Wide receiver Terrell Owens has been told by the Dallas Cowboys that the NFL team will release him.

Several of Owens' Dallas teammates said they received text messages from Owens saying he was informed Wednesday that he would be released, an article on the Cowboys' Web site stated. However, team officials haven't confirmed the move.

Owens joined the Cowboys in 2006 and has had three consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons, including in 2008 when he caught 69 passes for 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns. He had a total of 38 touchdown receptions in his time with the Cowboys. He set a franchise record with 15 touchdown receptions in 2007.

But he was also seen often as an on-the-field distraction and negative influence in the locker room.

Dallas signed Owens to a four-year, $34 million, including a $12.9 million signing bonus, contract extension last season.

Owens, 35, is a 13-year NFL veteran, having played for San Francisco and Philadelphia before joining Dallas. He has 951 catches for 14,122 yards and 139 touchdowns in his career.

Bush, injured on a punt return in the first half of Sunday's 30-7 loss to the Carolina Panthers, had the operation Monday in Birmingham, Ala., Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said Tuesday in an e-mail to The Associated Press. He gave no other details.

Instead of accompanying his teammates on the trip to London to face the San Diego Chargers on Sunday at Wembley Stadium, Bush instead visited Dr. James Andrews.
"He has been a big part of what we have been able to do offensively and it's an injury that we have to deal with," Saints coach Sean Payton said shortly after the team arrived Monday. "Hopefully on a short-term basis rather than a long-term basis, and it sounds like that's the case."

Harrison The veteran New England Patriots safety has been diagnosed with a torn quadriceps muscle in his right leg and will not play again this season, his 15th in the NFL.
NFL.com and The Boston Globe reported the story Tuesday. The Patriots have yet to confirm the news.

Harrison was carted off the field on the final play of the third quarter of New England's 41-7 rout of Denver on Monday night. After the game, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said the injury "doesn't look too good" and "it was difficult [for all of us] watching Rodney get carted off."

After Hideki Okajima retired the Rays in order, Price trotted back out onto the mound for Tampa Bay with the Sox down to their last three outs. Price walked Jason Bay on eight pitches but struck out Mark Kotsay and Jason Varitek to move the Rays to within one out of the World Series. BradyBrady initially had surgery on Oct. 6 to repair torn ligaments, and doctors said the procedure went well. But Brady began to feel ill this week due to the infection, according to the report.
Dr. Nicholas DiNubile, a knee specialist and spokesman for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, has not examined Brady's knee injury, but said that generally, an infection must be aggressively treated and monitored, according to the report.
"This can happen to anyone having a surgery, but it's a relatively rare occurrence after knee procedures," DiNubile said, according to the Globe. "The earlier you recognize and treat it -- that's surgery and antibiotics -- the less likely you're going to have problems down the line. The best-case scenario is that they got it early, and if everything goes right, he would be back at the same time as was expected."

The NFL confirmed Thursday that 25 percent of the tickets for the Feb. 1 game in Tampa will be priced at $1,000. It also announced it will drop the price of 1,000 tickets at Raymond James Stadium by $200 to $500, the first time the league has cut prices for a Super Bowl.
Tickets for last year's game in Glendale, Arizona, between the New England Patriots and New York Giants were priced at $700 and $900, up from $600 and $700 the year before.

Overall, the official price for 17,000 suite and club seats will be $1,000 each. Another 53,000 tickets will go for $800, with the remaining 1,000 at $500.
At last year's game, the average price of tickets on StubHub, the online resellers, was $4,300.
Ticket prices for the first Super Bowl, played at the Los Angeles Coliseum 43 years ago, were $6, $10 and $12. They went over the $100 mark in 1988 and have increased regularly since.

Jones, working with former Cowboys cornerback Deion Sanders and a friend, began the process of trying to get back into the league after the NFL suspended him Tuesday.

Jones was suspended indefinitely. He will be able to apply for reinstatement after missing four games.

The Cowboys' biggest concern is that Romo gets hit again, causing him to miss more time than initially anticipated and possibly require surgery.

Romo huddled with owner Jerry Jones, vice president Stephen Jones, coach Wade Phillips and the medical and training staff while the team practiced to discuss the quarterback's prognosis, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder.

Brett Favre, who has started an NFL-record 258 consecutive regular-season games, told ESPN on Tuesday that he called Tony Romo and encouraged him to try to play.

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones has been suspended for at least four games for his most recent violation of the league's personal conduct policy, the NFL announced Tuesday.

