The end result will be a much cleaner and robust operating system as well as Internet surfing experience.

However, it is not enough to merely run these programs reactively, when your computer starts slowing down, your entire operating system is being overrun by pop-up advertisements, your Internet surfing experience becomes excruciatingly slow, and your overall system is just plain slow, unstable, and buggy.

Computer security experts strongly advise that we should not just run these programs after the fact, once our computers have become afflicted. We should be proactively running system scans on a regular basis. Or, if possible, run your free AdWare-spyware removal download as a background service on your PC that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In the latter case, the software would then be able to detect problems as they occur, right away, in real time.

It is important to be careful when surfing the Internet. Make sure that you trust the website that you are surfing.

More often than not, AdWare and spyware infiltrate your system by means of stealth. You have no idea that the seemingly harmless content you are viewing on the Internet is actually quietly making its way onto your system and embedding itself, undetected and unnoticed. But try as we might, we cannot guarantee that no matter how safe you are, you won't be vulnerable to such attacks. That is why a free AdWare, spyware removal download can help be your main line of defense in keeping your system clean, robust, safe, and secure.

Run these Windows optimization tools, and you'll be reaping the benefits of a much more stable, more highly optimized, more robust, and much faster operating system!

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Hugh_Kent

What is Trojan Zlob and How Can You Remove it From Your Computer?

It's been around for a few years now, but it is still wreaking havoc on computers everywhere with no end in sight. It's called Trojan Zlob, and chances are high that if you aren't running any form of antispyware on your computer, you most likely are infected with it and can't get rid of it.

How did you get infected with Trojan Zlob in the first place?

While there are quite a few ways that you can get infected with Trojan Zlob, including being bundled with shareware or files obtained through peer to peer networks such as Kazaa or Limewire, the most common form of infection occurs via popup.

The popup will appear as some sort of apparent Windows notification and once you click anywhere within the popup, even trying to close it, additional spyware will being to install itself and this is typically when Zlob installs itself.

What are the symptoms of Trojan Zlob?

As is the case with many other spyware infections, the symptoms can vary and not every Zlob infection will show the same set of symptoms. That being said, the most common things you'll see include changes to your desktop, having your browser hijacked, additional popups, and a significant decrease in system performance.

However, you must be aware that there are other dangers involved with a Trojan Zlob infection as it is also capable of monitoring your Internet activities and modify system files to the point where your only choice in fixing the situation is a complete rebuild of your computer.

How can you remove Zlob from your computer?

Most of the time, you can remove Zlob from your computer by running proven and effective antispyware software. Please note however, that by proven and effective antispyware software I am not referring to the numerous free programs such as Search and Destroy or Ad-Aware.

These programs just aren't as effective as software that you might have to drop a mere $30 for, but that also has programmers and technicians working round the clock to continually provide free updates to that software so that you are always kept current in your protection against even the newest spyware threats.

So if you are serious about removing Trojan Zlob from your computer, then you'll want to get your hands on the most proven and effective spyware remover you can so that you can ensure that you'll not only be able to remove Trojan Zlob completely from your computer, but also so you'll be protected for years to come.

Paul McDonald is a Computer Professional that specializes in teaching people about spyware. You visit only secure sites. You do not open an email attachment without checking it for virus. Think again. Without proper protection for your system, when you go online, you are running the risk of malware and virus attacks. When you are online, clicking on that seemingly innocuous looking "check your computer for viruses" may lead to system malfunction, data theft and worse - losing your precious data for ever. For most of such ads are viruses and spyware in disguise waiting to take control of your system. When you use the search engines too the scores of sites that are listed may not be authentic ones. They may be designed to install a malware once you click anywhere in that site.
You cannot stop using the Internet, for the Internet holds large amounts of information and you use it at home and in business. Intelligence lies in knowing you are vulnerable when you connect to the Internet and taking precautions to protect your system.

So, what do you need to protect your data and system?

A firewall. A firewall can help you protect your system against hostile intrusions from the Internet by preventing unauthorized access to your system.

As you know, the Internet is a network of networks, and thousands of computers have access to your computer when you are online. Viruses can be written by anyone who has some programming skills. And you will have hundreds of them out there who think creating a virus is accomplishing something. So they spread the virus in the network and without a firewall in place, they have direct access to anyone on the Internet.

But with a firewall in your system, those malicious programs will have to return disappointed. For a firewall inspects and filters the information and all traffic routed between the Internet and your system to see if it meets certain security criteria. If it does, it is allowed otherwise it does not. A firewall is literally a protective fence that keeps off malicious programs from your system. That's why it s called a firewall.

Installing a firewall is easy and they are highly configurable. Sometimes it's frustrating to install a new program that you are not familiar with. In that case, you can get assistance from technical support providers for firewall installation and configuration. That shouldn't be costing you much. And once installed, they don't require much change in the settings - for most of us home users, it s safe enough to work with the default settings provided by the firewall program unless there is a specific need to change it.

With your PC protected by a firewall, you can relax, your PC is highly protected and there are no more security holes in your system to be exploited. You are secure!

Thendral Muthusami is a technology writer who regularly contributes to tech article banks, websites, portals on a variety of topics that includes Information Technology, Online Security, Web design, Outsourcing, career development and much more.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Thendral_Muthusami

RegistrySmart - Quit Living With a Slow Computer

RegistrySmart is a program that goes in, checks your registry, identifies, and fixes all these individual files that are slowing your system. Even if you were able to located and repair all these files yourself, the time involved would be incredible. And you would always wonder if you caught them all. This one program takes care of that for you. What's more, it runs periodic checks automatically to make sure your computer is working at peak performance. I don't know about you, but I'm not corroded with patience. I want things to work the way they are supposed to work. A fairly new computer with adequate RAM should be fast, right? Well, what happens if it's not?

My computer went from jack rabbit fast to snail's pace slow seemingly for no reason at all. I couldn't find a virus or adware that was slowing me down. The task manager performance indicator didn't give me a clue as to the problem. But my computer just wasn't acting like it was supposed to. I found the answer in a program called RegistrySmart.

