As UC Regents Approve Major Tuition Hike, Students, Faculty Decry Erosion of Public Education in CA and Nationwide

" ... money is being funneled into the compensation of the star faculty and the star administrators, because in the UC system there’s over 3,000 people who make over $200,000. And many of them make $400,000, $500,000. A lot of them are mostly administrators and staff, and so the university has—basically has fewer and fewer faculty, more and more students and more and more administrators. "

The administrators are cutting—are virtually no cuts. In fact, the same meeting, when they decided to raise student fees [32%], they voted on millions of dollars of increased salaries and special bonuses to administrators and to the highest-paid people. And so, there has been several compensation scandals in the UC system. And what they discovered is the UC has secret packages that it gives a lot of its administrators and athletic coaches and some of its star faculty, a small percentage, and that it makes these secret deals, it breaks its own rules, and that money continually floats to the top of the university.

One of the stories I want to talk about is just that UC lost over $23 billion in investments in the last two years. And one reason why it lost so much money is that it invested heavily in toxic assets and in real estate.

Why not ask the President, Mark Yudof about these serious charges?

For the record, I do not consider myself a Christian, although I was baptized and raised Catholic. After my tour of duty with the 82nd Airborne, I attended a local Pentecostal church for awhile and was amazed at the amout of money the flock donated to the church.
Some of the poorest people in that county attended that church and must of sacrificed greatly to donate that kind of money.

But you never heard where the money went or what charitable cause it helped. One day, I asked the preacher what happens to that money, since the church--formely owned by the Methodists--was bought outright with cash and paid for.

The preacher's face turned red and he pointed an accusing finger at me and said, "It's not up to you to question what God does with his money."

I turned around, walked out and said goodbye to religion.

That I lived in a nation that had informed, educated people that loved and fiercely protected their Constitution and Bill of Rights that enshrined forever those unalienable rights so vital and necessary to a free republic.

That this country had a healthy and robust educational system, with free schooling all the way thru college. And that these schools at all levels taught Civics with an emphasis on the Constitution which led to many a lively debate in the classrooms about the rights the people had and how much power should be accorded to the federal government.
These vigorous debates didn't stop after graduation from college, but carried on in many a restaurant, bar, club and home.

That this country had a national health insurance plan that was based on single-payer. The people paid some taxes to help support the plan, but those costs were minimal and were not thought to be a burden because the medical care was excellent and no citizen was turned away when seeking help.

That the country had long ago seen the futility of buying energy overseas and polluting the atmosphere and had instituted a massive solar and wind power generating program that made banks loan money ( at low interest) to homeowners for installing photovoltaic cells and wind turbines on their homes to generate electricity and that the utility companies and co-ops were required by law to pay them handsomely for the excess electric they sold back.
This way they saved trillions in costs by not building overpriced and polluting coal burning and nuclear energy power plants.

That this country had a futuristic mass transit system that was the envy of most nations. One that was clean, on time, easy to access and use which the people did, in droves. Traffic jams and gridlock were unheard of and massive highway construction projects were a thing of the past.

That the people controlled their own money supply, so words like inflation, stagflation, deflation and devaluation were obsolete. Their monetary unit was envied and sought after world-wide, due to its ability of holding on to its value.

That all of this was possible due to the people insisting on not having large standing armies during peace time. They had a lean, mean fighting machine that was given everything it needed, but not wanted.
By not spending over half their budget on military excesses and puffed up generals, the money saved was spent on the country's education, medical care and infrastructure.

They also had a Congress that was responsible to the people and not corporate interests. They had public financing of campaigns that was mandatory and no money from private parties was allowed to pollute campaigns.
They had passed very punitive laws that mandated a minimum 10 years in federal prison and a one million dollar fine for anyone trying to bribe, corrupt or donate private money to elected and non-elected officials or those running for office and a mandatory 10 years in solitary confinement in a federal prison for any official caught accepting those bribes or campaign donations.

They had a MSM which reported real news that actually affected their lives and was not controlled by corporate interests or individuals with dual loyalties and ulterior motives. Gossip about celebrities and sports were relegated to the end of the news and seldom mentioned at all, because the people didn't care to fill their heads with nonsense.
They demanded from the MSM news about events that did or could shape and affect their lives, economy and government, not the latest Hollywood scandal.

The Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, North Carolina grabbed headlines in mid-October when it announced a "Halloween Book Burning." It was going to be anything but your typical book burning, assuming there is such a thing.

To be sure, they planned to burn heavy metal music and smutty movies. But they also had country, gospel, and Christian contemporary music and videos about Jesus in their crosshairs. Most shockingly, they said that they would burn all non-King James versions of the Bible -- aka "Satan's bibles."

They also announced a long list of "Satan's popular books written by heretics" which would be burned. And to top it all off, they offered "fried chicken, and all the sides."