Jones The league said Jones was involved in an alcohol-related incident at a Dallas hotel on Oct. 8. Previous reports indicated Jones was involved in an alcohol-related scuffle with a bodyguard assigned to him by the Cowboys, and that hotel employees called the police.
Jones will not be paid during the suspension. Commissioner Roger Goodell will determine the ultimate length of Jones' suspension after Dallas' Week 11 game against Washington on Nov. 16.
In his letter to Jones informing the player of his latest suspension, Goodell said Jones' "disturbing pattern of behavior was clearly inconsistent with the conditions I set for your continued participation in the NFL."

League and law enforcement sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that Goodell was expected to weigh whether Jones was in potential violation of his probation, in which he was prohibited from alcohol-related incidents.
When Goodell reinstated Jones from suspension before the regular season began, sources said one of the commissioner's conditions for Jones to remain an active player was that he remain in compliance with all aspects of his three-year probation from when he pleaded no contest last February to a felony in Fayette County, Ga.

Police reported that Jones might have been drinking when he was involved in the scuffle with a Cowboys-assigned bodyguard last week in Dallas. But Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has refuted many of the allegations and speculation. Even though police were called to the scene, no arrests were made or charges filed.

Jones began his time in Dallas under close scrutiny by the league after he was suspended for the entire 2007 season for multiple violations of the conduct policy while he was a member of the Tennessee Titans. The Cowboys traded for Jones before his suspension was over and he was reinstated by Goodell on Aug. 28.

Goodell also said his decision on whether Jones can return to play will be based on Jones' strict compliance with the NFL and the Cowboys in relation to treatment plans and evaluations by clinical experts.

After what might have been its most successful night as a mixed martial arts promoter, ProElite finds itself on the defensive. For the past several days, the Los Angeles-based company has been fending off allegations of fight fixing.

Shortly after stopping Kimbo Slice in 14 seconds in Sunrise, Fla., on Saturday, last-minute replacement Seth Petruzelli began granting interviews. But it was the one he conducted Monday with an Orlando, Fla.-based radio station that has put ProElite under the microscope.
"The promoters kind of hinted to me and they gave me the money to stand and trade with him," Petruzelli said on "The Monsters in Orlando" show. "They didn't want me to take him down, let's just put it that way. It was worth my while to try to stand up and punch with him."

Petruzelli has since claimed his comment was "misconstrued." But the damage was too great to simply go away quietly. His words implied that ProElite attempted to influence the fight, causing the issue to mushroom.

Pacman in trouble again!

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones got into a fight with one of his security guards at a downtown Dallas hotel on Wednesday morning, according to Dallas police.

Dallas' CBS affiliate, KTVT, first reported Wednesday that Jones was involved in an altercation at the Joule Hotel in Dallas, damaging a bathroom.

Dallas Deputy Chief Vince Golbeck told the Dallas Morning News police were called to the scene at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. Chief Golbeck told the News he thought Jones was staying at the hotel and may have been drinking.

There was no police report filed regarding the incident. No one was arrested and no one will be charged in connection with the fight.

What: Jones was at the scene where gunshots were fired following an altercation at a Nashville gas station at 1:50 a.m. Police questioned Jones but labeled him only as a witness. The incident occurred just three days after the vehicle confiscation.

When: Aug. 2006

What: Jones was arrested and charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors, for an incident at Sweetwater Saloon. With six months of good behavior the charges will be dropped, a judge ruled last month.

• Spitting incident

When: Oct. 2006

What: Jones was issued a citation for misdemeanor assault after being accused of spitting in the face of a Tennessee State student following a verbal exchange at a downtown nightclub. The charge was dismissed in general sessions court earlier this month.

• Triple shooting

Where: Las Vegas
When: Feb. 2007

What: Jones took a plea deal to reduce felony charges to a gross misdemeanor. He got probation in return for his testimony about the triple shooting that left one man paralyzed.

Eli Manning has always been the kid brother. Peyton was a highly lauded No. 1 overall NFL draft choice when Eli was still in high school. When Eli in turn became a No. 1 overall draft choice, there was whispering about how he was only riding his older brother's coattails. Few football scouts -- including scouts for the San Diego Chargers, who drafted and then promptly traded away Eli -- thought he would match his brother's achievements. Eli has been booed in New York (which, for NFL purposes, is located in New Jersey); Peyton has never been booed in Indianapolis. New York sports radio hosts and callers once shrieked that the Chargers picked the Giants' pockets in that trade. In their joint commercials, Eli has always appeared deferential and inconsequential compared to Peyton. Two years ago at the Super Bowl in Miami, where Peyton's Colts would line up, TMQ saw Eli at a party. He looked miserable -- not just out of sorts, but miserable. Big brother was outshining him, as usual.