I learned that all computers with a Windows operating system have a registry. The registry is simply a directory of all the options and settings for the operating system. It also contains information about preferences, information and settings for the computer hardware and many programs as well. As you make changes to your computer - upgrade programs and hardware, uninstall programs, install new programs, etc., not all changes to the registry are correctly recorded. As a result, you can have files that act like red herrings for your computer. As it searches relentlessly to try to get these files to work, find the program they're pointing to, etc., it bogs your computer down.

Do yourself a huge favor and check out RegistrySmart. You can download it and run a free scan to see if you have any problems with your registry. Maybe you don't. But you may have 600+ files that need fixing like I did. If you do need to make some repairs, you can purchase the program very inexpensively. It even comes with a money-back guarantee. There's 24/7 customer support, including Live Chat. Check it out: you have nothing to lose and your patience to regain!

RegistrySmart is the Registry Cleaner to use! Laments such as computer running slow, my pc is slow etc., prop up in informal meetings of these PC users. The primary reason for this development is not due to any fault on the part of the PC, but only due to the fault of the person using the personal computer.

The inability of the person to maintain the performance of the PC at 100% performance level is the real culprit for the computer running slow and not any manufacturing defects on the part of the PC or any other thing is the reason.

PC is being used for doing a number of activities such as browsing the internet, downloading software, audio and video files, emails and chatting, to name a few. Every time a software is downloaded or a music file is played through the Internet, a whole lot of cookies and virus creep into the hard disk of the PC without any knowledge about the same to the user. A periodic maintenance of the system is of utmost importance for maintaining the performance at peak level.

The files deleted from the system using the Delete key, while disappearing from the directories, appear on the recycle bin and in turn occupy the space. This is a safety measure provided so that files are not deleted by mistake, and an option is given to retrieve such files, which were deleted wrongly. After confirming that the files are no longer required, the recycle bin should be cleared at least twice or thrice a week. Or else, using the Shift+Delete key to delete the files can be resorted to, by which the files get deleted once for all from the system without getting stored in the recycle bin.

The fastest way to speed up a PC is to simply download a registry cleaner and run a scan. It will clear up errors and instantly speed up application loading and PC boot up times.

Search For The Best Registry Cleaners free at http://www.fixbluescreen.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Sherman_Choo

Consumer Reviews Spyware Removal - What to Look For in a Spyware Removal Product

Nine out of every ten computer users who have access to the internet have spyware on their PC, so chances are, you are among them and this article will be very useful. We will look at what you should look for in a spyware remover.

The first thing to look for is a spyware removal product that has a large database of all the threats that are lurking in the internet. You also want a product that will update itself on a daily basis, since new spyware threats are being introduced every single day. You also want a spyware removal software product with an accurate database. Some of the spyware cleaners out there show more errors than others, but some of those errors are not really errors at all. They are actually files you computer needs to function properly.

The other factor to look for is whether the spyware removal program you are looking at has real time protection. This means that the software is constantly running the background, and is constantly checking for possible spyware threats. In effects, it is not only a spyware remover, but also an anti spyware program.

And the third factor you want to consider is the product's reputation. Customer reviews of spyware removal can give you somewhat of an idea, though you want to also look at an authority review site that has looked at all the different spyware removers, and given rankings of which products will do the best job of removing spyware.

When looking for a spyware remover, don't just look at customer reviews. Spyware removal is very important, so your should rely on authority sites like Spyware Removal Guide & Spyware Remover Reviews.

Go to http://www.removespywareguide.com for a free scan of your PC, plus a look at the top spyware removers

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jeff_Farley

Computer Security - Protect Yourself Against Malware

Malware is a generic term that is used to describe software that is designed to insinuate itself into your system without your knowledge or consent. This includes viruses, worms, root kits, Trojan horses, spyware and adware. I'm not going to define for you here in this space each of these save to say that once there, this destructive software is able to cause all kinds of damage. It can cause the mild irritation of the occasional popups, more sinister problems such as hiding important files and utilities, (thereby preventing you from easily removing them) all the way to wiping out your hard drive or destroying hardware.

I'm sure you've heard the expression 'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.' It is far easier to prevent these insidious infections that to cure them. Protecting oneself against malware is important because at the very least it slows down productivity in the workplace. At worst, it can destroy equipment, requiring extensive repairs and/or replacement which are even more damaging to your bottom line. I'll share an example from my own experience.

I bought a computer early on in my career and was using a popular antivirus product. One day I was online and my machine started to run slow, so I tried all of the normal fixes such as clearing the temp files and defragmenting the hard drive, etc. This did not help it run any better. I ran a virus scan and found many instances of malware. After attempting to clean the system, it actually failed to boot. Turns out there were bad sectors on the hard drive. I replaced the hard drive but still was unable to get the system up. After checking every conceivable component, I found that my memory was also bad and was unable to upgrade the BIOS. As you can well guess, I ended up buying a new machine. A cynical person might say that it was not my antivirus software's fault and the machine was probably bad to begin with. I will concede that there is always an outside chance of that, but given that this all happened immediately following the infection and my subscription was far from being up for renewal, I will always contend that it was the result of this product's failure to do its job. Today it is considered a quality product but I will never recommend it based on that experience.

One of the most important things that you can do to protect yourself is to stay current with your windows updates. Many malicious programs are designed to exploit security vulnerabilities and send themselves without the user's knowledge.

Here are a few other tips:

Don't click on any email attachments from sources you are not 100% sure of. Even if you are confident in its source, scan it before opening it.

Don't open any files received via instant messenger without scanning them first and verifying from the person who sent it that they actually did.

Stay away from peer to peer file sharing networks. Those networks are flooded with all manner of malware and it only takes one false click to infect your machine.

You should install an antivirus solution and keep it up to date as well. There are many products out there that are capable of protecting your machine from these malicious attacks, some freeware and some retail. I'm not going to promote or denounce any product but rather implore you to shop around and do your own research or contact an IT professional for guidance.

Magnatek Network Solutions -- Quality IT support for less!
http://www.magnateknetworking.com
info@magnateknetworking.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Earl_Jackson

I Have a Slow Computer, Help!

Almost everyone has ran into a problem with their computer, at some time or another. While some pieces of sofware can technically be called spyware and adware, most malicious software programs fall into one category or the other.

The term "malware" has been coined by computer experts to describe any piece of software that is installed on a computer without the owner 's knowledge with the express purpose of doing something harmful, illegal or secretive. The word malware is actually short for the phrase "malicious software" and pretty much describes exactly what you're getting when your computer has become infected with spyware or adware.

