2009 Parish Picinic

The Parish Picnic held on June 14th was a huge success! Blessed with fine weather and warm fellowship, this year's picnic saw over 130 parishioners in attendance - a new Calvary record! Thanks to everyone who attended this special event.

The Vestry extends a round of thanks to Adrienne and Paul Hahn, Mirelle White and Karen Sammer who helped in setting-up, Paul Hahn, Rick LaDuca, and Glynn Gillette, our "grill masters" and those who stayed to clean up. Thanks also to the Youth Group for providing great entertainment and activities for the day. Most importantly, a huge thank you to Bonnie Grant for organizing and preparing the picnic. It takes a tremensous amount of work to prepare for the event and Bonnie gets it done! She's even reserved the site for next year's picnic for June 13, 2010, so save the date!

SHOP RITE GIFT CARDS to benefit Calvary Church

Shop Rite Gift cards is on-going fund raiser to benefit Calvary Church. Calvary receives 5% of each card.

Options to purchase the cards:

Fill out a form (available in the Parish Hall and Office) and submit form and check, payable to Calvary Episcopal Church, to Ray Malley or Karen Sammer (contact the church office for their contact info). The cards will be available for your pick up on the following Sunday. This is the recommended method for large dollar amount orders.
Give a check to Ray or Karen payable to Calvary Episcopal Church
marked Shop Rite Gift Cards in memo section for gift cards on
the spot. No need to wait until next week. We keep a small
inventory of gift cards.

118 Easter Baskets

Great job! Calvary youth and Calvary Church collected 118 Easter baskets, 39 Easter goody bags, 6 bags of jelly beans and chocolate Easter eggs, 1 stuffed bunny, and 1 bag of Easter grass and delivered them to the Flemington Food Pantry to benefit the areas needy children.

Annual Easter Basket Outreach

It is time for our annual Easter Basket Outreach program to benefit th Flemington Food Pantry. We'll be collecting every Sunday in March with the final collection on March 29th.

We need baskets, grass, and help to fill the baskets by bringing in one or more of the following:

Individually wrapped Easter candy
Two or more small bags of candy (large bags of jelly beans, marshmallow "peeps" etc. may not be opened and divided.)
Chocolate Easter Bunnies
Non-edibe items such as packages of Easter themed stickers, pencils, erasers, notepads, etc.

Donation bags are on tables in the Parish Hall, you can't miss 'em!

On Sunday March 29th we will fill the baskets during the 10:00am Fellowship hour in the Parish Hall and deliver to the Flemington Food Pantry between 11:00 and 11:30am.

Everyone is invited to help fill the baskets. We have jobs for everyone and you'll have a fun time - guarannteed! For more info contact Sally Flanigan.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT SOUP SUPPERS

Wednesdays, March 4, 11, 18, and 25, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm

This year, our discussions will center around the Promises of God made
in the great Old Testament stories about Noah, Abraham, and Moses.
Please join us for soup and study, ending with the Eucharist at 7:00pm

Welcome the Sisters to Calvary

Next Sunday, February 22, we'll welcome two of the sisters from the Community of St. John Baptist in Mendham. Sister Barbara Jean and Sister Pamela will be here to preach at the services and talk at the Forum after 9:00am service. They'll tell us about life in an order of Episcopal nuns and share their various ministries with us. This will be a very interesting morning with two delightful women.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

On Tuesday February 24 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Calvary will host our annual pancake supper. Cost is $3.00 for adults, $2.00 for childen ages 5 to 11, children 4 and under are free. A sign-up sheet will be in the Parish Hall this month

Vestry Orientation

Calvary's newly elected vestry will meet this Saturday, February 7 from 9:00am until 1:00pm for a Vestry Orientation day.

Diocesan Acolyte Festival

Saturday February 14th from 9:30am to 3:00pm the Diocese is holding an Acolyte Festival at Trinity Cathedral in Trenton, NJ.

It is designed to offer the acolytes of your parish an opportunity for fellowship and learning in a day-long celebration of their ministry. Call 609-394-5281 for further details.

Souper Bowl of Caring

On February 1, the day of the Super Bowl game, we will be participating in the "Souper Bowl of Caring" at Calvary Church. We are asking each person to donate $1.00 to help the needy. Donations will be collected after each service. All money will be donated to the Flemington Food Pantry.

Annual Meeting - Sunday January 25

All are invited to the Annual Meeting of the Parish this Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 10:00am in the Parish Hall.

The meeting will cover the election of new vestry memebers, an overview of the parish ministry over the past year and planning for the coming year.

Christian formation classes for the children will be held and childcare will be provided too.

Christmas/Epiphany Pageant

Calvary's annual Christmas/Epiphany Pageant, "A Savior is Born" will be presented on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at the 9:00am service. Sign up today in the Parish hall to be a part of the pageant.

Rehearsal will be held on Sunday, Dec 28, at 10:00am. There are parts for all ages. Some parts require being present for rehearsal. This is a traditional pageant, with children forming tableaus, older children reading the story, and hymns in between. For more information contact Adrienne Hahn.

