists are surprised by the fact that there is always something new to discover Chiang Mai. Intriguing diversity among ethnic tribes coupled with breathtaking scenery makes Chiang Mai one of Asia's most attractive tourist destinations. Two weeks in Chiang Mai may not be long enough for serious travelers.

The old city of Chiang Mai with its fascinating indigenous cultural identity such as diverse dialects, cuisine, architecture, traditional values, festivals, handicrafts and classical dances is a prime location in its own right. In addition, the presence of hill tribes and their wealth of unique cultures enhance Chiang Mai's distinctive diversity.

Chiang Mai is also blessed with pristine natural resources of mountains (dois), waterfalls, and other nature-based tourist attractions. At the same time, Chiang Mai residents are warm, gracious and congenial providing authentic hospitality making visits memorable and meaningful. Moreover, visitors from all walks of life can collect handicrafts of silk, silver and wood produced locally as timeless souvenirs. Chiang Mai is a place where both backpackers and luxury tourists can enjoy themselves to the fullest.

Jacob Schultzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15590698687806318983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7722800058063524140.post-49585735344224038742010-02-26T01:45:00.000+07:002008-05-23T08:42:36.688+07:00CHIANG MAI MAPGet the Google Map widget and many other great free widgets at Widgetbox!Jacob Schultzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15590698687806318983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7722800058063524140.post-35773156626131318532008-05-24T09:18:00.000+07:002008-05-24T09:18:38.367+07:00Shewe Wana Boutique Resort Chiangmai City Chiang MaiShewe Wana Boutique Resort Chiangmai City Chiang Mai: "Shewe Wana (Life returning to forest and nature) A small 18 room cozy boutique resort with Service in mind. The pool is also well-maintained and attractive, although it doesn’t get much sun later in the afternoon. The breakfast buffet (included in the room rate) is excellent!

The location is also very good. Although it’s near a main road, the side street itself is quiet and we heard very little noise at night. It’s conveniently located to walk around the walled city, including many temples, restaurants, and shops. The Sunday walking street is only about 10 minutes away. The night market is also walking distance, but a little longer walk (20-25 minutes). If you’re going further, it’s worth trying to flag down a communal taxi, which cost only 15 baht to the most of the city.

Directly across the street is a very cheap internet place, and next door is a little outdoor tour stand that can arrange day trips and treks. Along Moon Muang Road, there is a 7-11, food stalls, and other shops.

The staff was very friendly and helpful – we had problems with our room safe and a minor plumbing issue, and they sent up people immediately. When the safe could not be fixed, they offered use of the hotel safe.

The rooms are not really the attraction here -- the “superior” room we had was adequate. There was just enough space and it had the basic amenities, but it could have used a little sprucing up, in terms of new paint, tiles, etc. We were in the “M” wing though - the rooms/suites in the other wing of the hotel opened onto balconies and seemed nicer, so try to get one of those.

The hotel has a van that will drop off at the airport for 100B. I’m not sure if they also do airport pick-up.

For the price we paid, this hotel is a great value in terms of location and features.Jacob Schultzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15590698687806318983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7722800058063524140.post-85245544519284517882008-02-26T02:12:00.000+07:002008-05-23T08:42:36.694+07:00SUKANTARA CASCADE RESORT & SPA HOTEL REVIEW“Fantastic experience”

Fantastic9
Sydney
Feb 18, 2008
Fantastic experience ! We were welcomed in the main lobby with very friendly staff who showed us to our room without any delays. All the rooms are given names, we stayed in a bedroom call 'Chiang Chaom', it was very clean and comfortable, and decorated in the Thai tradition. The air-conditioned room has a living space with a large comfortable sofa, coffee table with a satelliteTV and DVD, friodge and minibar. The bathroom was very clean it has a walk-in wet room withshower and a large scultured bath made from concrete with a varnished finish and a waterfall fill feature. All the rooms have a view of the pool and the river (Mae Ping). All in all I can highly recommend this Villa.Jacob Schultzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15590698687806318983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7722800058063524140.post-80812377142489219522008-02-26T02:10:00.000+07:002008-05-23T08:42:36.694+07:00SUAN BUA RESORT HOTEL REVIEWChiang Mai was our first stop on a 3 week trip taking us to many places from north to south in Thailand. After a fantastic overnight train ride from Bangkok (book 1st class sleeper it is worth it) we were taken by taxi to the resort. Please note that the resort is a good bit outside the city of Chiang Mai, up the winding roads into the mountains but transportation is cheap and as we were visiting the region and not just the city this was perfect. We rented a taxi and driver for the 4 days we were there and he was there ready to take us wherever we wanted whenever we wanted.
The hotel and resort is beautifully landscaped and the views of the surrounding gardens and mountains spectacular. We stayed in a relatively newly built double room that was huge, felt like a suite with separate sitting room, balcony and a good sized bathroom. Spotlessly clean with everything one would need for a great hotel stay. Breakfast was a buffé with chefs preparing eggs to taste. There was a pool that the kids enjoyed but this is not the main feature of the resort. The spa on the other hand was great. I have seldom had such a good Thai massage as there. And the serenity surrounding the place made me relax in a minute.
My neighbor who grew up in Thailand found the hotel for us and it was just great. Didn't seem that many other westerners had found it though as there were mostly asians staying there. This added to the feeling of being in a truly asian paradise.Jacob Schultzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15590698687806318983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7722800058063524140.post-39174876252174758162008-02-26T02:09:00.000+07:002008-05-23T08:42:36.695+07:00EURASIA CHIANG MAI HOTEL REVIEWWe enjoyed eurasia. The garden is a lust for the sences.
it's a little outside of town but a free shullte bus wich runs every hour brings you right in the center of chiang mai.
We stayed in one of the bungalows and enjoyed it. Only minor pont was that the electricy box was right above the shower. In my opinion unsafe.