Spyware programs, as the name implies, is often installed with the express purpose of somehow spying on your computer activities. Spyware can sometimes track and log what you type on your keyboard and then send those strokes back to someone else who wishes to do you harm. This type of spyware is called a keystroke logger and it can be very harmlful. With a keystroke logger someone can get all the usernames and passwords you've typed into your computer, can possibly read all the email you've written from your PC and even obtain your credit card number if you've ever typed it in to purchase something online.

There are many different types of spyware and not all spyware programs do the same thing. Some spyware programs simply monitor your online activities, which violates personal privacy but may not actually break any real laws. Other types of spyware can secretly spread computer viruses or do damage to your computer. Yet other types of spyware can simply change the settings on programs that you've legitimately installed. If you've ever had your web browser 's home page change without your knowledge then your computer may be infected with spyware.

Another type of malware is called adware, and it 's designed to do just the opposite of spyware.

Adware, as the name impllies, is designed to bombard you with annoying pop up ads or other types of advertisement, in the hope that you'll buy something or accidentally click on an advertisement that makes the installer some money. Some adware packages only work when you're connected to the internet, while other adware programs function all the time.

In recent years adware programs have gotten sneaky. Many adware programs now make their pop-up ads look like fake Windows error messages, causing you to click on them by accident. If you've ever gotten strange Windows error messages and you weren't sure what to do then you may have some form of adware installed on your PC.

You may have adware or spyware installed on your PC and not even know it. If your PC is slower than it once was, if you've noticed the hard drive running at strange times or if your web browser 's home page has ever changed without your approval then you probably have spyware of some sort installed on your PC. Adware is more obvious: if you're getting a bunch of ads or suspicious error messages that you didn't get before then you may have adware installed.

Fortunately there are many good and affordable spyware and adware removal programs available. Some programs specialize in one type of malware over the other, so it 's a good idea to have some general idea of the category of malware you think you have. You simply need to install and run them and your PC can be spyware and adware free in a matter of minutes.

About the Author

You can visit http://superspyscan.com to learn more about spyware and adware detection and to scan your PC for viruses for free.

Article Source: Content for Reprint

How to Prevent Spyware from Destroying your Computer.

Spyware is software that runs behind the scenes on your computer and collects information about your keystrokes, the sites you visit, and any other information that you would want to keep private. Spyware gets installed on your computer without you even knowing about it. But a first warning sign that you have it on your computer is when performance begins to deteriorate rapidly and you find a lot of strange processes that you know nothing about. While there are tools to remove spyware, the best situation is that it never resides on our computer in the first place. Here are some tips to keeping spyware from destroying your computer. First of all, you need to be vigilant in avoiding clicks on sites or links that you know nothing about - especially if these links come from popup ads. You should not click on a popup or spam advertisement link because you don't want to risk that click installing spyware on your computer.

The first step to preventing spyware on your computer is to make sure your computer is clean from spyware in the first place.

Here is a good tip. Many of have seen popup ads where it has a button and says click on this to close the advertisement. Don't click that button because it may be associated with installing spyware on computer. Press the "X" to close out the window instead. That will force a hard close of the window without running any spyware installers.

Never under any circumstances open an email attachment from someone that you do not know. If you don't know what kind of attachment you are opening for sure then don't open it. It may contain something to install a virus or spyware on your computer.

Most of us are guilty of not reading all agreements when we install software. We usually just click the Accept button and move on with the install. Makers of spyware software know this too and they actually put clauses in the agreement that by clicking the Accept button you agree to install their spyware. This can be annoying and time-consuming but it would be wise to read all agreements of any software you install.

With today 's high speed internet connections where you do not dial up and they are always on, you should never operate without a firewall on you computer. This firewall should also protect against your computer sending viruses or spyware from behind it to the rest of the world. Windows XP Service Pack 2 has a built in firewall. If you are using some version of Windows prior to XP, there are third party personal firewalls such as ZoneAlarm that are relatively inexpensive and have built in antivirus and anti-spyware protection.

And lastly, make sure your Internet Explorer security settings are set at medium or higher. If they are not set at least at this level you can pick up spyware by just visiting a web site. In fact, if you want better protection against spyware, download and install Mozilla Firefox and make it your default web browser. It has much better protection against these threats.

About the Author

For more information on combating spyware and adware visit: http://www.spywareremovalsoft.com/

Article Source: Content for Reprint

Your PC could be a Spy.

You might have a spy in your home, and it 's not James Bond. Heck, it 's not even human! Your computer might be collecting your personal information and passing it on to companies and people anywhere in the world. That 's because there might be spyware on your computer without you even knowing it.

Spyware is software designed to collect information about you for a variety of purposes, including advertising, credit card fraud, and identity theft. The information is gathered in a number of ways, such as by recording the keys that you type, recording your Web browsing history, and even scanning documents you have saved on your hard drive.

Although collecting your information for advertising is generally just annoying, it can be harmful to your computer since it uses up resources. When your computer is infected with spyware, you might notice a significant slowing in performance and your computer will just generally react sluggishly to your commands. And, if too much spyware builds up, your computer might crash or fail to start up.

Spyware used to collect your financial information is a much more serious problem. Some types of spyware attempt to record your password as you log into certain websites, such as your bank 's site or your credit card company 's site. Or, they might try to capture your credit card number as you enter it during an online shopping checkout.

Spyware doesn't spread like a virus or a worm; your infected computer won't try to spread its disease to others. Spyware gets into your system by tricking you or by working its way through some of the less secure spots on your computer. In most cases, you'll never see it happening. A lot of spyware is transmitted as a Trojan horse, where it masquerades as something useful-sometimes even as security software!

Spyware sometimes comes bundled with software that you can download from the Internet, such as certain shareware programs. When you download the program you want, the unwanted spyware is downloaded as well.

Still other spyware targets holes in your Web browser or in software on your computer. This happens when you visit a website containing spyware code that attacks your browser and installs the spyware. This is often referred to as a "drive-by download."