But when the big day came around, a combination of rain, protesters, and a state law against burning paper all conspired against them. Here's what happened:

Defying Gov't Censorship, EPA Attorneys Speak Out Against White House-Backed Climate Change Proposal "Cap and Trade"

JUAN GONZALEZ: The Environmental Protection Agency is being accused of trying to silence two longtime EPA enforcement attorneys who have publicly criticized a key component of the climate change legislation being considered by Congress. Last week, the EPA directed Laurie Williams and Allan Zabel to remove or edit a video they posted to YouTube that warns a cap-and-trade plan will not effectively combat global warming and is, quote, “fatally flawed.” The couple instead advocate for a solution involving carbon fees with rebates.

The video is titled “The Huge Mistake” and was posted to the web in September. The agency issued its warning only after the couple published an opinion article in the Washington Post in late October, which echoed concerns raised in the video. The EPA also said they would have to get approval for any future outside writing projects.

AMY GOODMAN: Well, these are the two sentences the EPA ordered Laurie Williams and Allan Zabel to remove from the video or face “disciplinary action.”

ALLAN ZABEL: Our opinions are based on more than twenty years each working as attorneys at the US Environmental Protection Agency in the San Francisco regional office. In my work at EPA, I have been overseeing California’s cap-and-trade and offset programs for more than twenty years.

AMY GOODMAN: EPA says it’s simply asking the couple to follow government ethics rules that require them to state that their views are their own and not those of the agency. But the couple do state in the video that they were speaking in their capacity as private citizens, parents and a married couple, and not on behalf of the EPA.

ALLAN ZABEL: However, nothing in this video is intended to represent the views of EPA or the Obama administration.

Their website, which explains in further detail their stand against "Cap and Trade." I admire their courage, but not their replacement to "Cap and Trade."

They advocate for a "Carbon Tax" to be put on high emitters of greenhouse gases and to use that money to help average American deal with the rise in electricity prices caused by the taxes placed on companies like electric utilities, the biggest users of coal.

Israel attacked a US Navy ship, the USS Liberty, killing and injuring over 200 American servicemen. President Lyndon Johnson recalled rescue flights, saying that he did not want to "embarrass an ally." (In 2004 a high-level commission chaired by Admiral Thomas Moorer, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, found this attack to be “an act of war against the United States,” a fact few news media have reported.)

LBJ was more concerned about Israel's feelings than the 34 dead and 171 wounded Americans. This is your government at work, riding roughshod over the Constitution and tossing Americans overboard to save Israeli face.

On June 8, 1967, US Navy intelligence ship USS Liberty was suddenly and brutally attacked on the high seas in international waters by the air and naval forces of Israel. The Israeli forces attacked with full knowledge that this was an American ship and lied about it. Survivors have been forbidden for 40 years to tell their story under oath to the American public.

Despite a near-universal consensus that the Israeli attack was made with full knowledge that USS Liberty was a US Navy ship, the Johnson administration began an immediate cover-up of this fact. Though administration officers continued individually to characterize the attack as deliberate, the Johnson administration never sought the prosecution of the guilty parties or otherwise attempted to seek justice for the victims. They concealed and altered evidence in their effort to downplay the attack.

Here's a brief synopsis of that savage and unprovoked attack on US personnel:

At 0800 hrs, 8 June, 1967, eight Israeli recon flights flew over 'Liberty,' which was flying a large American flag. At 1400 hrs, waves of low-flying Israeli Mystere and Mirage-III fighter-bombers repeatedly attacked the American vessel with rockets, napalm, and cannon. The air attacks lasted 20 minutes, concentrating on the ship's electronic antennas and dishes. The 'Liberty' was left afire, listing sharply. Eight of her crew lay dead, a hundred seriously wounded, including the captain, Commander William McGonagle.

At 1424 hrs, three Israeli torpedo boats attacked, raking the burning 'Liberty' with 20mm and 40mm shells. At 1431hrs an Israeli torpedo hit the 'Liberty' midship, precisely where the signals intelligence systems were located. Twenty-five more Americans died.

Israeli gunboats circled the wounded 'Liberty,' firing at crewmen trying to fight the fires. At 1515, the crew were ordered to abandon ship. The Israeli warships closed and poured machine gun fire into the crowded life rafts, sinking two. As American sailors were being massacred in cold blood, a rescue mission by US Sixth Fleet carrier aircraft was mysteriously aborted on orders from the White House.

The Israeli attacks killed 34 US seamen and wounded 171 out of a crew of 297, the worst loss of American naval personnel from hostile action since World War II.

Obama has set a new record for breaking campaign promises and LYING. He hasn't closed down Gitmo; he hasn't brought the troops home, he's shipping them to Afghanistan; he's using signing statements to evade the law, just like Bush; he lied about not hiring lobbyists; he's lied about helping struggling Americans keep their homes, to not use emergency funding to pay for the ongoing occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, etc.

This AP story, that went to press before they found a Muslim patsy, states that there were TWO shooters in TWO different locations. There's way too many stories and video feeds making the same claims about two different Ft. Hood shooters to dismiss.

Our OWN government would rather lie to us than tell the truth about Israel's vicious attack on the USS Liberty. A government that is even more obedient and in the control of the LOBBY than it was in 1967, so what would prevent those congenital liars from covering up and LYING about another Israeli attack against America?