Its not toprated luxury. but so aren't their prices. We stayed low season and there were not many guests. Breakfast buffet was minimal but everything you asked extra was served at your table at no extta cost. What I love about Kaomai Lanna is that it's green everywhere. I felt so relaxed and peaceful. It's not just a nicely decorated boutique hotel or resort that are plenty in Chiangmai. I went there with my family and all of us loved it!Jacob Schultzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15590698687806318983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7722800058063524140.post-89786264027356696042008-02-26T02:08:00.001+07:002008-05-23T08:42:36.697+07:00RARIN JINDA HOTEL REVIEWMy stay at RarinJinda Wellness Spa was memorable, one I will never forget. Great mixture of modern accommodation and precious spa in a relaxing atmosphere. The hotel situated in an excellent location, with close access to the town centre (within walking distance) and superb view. The room, facilities and service were five-star at an affordable price.

This spa hotel is pretty close to perfect except for the noise surrounding the hotel and the hard beds. Since they only have 35 rooms, it's a more intimate and quiet type of setting. When we arrived, the front desk greeted me by name without me introducing myself. I was pretty impressed.Jacob Schultzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15590698687806318983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7722800058063524140.post-42893069020995675942008-02-26T02:06:00.000+07:002008-05-23T08:42:36.699+07:00YAANG COME VILLAGE HOTEL REVIEWOur stay at Yaang Come Village was exceptional. I am so happy we decided to stay at Yaang Come Village. It was beyond our expecations. The architectural design and landscape is a work of genius, with each detail creating a delicate and free-flowing calming ambience.

We stayed in the deluxe superior room, 2nd floor overlooking the pool---no noise from construction, and no mosquitos-- and this was without any kind of repellent (we told management that we had asthma problems). We couldn't have wanted a more aesthetic and comforting place to stay. The room, just the right size; the bed, extremely comfortable; amenities, luxurious. The staff went out of their way to help us on a number of occasions. Their willingness to please us in a genuinely warm and friendly way was beyond the norm for "good service". Even when we accidently left one of our bags at the hotel, after checking out, they sent their driver a few hours later to bring it to us, 25 km away from the city, without asking for payment (even when offered).

We would like to make special mention of general manager,Ms. Rung-aroon, who we saw work 'round the clock, personally attending to the guests, (including yours truly!) in all facets of their stay. This personal touch was truly remarkable, and showed us how such involvement could make a difference.

Without hesitation, we would strongly recommend Yaang Come
for a special Chiang Mai experience!Jacob Schultzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15590698687806318983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7722800058063524140.post-14139135122444911962008-02-26T02:05:00.000+07:002008-05-23T08:42:36.700+07:00FERN PARADISE HOTEL REVIEWThis place was as good as advertised and better. Peaceful, quiet, beautiful. It was a needed change of pace after 5 days in bangkok. My only regret is we didnt stay longer ( only 2 nights). The grounds are simply perfection. Every detail is taken care of with an amount of passion that is rivialed nowhere else.

I travel frequently on business and I would say this is the best place I have ever stayed. I slept better here than at home.Jacob Schultzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15590698687806318983noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7722800058063524140.post-39342528139399549002008-02-26T01:57:00.002+07:002008-05-23T08:42:36.701+07:00CHIANG MAI HOTELSBoutique Resorts (Style with a personal touch)

Baan Gong Kham Boutique Lanna

This restful Northern Lanna style resort merges contemporary materials with native teak wood. It's so cheap and chilled you could spend months here just relaxing, living off a tenner a day, and have an experience of a life time.

Northern Thailand is especially popular with backpackers; it's not full of saddo package tourists like Phuket is, nor manic like Bangkok and the whole town is geared up for budget, free-spirited travellers. The old town is full of amazing guesthouses tucked away down quiet lanes, and you can almost feel like they're home. There are some groovy bars and wicked places to party, plus loads of brilliant little restaurants all over the place serving veggie and organic food, or spicy Thai curries and noodles for less than a buck a meal.

Chiang Mai is full of backpackers and has a really laid back atmosphere; everyone here is down to earth and friendly, which is why many stay longer than planned. It's one of the cheapest tourist places in Thailand and you're spoilt for choice. Hire yourself a small motorbike and explore the fantastic natural areas that are so close to the city, such as Doi Suithep mountain, the beautiful Mae Sa valley and the small villages near the town. There are plenty of adrenalin pumping activities too, from white-water rafting to rock climbing, bungy jumping and mountain biking.

Many use Chiang Mai as a perfect base to go trekking, for sure this is one the main reasons people come up North and there are plenty of companies about town offering all sorts of options to head into the amazing mountains for a few days and stay in hill tribe villages, ride elephants and skiff down pristine rivers.

You absolutely can't come north without visiting Pai. This sleepy little town, three hours north over the mountain ranges is hardly a secret anymore, but a top place to chill and hang out with plenty of other free-spirits. Set in gorgeous rural surroundings beside a pretty little river, this small town has a brilliant bohemian atmosphere, and is a budget place that guarantees that the mass of tourists stay away. People stay for weeks; there are yoga and new age pursuits, healthy food, live music in the bars, cheap beer and lots of friendly relaxed people.Jacob Schultzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15590698687806318983noreply@blogger.com