Unfortunately, once one spyware program gets in, your computer becomes more vulnerable to additional spyware. Many users assume the significant decrease in efficiency is a hardware program, and might go so far as to purchase a new computer. When a computer is extremely infected, you might actually have to back up your files and perform a clean reinstallation of all the software on your computer. This is a time-consuming process and requires you to set up your computer preferences as though you were setting up your computer for the first time.

The best thing you can do to protect yourself from spyware is to purchase an anti-spyware program. These programs work to fight spyware by preventing its installation and by detecting and disabling existing spyware. Some spyware programs don't perform both of these functions.

If you purchase a program that detects and disables existing spyware, be sure to schedule it to run on a regular basis. When you run a program of this type, it will scan your Windows registry, operating system files, and all installed programs. You'll then see a list of potential threats from which you can decide which to delete and which to keep.

The bad news is that some fake anti-spyware programs have appeared on the market. In addition, you might see ads on your computer that appear to be pop-ups generated by your computer system indicating you have a spyware infection. When you click on these pop-ups, you'll be directed to a site that instructs you to buy certain programs.

To avoid being taken in by these malicious programmers, do your homework. Only buy an anti-spyware program from a reputable dealer. Before buying, do some research into the program and look for customer reviews. Although spyware is extremely common on the Internet, you can keep those spies out of your computer and your home.

About the Author

While surfing the internet I found "XoftSpySE" which did an excellent job cleaning up and optimizing my PC. You also know that spyware remover programs are a dime a dozen, and it is therefore quite difficult to determine which one to download and install.

Well, fortunately for you, we have done the work for you. Here are some of the top spyware programs you should consider.

Top Anti-Spyware Software:

Spy Sweeper, Counter Spy and Paretologic Anti-Spyware all have the best set of features, are the most effect and simple to use, and are customizable and easy to set up. They also offer the best in support. They range from about $20 up to $39. Others that rate well but not as highly as those top 3 are Antispy, Spyware Doctor, Pest Patrol, Ad-aware SE / Pro, Spyware Be Gone, McAfee Anti-Spyware and Maxion Spy Killer. These other spyware remover programs range from $18 all the way up to $40.

What to Look For In Spyware Removal Programs:

Now that we have identified the programs that have the best ratings and features, lets identify the criteria on which you should determine which spyware is best for you.

A good spyware remover program (anti-spyware) should have a set of tools that allows you to quickly remove spyware in a user-friendly fashion, but also thoroughly enough so that you can decide what it removes, if anything. This will help you from mistakenly allowing the program to remove something you need to keep. An undo feature comes in very handy for this very reason as well.

You will also need to know which one does the job right at the end of the day. The common assumption is that this can only be determined via trial and error methodology, but word of mouth is just as capable of shedding light on what your end results will be using various anti-spyware programs.

The best options should also provide you with a simple user interface that doesnt overcomplicate things. It should properly describe what it finds, what type of threat each found element may pose to your system and privacy, and not be overly technical in those descriptions.

Another important factor is how well it allows you to customize the program so that it only does what you want and only when you want. While its good to have a program always looking out for your best interest, you dont want a program that will bug you so often for scans and updates that it winds up standing in the way of what is truly important using your computer in the first place.

Anti-spyware (like anti-virus) should never take up more system resources than it needs to. After all, one of the main points of removing malicious processes from your system is for the sake of system efficiency and power.

The anti-spyware program should carry a decidedly light load on your processor (CPU) and ram, if you are the type who monitors such things. In non-technical terms, you should notice a boost in performance after installing a good anti-spyware program not a drop, as some of the less dependable ones can cause.

Last but not least, the installation of the software should be straightforward and hassle-free. It should not ask you if you want to install other things like toolbars.
If you are installing software and it prompts you to install other software or accept advertising offers, opt for different software. (Consumers making this choice will also have a positive impact on force-fed advertising in the future.) By and large, these programs are the ones that will cause you problems later.

Finally, as the old adage reminds us: What is popular is not always right and vice versa. Spy Sweeper may rank the highest, but it may or may not be your last stop. The idea is to identify the aspects that will affect your situation the most (drawing from the ones listed above) and make your choice from there. Most programs have a website which explains how they work, so you may opt to do a little simple research before you commit.

About the Author

Well, I Have Reviewed The Best Anti-Spyware Products.

Only 1 Can Really Delete 99% Of Spyware.

Find Out More Here: *Best Spyware Remover Software*

Article Source: Content for Reprint

Internet Security Basics

The explosive growth of the Internet has meant that thousands of people are today experiencing the joys of being online for the first time. With growth there always comes pain. Be it your growing pains as a child or the growth and development of this part of our culture called the Internet.

Firstly we need to quickly explain what the Internet is and where it came from. The Internet is the offspring of a military project called Arpanet. Arpanet was designed to provide reliable communication during global nuclear war. A vast network of interconnected computers was set up all over the world to allow the various branches of US and NATO forces to communicate with each other.

Nuclear war never came (thankfully) and the world was left with a massive network of computers all connected together with nothing to do. Colleges and universities started to use these computers for sharing research internationally. From there it grew and spread outside colleges to local homes and businesses. The World Wide Web was born and its father was a guy called Tim Berners Lee.

When you're connected to the Internet you're sharing a vast network with hundreds of millions of other users. This shared network provides resources that 15 years ago were never thought possible. Unfortunately when something is shared its open to abuse. On the Internet this abuse comes from hackers and virus creators. Their sole intent is to cause chaos and/or harm to your computer system and millions of other computer systems all over the world.

How do you combat this? You need an Internet security system. This might sound complicated but your Internet security system will be quite straightforward being comprised of just 2 - 3 Internet security products.

We'll look at each of these products in more detail now:

Antivirus SoftwareThe first and most critical element of your Internet security system is antivirus software. If you don't have up-to-date antivirus software on your PC you're asking for trouble. 300 new viruses appear each month and if you're not constantly protecting your system against this threat your computer will become infected with at least one virus - it's only a matter of time.

Antivirus software scans your PC for signatures of a virus. A virus signature is the unique part of that virus. It can be a a file name, how the virus behaves or the size of the virus file itself. Good antivirus software will find viruses that haven't yet infected your PC and eliminate the ones that have.

Antivirus software can only protect your computer from viruses trying to infect it via email, CD-Rom, floppy disk, Word documents or other types of computer files. Antivirus software alone will not keep your computer 100% safe. You also need to use firewall software.

