So, one way of getting your brand noticed and put into the viral mix is to create a TV show. Mahalo, a new search engine, has a “show” called Mahalo Daily. Below is the first episode.
The show is OK, but what does it have to do with search or the ability to search in a manner different than any other engine? Something’s lost on me.

I found Minisodes on Myspace.tv while looking for Hulu. What this channel offers is condensed versions of 30 and 60 minute shows, distilled into four five minute recaps. "What's Happening," seen below, is a classic. I particularly liked (the late) Fred Berry as Rerun; Berry was one of the "Lockers," a famous break dance team that used to perform all over the place back in the day. Ernest Thomas, who played Roger, the older brother, is Mr. Omar on "Everybody Hates Chris."

Hulu Launches

Hulu, the new online TV service from NBCU and News Corp. has launched. In addition to it being available at Hulu.com, you can find it on AOL and MSN. I'll be writing about this as part of my profession work. In the meantime, I was able to make a clip from "The Office" of Michael Scott's trademark line.

Sometimes, don't you just want to smack MTV in the head for inventing "Real World?" Or maybe just remain angry they didn't sue every copycat who stole their idea and took it to some odd direction. "Roommates" on Myspace.TV is a very watered down version which follow a group of L.A. twentysomethings who graduated college and decide to stay together for life after graduation. As Joanne Worley used to say on "Laugh In"--BORING!

Fox Business News Out of the Box

I checked my cable, and Fox Business News is not there…not that I would watch it if it were.

Product Compnaies Catch Webisode Fever

Rewind to the ‘50s when product companies had a marked influence on TV programming, hence the term “soap operas.” Fast forward to the current world of frictionless program creation and distribution, and you have companies such as Unilever creating Webisodes that are a thin disguise to a marketing and promotional end. One clip, “Sprays in the City,” for I Can’t Believe It’s Butter, is a clever send up of “Sex and the City.”

Problems with A+E Insider

I happened upon a few episodes of “Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels on A+E yesterday and saw a commercial for A+E Insider which allows you to create mashups of A&E content. It’s actually pretty cool, but once you create the mashup, you cannot embed it or doing anything interesting with the finished product. What fun is that? By the same token, there’s a videoplayer on A+E with clips from some of its shows (we like “Confessions of a Matchmaker”) such as behind-the-scenes views. But, as with the mashup player, there’s no way to virally share them. What’s the point?

NBC Shows Bee Movie Juniors

I caught a few "Bee Movie Juniors" while watching the most recent episode of "The Office" a few days after its original air date. The one linked to here is Seinfeld's take on the various methods one can watch video in these day of multiple screens. The clip is funny, but not vintage Seinfeld in its tone--where's Larry David when you need him.

Big question to NBC: Why don't you offer an embedded version of the clips? The movie opens in November. Wouldn't you think Dreamworks and NBC are interested in as much viral buzz as possible?