Advent Potluck Supper and Sing

Calvary's choirs will sponsor our annual Advent Potluck Supper and Sing, Friday December 5th at 6:00pm in the Parish Hall.

Come join us for food, fellowship, and your favorite songs and hymns. Bring a dish to share and invite friends. The sing along will consist mainly of your requests for favorite hymns and songs. The Children's Choir will present favorites too. Choir Directors Frank Jacobsen and Andrea McGahan will provide accompaniment.

Angels Gather Round

Our Christmas Angel tree has gone up in the Parish Hall courtesy of the Youth Group. We are again sponsoring gifts for needy children in our area. Each year the Flemington Food Pantry provides Calvary Church with the names of children who might not receive Christmas presents if not for our help. Please stop, admire the tree and put on your angel wings to support our local outreach program.

Angels, stars, and doves will be decorating the tree. On the reverse side a gift for a boy or girl with age and size will be listed. After playing Santa, wrap the gift, place the original tag on the outside of the gift so that we may match the gifts with the correct family, and place the gift beneath the Christmas tree. All gifts must be ready to deliver to the Flemington Food Pantry by Sunday, December 14th.

Thanks to all who truly make this a rewarding outreach program.

6th Annual Thanksgiving Food Collection

Christian Formation classes and our Parish family are invited to help provide meals to those who would not otherwise be able to afford it here in Flemington and the surrounding townships.

The collection dates are November 2, 9, and 16 with the final delivery of the food on the morning of the 16th at 10:00am.

As in previous years, each class is assigned to bring in food items to donate to the Flemington Food Pantry. Each child and their family are asked to bring in two of each item if possible.

PreK/K: Pumpkin pie filling and pie crust mix

1st & 2nd: Stuffing mix and bisquick mix

3rd and 4th: Turkey gravy and cranberry sauce

5th and 6th: Canned yams or sweet potatoes and evaporated milk

7th, 8th, and Youth Group: Frozen Turkeys (please bring on the 16th only!)

Everyone can help by donating any of the food items above or assorted canned vegetables. Please help Calvary help those who are less fortunate than we are!

Turkeys must be brought in on Sunday, November 16, no later than 10:00am as we will be delivering at 10:15am

Daylight Savings Time Ends

This Sunday, November 2, Daylight Savings Time comes to an end. That's right we "fall back" and get an extra hour of sleep! Remember to turn your clocks back one hour Saturday night.

Family Stewardship

Please have a family conversation within the next two weeks.

Discuss how everything we have comes from God.
Discuss how we are all blessed with time, talent, and treasure.
Explain how you show thanks by giving back in each area.
Decide with your child how to show thanks by giving back.
Fill out a card with each child. Bring it to church or mail it.

Progressive Dinner This Saturday

This Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 6:00 pm we'll be hosting a progressive dinner. This is An evening of Fun, Food, & Fellowship! The evening starts with appetizers at the Parish Hall, then we'll move on to a "Host" home for dinner, and then back to the Parish Hall at 9 pm for coffee and dessert. We hope you will join us! This is a great way to meet new people and really connect with your church.

2008 Fall Clean Up Day

Our fall Clean Up day is fast approaching, Saturday October 11 at 9:00am. Our Property Vestry liaison George Scott and the Property committee have been hard at work planning. There is a poster and sign up sheet hanging in the Parish hall that lists the tasks we are hoping to accomplish. Come on out and lend a hand and enjoy the fellowship. Mark your calendars and see you there!

Summer Sunday Worship Schedule

Well, summer is here, maybe not on the calendar just yet, but certainly on my thermometer. The mercury is pushing 98F! Don't worry, Calvary Church is air conditioned! Here are the changes for summer worship. We will continue to have services Sundays at 7:45am, 9:00am, and 11:00am. There will be nursery care and Children's Church available at the 9:00am and 11:00am services, in air conditioned rooms too!

For the summer, June 22 through August 31, Children's Church will move upstairs to the "All Saints" room. Children join their parents during service at The Peace, as usual. Older children and parents are welcomed to participate or assist too. Mother Ann, Deacon Jack, Father Harry, or a lay person wil be with the children at this time.

Parish Picnic

Our annual Parish Picnic is today, Sunday June 8th starting at 11:30am at Deer Path Park in the Cedars Pavilion. Join us for a day of worship, fellowship, food and fun! The picnic is a great opportunity to get to know other church members, or introduce your friends and neighbors to Calvary.

Hamburgers and Hot Dogs will be provided. Please bring a salad or dessert. The Youth Group has planned some new games in addition to the traditional ones.

Mutual Ministry Review Survey

The Mutual Ministry Review is a way to assess, evaluate, and celebrate the ministries of our parish. It is a process that can inspire and educate us in ways to increase our blessings through participation. It is valued information, honestly gathered for the purpose of growing in faith together.