Firewall Software
The use of firewall software by home computer users is a relatively new occurrence. All Internet connections are a two way process. Data must be sent and received by your computer. This data is sent through something called ports. These are not physical things rather aspects of the way your computer communicates online.

Firewall software watches these ports to make sure that only safe communication is happening between your computer and other computers online. If it sees something dangerous happening it blocks that port on your computer to make sure your computer stays safe from the person who is trying to hack into your system.

An easier way to understand a firewall would be to picture your computer as an apartment complex. At the front door of this complex there is a security guard. Every person who enters the complex must pass this security guard. If the security guard recognizes the person entering as a resident he allows them to pass without saying anything. If, however, the person entering the complex is unknown to him then he will stop that person and ask for identification. If they have no business being at the apartment complex he escorts them from the building.

If you are not currently using firewall software your computer will get hacked into - that's a guarantee.

Popup Blocker
You can get a good popup blocker at no cost. An easy way to do this is to install either the Google or Yahoo toolbar. Both of these come with popup blockers built in. Popup are not necessarily dangerous but are a nuisance and using either of these toolbars will make your life that bit easier.

A simple rule for practicing online security is: "If in doubt then don't". If you don't recognize the file, the email address, the website or if your gut feeling says "no" then don't click that button.

About the Author
If you're not protecting your computer properly then you need to learn about Internet security as quickly as possible - before it ruins you financially or personally. If registry repair and scans are not conducted, over time corrupt files can create a nightmare of symptoms for users.

Registry errors are created from software installs and de-installs, creating new users (due to preference keys), when chat programs are used, and when software is used to open new files. This can create a large registry size which requires compression. Each of these causes requires the need for registry repair through a complete registry scan on an ongoing basis.

Without conducting consistent registry scans and repairs, you will likely encounter a series of errors and performance issues over time.

Symptoms of registry problems can include: Speed of PC is extremely slow, consistent freezes, unexpected crashes, and slow performance, start up (boot) process is not smooth and shut downs are abnormal, rebooting the computer is becoming a common practice, specific error messages are pinpointing a Windows registry problem, inability to properly add and remove software on computer, Blue Screen of Death - BSOD, longer computer response times, slower browsing on internet, software takes longer to start/launch, and anti-virus and anti-spyware removal software cannot detect or fix the problem.

Is it a Good Idea to Do a Registry Repair?

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms you may want to immediately consider a registry repair to save yourself time and remove frustration from your life. This was a difficult lesson for me. I was having constant crashes and could not keep my PC on long enough to save my work, causing me to come extremely stressed out and looking for immediate solutions. I first ran my McAfee online version of virus and spyware scans to fix the problems. To my surprise, none of the scans worked.

After a bit of research, I found the symptoms to be tied to the need for a registry cleaning and repair. After a swift registry fix through a downloaded registry fixer software, my computer was almost as good as new.

This was a difficult lesson in terms of time and effort spent as well as the financial setback that came with purchasing multiple programs.

Manual registry repair is not advised because in the process of trying to fix a corrupt registry, you could cause deeper problems. Plus, there are many good tools available to do a cheap, efficient, and complete registry repair without taking the risk of hurting your operating system on your PC.

You will quickly notice that I am in favor of taking the fastest and easiest way possible to fix registry errors. This is done through a simple process of determining if you even have legitimate registry errors in the first place. This can be done through running a free registry repair software scan. After determining whether or not you have errors, then you can pay for the repair feature in the software used to do the free scan. When you purchase the registry repair software, any good program will offer a one year license so you can maintain it throughout the year.

Once you run the free scan and then purchase the repair feature of the software (if errors are found), your computer performance can be back up to speed with 10-15 minutes or less. Make sure to restart your computer to allow the changes to take place.

About the Author
Daryl Moore specializes in Windows registry problems. Once you are sure that your pc is infected by spyware, you can go further for removing those mal-wares. The problem that most people faces is that spyware is usually very well hidden in their system. They take disguises of innocent looking software.

Effective spyware detection means that you can catch spyware as soon as it enters your system and deal with it effectively. Without effective spyware detection, the malicious spyware could sit comfortably and unnoticed for long periods of time. To forbid this, follow these consecutive 3 steps -

#1 - First thing is to find out a well reputed anti spyware to download. This software should be the arch nemesis of spyware programs and it should come with sufficient tools to detect, remove, and destroy spyware which has managed to infiltrate your PC. There are lots of different anti-spyware programs available, so you can find one that suits you.

#2 " Secondly, once you've downloaded and installed some anti-spyware security tool, get it to scan your PC for infections. This is the first stage of the actual spyware detection: the software will look through your files, registry and processes, checking against a large database of known spyware signatures. If it finds anything suspicious, it will quarantine that item until you've decided what to do with it.

#3 " Finally, set up future immunization. For your tips spyware normally becomes onto a computer for file sharing programs, unknown e-mails and service which you download to your computer. But there are cases where deleting the tool or the e-mail would not be enough to get the spyware of your computer.

In such tendencies you would need to get an anti-spyware remover program, which are traditionally free of charge to download. These programs after you download them, go ahead to scan your computer and if it locates any spyware it would show them to you and if you want it to remove them from your computer you can suffer to buy the program. You will probably find that a lot of people will suggest that you can get rid of it by downloading and running VundoFix, but does it really work? You might be surprised to learn the truth.

Vundo is one the most common spyware infections making its rounds onto computers all over the world, and it is also one of the most difficult to get rid of. It consists of a Trojan downloader that will download and display popup advertisements over and over again but it has also been known to download and install more malicious files that can cause much more harm to your computer. If you suspect you are infected with this pesky spyware, what should you do?

Many people will tell you (most of which are unqualified to be offering spyware removal advice) that you can do any combination of the following things - install and run Search and Destroy or Ad-Aware, and if that doesn't fix it there is a tool written specifically to remove Vundo called VundoFix that is supposed to do the trick if the others fail. The only problem with this type of advice is that it doesn't work.

Go ahead and check your favorite spyware forum or group and look and see if anybody has successfully completely removed Vundo using any or all of the above recommendations. I guarantee you will not find one. You will find someone who thinks he may have gotten rid of it, but lab tests have proven time and time again that simple free spyware removers and Vundofix do not completely eliminate this frustrating Trojan downloader because they cannot stay current its dynamic nature - it is constantly changing and downloading new files so you'll simply be left fighting a never ending battle.

