Help needed for model pioneer

Many of us got started in RC with the Marks Models Wanderer and other kits - Bird of Time, Windfree, Windward, Fun-Scale etc. Mark Smith personally helped may in the San Diego are get started. He flew the rc seagull in the movie Johnathan Livinston Seagull. He was involved in ultralite plane and sailing. He is now fighting cancer and needs support. New Guest Flier Procedures Published

Over the past several weeks, the Executive Committee (EC) has written a procedure for members wishing to bring guest fliers to our field. It also applies to visitors and newcomers that have independently discovered our Club and/or the flying field and want to come and fly here on a trial basis.

The procedure has been adopted by the EC and is in effect immediately.

The document outlines the procedures, requirements and restrictions that must be followed by guest fliers and their Club-member hosts at the SFDRCM field. Please note that it is the host's responsibility to ensure that these procedures are followed.

The document is attached to this newsletter, and it is available on the Club web site at:
www.sfdrcm.com .

For a safe and enjoyable experience by the newcomer, please become familiar with the procedure before bringing a flying guest to the field.

RC Items Stolen - Good Resolution

Earle, yes I have recovered all but about $400.00 worth of tools and small equipment. Thank You for posting it on your website. They havenot caught the person that broke into my trailer yet. There was some damage to three of the planes, two with minor damage but one that they "tried" to fly has alot of damage to it.

New Field Rules Posted

After much discussion and thought, the board has revised the field rules. They are effective immediately. Please read them. We have clarified and make more specific some rules and simplified others. They are all common sense or based on hard experience. We are serious about enforcing them. Everyones cooperative attitude will go a long way to make our flying experience safe and FUN!!!

First Step in FAA Rulemaking - stay informed

"For the past 12 months, the Academy of Model Aeronautics has taken a proactive role in representing our membership’s model aviation interests and protecting your flying rights by working closely with the FAA on an Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC). The purpose of the ARC was to draft recommendations for regulatory policy for the operation of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS).This week the FAA released the ARC recommendations and AMA’s goal is to keep our membership informed on the progress in the rulemaking process. Please understand these ARC recommendations are just that, proposed recommendations and not policy or federal regulation. "

To monitor your compliance with the 400’ altitude ceiling, we encourage the use of the “HOW HIGH” altimeter from www.wingedshadow.com

I ordered one online on Monday and got it in the mail Thursday. Great service. It is TINY and easy to use. It records altitude within 1 foot and reports max altitude after you land. Costs $39.90 plus $2 shipping per order. We hope to have some available for sale at the club meeting.

The field is looking good with new blacktop and striping. The east end of the runway has been moved by way of concrete bumpers but there is still plenty of useable runway. We recommend using the pilot stations to the west of the taxiway and will soon be rearranged that way.

Member who have not renewed are urged to do so right away to avoid new member fees.

"The maximum ceiling height is 400 ft above ground level, this safety requirement will be strictly enforced by our three safety officers and our members at large".

Runway has been reconfigured to bring the usable eastern end approx 379’ farther from the freeway. All safety and noise rules will be strictly enforced. Please fly safely and courteously within the confines of the dam. Our field is a valuable commodity.

New blacktop and striping have been done. Please catch your fuel overflow when filling you plane to preserve the blacktop.

If you are not sure how high 400’ is you might buy or borrow a How High altimeter (http://www.wingedshadow.com/) .

As a consequence of the AMA dropping our clubs liability insurance we
can no longer use the flying field. The board has decided to block
assess to the field until we have time to correct this
misunderstanding. Rest assured we will do all we can to have the
insurance re-instated. Sorry for the inconvenience. Frank Ross
