On the 29th November 2008 it was the chess students of The Weekend Chess Academy who battled it out in the TWCA annual chess tournament.This was the second successful year for the Academy and its students. The past weekend Van Rhyn Primary School Hall was the place where the school teams challenged each other for top honors in the battle of minds. Kolin Foundation Secondary School A Team won the team tournament with 24,5/28 points and earned themselves N$1,000.00 and 4 gold medals for each of the Champion chess players, Romanus Shikalepo, Uugwanga Shaningwa, Simon Mwanuangapo and Thomas Shivera.

Martin Hamunyela is the overall winner of 1st Bank Windhoek Namibia National Junior Open Chess Championship 2008 which took place this past weekend, 7 June 2008 at Okahandja Secondary School.