What you need is a spyware removal tool that does 2 things:
1. Is proactive in scanning your computer with real time protection
2. Scans your computer against a spyware definitions database that is frequently updated
Using antispyware software that does not incorporate these two crucial features will only prolong the agony you are experiencing trying to completely rid your computer of Vundo.

So if you get infected with it or suspect you might be infected with it, remember that Trojan Vundo removal can be one of the most difficult tasks you partake in, unless you follow my advice and use a spyware remover with the two features listed above - you'll be glad you did.

About the Author
Ready to finally remove vudno for good? Or, maybe it is freezing (locking up), rebooting without reason or perhaps you are getting the deadly blue screen.

Here are some possible reasons:
* Windows Registry Problems
* Not enough memory for all the applications you want to run.
* Experiencing hard drive problems
* Poor internet connection speed
* Virus, adware, spyware
* Processor speed
* Speed of graphics card

To fix your slow laptop problem you first need to identify exactly what is slow. First question to ask yourself is; "Has it always been slow?". Did you consider it slow the day you bought it? If so, maybe you just purchased a computer that was undersized for your needs. It may be as simple as you just need a laptop with a faster processor speed or more memory.

If the applications you use have a lot of graphics then you may need to upgrade the graphics card and possibly add additional memory. I would suggest that you look closely at the system requirements defined by the applications that you are using.

If your laptop speed is only slow when you are accessing the internet then this is more than likely due to the speed of your internet connection. Shop around for a new internet provider. I recently doubled my speed for the same price by just switching my internet provider.

If your laptop has not always been slow but has either suddenly slowed down or gradually over time gotten slower and slower, then you probably have virus/adware/spyware type problems.

You may have a corrupt windows registry. Even if you know what the windows registry is, don't try manually cleaning it yourself. Purchase some good windows registry repair software. It will save you a lot of headaches and time.

A lot of hidden culprits are simple files that are placed on your computer unbeknownst to you by adware or spyware programs. Adware delivers all the banner ads that you see while you are surfing the net. Adware usually includes code that allows the adware publisher to snoop on your browsing activity and then sell this personal information to third party advertisers. This tracking code that is added to your laptop is what is known as spyware.

Through adware and spyware unauthorized sites can add themselves to your desktop and to your internet favorites. These malicious components also take up your hard drive space and slow down your computer.

If you have picked up a virus then your computer may not only be slow but you may see other erratic type operations which may cause you to have to reboot the computer often. It really pays to always run some type of anti-virus software. Your laptop may very well come with a trial version of this type of software already installed for you.

In addition to protecting my computer with anti-virus software, I clean it quite frequently with adware/spyware remover software, because these little nuisance files are being added daily as you surf the net.

Even if you run out and buy a newer and faster Laptop, you still need to apply some of the safe computing practices mentioned here to keep your Laptop running like a well oiled machine.

About the Author
If you would like to check your Laptop for adware and spyware then use the Free Scan offered at NoAdWare .

Free Malware Removal

If you never heard about malware attacks, it means you're living under a rock. After highly devastating Nimda and Bagle worms that brought Internet to knees, and the explosion of rogue security scams like XP antivirus and Antispyware Master, it's obvious that sooner or later every PC user faces the need to remove malware.

Literally hundreds of all kinds of software, tools and utilities are sold promising to clean out every possible infection. However, most of the advertised products never deliver, and the rest cannot guarantee the 100% detection and removal rate.

Purchasing several programs (antivirus, antispyware, antispam, etc) sure helps in removing malware, but the price easily goes beyond $100, not speaking about yearly subscription update. Many computer owners have reasons to consider this price unacceptable.

A common myth about PC security is that having antivirus program updated with latest malware definitions is enough to protect the computer. But being as focused as they are, antivirus programs easily miss a number of other types of malware, which are simply exuberant these days. The terms itself includes well over a dozen of threats, from phishing to identity theft, which is much broader than a virus definition.

That's why it should be remembered that no antivirus is capable of detecting every malicious program, and one or another pest may one day find its way to sneak into the system. Then the question rises, "how to remove malware once it is inside?"

I am not going to tell you to buy yet another cool software. One a single occurrence of infection takes place, it's just not justifiable to spend money to do the job that takes less than 5 minutes to complete. Once you know what free malware remover can do a full system cleaning.

Command-line scanner from a-squared is a powerful, yet free tool built on the code of anti-malware 3.5 with which it shares the pest definitions and detection algorithms. You shouldn't be afraid of the term "command-line scanner" because it's really easy to use, and requires minimum input on user's part.

a-squared free malware removal tool requires no installation, that's why it is very helpful when due to system corruption no new software can be installed (at this stage, users often bring their computers to repair men, where pay outrageous sums of money to get PC's fixed). This little command-line scanner detects and removes a wide variety of infections:

rootkits
dialers
spyware
adware
Trojans
Worms

All that's needed to start the malware removal process is download the archived from a-squared website, unpack it, and run the command prompt. Then, type in the string of commands as I show on screenshots on my hubpage, and hit Enter. It's easier than configuring desktop antivirus software, really!

Providing you have a decent antivirus protection, a second layer of PC security is all you need for safe surfing. Run a test with command-line scanner, and you'll be impressed with a-squared free malware remover.

Learn about free malware removal tools and get rid of spyware, adware, dialers, rootkits, worms and other types of Windows infections.

About the Author
Free malware removal tools are demanded by PC users worldwide, but in most cases those programs are not free at all, or just never deliver what they promise to. A-squared free command line scanner is a pleasant exception that deals with a variety of type of malware and removes infections instantly.

First Step to stop computer slow down : Registry Repair

If you need help cleaning slow laptops or PC's, you should scan your registry for errors. Why you ask? Read on.

Windows based computer will gradually slow down over time. The biggest issues are caused by registry growing. Registry growth is unavoidable because of:

1.Uninstalled programs don’t clean up the registry.

2.Too many information stored in the registry instead of database.

3.Temporary information not cleans up.

4.Too many programs installed.

Window Registry was first introduced in Windows 95, it was design to replace the old .ini file, which allows not just 2 levels of grouping in settings, but unlimited levels of tree settings! Microsoft likes complexity, they think of simplicity as outdated technology, which still widely use in other operating system, like UNIX and Linux.

Because of the Modern technology, windows’ user has to upgrade their computer to process the extra registry information! And this is bad news for me, because I am just like the others, cannot afford to upgrade the computer each and every year! The less expensive way is to do regular maintenance on the registry.

Until .NET platform become popular (3/5 years down the road), we still need to rely on this bad design architecture, and we have learn how to live with it – Use some registry cleaning tools. I remember my first registry cleaner was from Norton utility. That was the old days where Norton utility was the only few proper tuning tools for windows! Nowadays we have over hundreds types of registry cleaning tools; some are pure registry cleaner, some are subset of a larger toolset.

I prefer to use more professional registry cleaner, larger toolset doesn’t provides a very effective cleaning. The ideally best registry cleaning tool must be able to identified unwanted registry entry, safely remove identified items and able to optimize and compress the registry to its’ minimum!

If your personal computer is gradually slowing down, first thing you should do is to uninstall all unused, unnecessary and unwanted software from your windows, try to keep your window software as less as possible (Not to say you can’t have more), and focus on the programs that you require.

Secondly, you should use one or few proper registry repair tools to tidy up the registry, eliminates all unused settings, information in the window registry, but remember to backup the registry first! Most registry cleaning tool will provides backup function for restore, if the cleaning “too much” and cause unstable behavior to the software or window operating system. Never, ever use a registry cleaner without backup function! These are common problems caused by Windows registry inconsistencies. Microsoft registry cleaner software can fix these problems and make your pc running smoothly again. The other option is to format your hard disk and reinstall the operating system and all the programs you installed over time.

What is the registry? Well the windows operating system stores crucial information about your computer in a database file. In this database it stores information about your hardware, software and settings you made to this software and hardware. This data is crucial to keep your pc running smoothly. All the changes which are made to the pc are stored as keys in the registry. From the moment you start the Windows operating system it will read and add registry settings about your hardware and software. Each time software is installed or uninstalled entries are changed or removed.

Unfortunately these entries in the registry are not removed properly causing problems in performance or failures like system errors. Each time you add or remove hardware and/or software to the system, the registry increases in size and it takes more time for Windows to read the registry causing performance problems. With registry cleaning software you can successfully purge these entries from the registry getting better performance and a smooth running pc.

By using Windows registry cleaner software you can solve these problems. There are many free registry cleaning tools available for download on the internet. You can download one of these programs which matches the version of the Windows operating system you are using. Most of these registry cleaners offer the option to make a backup of your current registry in case you encounter any problems after the cleanup. Another option most offer is an automated scan of your registry at boot time or at a predefined date or time interval. If you are not using this option I would recommend that you run the software each time when you have uninstalled several programs or at least once a month. Another recommended option that most programs offer is to defragment of compress the registry. This will make the file smaller and thus it will be faster for Windows to read the registry for values it's looking for.

About the Author:Registry Cleaner Reviews is an online resource about Microsoft registry cleaners and other information to improve pc performance.

Bye-Bye Pop-Ups And Computer Slowdowns! Learn More About Spyware Removal.

‘Spyware’ is a form of advertising software that is covertly installed on a person’s personal computer without their knowledge or consent. Some advertising software today is put in with the permission of the computer owner as a form of payment for the use of a website or program, and these forms of marketing software are usually termed ‘adware’.

The difference between spyware and adware is knowledge and consent of the user. Because spyware is added without consent, and often can lead to a number of damaging effects to a computer, spyware removal is a popular subject for computer users today.

The first step in spyware removal is of course determining that you indeed have spyware installed on your computer. Chances are, you do. In a study conducted by America Online and the National Cyber Security Alliance in 2004, it was estimated that 80% of computer users across the world have some form of spyware installed on their computer, and 90% of these users are not aware of it.

Some common signs that your computer maybe dirty with spyware are ‘pop up’ advertisements that occur frequently and sometimes even when you are not on the web. These ads can be extremelyirritating to be sure, but spyware can have even more disturbing effects to your computer. For instance, it can considerably slow your computer down, add hard to remove toolbars to your browser, change your home page without your knowledge, and cause put away or break down, resulting in lost data.

The good news is there are a number of spyware removal programs available that will scan your computer to detect spyware elements. If it is determined that your computer is infected with spyware, some of these programs are able to remove the infection.

Many spyware removal programs are available free of charge, though they must be updated regularly. Some programs will allow you to scan your computer for free, but will then ask for payment in order to clean the identified spyware. Personally, I’m a little disbelieving of these programs, and stick to the ones that are entirely free of cost. Some good examples include SpyBot, and AdAware.

These spyware removal programs are usually able to get most spyware off your computer. To increase your chances, it is best to run two or even three different programs. You may encounter occasional spyware programs that are especially hateful and will require more complicated measures to remove. Instructions on how to remove these more deceitful spyware programs are often available in technical meeting across the internet, and most stores that offer computer repair are also able to clean spyware as well as viruses.

About the Author:Paul I. Sometimes, spyware attempts to gain partial control of a computer, and it can monitor your computer usage patterns. Unlike computer viruses and worms, spyware is incapable of replicating on its own.

Spyware can lead to an onslaught of pop-up advertisements, and requests to redirect your site, or reset your homepage. It is more widespread on computers that run the Microsoft Windows OS, than those running on Linux and Mac platforms. A similar nuisance, adware, is a form of spyware that displays unsolicited advertisements to users and tracks their visits to other websites. With this information, a marketing profile of the PC user is made to enable the presentation of targeted advertising.

Spyware is widespread due to computer users being unaware of their existence, and the exploitation of weaknesses in computer operating software. Spyware can enter a computer by attaching to other programs, or by masquerading as useful software. It is advisable to not download shareware and software that may have spyware riding piggyback on it. This includes games, music files, or any other commonly shared files.

Another technique used to install spyware includes duping users into clicking a link that initiates a spyware download. Sometimes, spyware can also be forcibly downloaded and installed if a web browser can be coerced by an infected web page to do so. This method is referred to as “drive-by download”, and it involves attacks on the security weaknesses in Internet Explorer and Microsoft Java runtime.

Certain spyware vendors install cookies that redirect affiliate revenue meant for a genuine affiliate to the spyware vendor. They achieve this by replacing tags that affiliates place on the user requests with their own tags. This entails a loss for everyone involved, the affiliate marketing company loses credibility, vendors end up paying without achieving a sale, and legitimate affiliates lose revenue opportunities.
There are several anti-spyware software programs, such as Ad-aware and Spybot. They offer real-time protection and also detect and remove spyware that may have been installed previously. Real-time protection involves checking the data coming in during a download against a list of spyware components. If the data is thought to represent spyware, it is blocked. For anti spyware programs to work effectively, it requires frequent updates with new databases of potential threats.

Spyware can be difficult to remove after being installed, and some spyware can regenerate even after being removed. If the spyware persists, it is recommended that the computer be booted in safe mode; this give you a better chance of uninstalling the spyware.

To start protecting your computer now, visit http://cbtopsites.com/search/aaaball/spyware for reviews of popular spyware removing software which offer free computer scans.

Written for the blog http://www.SpywareCleaner.biz. Hacking, in its malicious form, also encompasses defacing web pages for the purpose of propaganda.

Not all hackers work with malicious intent, those who use their hacking skills in an unethical manner are referred to as black hat hackers. They are also known as crackers, which is derived from the phrase criminal hackers. White hat hackers are those who work within ethical limits.

Black hat hackers engage in activities such as password cracking, code breaking, software cracking, and brute force attacks. Password cracking implies recovering passwords from a password database system in order to access information. Passwords can also be intercepted as they are being transmitted over an unprotected network.

Password cracking also involves using software to guess passwords; however, the chances of such a hack attempt being detected are greater. Password cracking can be used in combination with other techniques such as social engineering, identity management system attacks, wiretapping, dumpster diving, etc. The objective of these activities is to elicit a lot of information about a machine or an individual.

Hackers also practice software cracking, which implies modifying software in a manner to get rid of the copy prevention that is encoded. Software that has been modified is referred to as warez and is considered to be a criminal act in some countries. Distribution of cracked software is illegal in almost all countries. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and European Union Copyright Directive are legislations passed in the U.S and the E.U, respectively for controlling software cracking. The most common technique employed for software cracking is reverse engineering in which the program code is unraveled till the functions that protect the software are exposed. Software cracking causes losses of up to $ 20 billion yearly for software vendors.

A brute force attack is employed by hackers to decipher an encrypted message. It involves trying out all the possible key combinations in order to yield the plaintext that has been employed to create the cipher text. Usually, in a brute force attack, half the number of combinations possible have to be tried out before arriving at the decrypted text.

An interesting aspect about hacking is that it can also be done by using search engines. Search engines are support complex queries that can be used by a skillful hacker to obtain access to files that run the most important network security programs. Web servers release information including financial and personal details that is indexed by search engines and it is possible to access these by structuring queries correctly. Companies that perform web-based data transfer run the risk of the data being captured by a hacker monitoring such actions.

In order to protect themselves against hack attacks it is important that computer owners follow safety procedures. These include: conducting business via sites that guarantee secure online transaction, installing a firewall, being selective while installing software, and performing regular system scans.

To start protecting your computer now, visit http://cbtopsites.com/search/aaaball/spyware, for reviews of popular spyware removers, which offer free computer scans.

How to guard against pc viruses.

Whether we use computer for simple functions such as typing our homework and business reports, up to more important acts like online business meetings and transactions, one cannot deny that computers are a big part in our daily lives.

Using a computer, particularly the Internet, is one task that even a ten year old can do at this particular period in time.

With the growing increase of popularity and reliance on computers, as well as the demand for it, security risks have also gone up, which is a reality that cannot be ignored. With the billions of information bits being spread across the World Wide Web, hackers and computer intruders (criminals) see the value in focusing their attention to computers and the Internet. The information they would retrieve here is (more often than not) more useful than when doing it the old-fashioned way.

As such, these intruders have devised some methods into getting information out of computer users, with or without these people knowing that they've been hacked into. As is the case in real life, there are some computer programs that are disguised to be innocent, but actually act as spies, providing information to the intruders. These malicious programs which are security threats are called computer viruses.

Computer viruses should not be taken lightly. They work in many different ways; one of them may be to provide data to the one who planted the virus. Other viruses can simply be annoying - slowing down your computer, building unwanted files, etc. ; while some can be very disruptive, such as deleting your hard drive, compromising your operating system, etc.

As such, there are different types of viruses which normally differ in how they function and how they are spread. Examples of these include Trojan horses, worms, email viruses, and logic bombs. It would be important for you to know these kinds of viruses in order to better protect you from them, as well as to have the proper programs to get rid of them.

Trojan horses are simply computer program that cannot reproduce themselves, but can do damage anywhere from minimal to extremely dangerous. It usually disguises itself as a common file (maybe an .mp3 music file or a .jpeg picture file) but does the damage when the computer user opens it. This is why you should take extra care when opening a suspicious looking file : it could very well be a Trojan horse.

Worms are self reproducing programs that mainly use security holes in order to spread itself throughout the network. If your computer is infected with a worm and is able to replicate itself a number of times, this usually causes your computer to slow down noticeably since it uses your computer resources and memory to do so. They often use security flaws in operating systems (such as Windows) in order to self reproduce.

Email viruses are self explanatory : they spread via email. Once a user opens the infected email, what it usually does is send itself to other computer users via the email addresses found in the user 's address book. Because it uses email and a lot of people open emails without really checking or being careful, it spreads very quickly across the entire world and can cause chaos within just a few days.

Logic bombs are viruses that target specific computer applications, causing them to crash (for example, Windows). This can also be spread via email attachments or by innocently downloading it off the Internet. It can cause a great deal of harm (particularly if it infects Windows and the like), or just a small amount (small program).

Fortunately for computer users, there are anti-virus programs available anywhere, whether in the Internet or at the computer shop. These programs specifically target over thousands of viruses and wipe them clean from your system (if infected) or protect you from incoming attacks (if not yet infected).

Anti-virus programs are constantly updated (normally everyday) since there are always new virus definitions each day, and you can get infected by these new viruses.
